American League - Race for the Pennant
With the season winding down, the American League race is all about over. While still mathematically possible, the Washington Senators have little room for error if they hope to overtake the Boston Americans.

National League - Race for the Pennant
The National League pennant race is still an active, open competition. While the Brooklyn Superbas have an 85% chance of prevailing, the Phillies and Pirates are not going out quietly. The Reds and Beaneaters are on the outside looking in.

Game 132: St. Louis Browns vs. Boston Americans
Another game in which Boston jumps out to an early lead only to see it drift away. Here, the visiting St. Louis Browns (65-67) got the best of the hometown Boston Americans (78-54) by a 5 to 1 score; much to the dismay of the 7,958 fans in attendance.
Tom Hughes (14-10) -- who was a trade target during the season -- topped the Americans by allowing just 1 earned run on 7 hits while striking out 4 in his 100-pitch outing; Game Score 73. Jesse Tannehill (15-17) was roughed up for 5 earned runs on 13 hits and 2 walks; Game Score 40. Game 133: St. Louis Browns vs. Boston Americans
It is always difficult to win when your defense commits an error. It is especially so when the team commits 5 errors. The visiting St. Louis Browns (66-67) beat the hometown Boston Americans (78-55) by a 4 to 1 score. Despite a 3rd straight loss, the Americans maintain an 8-game lead in the American League race.
Picking up the win today was Hooks Wiltse (13-19), who allowed just 1 earned run on 6 hits, 1 walk, and 1 hit batsman; Game Score 74. Sam Leever (20-10) was tagged with the loss after permitting 4 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits in 8 innings of play; Game Score 63. Recently called up rookie Ralph Caldwell covered the final inning in scoreless fashion, allowing 1 hit while striking out 2. The Browns' offense was generated by Charlie Babb (2 for 5, Triple, Run, RBI), Jimmy Barrett (2 for 4, RBI), and Patsy Donovan (1 for 5, Run, 2 RBIs). John Farrell (2 for 3, Triple, Run), Homer Smoot (1 for 1, Double), and Danny Shay (1 for 3, RBI, Sacrifice Fly) played well in the loss. Player of the Game: Hooks Wiltse

Minor League Game Performance Spotlight: Hunter Hill
Clearwater Hooks 3rd-baseman Hunter Hill had a special game last week against the visiting Minetto Hooks. On the day, Hill hit for the cycle by batting 4 for 4 with 2 Runs and 5 RBIs. Despite being trade twice in the 1903 season, Hill has seemingly adjusted well to playing for the Boston Americans affiliate and is putting up nice stats in the 1904 season.

Game 134: St. Louis Browns vs. Boston Americans
Avoiding the sweep and snapping a multi-game losing streak is always a good thing. Riding the arm of Noodles Hahn, the Boston Americans (79-55) prevailed over the visiting St. Louis Browns (66-68) by an 8 to 2 score. With the victory, Boston enjoys a 8-game lead in the American League standings and reduced its Magic Number to 13 games.

The Browns' limited offense was powered by Andy Coakley (1 for 2), Charlie Babb (0 for 2, Run, Sacrifice Bunt, Hit by Pitch), and Bill Hassamaer (1 for 3, RBI). Game 135: Chicago White Sox vs. Boston Americans
While I try to limit my influence to game lineups and have not controlled an individual game since the start of this thread, I was so tempted to jump into the game and try and get Johnny Lush the win as I really would love to see him reach the 20-win mark in his rookie season. Instead, I stood pat and watched as the game went into extra innings and ultimately the loss. On the day, the Chicago White Sox (57-78) topped the Boston Americans (79-56) by a 3 to 2 score. The Americans enjoy a 8-game lead in the American League playoff race as the season soon comes to a close.
While Chicago starter Bill Carrick did not factor into the decision, he pitcher well as he allowed just 2 unearned runs on 9 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings of play; Game Score 55. Turning to ace Charles Bender (19-17) to keep the opposition in check before Bill Hoffer (SV 2) pitched a scoreless inning to record the save. Johnny Lush (18-15) was saddled with the loss after he permitted 3 runs (2 earned) on 10 hits and 2 walks; Game Score 67. The White Sox offense was generated by John Dobbs (1 for 3, Double, Sacrifice Bunt), Pop Foster (1 for 1, Run), and Charley O'Leary (1 for 2, Double). Boston was led by Johnny Lush (2 for 4, RBI) and Frank Chance (2 for 4, Run). Player of the Game: Johnny Lush (Season: #21 / Career: #21)

