I know everyone has said 'Tougher/Smarter AI', but how about a simpler version of this.We all know its a crap shoot in the playoffs, but we also know how easy it is to win 100+ every single season and easily win the division every year...how about making it tougher to win the division..or win 100+ games, or just basically making it very hard work to make the playoffs. Not so much making the regular season a total crapshoot, but there's got to be a way to make making the post season alot harder than what it currently is.I would love to have a team go on a run winning 100+ for a few seasons in a row but then all of sudden win only 80 games and not make the playoffs. Not saying it should be randon, b/c it definitely shouldn't, I'm just saying it should be difficult and alot of hard work to make the playoffs. I guess that's where we're back to the 'Touger AI' suggestion.Just wanted to make a mention of this

[\quote] IIRC Markus said something around the time of OOTP8 that win shares were too complex to warrant including.[/quote]
Agreed that it would be a lot to ask to have this built into the game. Granted, I am not an Access and Excel expert but I am pretty good with them and it took me a couple of weeks to build a Win Shares workbook. It is incredibly complex and I am sure that a number of other game improvements would have to be shelved to get them in. As I noted in an earlier reply, I just want the end of season statistic reports and exports to include all players who played during the season regardless of whether they retire mid-season. This is a significant issue when doing end of year evaluations like Win Shares. Last edited by professor ape; 02-16-2009 at 11:30 AM. |

Suggestion: Make this kind of question a poll with about 20 potential choices. Let people vote for 3 choices in all, then concentrate on making the top 3 to 5 happen, if feasable. I would think that may make your filtering through all the info in threads like these MUCH easier.

In Game Updates
For those of us who play out a teams game's, it would be cool to have out of town updates in between innings.
The game already allows for other games to be taking place while your game is going. I think it would be cool (mostly during the stretch run of a season) to get an out of town update in the PBP for crtical games taking place for your league. Updates could also include milestones being reached, extensions of long hitting streaks, injuries to key players, etc. The general request here is the more the game appears to be aware of the universe that is being run, the more immersions takes place and the more immersion, the better.

I like playing with a 154 game schedule and the 162 game average line on a players batting stats drives me nuts. So it would be nice if that line would dynamically change based on how many games your schedule has.

I like Potato Peeler's idea with the game dynamically updating stats to your schedule rather than 162.
I also like injury log's post about updating the way the game handles injuries but... If I had to rank them updating the pitching model, if possible, would be number 1. Give ratings for the type of pitches thrown and throw out endurance. Enhance the AI so that it knows a guy with three good pitches (65+ on the 20-80 scale) should be a starter and those without can be started, but would probably do better in a relief role. Often relief will also add a mile or two to a pitchers fastball because he can air it out, rather than trying to pace himself over 6-8 sometimes 9 innings.

Here's something I haven't seen mentioned. The ability for the game player to call pitches like a catcher would. For instance, set up low and outside and call for a curve. The abilities of the pitcher would come into play as in how well he could make that pitch - and the abilities of the batter in how well he can judge and hit it. And of course the pitcher could call off the pitch (and this could be an ability too - how well he can make choices for calling off!)
In tandem with the above somewhat fanciful idea is the game having the ability to rate how well pitchers throw each kind of pitch AND how well batters can hit a pitch. Wouldn't it be great to be in the late innings of a game, close score, the pitcher's spot in the lineup is up and you as a manager have to choose a pinch hitter. There is a great curve ball pitcher on the mound, player A may be able to hit a curve ball better than player B - but player B has better overall batting ratings but isn't so great on the curveball. Do you go with player A or B? Isn't this a real-life kind of managerial decision? Also, from managing pitchers, how about the choice of bringing in a Quisenberry against a lineup of curveball wheenies or an Eckersley (or similar fireballer) against a lineup that has some fastball hitting weaknesses? Don't real life managers and pitching coaches have to deal with this? Don't scouts "measure" this? And don't some minor leaguers coming up to the show freak out when facing a major-league curveball and some never quite get the hang of it, even though they had great minor league success hitting minor league pitching? We've all heard the anecdotes of pitchers saving their careers by learning a pitch - and of pitchers getting worse when they lose a pitch. Ah...the complexities.... ![]() ... but wouldn't it be cool!

I remember what I'd put in.
I'd incorporate the media into the game, a la FM09. Press conferences that have a bearing on the future, and can bring a clubhouse together...or divide one. You could actually be like Earl Weaver, or Joe Torre, or Leo Durocher or Casey Stengel, in how you handle your team through the media. I started a thread about this a bit ago, and it got a lot of positive responses. If it doesn't (and likely won't) make it in for v10, it has to be in for v11. I was really hoping that the SI partnership would've brought this...I'm still holding out hope that it gets in there sometime soon. |

How about a report that designates all the league settings for online leagues?
Customizable obviously to not show things the commish wants to keep secret of course. |
