The team managed to pick up an excellent 17 wins from the 24 games they played in June. This good showing has seen them stretch their lead at the top of the AL table to 6 games. Series results 2-0 at home to the Baltimore Orioles 4-0 at home to the Chicago White Sox 2-1 at home to the Washington Nationals 3-1 on the road to the Detroit Wolverines 2-2 on the road to the Louisville Colonels 1-1 at home to the Philadelphia Athletics 2-2 on the road to the Baltimore Orioles won first game of road trip to the Washington Nationals The following players made the AL All Star Squad for this year. Pitcher Bobby Mathews, Catcher Charlie Bennett, First Baseman Roger Connor, Second Baseman Mike Moynahan and Third Baseman Jerry Denny Second Baseman Mike Moynahan missed most of the month after picking up a fractured foot. He was out for between 3 and 4 weeks but returned at the end of the month. This month the highlight shines on the Cleveland pitching once again. We are focussing on Jim McCormick this month after he put up some strong numbers in June. He won 8 of his 12 starts while pitching 103.2 innings. He gave up 70 hits and 18 earned runs for an ERA of 1.56. This was enough to see him voted the AL Pitcher of the Month. Pitching Batting |

After another month of poor performances by the Wolverines players, it has been tough to find anybody to highlight. We have opted to go for Catcher Jim Keenan who has managed to find some form and force his way back into the line up towards the middle of the month. Keenan claimed 23 hits from 62 at bats in 22 games played (including 14 starts). He scored 6 runs and 9 RBI's for an average of .371 Pitching Batting |

1st July 1885 The fans of the St Louis Browns are just looking for their team to manage a few wins. They didn't get much to cheer in June as the team won only 9 games while losing 16. The team are stuck in the basement of the NL table as they sit last, a full 19.5 games behind the leaders. Series results 1-1 at home to the Cincinnati Red Stockings 1-3 on the road to the Pittsburgh Alleghenys 1-1 at home to the Philadelphia Quakers 2-2 at home to the Chiacgo White Stockings 2-2 on the road to the Boston Beaneaters 0-3 at home to the New York Giants 1-3 on the road to the Cincinnati Red Stockings 1-1 on the road to the Philadelphia Quakers The following players made the AL All Star Squad for this year. While not the best player on the team, this month's player spotlight shines on Rookie First Baseman Alex McKinnon. McKinnon played all 25 games in June and swiped 25 hits in 104 at bats. He scored 13 runs and 7 RBI's for an average of .240. The AL Voters decided that this performance was good enough for him to win the June AL Rookie of the Month award. Pitching Batting |

1st August 1885 The fans of the Beaneaters had to suffer another poor month from their team. The team managed 11 wins during July while losing 18. They continue to sit in the bottom half of the table in joint 6th place with an 18 game deficit to the leaders and no chance at the pennant this year. The team owner decided that a change needed to be made before the season ended to get his man. He fired manager Kenny Baker late in the month and then went and signed David Jaimes. This has worried the fans on 2 counts. Firstly his record with the Boston Americans was not great over his 4 years in charge. Also they are not sure signing the ex manager of their cross town rivals is such a good idea. Series results lost final game of home series against the Cincinnati Red Stockings 2-2 at home to the Philadelphia Quakers 1-1 at home to the Chicago White Stockings 0-2 on the road to the Brooklyn Grays 2-1 on the road to the Pittsburgh Alleghenys 1-1 on the road to the St Louis Browns 0-2 at home to the New York Giants 0-2 on the road to the Cincinnati Red Stockings 2-2 on the road to the Brooklyn Grays 2-1 at home to the Pittsburgh Alleghenys 1-1 at the start of a home series against the Chicago White Stockings This months star with the bat was Left Fielder Charley Jones. Jones picked up 27 hits from 83 at bats in 23 games. He scored 14 runs and 8 RBI's for an average of .325. Pitching Batting |

1st August 1885 The fans of the Blues are dreaming of another MLB Championship series after their team all but confirmed their AL pennant in July. The team picked up 19 wins while losing 10 to move 8 games clear at the top of the AL table. With only 8 games to play they should take the AL pennant. Series results won final game of road trip to the Washington Nationals 3-0 at home to the Boston Americans 1-1 at home to the Chicago White Sox 1-1 on the road to the Detroit Wolverines 1-2 at home to the Philadelphia Athletics 1-1 at home to the Louisville Colonels 2-2 on the road to the Baltimore Orioles 2-1 on the road to the Washington Nationals 2-2 at home to the Detroit Wolverines 3-0 on the road to the Philadelphia Athletics started road trip to the Chicago White Sox 2-0. When the Blues do make it to the pennant they will have the pitching to thank for getting them their. July was no different as starter Jim McCormick again put up superb numbers. He won 10 of his 15 games while pitching 130.2 innings. He gave up 111 hits and 32 earned runs for an ERA of 2.20 Pitching Batting |

1st August 1885 The fans of the Wolverines finally had something to cheer this year after their team found some form in July. The team managed to gain 17 wins from the 28 games played during the month. This has seen the team rise their position in the AL table to 6th place. They are still 24 games behind the leaders and out of the pennant race. Series results lost final game of road trip against the Philadelphia Athletics 1-3 on the road to the Washington Nationals 1-1 on the road to the Louisville Colonels 1-1 at home to the Cleveland Blues 2-1 at home to the Boston Americans 1-1 at home to the Baltimore Orioles 3-1 on the road to the Chicago White Sox 2-0 at home to the Philadelphia Athletics 2-2 on the road to the Cleveland Blues 2-0 on the road to the Boston Americans 2-0 to start a road trip to the Louisville Colonels Short Stop Billy Geer saw his season ended mid July as he picked up a concussion. He will be out for 6 weeks. Their was a surprise for the Wolverines on the pitching side of the team as starter Ed Morris suddenly caught fire in July. He managed to win 11 of his 14 games, while pitching 119.2 innings. He gave up 111 hits and 29 earned runs for an ERA of 2.18. This earned him the the AL Pitcher of the Month award. 1st August 1885 The fans of the Louisville Colonels saw their team give every effot to close the gap on the leaders in the pennant chase. The issue was they just didn't have enough to get the gap closed. The team managed to claim 17 wins from the July games while losing 12. This has left them 8 games behind the leaders in second place in the AL. With only 8 games left it is unlikely they will be winning the pennant. Series results 0-4 on the road to the Philadelphia Athletics 1-1 at home to the Detroit Wolverines 2-0 at home to the Washington Nationals 1-2 at home to the Baltimore Orioles 1-1 on the road to the Cleveland Blues 4-0 on the road to the Boston Americans 3-0 on the road to the Chicago White Sox 3-1 on the road to the Washington Nationals 2-1 at home to the Baltimore Orioles 0-2 to start the series against the Detroit Wolverines John Fox returned from injury during the month This months star is pitcher Old Hoss Radbourn. Radbourn managed to win 9 games from his 14 games started. He pitched 115.1 innings and gave up 106 hits and 22 earned runs for an ERA of 1.72 The other strange thing was that the AL voters decided to give Centre Fielder George Gore the AL Batter of the Month award. We are not sure why as he only had an average of .255 from his 27 games. Pitching Batting |
