Seattle's sure not in much of a hurry.

I don't mind the trick plays at all. They're legal, they're risky, and if you run 'em and get 'em to work, you deserve the success. But the officiating... ye gods, this whole postseason should have an asterisk.

Speaking of horrific officiating, what about the sack on Hasselbeck by the defensive tackle. There was a Steelers defender two yards in the backfield before the ball was snapped on that particular play. Fooking ridiculous. Worst Superbowl in a long, long, long, long time.

The teams suck, the coaches suck and choke, and the refs suck. Halftime show suckalicious as well.

Same thing happened on the play before, too -- leading to the holding penalty.

I'd like to have seen that one frame by frame. I wasn't completely sure he was offside. Often a well-timed guess on the snap count looks at first glance like it's offside. But yeah, I thought the same thing.

you left off the fact that ABC should never be allowed to broadcast the Super Bowl again

"Worst Super Bowl in a long, long, longer time". Is that comment in reference to the officiating or the actual game play? Because aside from a few questionable calls, there have been some good plays, some interesting plays, and until right about now it's never actually been out of reach for either team.

how many, if any, onside kick recoveries have there been in Super Bowl history?

A mediocre Super Bowl for an NFL defined by mediocrity masked as parity. Much like last year, the final score will probably be close but won't be indicative of a very exciting game.

Some iffy officiating has helped to deflate any attempts by the game to become "exciting". Lots of fits, starts, and hiccups...

Reading only this current page, it would seem my sentiment is shared by others here. Mediocre is exceedingly generous. Some of the blow-outs (looking at you Denver) were bad, but this was a terrible game in every facet.

Both.

All hyperbole aside, the quality of play in this game was poor. Hines Ward made some nice plays, and I certainly wouldn't mind Hasselbeck as the quarterback of my team.

Holmgren's choke on the final drive of the first half cost the Seahawks dearly.

Eh, I just think Tampa's blowout win over Oakland in XXXVI and Baltimore's blowout win over New York in XXXV (neither of which were a long, long, long time ago) are examples of worse games in terms of the whole product. Throw everything else out the window and at least tonight's game was being contested in the fourth quarter.

True, the game remained close. However, that makes the lack of quality that much more disappointing. Hines Ward wins the MVP with 5 receptions for 123 yards and 1 TD, plus one 18-yard rush. About 80 of the yards were on the two key plays. That Ward wins the MVP with as little as he did is another illustration of how poor the quality of the game was. Just because an 8th-grade B team game was close does not mean you want to watch it, much less have it be the biggest game of the year.

At least in the blowout games someone has played well. Pittsburgh made a few big plays, a handful of key plays like for first downs, and Seattle moved the ball at times, but that was about it. Very disappointing.

Id say this was the worst all-around Super Bowl in decades, those may have been ****ty games on the field, but at least the broadcast and festivities surrounding the game (before and during) were entertaining...this entire broadcast I was yelling at madden, bitching at the refs or simply frustrated with ABC...I wanted the game to end as soon as possible.

Only what? 5 months till mini-camps?

I'm much rather see a team play really well and whomp the crap out of the other side, rather than see two teams play lousy and keep the score close with their awfulness.

I retract my ****ty game on the field statement, and go with what he said...I actually brought it up on another board a few minutes ago...Ward won by default, basically through 3 plays.

On one hand, there are people complaining that the game wasn't entertaining. There wasn't enough big plays, the defense wasn't crisp, neither offense was sharp enough -- whatever.

On the other hand, there are people saying that the officiating was so horrendous they'd not be surprised if the fix was in. The calls were all blatantly in favor of the Steelers, rendering the Seahawks completely and utterly helpless.

So, what do you want? Would you like the officials to lean in different directions on calls to keep it close so you can say you watched an exciting game? There's not much you can do about the game play being the way it is. If a player drops a wide open pass, sure that's not what you want to see on the biggest stage in the world of sports. But that's the game. Balls get dropped, overthrown, fumbled, and intercepted week in and week out.

Just because this is the Super Bowl doesn't necessarily mean you're going to witness the greatest game you've ever seen. And if you come in to every Super Bowl expecting that, you probably have unrealistically high expectations.

All NFL announcers, especially Madden, need a serious slug of STFU java.

^^The previous statement can be applied to pretty much every televised sport.
