Me too. Both of their power has been zapped, so it's going to be interesting to see where they both end up in total homeruns for us.

Team Record: 45-57
Sim Record: 4-5 Games 7/21 - 7-3 WIN @ Nevada - Long won his 8th game of the year (7 IP, 8 H, 3 ER), but the real story was Tyson Bacon's single in his first at bat as a born again Ram. He scored 2 runs. Mingo and Massengill had 3 hits each with Mingo picking up 4 RBIs. 7/22 - 7-4 loss @ Nevada - Herold only went 2.2 innings, allowing 6 hits and 6 runs. Mingo, Warner, Long, and McLaughlin each had doubles. Bacon had another single. 7/23 - 4-3 WIN @ Idaho - McKie allowed just 1 run on 7 hits to lead us to victory. Mingo hit his 8th triple of the year and Grimes hit his 4th homer of the year to pace the offense. Souza got the save, after allowing 2 runs. 7/24 - 8-4 WIN @ Idaho - We had a 7 run 4th inning and Steelman picked up his first win of the year. During the game, everyone in the starting lineup, except for McLaughlin, scored a run. Bacon had a double and 2 RBIs and Massengill followed suit with his 4th homerun of the year. 7/25 - 2-1 loss @ Idaho - Perez allowed less hits than the oppoenent did, but allowed one more run (7.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R). Bacon (double), Mingo, and Koenig each had 2 hits. 7/26 - 9-6 loss @ Wisconsin - Paul Long got a little roughed up (4.1 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 BBs) as he was having control problems. Mingo had 3 hits, including his 9th triple. Bacon continued to impress in his time back with a single and a run scored. 7/27 - 3-2 WIN @ Wisconsin - Herold went 6 shutout innings allowing just 3 hits to win PoG honors and Souza picked up his 12th save (allowing nary a hit this time). Massengill and Mingo each had 2 hits and Bacon chipped in with his own, a run, and a stolen base (his 18th of the year). Hal Rehm also saw his first action as a born again Ram, coming in as a defensive replacement. 7/28 - 3-2 loss @ Wisconsin - Really, the only news in this one was in Hal Rehm's 2nd at bat of the day, he doubled. McKie pitched well, but there was no offense behind him. 7/29 - Off Day 7/30 - 12-0 loss @ Texas - Ouch! Only 3 hits (singles by Massengill, Warner, and Ramos). Perez had his shortest outing of the year (2 IP, 6 H, 8 R, 5 BBs). Ugly. Standings Code:

Team Record: 49-63
Sim Record: 4-6 Games 7/31 - 9-0 loss @ Texas - We managed 3 hits (Bacon, Koenig, and McLaughlin). There wasn't a whole lot that Paul Long could do that would give us the win in this game. 8/1 - 7-3 WIN @ Texas - Hennen came back to the lineup in a big way going 1-4, but driving in 4 guys. Jerkins went 3-4 with 3 RBIs. MacKenzie ended up getting the win as Herold only went 5.1 IP. 8/2 - Off Day 8/3 - 8-2 loss vs New Mexico - McKie pitched as well as I thought he would (6 IP, 7 H, 4 ER), and our offense was good, but not good enough. Koenig led the team with 3 hits. 8/4 - 16-0 loss vs New Mexico - Ouch! Here are the pitching lines: Perez (6.1 IP, 7 H, 4 ER), Shimizu (0.1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER), Briscoe (0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER), MacKenzie (1.1 IP, 5 H, 6 ER), and Jacobs (0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R). The good news? Grimes and Hennen each had 2 hits and Warner had a triple. 8/5 - 5-2 loss vs New Mexico - Bacon had 2 of our 5 hits and he hit a homerun (so he and Rehm are now tied at the top of the career Ram leaders). Long again takes the loss (6 IP, 10 H, 4 ER). 8/6 - 6-3 WIN vs Minnesota (11 innings) - I'll only talk about Massengill here, as he's all there is to talk about. The man went 3-5 with 4 RBIs (3 of those RBIs came on a walk-off homerun in the 11th inning). 8/7 - 3-1 WIN vs Minnesota - Beating the Wolves isn't a very impressive feat this year, but Steelman will take the win regardless (7 IP, 6 H, 1 R). Jerkins hit his 8th homerun. 8/8 - 3-2 loss vs Minnesota - McKie just can't get any offensive support. He pitched well (7 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 6 Ks). Jerkins had 2 hits. 8/9 - 3-2 WIN @ Illinois (13 innings) - Chris Baker hit a 13th inning solo homerun and Tyson Bacon had 3 hits. Salvatore Perez won player of the game even though he didn't factor in the decision (7 IP, 5 H, 2 ER). 8/10 - 8-3 loss @ Illinois - Paul Long loses again, but this was more his fault (6.2 IP, 5 H, 7 R). Massengill hit his 6th homerun. Standings Code:

