I suppose a sweep wasn't unexpected as the Hancocks were such heavy favourites, but none of the first three games was a blow out [unlike Game 4], so I think Easy Town gave it a good go. Worthy champions, though, they've been class from Day 1.

On a different matter, good to see Aaron Demps take the pitcher of the year award in the BMU. That augurs well for the future if he can make the step up to the Party Boys' squad.

Indeed, I'll echo that, not unexpected, but also entertaining nonetheless. I'm glad the Hancocks took it if the Swatters couldn't. The neighborhood needs a badge of pride.

Too bad Goodnehigbor Oberland wasn't the finals. That series definitely felt much more like a championship lol

Once the Hancocks put away Oberland, I figured they would and could steamroll Easy Town. The Assaultrons never seemed like they belonged in the playoffs, but then pulled off the North Charles.

For Aaron Demps, he appears to be a BMU hero but will never get much of a chance to pitch at the CBO level unless his pitching skills jump. Still, his BMU numbers have been outstanding: 20-1 in two seasons with the Night People.

Now if Nate can convince John Hancock to stop stabbing people when they offend him! I was rooting against Oberland not to repeat, but I was pretty sure they would. I was happy with the chance for the Hancocks to get there. Now, if they can avoid a dynasty, too, I like that three Sole Survivor Series have featured six different teams.

Last season, it could and would have been! However, the move away from four separate leagues to united associations means that geography rules the day. Hopefully the NCA catches up soon enough and both leagues trade championships from time-to-time.

September 2298 - News and Notes - September 29

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

29 September 2298 – Institute Distributes 53 mGecks to CBO

The Institute announced today that it was able to duplicate and produce 53 miniature Garden of Eden Creation Kits, also known as G.E.C.K. Their version, dubbed the mGeck, standing for Miniature Garden of Eden Creation Kits has an output that can create an elaborate vegetative growth state over a three-acre area. Based on that area, it can cover the entirety of a baseball field in real, genuine grass.

Nate Howard announced today that all 24 teams would receive two for each of their CBO and BMU teams, with the remaining five remaining in keeping for emergency food shortages or other situations that may warrant usage.

The Institute has stated that it will continue to research and produce mGecks in case of other factors the baseball league may face, like poor weather conditions and radstorms that may destroy the new-grown fields. There has also been talk of needing extra security to stop fans and vandals from ruining fields.

Unlike the G.E.C.K., the mGeck is not as dangerous to the person who operates the package, though the Institute warns that there could be extenuating circumstances that could affect the person who opens the case and presses the little red button. By the Institute’s estimates, each mGeck has a 0.199% chance to kill anyone within the radius.

29 September 2298 - BMU: Angelou CA Selection for 2298 Most Valuable Player Award

The manager of the Greentop Nursery Night People said he thinks Jonathan Angelou is only going to get better as he gets older.

He may only be 19, but it will be hard to top the left fielder's 2298 campaign, as he has been named the winner of the Commonwealth Association Most Valuable Player Award.

His winning campaign featured a .381 batting average and a .533 on-base percentage this year. In 45 games he piled up 48 hits, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 18 home runs, 47 RBIs and 43 runs scored.

He received 16 first place votes out of a possible 24. Chris Eakle of the Union Hope Lifegivers finished second in voting with 4 first place votes, while Conrad Fallon of the Breakheart Banks Behemoths finished third with 1 first place vote.

29 September 2298 - BMU: Top Player Named by Massachusetts Association

The future looks extremely bright for Jim Uglyhair. At the age of 21, many players are still trying to find their way in Boston Minor Union.

Uglyhair has not only found his way, he's already established himself as one of the game's brightest stars, today being named the winner of the Massachusetts Association Most Valuable Player Award.

"I didn't expect to hit .283 this year, that's for sure," the center fielder said.

The Natick Banks Big Leaguers star also put up a .394 on-base percentage this year, with 65 hits, 14 doubles, 1 triple, 21 home runs, 66 RBIs and 53 runs scored.

He received 11 first place votes out of a possible 24. Corey Macon of the Mass Pike Robobrains finished second in voting with 6 first place votes, while Kurt Kilgore of the Somerville Place Sentry Bots finished third with 5 first place votes.

I don't mind two in a row, especially early on, but three, that's where I'd draw the line. But yeah, it's nice to have 6 different teams across 3 SSS.

Also not trying to argue, but I was under the impression the GECK in F3 was dangerous because it was damaged, not that the actual devices were lethal to the operators, though your interpretation is valid too. I mean, Fallout's universe, even pre-war, isn't exactly known for safety standards

Another positive for the Boys, with Angelou getting the MVP in the CA. Hope he may translate to the big club better than Demps might!

Nice work on the championship banners - and another excellent season in the books!
If it were possible, I would "thank" you!

It is inevitable that there will be long-term strong teams. Based on the quality of players on both Goodneighbor and Oberland right now, it appears that they will probably battle for SCA supremacy for quite some time. A few teams, like Jamaica Plain and Diamond City, especially, are loaded at the BMU level, so they may be future players.

