July 1885
1st August 1885 The fans have written this season off and are just waiting for it to finish. The team put up another poor performance in July as they won 11 games and lost 16. They now sit rock bottom of the NL table 5 games behind 7th and 23 behind first. The owner decided that action was needed to try and resolve the bad play of the team. With this in mind he fired manager Charlie Pabor early in the month and then hired Dwight Patton. Patton is taking his first manager position but has spent 13 years as a coach in the league. This includes 2 MLB Championship's. The fans are hoping a spark can be gained from this change. Series results 1-2 at home to the Brooklyn Grays 0-2 on the road to the Pittsburgh Alleghenys 1-1 at home to the Chicago White Stockings 0-3 on the road to the New York Giants 1-1 at home to the Boston Beaneaters 4-0 at home to the Cincinnati Red Stockings 1-2 at home to the Philadelphia Quakers 1-3 on the road to the Chicago White Stockings 1-1 on the road to the New York Giants went 1-1 to start home series against the Pittsburgh Alleghenys The team lost Short Stop Tom Forster for the season at the end of the month. He picked up a hamstring strain and will be out for 5 weeks. Third Baseman Pete Browning continued his good year as he picked up another solid month. He had 42 hits from 105 at bats in 26 games. He scored 14 runs and 22 RBI's for an average of .400. Pitching Batting |

July 1885
1st August 1885 While the fans of the Nationals had to accept another year without the pennant, the team did give them some cheer during the month. The team picked up 16 wins and 13 losses during July. The team are now in 3rd place in the AL table, 10 games behind the leaders. Series results lost final game of home series against the Cleveland Blues 3-1 at home to the Detroit Wolverines 1-1 on the road to the Baltimore Orioles 0-2 on the road to the Louisville Colonels 2-1 at home to the Chicago White Sox 2-0 on the road to the Boston Americans 4-0 on the road to the Philadelphia Athletics 1-2 at home to the Cleveland Blues 1-3 at home to the Louisville Colonels 0-2 at home to the Chicago White Sox won first 2 games of home series against the Baltimore Orioles Left Fielder Joe Hornung's month was horrible in July. He firstly had an oblique strain early in the month that put him out for 2 weeks. He then was out for 3 days with dehydration before his season was ended by re-straining his oblique which meant another 4 weeks out. The pitching was the strong suit for the team during July. Both starters picked up 8 wins from their starts but the better of the 2 was Charlie Ferguson who did it in 14. He pitched 122.2 innings and gave up 110 hits and 26 earned runs for an ERA of 1.91. End of Season 1885
10th August 1885 The fans of the Orioles saw their season end with a whimper from their favourite team. The Orioles managed to pick up only 2 wins from the final 8 games of the season. This left them with a record of 44-68 for the season and 7th place in the AL. The fans will look at this as another wasted season for the team and will hope for a better performance from the team next season. Series Results went 1-1 in remaining games of road trip to the Washington Nationals 1-1 on the road to the Chicago White Sox 0-4 on the road to the Detroit Wolverines The one bright light during the season was the fact that star first baseman Dan Brouthers still managed to pick up the AL batting crown even though he played in only 79 games. His record was for 100 hits from 308 at bats. He scored 63 runs and 56RBI's for an average of .325 Pitching Batting |

End of Season 1885
10th August 1885 The fans of the Americans are looking to the owner for answers to a lot of questions after the teams disaster of a season. August saw the team's tough season go right to the end as they managed 3 wins and 5 losses during the month. This left the team with a record of 36 and 76 for the season and last place in the AL table. Their will hopefully be a major shake up over the off season or the fans will be looking at another very tough year next year. Series Results Lost the final 2 games of a road trip against the Philadelphia Athletics 2-0 on the road to the Cleveland Blues 1-3 on the road to the Washington Nationals After the poor season from the team there is nobody we wish to highlight as the star of the season. End of Season 1885
10th August 1885 The Beaneater fans will tell you they are happy that their team made an improvement this year compared to the last but secretly we know they were hoping for better. The team managed a 4-4 record in August to close the season out. This meant the team finished the season in joint 6th place in the NL table with a 49-63 record. We feel that if the team can improve in certain areas then there is hope for the progress to continue forward next season. Series Results 1-1 to finish home series against the Chicago White Stockings 1-1 on the road to the Philadelphia Quakers 2-2 at home to the St Louis Browns The team made another player change in August as they swapped 27 year old Left Fielder Abner Dalrymple with 31 year old third baseman Jack Gleason and 24 year old minor league left fielder Pat Scanlon of the Cleveland Blues. The best player this season for the Beaneaters turned out to be Catcher Amos Cross. Cross managed to gain 141 hits from 433 at bats in 99 games played. End of Season 1885
10th August 1885 The fans of the White Sox had an up and down season while following their team. The month of August proved no different for the team on their way to a 4-4 finish to the season. After a strong early start in April and May the team fell away to finish the year with a 57-55 record. This left them in 5th place in the AL table. Even so they will be hoping that next year brings a better return in the wins column. The month of August saw the team pick up 4 wins and 4 losses to finish in 6th place in the AL table. They had a final record of 49-63. Series Results went 0-2 to finish road trip to the Louisville Colonels 0-2 at home to the Washington Nationals 4-0 at home to the Baltimore Orioles It is always difficult to find a star from a team that seems to under perform all season.