Team Record: 50-71
Sim Record: 1-8 Games 8/11 - 5-4 loss @ Illinois - Herold had a decent outing (6.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R), but Jacobs allowed 2 runs, one by homerun, to give the Jethawks the lead in the 8th inning. We only managed 5 hits (3 of them by Koenig), and McLaughlin is one hit closer to 2,000 with his 192nd homerun (1st of the year). 8/12 - Off Day 8/13 - 4-1 loss @ Kansas - McLaughlin hits his 1,999th hit, but we only manage 6 others (one of which being Vin Koenig's 4th homerun of the year). McKie goes the distance (8 IP, 8 H, 4 R). 8/14 - 5-1 loss @ Kansas - Massengill has 2 of our 6 hits and scores our only run while Perez gets LIT up (2.1 IP, 6 H, 5 ER) and loses his 5th straight decision. 8/15 - 8-7 loss @ Kansas - McLaughlin gets his 2,000th hit in the 3rd inning, and later scores, and can now retire in peace. We scored 5 runs in the 6th inning, but it wasn't quite enough. This was capped off by Schuh's pinch hit homerun. Paul Long was only able to go 0.2 IP before giving up 5 runs on 5 hits. 8/16 - 2-1 WIN @ Nevada - Herold pitches beautifully (7 IP, 8 H, 5 Ks, 1 R). Baker hit a solo homerun in the 2nd inning and Herold doubled in the 5th, later scoring on a Richard Jerkins double. 8/17 - 13-0 loss @ Nevada - Thus begins the pounding that the Jacks lay on us the next three games. They must not have been happy to lose 2-1 yesterday as they come out with 13 runs on 14 hits. Steelman allowed 5 runs in 3.2 innings. On the offensive side, Hennen had a double as well as a single to lead our team, who managed 7 hits. 8/18 - 16-0 loss @ Nevada - The pounding ensues. We manage 3 hits: a single and a double by Nightmare Massengill and another double by Robert Long. McKie took the brunt of this one. 8/19 - 13-1 loss @ Nevada - Newly acquired Jacob Perl beats his former team with with a 4 hit, 1 run performance. Ward Chee never appeared in the series. Perez again can't make it out of the 4th inning (3.2 IP, 5 H, 6 R) to drop his record to 9-11. Jerkins, Koenig, Massengill, and Bacon had our hits. (Pretty sad when you name your offensive stars as the ones who had hits in the game.) 8/20 - 6-5 loss @ Washington (11 innings) - Paul Long pitches well, but doesn't go deep into the ballgame (5 IP, 7 H, 3 R) and MacKenzie ends up taking the loss. Massengill and McLaughlin each had 2 hits and an RBI. Standings Code:

