Now that the streak is over, I can mention RP Daniel Winkler. Picked him up in the middle of last season and he went 17 innings without giving up a run. This season he started with 18.1 scoreless giving him 35.1 innings without a run. Finally gave up a run (home run) in is 24th appearance, then in his next game gave up two runs. His ERA is currently 0.85 in 41 innings.

I'm going to bang the Adonis Medina drum again because he's been a lights out reliever for me in 2 Gold leagues and there are currently 3 of him in the auction house (1700 PP+, so a premium for silver). Check out my 2 Medinas, both set up the exact same way: Right-Handed Specialist/Long Relief.
I'm not sure if he'll succeed beyond gold, or in other roles, but that's a lot of sub-2 ERA seasons to ignore. I'm going to try him out as a 2-inning Closer on one of my teams. Last edited by DonkeyKongSr; 01-16-2019 at 12:57 PM. |

Working on my silver speedy team.
I have two positions left to fill. DH and Catcher. Neither of them have to be great at speed or stealing. For the DH I'm looking for a good silver HR threat that could play 1st if possible. For the catcher, I'm looking for a very good or above catcher rating. Any suggestions? Thanks. |

For the platoon mate, choose Jim Thome. He's in the Auction House now and the best silver hitter vs. RHP. Again, he's a one side of the plate guy who can't hit LHP. Stanton+Thome platoon for now, with Fielder in for Stanton later, and you'll have not only HR mashers, but the best overall hitters for silver. Last edited by DonkeyKongSr; 01-16-2019 at 02:13 PM. |

For Silver catchers, it's Todd Hundley or Wes Westrum if you want to focus on hitting, but just go with one of the defensive superstars, which there are several in silver, but all command a bit of a premium. I'd rank them in this order:
1. Gary Carter 74 rating (103 D) 2. Bob Boone 78 (120) 3. Tony Pena 76 (138) 4. Charles Johnson 74 (136) 5. Benito Santiago 74 (127) 6. Mike Scioscia 75 (99) EDIT: Pena is you target if you want speed with elite D. John Stearns is the fastest, but a mediocre bat and while his D is high, it's nothing like these other guys. DKS thanks for the great info. With the rest of my team having good to elite speed and base stealing and defense I was looking more for defense and lack of suckatude for my catcher.
I'll aim for carter or boone. I'd rather pay the premium then bounce along with substandard. Edit: DKS, how do you get to see the splits before you put bids in on a player? Or is it like buying a pig in a poke? Last edited by pouncer25; 01-16-2019 at 03:01 PM. |

Hitters - 887 Starting Pitchers - 340 Relief Pitchers - 480 (some are SP that were setup as RP, getting a bump in Stuff) Basically, I only will add a hitter if I calculate them as a better hitter, given some other constraints such as a minimum level of defense. DKS, I bow to your effort.
Not looking to steal your thunder or methods but how to you go about downloading the ratings? Is there some super secret handshake or do I have to walk across hot coals? |

Under VIEW click CUSTOMIZE Make a new view that has all the ratings (you could do a hitter view and a pitcher view, but I just download them together as one view), plus a few profile items like handedness Save the view Make sure all the players you want are in the view (i.e. check the filters, positions, etc.) REPORT menu -> WRITE REPORT TO DISK You'll get on online table. Copy and paste to Excel or Google Sheets. Do this at the beginning and end of every season, scrubbing duplicates. Your list will grow fast. If you aren't good at Excel, you can skip the scrubbing and just create some giant messy spreadsheet that you can reference later. Last edited by DonkeyKongSr; 01-16-2019 at 03:44 PM. |

Note, you can also set the split filter to "career" on the stats page to broaden the dataset by including previous seasons.

Oh yes, but I was referring just to card ratings. I gave up on downloading stats because it's a mess and there's enough from the ratings to estimate comparative performance of players.

Here is 13 seasons of history for Tom Herr across two of my teams. This consistency is why I have not felt any huge desire to replace him with a higher ranked player yet.

A few of my go-tos (other than Aparicio, who has been repeatedly named): Nick Castellanos makes an interesting 4-corners platoon bat, currently have him as a platoon 1B with great fielding ratings.
Billy Hamilton as a backup only. I have him trained to be an average defender at 1B, 2B, and 3B, as well as a great outfield defender. He led the league in steals several years as a pinch-runner/defensive replacement. Andy Pettite has made a fantastic starter for me as well. |

Figured I'd plug some of my top performers in my entry league, they probably won't stand promotion but they are some pretty good values if you're just stating out.
Bud Harrelson is pretty new on the team, but with defense like this it's hard to justify an upgrade, considering he's also posting an .807 OPS for the season at the moment. Was an auction card as well (32 PP), and in 4 seasons playing part time he's put together a pretty decent .297/.355/.372 line with 12.1 ZR in 81 SS starts. Next up is the Miguel Cabrera live card. Getting a little long in the tooth and most definitely isn't a long term solution, but 1.037 OPS against lefties is not bad if you're looking for a cheap Bronze league solution to 1st base. Finally, we got Lonnie Smith. A little more expensive than Miggy or Bug, but he's been the second most valuable bat on my team, putting up 4.23 in WPA and a .306/.372/.458 line. Streaky when it comes to Stealing, but at max aggressiveness he spent most of the season yo-yoing between a 60-70% success rating (53 steals in 173 games). Also is a great excuse to link this video, which is a couple pretty good stories about Lonnie Smith. |
