The real reason for this is not gamer interest. It's the fact that historical statistics for football (soccer) are simply not available. More importantly, the sport has never maintained individual and team statistics that lend themselves to automated proper player evaluation and creation. So there is no possibility of a viable historical database. Games like FM must base player attributes entirely on subjective evaluations and minimal statistics.

There are similar problems in other sports. The NBA didn't even begin to record individual statistics for steals, blocked shots, offensive vs. defensive rebounds, and turnovers until 1973. This leaves a massive gap in key statistics that measure defense, ball handling, and rebounding. This doesn't preclude games from offering historical leagues and players from before 1973, because some do, but it eliminates the ability of a game developer to use a statistical database to easily create player attributes and therefore offer historical gameplay.

As LGO pointed out, baseball is the only sport with a 100+ year history that is recorded in detailed statistics, covering offense, defense, and nearly any category needed to compute player attributes. Hence, we have OOTP with its historical game mode.

Believe me, if SI could somehow provide a historical database and enable historical play from past seasons, then FM would include that option. And there would be many FM gamers that would use it.

The NHL stats since it's creation are all available, so the baseball isn't the only sport with all its stats available. But of course the league was founded in 1917 and the limited ammount of stats tracked isn't enough to judge a player real talent as it's more a team sport than an individual one.

For those who don't know NHL is the National Hockey League.

Most of the hockey leagues history is available here.

Yeah I know I'm way off topic. But as we talk about other sports historical statistics availability...

I'll have to try the text to speech stuff when I get home, thanks for posting. I'm not expecting Bob Ueker, but I'm willing to try it when I get home as I like to let OOTP play in the background while I am working on a different computer.

I see you got it Chicago, but you really only need SpeechSDK51
Search the internet for "free text to speech voices" and you can find more voices that are free. Some are better than others.

I looked at about 2 pages worth on download.net but couldn;t find what i wanted or 1 that would work properly that was free. Even Truevoice, had the robotic voice which you could pay for. The UK version sounded like Steve Martin as Inspector Clousseau.

You can try this, it's 3 voices +. If your leary of the exe file, here's a breakdown ms=microsoft.........tts=text to speech .......not sure what the l means but I think it's Language. If so then here it means the voices include different languages. Hope this helps.
http://ftp.pcworld.com/pub/new/graph...ols/msttsl.exe
I think you need voices that are compatible with the SAPI 5 engine. There's also sapi 4 which I don't think you need and they don't work with sapi 5.
Here's another listing. It has both sapi 5 & 4. You need sapi5. It tells you which version you need for your os anyway if your not sure.
Free Text to Speech Natural Voices | Text To Speech Software with Free Natural Voices - Zero2000.com
Don't let the named link fool you, You can dl just the voices.
If you need to search more, use this search criteria in google. "free text to speech voices for windows xp"

What I would really like to see is rather than having animated graphics..instead.."ballpark graphics" where different ballparks are generated base on a financial stadium building feature.

No time right now to read this entire thread, but I could give a rip about a graphic engine. There are plenty of legacy (and new) concerns that people have been talking about forever that haven't been fixed. Continue to work on that stuff and make it better. Like someone said on the first page, there's nothing particular groundbreaking about OOTP 12, and for me, 13 will have to have some pretty significant fixes for me to buy it.

Something like this was part of the original plan. There were going to be customizable graphical ballparks added to the game. But now the original plans are scrapped, and we'll have to see what happens.

I'd be happy with graphics like that of EA's World Series Superstars Facebook app.

You know, I grow increasingly irritated that you have to log on or join Facebook in order to simply view a page or a cover page. I don't do social networking. Hell, I don't even do social very well, but seriously, one can't even view a page without belonging? Was it always like this?! Sorry, didn't mean to distract, just curious.

even if that isn't done..I still think ballpark building based on financials should be incorporated...the other is just cosmetic.

P.S. I doubt the graphics can really get much better than the MVP ones by Padresfan...only problem is fictional parks.

If it's a public Facebook page, you don't have to like it or be a Facebook member. But many organizations are either going with settings that force you to join or like a page, or many are now using a clever trick to fool people into liking their pages. They use a special announcement panel on their Facebook page, and it becomes the default. So, when you visit the page, it says something such as "Like us to see more about our exciting XYZ!" So people think they have to click the like button, when all they have to do is click to the Wall tab or any other tab to see the usual content.

It looks something like this....

World Series Superstars on Facebook: Baseball strategy done right

When there's a batted ball, do you actually get to see the play happen? Otherwise it's pretty close to what we have now.

Ha...I just noticed that the stands are almost empty in the first image and it looks like you can request fans!

Thanks again, but I just realized, that link is about speech recognition, how you can talk to your computer, not the other way around. I can get TTS working in the OS, it's just that OOTP doesn't seem to support it (on a Mac) on its end.

For a game that a very substantial part of the user base plays with ficitional teams and fictional ballparks that would be a big new feature.

I don't expect Padrefans quality rendering of fictional parks, but I'd love something a little more basic, kind of an upgraded version of what was in the Earl Weaver series 20+ years ago.
