And before darkhorse beats me to it:

Will Carroll on Harden:
Quote:
Rich Harden is headed back to the DL, now with elbow problems in his pitching arm. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting that Harden had an MRI yesterday that showed a sprained ligament, likely the UCL. There's no immediate information from the always cagey A's on the severity, but this is definitely a blow. If Harden needs Tommy John surgery, well, you know that song and dance.

I'm calling it right now.

Harden won't pitch again until 2008.

Well maybe not, but still. He can NOT be counted on as a member of the team until he makes a full seasons worth of starts.

Rich Harden = Kerry Wood, but, you know, better.

If Loaiza pitched well today, then Kendall will hit 3 HR the next game he plays, nobody will get hurt for the rest of the season, and Dan Johnson will end up hitting over .300.

Crosby day-to-day, Harden at least 2 months. Luckily it's not something that should require surgery.

Interesting...

It's frustrating," said Macha, who was impressed Harden could stay in the game after getting hurt. "It's mind boggling that he was still throwing 97 mph."

WHY WAS HE STILL PITCHING AFTER HE WAS HURT YOU IDIOT?

In the same article you quoted is this:

Quote:
Harden didn't mention the problem until the team arrived in Cleveland and felt some elbow pain while doing some movements in the trainer's room.
Macha didn't know. So maybe call Harden an idiot for not taking himself out right away.

Fine. They're BOTH idiots then.

I'm so sick and tired of players not reporting pain (see: Dan Meyer ALL LAST YEAR)

The thing is, when you pitch through the pain and are effective you're more likely to ignore it. When you're hurt and sucking, you should say something.

The A's are confident that Harden won't need surgery, but there's no way they no for sure. If all goes perfectly, perhaps Harden will return in six to eight weeks. Tommy John surgery would sideline him into 2007.
I am past the point where I'll ever expect big things from this guy

Mike Rouse is playing second today. I think it was Keisler who was sent down.

Kielty AND Perez go deep. Randy Johnson is done.

And Rouse had 1 steal at Sacramento this year. What's he doing running so much? He looks solid at the plate, too.

6 runs off Big Unit or no, today was probably the worst lineup that I have ever seen the A's use in the last, like, 10 years.

Under no circumstances should Payton be hitting third in the lineup. Ever.

I can understand the injuries, but I don't understand Kotsay not playing (he's hit Unit well) to just have a day off the same day as DJ (who is finally hitting).

I still hate Macha, they won in spite of him.

I think he's done this before against RJ - totally stack the lineup with righties. Luckily it worked today because yeah, it was pretty yucky.

Stacking the lineup is fine, but why sit the lefty who has had good success against RJ, especially when most of his success was back when RJ was dominating the NL?
