Monday, June 23, 1952 GUEDON GATORS NEAR SISL TITLE With just three games to go in the South Island Second League season the Guedon Gators (11-6) now have a two-game edge over second place St. Dominic (9-7)... three other clubs, Meraux (8-9), Chitamaca (8-9) and Delacroix (8-9), are still technically in the hunt, but are three games back... Guedon socked it to the Meraux Tigers this weekend 7-1... St. Dominic lost to the Chitamaca Moccasins 3-2 and the Delacroix Cubs triumphed over the last place Bayou Bleu Blues 6-3. MY LIFE IN 1952
EC's Just Havin' Fun in '52, Too! Checking out the Billboard country and pop charts for the week of June 30, 1952... On the country side of the tracks, Hank Thompson is still holding on tightly to the number one spot with a great song, "The Wild Side of Life"... Hank has been there for the last seven weeks. In the pop world Leroy Anderson and his orchestra just finished a 5-week run in the top spot with "Blue Tango"... taking his place this week with a great love ballad is Al Martino with "Here in My Heart". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCgmhrJtMFI Hi, Hey, Hello and How Do You Do, all you buckaroos and little darlin's, too... this is the DC RC Sippers Association Radio Program, broadcasting live and dee-rect from deep in the heart of Dixie in Bah-ton Rooge, Loosiana on 101.5, WYNK... for the next four hours I'll be sippin' on ice cold RC Colas, eating' moon pies and playing the best country music that ever tickled your ever lovin' little ole innards... and we are going to kick it off with a great country classic from Red Foley from the golden year of 1952... here's Red dancing and singing to the "Salty Dog Rag". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReIRdbDBQ-8 Last edited by Eugene Church; 04-15-2020 at 04:21 PM. |

Monday, June 30, 1952 JOLIET CLINCHES LEAGUE TITLE IN NIRL 1ST With two more weeks to go, the Joliet Green Giants are celebrating winning their second league title in two years... the Green Giants won the NIRL Second Division last year, were promoted to the First Division this season and they won it all again... Joliet ramrodded last place Avalon 8-1 this weekend to clinch the pennant... New Yerby (10-8) moved up in the standings by defeating the fifth place Kofa Kings 4-2 in 10 innings... the Yankees are all alone in second place, three games back of Joliet (13-5)... the Jackson Jackalopes blanked the Dutton Coyotes 7-0 and tied them for third place in the standings... the Jacks and the Coyotes are 9-9 for the year... fifth place Kofa (7-11) is in danger of being relegated to the NIRL Second Division next year... sixth place Avalon (6-12) will definitely return to the NIRL Second next season. Saturday, June 28, 1952 SEASON OVER FOR GUEDON'S STASSI The league-leading Guedon Gators of the South Island Second League got some bad news today... one of their top players is finished for the season... second baseman Anthony Stassi went down with a strained hamstring this past weekend... Stassi is one of the leading batsman in the SISL with a .387 BA, 29 hits, 3 homers, 20 RBIs and 18 runs scored... his bat will be sorely missed by the Gators... Stassi tops the league in RBIs and hits. Last edited by Eugene Church; 04-17-2020 at 06:47 PM. |

Monday, June 30, 1952 SISL TIGHTENS, GATORS UP BY A GAME OVER SAINTS It's still a pennant race in the South Island Second League with two games remaining... first place Guedon was upended by the Bayou Bleu Blues Sunday 6-5 in 14 innings and saw their league lead cut to just one game over runner-up St. Dominic... the Saints were victorious over the Meraux Tigers 4-1... the Delacroix Cubs outlasted Chitamaca 10-9 and climbed up into the third spot in the standings, two games off the pace... the Cubs still have an outside chance of being promoted to the SIFL next year if they can wind up as high as second place. |
