After last seasons good form the fans have been bought back down to earth with a bump this year as the Americans have had a bad start to the year. The team have managed to win only 7 of their 23 games played during April. They now sit 7th in the AL table, 8 games behind the leaders.

After the poor start the team has had to the season, we here at the Herald could not find any players that stepped up with a good performance.

The fans of the Boston Beaneaters have enjoyed the start to this season more than they enjoyed last year. The team managed to pick up 10 wins from the 22 games they played in April. This has left them in joint 5th place in the NL table, 7.5 games behind the leaders.

This month had seen the established stars produce the goods the team requires. The best of these was Third Baseman Deacon White. White picked up 27 hits from 71 at bats in 17 games. He scored 12 runs and 10 RBI's for an average of .380

The team got of to a steady start to their defence of the NL pennant but the fans were hoping for more. The team managed to win 11 games and lose 12. This has left them in 4th place in the NL table, 7 games behind the leaders.

The team suffered a major blow towards the end of the month as they lost star pitcher Jim Whitney for 4 months with a torn labrum.

The team also saw The Only Nolan leave via waivers to the Boston Beaneaters.

The team saw their star performer as First Baseman Dave Orr. Orr picked up 31 hits in 90 at bats during his 22 games. He scored 12 runs and 14 RBI's for an average of .344.

The fans of the White Sox have enjoyed a wonderful start to the new season. The team have put together some excellent performances on their way to a 15-8 record for the month of April. They lead the AL table by 1 game from the Cleveland Blues.

He gave up 81 hits and 14 earned runs for an ERA of 1.18. This earned him the Rookie of the Month award for the AL.

The team suffered a blow late in the month as they lost star batter First Baseman Harry Stovey to a lattissimus dorsi strain. He will miss between 3 and 4 weeks.

The star with the bat all month was Short Stop Jack Glasscock. Glasscock managed to claim 38 hits from his 91 at bats in 22 games. He scored 20 runs and 12 RBI's for an average of .418. This earned him the NL Batter of the month award.

Their was some bad news for starting pitcher Ed Cushman as he saw his season ended early due to injury. He ruptured his ulnar collateral ligament and will miss 10 months.

The team claimed Left Fielder Silver Flint from the Detroit Wolverines via waivers.

The wins were a team performance for the Red Stockings as there were few great performances. The best we could find was First Baseman John Morrill who managed 23 hits from 59 at bats in 21 games (14 as a started). He scored 17 runs and 14 RBI's for an average of .390

He claimed 9 wins from the 12 games he started with 106 innings pitched. He gave up 84 hits and 14 earned runs for an ERA of 1.19. This earned him the AL Pitcher of the Month award.

The fans of the Wolverines are again suffering another poor start to a season. The team managed to win only 6 games from the 22 they have played in April. This has left them back in their usual position of last in the AL table. They are 8.5 games behind the leaders.

Their was a blow to the Athletics teams hopes early in the month when they lost starting pitcher Tim Keefe to injury. He will miss 3-4 weeks of the season with elbow tendinitis.

With both sides of the team showing some solid form their were a few good performers to select this months star from. We have decided to go for Pitcher Pud Galvin this month. Galvin gave a solid performance on the way to 7 wins from 10 games starts while pitching 90 innings. He gave up 74 hits and 16 Earned runs for an ERA of 1.60

The fans of the Alleghenys are in a happy state of shock after the way their team has started the new season. The team picked up 18 wins from their 23 games played. This has seen them rise to the top of the NL table to lead by 4 games.

Even though the team had a good month on the field of play there were some set backs. The team lost Catcher Jack Clements mid month with a strained quadricep. He will be out for between 6 and 7 weeks. The team also lost Short Stop Paul Radford to a knee sprain late in the month. He will be out for 5 weeks.

After an excellent month for the team, picking a star was always going to be tricky from the long list of candidates. We have decided to go with Starting Pitcher John Clarkson. Clarkson managed to pick up 10 wins from his 12 starts while pitching 110 innings. He gave up 96 hits and 28 earned runs for an ERA of 2.29. This though didn't deter the NL Voters who decided to award him the NL pitcher of the month award

There was also a good month for Al Myers who picked up the NL Rookie of the Month award with a .319 average.

Even though the Browns are playing badly as a team, star Centre Fielder Pete Browning continues to show good form. He claimed 30 hits from 87 at bats in 22 games. He scored 14 runs and 13 RBI's for an average of .345

Kemmler 3 game suspension for mistreating an umpire and after game comments.

The team lost Short Stop Davy Force for 3 weeks during the month after he strained an oblique.

Dave Rowe also returned from injury late in the month.

The team traded 34 year old Second Baseman Gene Kimball to the Washington Nationals in exchange for 23 year old minor league Catcher U Loughlin and 24 year old minor league Second Baseman John Reilly.

After a tough month for the team there is no player that produced an outstanding performance.

The Beaneaters season took a slight hit during May as their fans saw a below average performance. The team picked up 13 wins during the month while losing 16. This work has seen the team move into 5th place in the NL table.

The team lost Charley Jones early in the month for 4 weeks with a fractured foot. He returned at the end of the month.

The team also traded 26 year old Third Baseman Buttercup Dickerson and 20 year old minor league Third Baseman Lou Hardie to the New York Giants in exchange for 25 year old Pitcher John Schappert.

The team saw an excellent perfomance from the plate by Catcher Amos Cross. Cross managed to claim 37 hits from 110 at bats in his 25 games played. He scored 22 runs and 10 RBI's for an average of .336

The fans saw a slight pick up in the teams form during May which has given them some hope for the rest of the year. The team managed to claim 15 wins from their 27 games played during the month. The team is now positioned in 4th place in the table, 3.5 games behind the leaders.

The teams star during May was Rookie Starting Pitcher Norm Baker. Baker picked up 10 wins from the 14 games he started while he pitched 118.1 innings. He gave up 109 hits and 28 earned runs for an ERA of 2.13. These figures earned him the NL Rookie of the Month award for May.
