8/1/1994 -

Despite a losing month in which the Blue Jays went 12-15 we opened up a 5 game lead over the Red Sox, who really struggled in July going 7-20.

Mike Mussina, Phil Clark, and Barry Bonds were selected to the All-Star team. Cy Young winner Erik Hanson was snubbed despite his 12-3 record with 3.85 ERA.

Pretty rough on the Hanson snub. He's been an elite pitcher at LEAST since you arrived in Canada...

Still as engaging now as its ever been, keep up the great work, my friend!

Thanks my friend. Yes, I've really been surprised at just how good Hanson has been, and he definitely got snubbed. Hopefully he shows them how big a mistake it was in the second half!

Another losing month has tightened things up in both the AL East and the Wild Card race. The Blue Jays lead the Red Sox by 3 1/2 games, but the Red Sox trail the A's in the Wild Card race by 2 games.

The Blue Jays will be heading back to the playoffs after our second consecutive AL East title with a 92-70 record. The Blue Jays will be taking on the Oakland A's, who finished 90-72, in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

Phil Clark set a record with 238 hits in the regular season while hitting .362.

Erik Hanson got the start today and was roughed up by the A's, allowing 6 runs in 6 innings. Our bullpen was great though, combining to pitch three shutout innings. Jeff Robinson picked up the win, while Alan Embree got the hold, and Paul Quantrill got the save.

Barry Bonds and Chris Hoiles each drove in 2 runs today, with Bernard Gilkey, Kent Anderson, Jeff Bagwell, and Alex Gonzalez each picking up two hits in the 7-6 win.

Phil Clark, Barry Bonds, and Gary Gaetti each homered while Cal Eldred pitched 8 strong innings to pick up the win as the Blue Jays rolled 12-1 to take a 2-0 series lead.

Jose Guzman got the start today and pitched 8 strong innings allowing just 1 run. Unfortunately for Guzman he left the game with the Jays trailing 1-0.

The Blue Jays managed to tie the game at 1 when Bernard Gilkey walked with the bases loaded, and took a 2-1 lead in the 10th when Phil Clark singled in the go ahead run.

Unfortunately Paul Quantrill couldn't close out the game, allowing the A's to score 3 runs in the bottom of the 10th to walk off winners on a Gary Sheffield home run.

The Blue Jays lead 2-1 and need just one more win to advance to the ALCS.

Erik Hanson got the start today and pitched 7 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits while walking none and striking out 4.

He turned the game over to Alan Embree with a 3-0 lead and Embree pitched two hitless innings.

Chris Hoiles was 2-3 with a home run and 3 RBI tonight as the Blue Jays advance to the American League Championship Series.

Thanks. Hopefully, the Blue Jays are built for the extra round. I do like our ALCS matchup too, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

10/12/1994 - ALCS Game 1

The Blue Jays have waited a year to get revenge on the Angels, and would get our chance in the ALCS. The Angels finished with a better record (95-67), and had a better offense, but slightly worse pitching staff. With Mussina out I think our pitching is fairly even.

The funny thing about waiting for revenge though is when you can't deliver it's even more frustrating. Our pitching was lined up just how we wanted it with Erik Hanson getting the start in Game 1, but he wasn't too effective giving up 5 runs in 5 innings.

Hector Fajardo got the loss though after giving up 5 runs in 1 1/3 innings.

Eric Davis homered twice for the Angels, while Ken Griffey Jr, Juan Gonzalez, and Ken Caminiti also homered.

Jeff Bagwell was 5-5 with a home run, 2 RBI, and 3 runs scored tonight, while Phil Clark was 4-5 with a double, 2 RBI, and a run scored.

I'm really beginning to dislike the Angels after our 5-4 loss dropped us to 0-2 in the series. The only bright spot is that we will be heading home for Game 3.

Cal Eldred was chased from the game in the third inning after giving up 5 runs.

It looked like the Blue Jays were on our way to our first win with Juan Guzman on the mound, but a rough seventh inning saw the Angels score 3 runs to tie the game on a home run by Jose Canseco.

The game went into extra innings, but luckily the Blue Jays were able to win the game in the bottom of the tenth when Mel Hall singled home Barry Bonds for the 7-6 win. It was Hall's third RBI of the game.

Finally an easy game for the Blue Jays, as Erik Hanson got the start and pitched a complete game 3 hitter, allowing just 1 run while striking out 8 batters.

Mel Hall again was our offensive hero, hitting 2 home runs and driving in 5 runs. Jeff Bagwell also added a home run as the Blue Jays tied up the series.

Cal Eldred got the start tonight and pitched 7 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs, but our offense couldn't get the job done tonight and he was saddled with the loss.

Jeff Bagwell singled home our only runs of the game.

After coming back to tie the series at 2 the Blue Jays now face elimination in Game 6.

With our season on the line we sent out Pat McClellan to the mound, which didn't make me feel too enthusiastic about our chances. He pitched pretty well tonight, going 8 innings while allowing 4 runs. Alan Embree pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.

All of our runs came on home runs tonight, with Jeff Bagwell hitting a pair of homers, and Bernard Gilkey, Gary Gaetti, and Barry Bonds also homering.

We live to fight another day in a deciding Game 7 where the winner goes to the World Series and the loser goes home.

With the Angels leading the game 5-4 in the top of the seventh inning Chris Hoiles stepped to the plate with two runners on and connected on a three run homer to put the Blue Jays up 7-5, and we would never look back, adding 3 runs in the ninth as we defeated the Blue Jays 10-5 and win the American League Championship Series in 7 games.

Hector Fajardo picked up the win with 2 2/3 scoreless innings after relieving Erik Hanson, who game up 5 runs in 5 2/3 innings.

After a tiring seven game series we'll now head to the World Series to take on the 99-63 Astros.

This was not a pretty game for the Blue Jays, but we ended up winning the game 9-6. We were forced to use 7 pitchers in the game.

Phil Clark was 4-6 for the night, homering, doubling, and driving in 6 runs.

Jose Guzman got the start for the Blue Jays today, and actually pitched like a decent starting pitcher. He allowed just 4 hits and 1 run in 8 innings while striking out 10 Astros to pick up the win.

Bernard Gilkey hit a three run homer in the second, and also singled home a run in the ninth inning as the Blue Jays won 5-1 and take a 2-0 World Series lead as we head back to Toronto.