Team Record: 51-80
Sim Record: 1-9 Games 8/21 - 10-2 loss @ Washington - Herold allowed 4 runs in 2.1 innings and we don't do a whole lot on the offensive end. Jerkins "starred" having 2 hits and 2 RBIs. 8/22 - 5-3 loss @ Washington - Steelman outlasted Herold's start yesterday, but not by much, going 3.2 innings, allwing 5 runs. Kyle Warner had 3 hits. 8/23 - 3-2 loss vs Utah - McKie allows just 1 run in 7 innings, but our bullpen blew it (probably because they are pitching so much these days). Jerkins and Mingo each had 2 hits. 8/24 - 7-6 loss vs Utah - Perez loses another game (7.2 IP, 10 H, 7 ER), but we were in it the whole time. Mingo had 3 hits and 2 RBI. 8/25 - 1-0 loss vs Utah (10 innings) - Paul Long went 6 shutout innings of 3-hit ball, but Shimizu allowed the winning run to score. We only managed 5 hits, none of which were for extra bases. 8/26 - Off Day 8/27 - 7-2 loss vs Idaho - Long had 2 hits and Herold pitched for 5.1 innings, allowing 4 earned runs. Not a whole lot to say about this team right now. 8/28 - 3-2 WIN vs Idaho - Richard Jerkins wins player of the game as he hit his 9th homer in the first inning and followed up with another RBI later in the game. McKie pitched for 7 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 runs. 8/29 - 5-3 loss vs Idaho - Perez loses his 8th straight decision (3.1 IP, 9 H, 5 ER). So much for rookie of the year. Jerkins hits his 10th homerun. 8/30 - 5-1 loss vs Idaho - Long gets shelled (2.2 IP, 9 H, 5 ER), but our bullpen doesn't allow a run the rest of the game. McLaughlin scored our lone run after walking. 8/31 - 6-4 loss vs Texas - Steelman was pretty good today, actually (8 IP, 7 H, 3 R). Hennen (2 runs) and Koenig (2 RBIs) each had 2 hits. But he's not quite ready yet. I'm hoping for somewhat of a bump in spring training. Any bump in his contact and he'll be up for sure. Dale Couch, who isn't on this list but is the #45 ranked prospect in the league, is tearing it up in single A (.356, 22 HR, 81 RBI). But he's only 19 years old and years away from the big time. Paydirt James has been toggling between AAA and AA all season. This year in AAA, he is 2-2 with a 5.45 ERA. Not ready for the majors, but he's on track. He's only 19 by the way. Panic Mesick is going to get the call up, at least for a brief time, this September. He's still got some growing to do, but he is TEARING UP AAA batting right now (1.06 WHiP and a .226 BABIP). Code:

Team Record: 53-87
Sim Record: 2-7 Games 9/1 - 2-1 loss vs Texas - Chip Herold joined the ranks of the double digit loss club with his 6 inning, 7 hit, 2 run outing. Not a bad start, but when your team only gets 4 hits, good things aren't going to happen. 9/2 - 5-2 loss vs Texas - Perez has now lost 9 straight. Yikes! He didn't fair to well in this one either (3.1 IP, 6 H, 5 ER). We again managed only 4 hits, one of which was a Richard Jerkins 2-run homerun. 9/3 - 6-2 loss vs Texas - Panic Mesick made his major league debut! Not a good outing at all (4.1 IP, 7 H, 5 ER). The offense managed 7 hits though with Grimes hitting a homerun. 9/4 - 4-3 WIN vs Wisconsin (18 innings) - 18 innings and 16 hits for us. We BETTER have won this game. Long had a nice outing (7.1 IP, 5 H, 2 ER), and then we used 6 more pitchers who averaged a little under 2 innings each, with Stier picking up the win. Contoeras had 3 hits, but none contributed to any runs. 9/5 - 6-2 loss vs Wisconsin (14 innings) - The Lumberjacks get us back tonight. They unloaded on Montana and Briscoe in the 14th inning. Steelman had an awesome game! He went 9 innings allowing just 1 run on 6 hits. Hennen had 2 hits with a run and an RBI. 9/6 - 10-2 WIN @ Minnesota - Baker went 2 for 4 with a 3-run homerun and Tyson Bacon went 3-5 with 2 runs and an RBI to lead us to victory. Herold pitched well for 5 innings, allowing just 4 hits and 2 runs to pick up the win. 9/7 - 4-3 loss @ Minnesota (10 innings) - Souza lost this one on an RBI triple in the 10th. Perez pitched well enough to win (7 IP, 7 H, 3 ER), but the offense couldn't help him out, although we did accumulate 4 doubles on 7 hits. 9/8 - 6-0 loss @ Minnesota - When your starting pitcher (Mesick) goes 7 IP, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs with 6 Ks, you have a chance to win. But when the opposing pitcher goes the distance and allows only 3 hits, you can't win. The only bright spot on offense was Grimes' 25th stolen base of the year. 9/9 - Off Day 9/10 - 6-3 loss @ New Mexico - Massengill had an RBI triple and long went 6 innings allowing 3 runs, but our offense just can't provide much power as we lose again. Nope... I'm almost toying with the no nickname approach. Or have him earn it.

