I don't think you're going too far out on a limb there. Most A's fans I think are hoping to get of there with a split.

Daric Barton = savior of the season???

Also, Coco is on a roll. A's usually go as Coco goes so maybe we're going to get back on track soon.

The A's are a pretty good team, so I think the odds are 50-50 they'll split the series. The key is if the Tigers starters go deep enough so Leyland doesn't have to use his unreliable middle-relief guys. If they don't... oy vey.

The best chance for an A's win is today's game. Verlander has been having a roller-coaster season, and if he falters early, the A's have a real shot at winning the game.

Oakland 6, Detroit 3. Tolja the best chance for the A's to win was to get to Verlander early, and they did.

As a courtesy to the green-and-gold fans, here's the game time and probables:

Next game: Wednesday, Oakland (74-57, 35-32 away) @ Detroit (77-55, 41-25 home), 7:08 Eastern (4:08 Pacific).

Oakland TV: CSNCA. Radio: 95.7 FM The Game.
Detroit TV: FS-D. Radio: 97.1 The Ticket.

Probables: Straily (6-7, 4.56) vs. Fister (11-6, 3.54).

When Milone came out and laid an egg in the bottom of the 1st (with some help from Alberto Callaspo), I was hoping for a rainout because it was looking like a long night for the bullpen. That first inning took almost an hour.

But then he settled down, the A's took a lead just in time for the game to be official and no bullpen arms were burned at all. It's always nice to be on the lucky side of the rain-shortened game.

Well we got our split, but now I'm feeling greedy. I would like to get one more. Straily was awful his last time out though. He has the ability to shut teams down, so I'm hoping we get the good version of him tonight.

Same here. We've been seeing crappy baseball for about 3 weeks now, I'd like to see a hot stretch for a while. It would also make a statement to get hot against the best competition. And those tigers are scary good.

Am I reading it right? Is the probables for tomorrow:
DET: Scherzer (19-1)
OAK: Colon (14-5)

Is the pants model coming off the DL to go against Mr. Cy Young?

Yup - and it's a day game. I'm really excited about the match-up.

Before Colon went on the DL, his last couple starts were bad. He couldn't place his fastball and he really needs to hit the corners or he's hammered.

-edit: I hope the 2 weeks of rest will help that. He's never really had a good 1/2 half of *any* season. Well, maybe the Cy Young year about 10 years ago.

After the ASB his velocity was also way down. Reports from the bullpen session sound like he's back to his early season self, or we can hope. I guess we will find out tomorrow.

Brett Anderson is back and Tommy Milone to AAA.

Sounds like Anderson will be in the bullpen initially, but I'm guessing he'll end up back in the rotation before long. Too many question marks in the rotation right now.

We need him back. Our rotation is a bit shaky at the moment.

20 Freaking hits right now and it's in the 8th. 20! 20! I can't remember the last time we had more than 15, regardless of 20.

Can't say I saw the A's doing this to Detroit. Where was this in the 2012 ALDS?

Oakland 14, Detroit 4. [Boxscore] *grumbles loudly*

As a courtesy:

Next game: Oakland (75-57, 36-32 away) @ Detroit (77-56, 41-26 home), 1:08 Eastern (10:08 AM Pacific).

Oakland TV: MLBN. Radio: 95.7 FM The Game.
Detroit TV: FS-D, MLBN. Radio: 97.1 The Ticket.

Probables: Colon (14-5, 2.97 ERA, 1.19 WHIP) vs. Scherzer (19-1, 2.73 ERA, 0.91 WHIP) in a huge marquee match-up.

Maybe the two teams will meet in the ALDS again, assuming the Tigers get their act back together and the A's make it into the p'offs.

W-L column shows the A's took 3 out of 4 from the Tigers in Detroit which is fantastic. But the way the one loss happened makes it feel like 6 losses. We just have to hope the A's are better than we are at putting it behind them.
