The 1915 Detroit Tigers

The Tigers opened up a 4 game set in Boston but the Sox were ready for them.

I ran across this player while perusing the stats. Interesting in that his R/L stats hardly match up to the season he is having. Then there is the gap when he did not play. There was not much to be found in search on-line on what his life was during the non-playing years but he certainly is enjoying himself on the diamond in OOTP some 100+ years later.

Good day for the Tigers as they whitewash the Red Sox 4-0. Veach goes 3 for 3 to tie Ty Cobb for the leading batting average on the team at .332. Covey pitched another good game and the pale hose lost to make the difference in the standings 8 games.

Are we down to just 2 teams in the American League?

After a day off the two teams resumed action with game 3 of the 4 game set. Unfortunately, for Smokey Joe Wood (Bos) he got steam rolled by a very game Tiger line up that posted a 5 spot on the board in the first inning and that was plenty to win this game and pick up one in the standings on the White Sox as they lost to 5-4 as the Bronx soon to be Bombers scored all their runs in their last two AB's.

So far, there have been any no hitters but several one hitters and some marathon CG's.

I'm not sure how it came to be that Smokey Joe Wood was the SP two days in a row (I use exact line ups) but maybe the skipper knew something as the reversal of fortunes was astounding, despite a furious late game comeback by the Tigers who lost by one one run.

Detroit travels to Philly and in spite of a huge early lead the two teams have an epic battle into extra innings before it's settled.

The Tigers, after dropping the opener of the 4 game series, finish the job as they take the last 3 from the sox and pick up a half game on the idle White Sox. At 6.5 GB it's looking more and more like a pennant race for at least two teams. Boston falls to 13.5 GB.

I think this is the 2nd time this happened...I have two Aug. 6 games posted one with the Red Sox winning and one with Det winning. In game it shows Det win. And, Aug. 7 game that Det (vs A's...a win) is not showing in game. So, 2 games appear to have been wiped out. I probably backed up files but at the same time I'm not getting this sequence.

For better or worse. BTW...Detroit will play 7 twin bills this month. Those were the days, eh?

Detroit rolled to victory in game one but Philly had the answers in the nightcap.

Detroit shook off the blow out in game 2 on Aug. 8 as they came to the park armed and dangerous. So much so, that the A's could manage only a single run in the two games. Throw in a pair of losses by the White Sox and voila.....the lead is 5.5 games.

As we move into the middle of the 'dog days' the race is down to two teams with the smallest gap in quite some time. May 19, actually.

The streaking Tigers picked up another road win in Washington as White Sox lost for the second day in a row to the cellar dwelling A's. The margin is 3.5 GB.