He's been around for a long time, both suffering and experiencing the greatness of the Rams. No one has played first base for the Rams more than Rehm and I could always pencil him in the lineup. He broke out in that 2015 season when he finally got out of the shadow of Tyson Bacon and made a serious case for the Hall of Fame. It's just too bad that he declined so quickly. He was in the 30-30 club 4 times. However, he was never very good at getting on base. But man, could he hit. For those who are unaware, he was traded during the 2020 season to Louisiana for some draft picks and players. That was when we started our rebuilding process. His Stats Code:

Team Record: 57-92
Sim Record: 4-5 Games 9/11 - 5-2 WIN @ New Mexico - We scored 2 runs in each of the 8th and 9th innings thanks in large part to a 2-RBI pinch hit single by Mingo in the 8th and a 2-RBI single in the 9th by Baker. Jerkins also added a homerun. Herold could only stay in for 4 innings before being lifted after 87 pitches. 9/12 - 3-1 loss @ New Mexico - 10 hits and only 1 stinkin' run? Perez allowed just 4 hits, but allowed 3 runs (2 unearned) - so he's lost 10 in a row now. Jerkins had 2 doubles. 9/13 - 4-3 WIN vs California - Again, we score 2 in the 8th and 1 in the 9th thanks in large party to a 2-run homerun by Grimes and a solo shot by Baker. Mesick pitched really well (7 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 7 Ks), but didn't get the offennsive support to qualify for the win. 9/14 - 7-2 WIN vs California - Steelman allowed 5 hits and 2 runs in 8 innings and our offense exploded for 13 hits. Contoeras had 4, but Rehm went 2-2 (with 2 doubles) scoring 3 runs. Grimes hit his 7th homerun. 9/15 - 11-4 loss vs Washington - Long has lost 7 straight decisions (5.1 IP, 5 H, 6 ER). Contoeras, Hennen, and Koenig each had 2 hits. 9/16 - 7-2 loss vs Washington - Herold lasted just 0.1 innings, allowing 5 runs. Our offense wasn't on either. Grimes had 2 hits and 2 RBI, so he was basically all the offense. 9/17 - 9-0 WIN vs Utah - THERE'S the Perez we know and love! A complete game shutout (5 hits, 5 Ks)! Tyson Bacon had a hit, 2 runs, and 2 RBI. 9/18 - 5-1 loss vs Utah - Mesick is not giving me a lot of hope that he can compete at this level yet (3.1 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 7 BB). It's the walks that I am worried about. Contoeras has 3 hits. 9/19 - 3-1 loss vs Utah - This doesn't look like the line of a loser: 8.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R. But it is as Steelman can't get any offensive support. Steelman himself had the only extra base hit (a double). Jerkins and Contoeras added two hits apiece. 9/20 - Off Day Standings Code:

Massachusetts has 95 wins... I just don't understand it. Look at Kinchen and his 19 homeruns. Those really would look nice at shortstop. However, we got Perez for him, so I'm happy with the deal.