I wanted to implement the GECK not to feel guilty about the teams' stadium pictures being full of grass. I was hoping to play more with OOTP 21's ballpark editor and actually added this story from the beginning of planning out the dynasty.

For the actual GECK in game, even the lore does not seem to have a full grasp of what it is supposed to be. I guess that's why we don't truly see it in action (at least, I don't remember). It is more like a MacGuffin in the game, it seems.

In this Fallout 4 AU, I want everything to be potentially dangerous: a drink at a bar, a swim, opening a can of Cram, operating a GECK. There will be a roll of the dice or a random number generated for every event, so someone might die with these mGecks, though as far as I have heard from the Institute crew, none of the test models ever exploded a human into a Harold or another event, so the 0.199% chance of death will likely keep all operators safe.

Hi, dward1. Welcome to the irradiated circus!

For the Fallout 4 world and mapped locations of the world, please refer to Page 1 for the CBO (https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=313588) and Page 19 for the BMU (https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...&postcount=379). This offseason, I will also be adding the Nuka World League, though they will be independent from the CBO. I also have 48 feature stories on the various settlements and locations around the CBO and its BMU minor league.

I don't think I mentioned the seeds, just an assumption that sports fans are used to it, though that may be an American sports fans thing. The seeds are determined by place in the standings. Each league--Brotherhood, Institute, Minutemen, and Railroad--places two teams in the playoffs. Based on regular season records, the #1 seed has the best record. In 2296 and 2297, the playoffs were not regional dependent, so the top four seeds were the league winners and the bottom four seeds were the wildcard teams from each league, all ordered based on record, 1-8. Starting in 2298, I divide the leagues into two associations: the North Charles Association and the South Charles Association. In that case, there were only four seeds per association with the two league winners getting the top two seeds, thus home-field advantage, and the two wildcard teams getting the last two seeds. I hope this helps for understanding the playoff structure (also the preseason tournament based on the previous season's records).

That was a great job by Greentop Nursery to sweep the top two awards. They actually blew their league title since they led the league most of the way. Then Galleria won the play-in tie breaker and went on to win the Boston Minor Series. That could have been the Night People's to take!

Thank you for the compliments. I tell you, I am struggling hard with Gimp. I am not pleased with the banner--and I will have nightmares when I finally attempt uniforms again--being converted from Photoshop. I had to fight Gimp to figure out how to add some shading (spoiler: after following tutorial videos, I still cannot get the results I'm looking for). Gimp is not user-friendly, for sure. Photoshop must have some patents on ease-of-use features because it makes no sense that I have to create entirely new layers just to add a dark border around text. And why can I not resize text to the image? It makes me scale, which means I give wild guesses and then work through trial and error and take up a lot more time than I want to when working on just a simple banner! Anyway, I have what I have, and it was the best I could do in an edit of a previous banner, at least with limiting my time to 30 minutes to edit it. Gimp rant over!!

September 2298 - News and Notes - September 30

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

30 September 2298 - CBO News: The Offseason Begins

With the Commonwealth Baseball Organization playoffs settled and a new champion crowned, it might appear as though baseball is ready to slink into hibernation until next year. Instead, the offseason begins today, bringing a different flurry of activity. Trades and roster moves will continue over the next several months as teams look for that magic combination that will find them playing for next year's championship.

In baseball, nothing stands still and general managers can't afford to take this time off, lest they find themselves sitting in the unemployment line next year at this time. So while players are finally resting away some of their aches and pains, General Managers had better be ready to act!

Voting for league award winners is currently taking place with the first award for the CBO's best defensive players being announced on October 8 all the way to the last award for the all-CBO team being announced on October 15.

Also, tomorrow, Saturday, October 1, the Goodneighbor settlement is holding an all-day celebratory festival and team parade. All interested in attending are invited. Festivities begin at 10 AM. Bring lots of caps!

30 September 2298 - End of Season BNN Top Prospect List Published

Now that the season has finished, it's time to look forward to the future, and what better way than to look at the brightest future stars of the league, courtesy of BNN. This year 21-year-old C Ayag Mour of the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets is the #1 prospect overall.

Here is the top 10:
1) C Ayag Mour, 21, Jamaica Plain Red Rockets
2) RHP Digger Vadim, 20, Jamaica Plain Red Rockets
3) 2B Harry Byrd, 19, Vault 81 Dwellers
4) CF Kurt Kilgore, 20, Egret Ninjas
5) 2B Chris Connexx, 18, Roxbury Knuckle Punchers
6) LHP Whokill Poole, 18, Roxbury Knuckle Punchers
7) LHP Ugio Church, 20, Salem Witch Hats
8) 1B Oren Gep, 20, Diamond City Swatters
9) RHP Emperry Alizm, 19, Vault 81 Dwellers
10) RHP Mike Rubric, 21, Abernathy Adamantium

30 September 2298 - The Slog Manager O'Shea Gets the Boot

It may be a surprise move of the offseason. However, few players in the The Slog Ghouls organization seemed upset to learn about Mack O'Shea's dismissal as manager, a move announced today in a team press release.

While no player would speak on the record, one disgruntled reliever complained about O'Shea's confrontational style, saying, "He's the kind of guy who thinks the best leader is the guy who yells the most."

Another added, "Mack wanted to win, but he just didn't have the respect of the clubhouse."

O'Shea was one of the few true managers in the league in 2296 when The Slog won the CBO championship. That prompted Nate Howard to budget for teams to have actual coaching staffs. In 2297, O'Shea led the Ghouls to the Brotherhood League title, though they could not repeat their success in the playoffs. In 2298, The Slog dropped to third in the league, prompting team owner Wiseman and GM Plop Wyman to make a change.

"It was a tough decision," the press release stated, "but we are ready to move in a different direction."

O'Shea's replacement has not yet been named, though an official announcement is expected soon. There are rumors that Wyman already had a replacement in mind before announcing the firing of O'Shea.

30 September 2298 - Szymanowski Bounced, No Longer Atom GM

Team officials and representatives for Rich Szymanowski huddled around the conference room table this morning before announcing that the embattled general manager would be let go. Noting that it was a mutual decision, the two sides parted on civil terms.

Szymanowski will be replaced by an interim general manager, but the team declined to specify who that would be. It could be team owner Deke himself.

30 September 2298 - Skipper Stoudt Banished from Dugout by Cats

In an expected move, the Atom Cats fired manager Ben Stoudt today.

The team had not been performing up to expectations, and it was thought to be just a matter of time before the move was made.

"Ain't got no time for regrets and preserved pies," team owner Deke explained to the assembled press. "We've decided to go in a different direction with the top two positions. Those two cats are copper not gold. We need gold-plated perfection."

The organization has been mum on possible candidates for the position, but expect to name a replacement soon.

30 September 2298 - Roxbury Manager Gets the Pink Slip; O'Sullivan Let Go

There was not a dry eye in the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers clubhouse today as word spread of Squatty O'Sullivan's dismissal as the team's manager. Along with The Slog's Mack O'Shea, O'Sullivan possibly spells the end of two of the original managers in the league.

Despite the team's recent woes, O'Sullivan was widely respected.

"He was a real player's manager, a real leader and mentor to so many of the guys on this club," said one player.

Another player had the same sentiment. "Man, this ain't right. I know baseball is a business, but Squatty deserved better. It's not his fault we stink worse than a mirelurk's armpit."

That's good logic. TBH when you mentioned a while back the attendance numbers were a bit wonky I thought about mentioning messing with the ballpark editor (though it'd take time to do *all* the teams) as a way to actually cap attendance, if the parks actually had a max. Though, if every game is a sellout, I'm not sure if that's what you'd be going for either or if that counts as "solving" the problem. Never got around to making that comment though.

I had set the attendance baseline to 3000/300 for the leagues. I noticed somehow the BMU changed from 300 to 30,000 at some point. Therefore, attendance for BMU games was ridiculous! And checking why that is, Diamond City has a stadium with a large capacity, therefore too many in attendance, and some of my BMU stadiums do need to be edited because their stadium capacity is 20,000+ as opposed to the 200-500 they should be. Thanks for pointing that out! With the mGecks, stadiums will be right finally.

Some Offseason Organization

This is my offseason to-do list. I'll add to it as necessary.

In no particular order:

1. Make a backup and copy of the league.

2. Check the draft order before the draft. Check that players have proper attributes. Post draft results.

3. Vote on league awards. Be sure only I vote, no AI because of Rookie problem (everyone is considered a rookie this year due to the league fusion thus no rookie of the month postings during the season).

4. Roll dice for October-March for random events.

5. Consider some more graphics. Fight with Gimp. (Hey, I learned why I cannot properly edit text in Gimp from PSD files. Not happy! Consider using Photopea instead.)

6. Post Chapter 2 of the storyline, "A Hubflower for Magnolia." Link to Chapter 1. Also, post more Random Terminal events.

7. January 1 - Add Nuka World League.
  • A - Recheck all uniforms, logos, stadiums
  • B - Determine league specifics for games/playoffs
  • C - Make a custom players list
  • D - Plan features on Nuka World areas for a new segment. Create a newspaper for the Bradberton area.
  • E - Recheck any previous facts about Bradberton/Nuka World I previously posted for consistency.

8. January 1 - Move Mass Pike to Vault 95. Change logo/uniform as needed

9. Check my disorganization of notes, including my 23-sheet Excel file and my 226-page Word document. Yikes! Make sure I did not miss anything with my plans. Recheck facts as needed/possible.

10. Make goal to finish 2299 of dynasty no later than May. One extra month should account for how busy I will be.
