Some starting pitching free agents:
Jason Schmidt - Yes. 1) Trade rumors for past several years 2) $9-$11mill alright Cory Lidle - Yes. 1) Older, but decent. 2) $3.5-$5mill alright Ted Lilly - Yes. 1) Early 30s, decent. 2) $5-$6mill pushing it, but alright Gil Meche - Maybe. 1) Probably sign 2) $4-$5 may be too much Byung-Hyun Kim - Interesting choice. 1) Fairly cheap. 2) Relief option Jamey Wright* - Maybe. 1) lots of innings 2) possibly cheap ($1.5-$2.5m?) Aaron Sele - Possibly. 1) hometown discount? ($1-$1.75m?) 2) Good control Shawn Chacon - Nah. 1) could be cheap 2) out of NY spotlight Mark Mulder - Nah. 1) not many innings 2) coming off of big contract, may settle for less than deserves? Roger Clemens - No. 1) Won't sign with us. 2) Too much money. 3) old. Andy Pettitte - No. 1) Won't sign with us. 2) Too much money. 3) old. Vicente Padilla - No. 1) Too much money for what we get Greg Maddux - No. 1) Won't sign with us. 2) Too much money. 3) old. Mike Mussina - No. 1) Won't sign with us. 2) Too much money. 3) old. Barry Zito - No. 1) May sign, but 2) Too much money (probably over $10m) Carlos Silva - No. 1) Would sign 2) $4.5+ too much 3) 5.94 ERA Jeff Weaver - No. 1) Probably $6-$8? is too much 2) Former-Tiger Woody Williams - No. 1) Too old although 2) $1.5m-$2 won't be bad risk Randy Wolf - No. 1) Not many innings last couple years Miguel Batista - No. 1) lots of innings, decent k's 2) too expensive (probably) Jamie Moyer - No. 1) Too old. Jason Johnson - No. Rodrigo Lopez - No. Chan Ho Park - No. Sidney Ponson - No. Brian Moehler - Nah DISCLAIMER: I have no idea what market value is calling for really. Those are just estimates based off of what they made this last year and age and ability. It was still fun guessing at estimates . Hell, some of those guys could still resign and we have no chance at them anyway.

From Elias Says... (on ESPN):
• Brad Radke made 377 regular-season starts in his career, all for the Twins. If Radke's career is indeed finished, as speculated, he's in some lofty company. To date, the only pitcher to end his major league playing career with a postseason appearance after starting at least 300 games, all for one franchise, was Sandy Koufax (314 major league starts, all for the Dodgers). Koufax's swan song was a Game 2 loss in the 1966 World Series against the Orioles. Radke participated in only one regular-season game after Aug. 25. Only one other pitcher had ever started a postseason game after appearing in no more than one of his team's final 35 games of the season. In 1945, Detroit's Virgil Trucks was released from the Navy 10 days before starting and winning Game 2 of the World Series. His only previous appearance that year was in the Tigers' regular-season finale. |

I think it's too early to make FA guesses.

I cannot really see us going after SP free agents. We will have Santana, Liriano, and Boof as our solid 1-2-3 and fill the rest with our young talent like Garza.

What free agent positions do you see us going for? If we don't release Torii, there really isn't much to go after.

Minnesota not only will exercise the $12 million option on center fielder Torii Hunter, but the Twins will get him signed to a multi-year extension, which will help alleviate the payroll demand sin 2007 by spreading the money out better. Hunter is the heart-and-soul of the team, and he has no desire to leave.

DH, LF perhaps. If we do little to nothing, I wont be shocked.

True. It's not like they have done much the past few years.
DH - Isn't Phil Nevin back? I know he isn't a good longterm or even short term solution, but he's due quite a lot if I'm not mistaken. LF - Jason Kubel can do it if he stays healthy. I don't see them getting a big named LFer because of Kubel. |

Hopefully Josh Rabe will be back next season. He is a good player to build around.

Its about the 4th source I have seen say that. Others from the MN papers included. I have yet to see a shred of evidence that this is a mislead report.