Game 136: Chicago White Sox vs. Boston Americans
With little to lose given the large lead that Boston enjoys in the American League race, it turned to the recently called up rookie Ralph Caldwell for a late-season start. Caldwell was selected as the 12th overall pick in the 1903 draft, and has been dominating Double-A / Triple-A this season. He did not disappoint in his start, as the Boston Americans (80-56) topped the Chicago White Sox (57-79) by a score of 6 to 0. Granted this was against a team with the worst record in MLB, and a team that committed 5 errors on the day but it was nonetheless an impressive first start.
Ralph Caldwell (1-0) earned the victory in his first career start, limiting the visitors to just 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out 7 in his 128-pitch shutout effort; Game Score 81. Bill Phillips (11-21) was tagged with the loss after he allowed 6 runs (5 earned) on 12 hits in 7 innings of play; Game Score 31. Sadie McMahon covered the final inning in scoreless fashion. The Boston bats were hot today, led by Johnny Lush (3 for 4, Double, 2 Runs, 2 RBIs, Stolen Base), Chick Stahl ( 2for 5, Double, 2 Runs, RBI), Frank Chance (2 for 5, Double, Run, Stolen Base), and Danny Shay (2 for 4, Run, RBI, 2 Stolen Bases). Sherry Magee (1 for 3, Triple, Walk) and Bill Phillips (2 for 2) played well in the loss. Player of the Game: Ralph Caldwell (Season: #1 / Career: #1) https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...aldwra01.shtml

National League Player of the Week
While the season has not been up to his usual standard, Cincinnati Reds All-Star Nap Lajoie put together an outstanding week at the plate. In picking up his 15th career National League Player of the Week award, Lajoie went 11 for 28 (.393 BA) with 2 Doubles, Homerun, 5 Runs, and 6 RBI for a slashline of .393/.393/.571 that resulted in 0.5 WAR.

American League Player of the Week
By comparison to his rookie season, this has been a challenging year for Cleveland pitcher Jake Weimer. Despite some early season struggles, Weimer has continued to improve and his efforts paid off as he was named the American League Player of the Week. In picking up his 2nd career PofW award, Weimer posted a 2-0 record with a 0.50 ERA in 18 innings of work.

Game 137: Chicago White Sox vs. Boston Americans
Staked to an early 2 to 0 lead, it appeared that Sam Leever would cruise to victory. Unfortunately for the 8,973 hometown fans in attendance, Leever was roughed up for 4 runs in the 6th inning due to sloppy defensive play that resulted in the loss. On the day, the Chicago White Sox (58-79) topped the Boston Americans (80-57) by a 4 to 3 score.
Chicago ace Charles "Chief" Bender (20-17) picked up the win, as he allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits, 1 walk, and 1 hit batsman while striking out 5; Game Score 65. Sam Leever (20-11) was tagged with the loss on an outing that saw him permit 4 unearned runs on 6 hits, 2 walks, 1 wild pitch, and 1 hit batsman while striking out 7; Game Score 72. The White Sox offense was powered by Sherry Magee (1 for 3, Run, Hit by Pitch), John Dobbs (1 for 3, Run), and Simon Nicholls (2 for 4). Solly Hofman (2 for 4, Triple, 2 Runs, Stolen Base), Chick Stahl (2 for 4, Run, RBI, Stolen Base), and Fred Clarke (2 for 4, RBI) played well in the loss. Player of the Game: Sam Leever (Season: #18 / Career: #54)

Game 138: Boston Americans vs. Washington Senators
A great final regular season start for Noodles Hahn, as he shutdown the Senators as the Boston Americans (81-57) thumped the Washington (71-67) by a 10 to 0 score.
Noodles Hahn (23-11) had a fine game today, as he picked up the victory by limiting the opposition to 9 hits and 1 walk in the 120-pitch shutout outing; Game Score 70. Jack Chesbro (19-14) was denied making the 20-win club, as he was roughed up for 10 runs (7 earned) on 13 hits and 1 walk in 6 2/3 innings of play; Game Score 16. Lew Moren pitched the final 2 1/3 innings in which he allowed 1 hit and 1 walk in a scoreless effort. The Americans offense was powered by Frank Chance (3 for 5, 2 Runs, RBI, 2 Stolen Bases), Dave Brain (3 for 5, Double, Run, Stolen Base), Bill Lange (1 for 4, Homerun, 2 Runs, 2 RBIs, Walk), and Fred Clarke (2 for 5, Double, Run, RBI). The Senators limited production came from Hans Lobert (1 for 1, triple), Willie Keeler (2 for 4), and Jack Chesbro (1 for 1, Double). Player of the Game: Noodles Hahn (Season: #23 / Career: #84)
