the Cubs and Yankees actually make plenty of money...the Metrostars didnt.

heritage yes, parentage no...there arent many Europeans immigrating to America, Im 4th generation personally and I dont know more than a handful of people who are 2nd generation at best. In LA, Dallas, Houston and probably NY they can draw on the hispanics which are likely 2nd or 3rd generation or perhaps even 1st generation, but they wouldnt of been around in 70s to compare the NASL to the MLS. They do appeal to the hispanics when possible, Chivas USA being designed specifically for hispanic (obviously especially Mexican) fans.

Its been over 20 years since the NASL folded, Id be surprised if more than 25% of the MLS' fan base could compare the NASL to the MLS. They've made many strides to differentiate themselves from the old league.

its a shame you lost your title...

usually the hottest spot in the US during parts of the winter is somewhere in south florida; including Hawaii half the time.

they must be coming to Canada. I've met folks that were from England, Denmark, Germany, Portugal, Serbia and Croatia just to name a few that I can recall off the top of my head and they are either recent arrivals or first gen Canadians. Wild that.

Then again I live in what would be considered rural Canada so perhaps that is why.

For the level of soccer that the MLS is, they pay their players extremly well.

Beckham has stated several times he would like to play for either DC United or LA.

Beckham tore his achilles and tweaked his knee vs Portugal, he's sidelined for 6 weeks.

I think it was $30 when I got it, but I'm not too sure since my mom picked it up for me. But I am having a blast playing it. I figured it'll be 4 more years til I can play another one like it, so I told her to grab it for me.

He only wants to play for the advertisment, his MLS wages would be chump change to what he could earn from the likes of Pepsi and such if he played in the MLS hopefully he does go as it would mean he's a few more miles away from England.

Wow it's a wonder anyone wants to play in the MLS, Jimmy Bullard left Wigan Athletic last season for two reasons 1) money 2) to be closer to his family, he signed for Fulham at around £30,000 ($55,000) per week and he's just an above average premiership player.

Two bits of news today.

First, German midfielder Torsten Frings is suspended from semi-final, after Italian journalists scour TV footage and find punch.
Quote:
BERLIN, July 3 (Reuters) - Germany's Torsten Frings was suspended by FIFA on Monday for the World Cup semi-final against Italy in Dortmund on Tuesday, German media reported.

A FIFA investigation began after television executives from Italy said they had found evidence that Frings threw a punch at Argentina forward Julio Ricardo Cruz in the fracas that followed Germany's quarter-final shootout win on Friday.
Controversy even before the game starts then.

And secondly, European champions Greece suspended from world game after perceived government interference.
Quote:
BERLIN (Reuters) - FIFA suspended Greece from all footballing activities on Monday, citing continued government interference in the running of the Greek FA (the Hellenic Football Federation).

The ruling means that the national side and club teams are banned from playing any international friendly or competitive matches or any international club matches until the country conforms to FIFA and UEFA regulations.

World soccer's governing body warned the Greek government at its Congress in Morocco last September that it would be suspended from membership unless the autonomy of the HFF was respected.

In a statement on Monday FIFA said there was no possibility of this happening by the imposed deadline of July 15 and the disciplinary committee had suspended Greece as a result.

"In spite of repeated warnings from both FIFA and UEFA, the commitment expressed by Greek government representatives to amend the law on sport to irrevocably recognise that football matters can only be decided by the HFF and its subordinated football structures has not been respected," FIFA said.

Greek FA chief Vassilis Gagatsis, who has repeatedly clashed with Sports Minister George Orfanos over the non-independence matter, refused to comment on the suspension.

Italians have to be the biggest ****ing pansies in this whole tournament. Nothing like beating a team that isn't at full strength.

With the wages they pay it's obvious they don't get bucket loads of money and need to raise it some other way just imo when a team is called Red Bull New York then most of the world will never take MLS serious, same goes for Japanese football league nobody takes that serious and a good part of it is becuase of team names.