Team Record: 61-98
Sim Record: 4-6 Games 9/21 - 2-1 loss @ Idaho (15 innings) - We used 27 players in this game, with only 8 of them being pitchers. Long went 6.2 innings allowing just a run and Montana ended up giving up a couple singles and the winning run to get the loss. We only had 8 hits the entire game, with Grimes hitting two of them. 9/22 - 2-1 loss @ Idaho - Perez pitched well, but lost (7 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 5 Ks) to drop his record to 10-16. Massengill had 2 hits and Grimes had a triple. 9/23 - 5-3 WIN @ Idaho - Richard Jerkins went 3-4 scoring 2 runs with an RBI to lead us to victory. Chip Herold got the win as he went 7 innings alliwng 9 hits and 3 runs with 5 strikeouts. 9/24 - 3-1 loss @ Utah - Panic drops to 0-4 with a fairly decent outing (7 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 6 Ks). Grimes and Massengill combine for 4 of our 7 hits. 9/25 - 7-5 WIN @ Utah - Alex Acevedo got his first start in over a year and didn't fair too well (4 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 3 BB). He was injured and had to be taken out of the game. Jerkins, Tolerton, and Schuh all had homeruns. Where was this power all season, boys? 9/26 - 5-2 WIN @ Utah - Paul Long had 2 hits and 2 RBIs to pace the offense. He also pitched pretty well too (8 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 Ks). 9/27 - 11-1 loss vs Nevada - We managed just two hits (a single by Koenig and a double by Contoeras), and Perez and company get lit up. Perez himself only went 3.2 innings, giving up 9 hits, and 6 ER. 9/28 - 12-4 loss vs Nevada - Grimes, Massengill, Koenig, and Bacon get 2 hits each, but that's not enough to overcome the disaster that was our pitching staff. Herold started it all going 1 2/3 innings, giving up 6 hits, and allowing 6 runs. My boy Jacob Perl beat us to get his 13th win of the year. 9/29 - 6-1 WIN vs Nevada - THIS is what we can look forward to. Panic Mesick won his 1st game, with a complete game 5 hitter with 3 Ks as he obviously won Player of the Game. Hal Rehm went 2 for 3 with a triple, an RBI, and 2 runs scored. 9/30 - 5-1 loss vs Washington - Paul Long pitched like he normally does (7 IP, 5 H, 4 ER), and our offense can't give him any help managing only 6 hits (1 of which was by Long himself). Hennen and Contoeras had 2 hits apiece. Standings Code:

Team Record: 61-101
Sim Record: 0-3 Games 9/1 - 18-5 loss vs Washington - Steelman, Shimizu, Herold, and MacKenzie get KILLED during this game, the other 4 pitchers didn't allow a run. Koenig scored 2 runs on 2 hits. 9/2 - 9-3 loss vs Washington - McKie got the start, and only lasted 3.2 innings allowing 8 hits and 6 earned runs. Mingo and Grimes each had a triple. 9/3 - 10-2 loss vs Washington - I had Souza start his last game as a Ram. He pitched fine, but apparently he just wasn't meant for being a starter as he only threw 52 pitches in 2 innings (5 hits, 2 ER, 3 walks). Nightmare Massengill had a double and his 7th homerun of the year along with driving in all of our runs. Contoeras also had 2 hits and McLaughlin added one. In their last games as Rams, Bacon went 0-4 with a K and a man left on base. Rehm went 0-3 with a walk. Standings Code:

I could see Jerkins playing here as well. 2B Koenig or Schatz SS I might try a rookie here, Naldo Reyes or Ramon Arais. 3B Massengill LF Hennen CF Contoeras RF Schuh It doesn't look too hot, but hopefully these guys will develop some. Not a great sim for Bacon and Rehm as they had 3 hits in the last 3 games. Bacon had his last RBI on the 1st. He's Been with the Team since the Beginning
Rafael Souza
Pitcher Years on the Rams: 2003-2022 Awards All-Star Selections - 2009, 2020 Leaderboard (Not including this years stats) Code:
30th All Time - Win % - .612 39th All Time - G Pitched - 794 46th All Time - HR Allowed - 241 40th All Time - Strikeouts - 1788 42nd All Time - H/9 innings - 7.4 38th All Time - K/9 innings - 7.3 26th All Time - WHiP - 1.04 39th All Time - OAVG - .222 21st All Time - OOBP - .265 Gray Ink Test: 46 HoF Standards: 48 Team Records His 40 saves in 2020 is the 5th highest ever for a Ram. In 2009, he went out to the mound for 244.0 innings, 3rd most in a season for any Ram. In that same season he allowed only 1 BB/9 IP, 5th for any Ram. He also had a WHiP of 0.86 that season, which ranked 6th. 2013 was also a good season for Rafael when he had a OOBP of .238 (9th), and OAVG of .197 (10th), and a WHiP of 0.89 (10th). Career Team Records #2 in Wins, Innings Pitched, Hits Allowed, BBs Allowed, #3 in Losses, Homeruns Allowed, Strikeouts, WHiP, OOBP #4 in Games Pitched #5 in ERA, Winning Percentage, Games Started, H/9 IP, K/9 IP, OAVG #6 in BB/9 IP #7 in Saves (which will be higher after this season), OOPS #8 in Shutouts #9 in OSLG #10 in Complete Games Commentary Rafael Souza was a guy who early in his career I couldn't really count on. He'd always be on the bubble of being great, but then he'd get hurt. The man had awesome talent, but was plagued by injuries early in his career. When he started games, he won. Unfortunately, all the injuries hurt his endurance, and he wasn't able to pitch deep into games, so I converted him to a reliever in the 2018 season. To put the injury thing in persepective, the Rams went to the playoffs EVERY year from 2009 until 2018 (10 years). Rafael pitched in just 7 of them. Lately, he's been the most consistent person in the pen and even took over the roll of closer at age 39, when he recorded 40 saves. He may not have been as influential as Rehm or Bacon, and he may not have the Hall of Fame resume like those two do, but he has been a very imporant part of the Rams for almost 20 years and it will be sad when I don't have a chance to write his name into our pitching staff next season. I still have to put Tyson Bacon's stats up, but I am waiting for our Catobase issue to be worked out. Also, a former Ram, Clarence McNatt was elected into the Hall of Fame last season, so I hopefully will write something about that.
Other news.... The 2023 Draft It was a bit quiet on the Ram front as we only had 4 picks. So let me introduce you to the future of the Rams. Gustavo Vizcaino - RF - 20 years old - 1st round, 4th pick 6/9/9/9/6 talent This is a five star talent who hopefully will plug our GIGANTIC hole in the middle of the lineup someday. I was a little disapointed that we couldn't get a better hitter (someone with better contact), but he was the best player available. He's currently the 13th best prospect in the league (in the best minor league system in the league, still). Roberto Palaeios - 1B - 22 years old - 2nd round, 28th overall 6/6/6/6/6 I wasn't around for the draft, so I made a list. I haven't been back to check it out and see who else was available, but I am a little disapointed by this pick. He may be solid, but for a first baseman, he doesn't have a lot of pop. Kevin Roldan - 2B - 21 years old - 3rd round, 52nd overall 5/7/5/4/6 Nothing special. He's pretty advanced right now, so a little more development could see him in the majors sooner rather than later. Web Garza - C - 17 years old - 4th round, 76th overall 5/6/2/6/6 It's sad when you pick up a potential starting catcher in the last round of a draft. Normally, I would think that this kid would never reach the majors, but with this team? You never know. Minor League System As mentioned, we are the number one system, again. Code:

The 2023 Season is upon us!
2023 Season Team Record: 4-1 Sim Record: 4-1 Games 4/6 - 9-2 loss @ California - Carlos Contoeras had a single and a 2-run homerun, but Salvatore Perez and Ryan Dyer let up 8 runs in 6.1 innings. Perez did have 7 K's though. Not the best way to start the season off for the Rams. 4/7 - 4-1 WIN @ California - Chris Baker had 2 hits and 2 RBIs and also scored a run while Paul Long allowed just 1 run in 6 innings to win Player of the Game. 4/8 - 10-8 WIN @ California - Panic's first game of the yera didn't go so well (4.2 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 6 BB). Stier picked up the win. Grimes (HR) and Massengill each had 3 hits. Jerkins also chipped in with a homerun. Hennen had 3 RBIs. 4/9 - 2-0 WIN @ Nevada - This game was all Chip Herold. He allowed 1 hit in 8.1 innings and Takanobu Shimizu came in to get the save. Hennen hit his first homerun of the year. 4/10 - 2-0 WIN @ Nevada - Chet McKie still has some magic left (9 IP, CG, 7 H, 5 Ks) as he throws a shutout. Grimes has three hits, including a double, and an RBI. Standings Code:

A few spots to fill. I'm glad to see that they went out as Rams. Also, for those that think we are going to stay in first place... you are in a dream world, my friend. Pitching Code:

I don't expect the first three to be THAT good all season, and I don't expect Perez and Mesick to be that BAD all season. Lineup Code:
