We upped his offer to more than he was demanding, and will see how that goes. 06/11/2027: Ambrose signed and will be sent down to A-Ball. SS-A doens't start for 2 weeks and I'd rather him play. 06/11/2027: Made his minor league debut, going 1-4 with a 2B and 2 RBI's. I'd like to sign at least one of our 2 catchers. 06/09/2027: Was not satisfied and said he will not talk further and will re-enter draft. Round 5, Pick 20, 108th Overall: SP Edward Hill (Valley View HS) Demands: $3,000,000 (Extremely Hard), Offer: $150,000, Current Ofer: $3,00,000 06/07/2027: He isn't happy either, no suprise. he is probably the best player we drafted so I am thinking I will meet his demand. I will put it all out there for Hill and Osorio, if I miss out on anyone else, oh well. Round 6, Pick 20, 128th Overall: 3B Howard Wiggins (Bolingbrook HS) - Broken Off Other/Roster News: The Newark Millers have release Steve Ingram, who they selected from us during the Rule-5 draft and he has been returned to our system. In 22 games for the Millers Ingram did better than I though he would hitting .300-2-12. Not really sure what to do with him... GM Notes: Nothing drives me more crazy than struggling to get hits, or runs, and then one game the team just goes bezerk. If we could of just spread those 19 hits and 11 runs around we could of swept the Tourists series. Those one game outburst, that surround lulls bother me. I know its impossible to do the same thing every game, but there would be nice if the team could be somewhat consistent about it, right? Maybe its just me. I have 3 or 4 guys down in AAA that are knocking on the door and ready to come up and play with the Cav's. All 3 guys have been on the "watch" list, and should make the team at some point this season. However, with the team winning games there is no reason to stir things up. Now if we start slumping... LF Blake Quirke: .324-8-31 CF Juan Hernandez: .378-24-74 3B Angel Hernandez: .345-16-50 1B Oliver Ramos: .360-17-54 If you told me at the start of the season that Sergio Gavlez would be the "lightest" hitting outfield I would of said you are crazy, he is a perennial Silver Slugger candidate... yet after 61 games he is: Bob Short: 181 AB's, .309-4-33 Leonard Lawson: 205 AB's, .312-8-37 Sergio Galvez: 236 AB's, .250-6-36 Trevor Parker: 183 AB's, .301-12-41 Sergio Rodriguez: 214 AB's, .327-2-25 Not a bad group of outfielders right there. I have started playing Short in CF taking some AB's from Galvez in hopes to even out the AB's a little more. Plus Short is crushing the ball right now, not over the fence, but everywhere else. One thing I would of never predicted is that catcher Henry Rojas would lead the team in average this far into the season. He has been hitting the ball really well lately and has his average up to .331. I took a risk with him last season acquiring a kid who played only like 10 games in AAA and threw him into the starting lineup... Well it paid off more than I had hoped. The only thing I may end up doing before the trade deadline is move Bryant Frank. He should have some decent trade value. He is hitting .250-1-17 and would be an everyday player for most other teams. I feel like he hasn't blended well here in Norfolk and just isn't playing as good as he could. A change of venue may do him well, and would make my defense better. Either with Robinson Lopez or Angel Hernandez, both are better on the D side. Hitting is fairly mute at this point based on what Frank has done. Something to think about, maybe I can find a prospect for him, that would be a nice money saver... not that we need it, for once. I am getting to like this starting staff. Its not like days of old when the Cav's were throwing out ace after ace, but these guys are pretty solid. I was a little nervous about them when the season started, but they have grown on me. ![]() Standings Leaders DE Southern: Milton Brewers: 38-25 (+4.5) DE Northern: Wilmington Iron Pigs: 37-24 (+3.0) MV Eastern: Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs: 38-24 (+3.5) MV Western: Norfolk Cavaliers: 42-20 (+9) Players of the Week: Delaware: King Brock (Lewes Braves) 11-24, 2 HR's, 8 RBI's MarVa: Ricardo Hidalgo (Washington Senators) 10-23, 3 HR's, 6 RBI's Power Rankings: 1) Norfolk Cavaliers (122.0) 2) Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs (117.3) 3) Milton Brewers (111.6) 4) Newark Millers (103.0) 5) Wilmington Iron Pigs (102.2) News: New Castle Colonials: OF Peter Peters has suffered a small set-back that will push his return back 5 days. I will put it all out there for Hill and Osorio, if I miss out on anyone else, oh well. 06/15/2027: He said yes, and will be setn down to S-A to get his career started. We are happy to have him aboard. Round 6, Pick 20, 128th Overall: 3B Howard Wiggins (Bolingbrook HS) - Broken Off Other/Roster News: Last week, we received Steve Ingram from the Millers and I have no room for him so I tried to trade him. I had a deal all put together, as the Express GM had to think about it... Ingram for a prospect... but the time the GM returned, the trade couldn't be made, because Ingram hurt himself. Out for a week. I will try again next week. GM Notes: I wish our pitchers could get some run support on a consistent basis. Angel Rivera and Carlos Coronado have just had a tough year and get seem to get the W's. They both have pitched well however. Claudio Flores saw his average drop under .200 this week, after a hot start to the week he finished at .192-1-9. He is having an awful season and now its time I make a move. Frank to the starting short-stop? Or do I bring up a kid from AAA, or do I just hand over the reigns to Mario Vazquez who is surprisingly hitting over .300... One thing I have thought about about doing is bring up 3B Angel Hernandez from AAA. The problem is Frank or Lopez will have to play SS and I would have to send down Vazquez. This is something I will be pondering over the next week, but I do feel something needs to be done, my left-side of the infield combination (Flores, Frank and Lopez) haven't done enough to warrant playing time. I decided to go one more week and see how Flores does. I will have Frank getting more AB's at SS this week however, so it might be 2 weeks. If Flores or Frank don't step it up, Vazquez will be sent down to AAA and Angel Hernandez will be called up. We will see... however that does leave me a slight weakness at SS... So many decisions. Not much else to say about these guys, we are just chugging along. Bats look to be warming up, the pitching seems to be leveling out... right now we hold a 8 game lead over the Express and 11 over the Senators. I don't see the Express staying up there all year long, but at the Senators get healthy I may start to worry. My biggest fear is our pitchers were playing at such a high-level at the beginning of the seasons, and now most of the bats are, what happens when we both cool off or come back to center? I signed 4-of-6 of my draft picks, which really surprised me, and in the end I didn't spend that much money. I am happy with the out-come, mainly because I thought I was going to be lucky to sign 2... I will keep an eye on these guys through the season and see how they do. Right now the hitters are in all in A-ball, but as Short-Season opens up next week they may see some time down there. Just to get more PT. ![]() Standings Leaders DE Southern: Milton Brewers: 42-27 (+6.5) DE Northern: Wilmington Iron Pigs: 40-27 (+4.0) MV Eastern: Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs: 42-26 (+1.5) MV Western: Norfolk Cavaliers: 44-23 (+8) Players of the Week: Delaware: Matt Fisher (Wilmington Iron Pigs) 12-17, 3 HR's, 7 RBI's MarVa: Domingo Valencia (Ocean City Tourists) 11-20, 2 HR's, 11 RBI's, 8 R's Power Rankings: 1) Ocean City Tourists (120.0) 2) Norfolk Cavaliers (117.2) 3) Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs (116.2) 4) Milton Brewers (112.6) 5) Wilmington Iron Pigs (102.5) News: Newark Millers: Lost 2B Jerry Jones for 2 more weeks, as he suffered a set-back as soon as he started rehab for his sore shoulder. Coronado was 5-7 3.92 in 14 starts this season... After a little thought, our #2 prospect (#24 in DBL), and top starting prospect Lazzaro Tadiotto will be called up. I am a little nervous about this, but I have a couple of other options if this one doens't work out. Stuff: 13/13, Movement: 11/11, Control: 13/16 Draft Pick Update: Round 1, Pick 20, 20th Overall: SS Mauro Osorio (Salem HS) (A): 14G, .288-0-1 (15-52) Round 2, Pick 20, 47th Overall: C Ambrose Sutherland (U of Michagan) (A): 12G, .300-3-11 (12-40) Round 3, Pick 21, 68th Overall: RF Pete Davis (U of South Carolina) (A): 5G, .333-0-2 (5-15) / Elbow inflammation out 7 days Round 5, Pick 20, 108th Overall: SP Edward Hill (Valley View HS) (S-A): 1 G, 0-1 4.26 (6.1 IP) Other/Roster News: Steve Ingram got healthy and I shopped him around, but no one was willing to give me what I wanted and I wasn't about to give up something worthwhile... so it looks like the trade is off for now. GM Notes: Miguel Angel Gonzalez has found a home in the closers role. So far this season he has saved 22 games and posted a 0.91 ERA and a 0.44 WHIP> in 29.2 innings he has struck out 41 hitters and walked only 2. He has been lights out, and maybe my closer of the future... We lost a starter, which is something I was hoping wasn't going to happen, and if it did, I was hoping for a short-term injury. With CC out for 4 months, it looks like his season is over and I will need to find a fulltime replacement. He was having a decent year, but I am hoping the guys I have on the roster and in AAA will be able to replace him. I decided to give a shot to Tadiotto, but I do have Lopez on the ready. I may end up going with a 6-man rotation until the all-star break... right now we have 3 rookie starting pitchers in the rotation. Wish me luck... With Flores down to .194, I am torn what to do. Its almost like the Yankees with Stephen Drew, why has he been on the roster all year? Drew at least hits for a little power... do I make the move? Do I send Flores down to AAA in hopes he gets his swing back or is that a slap in his face? Maybe Vazquez is the best bet, but he is hitting over .300 in limited time... I would just hate to send Flores down and have it back-fire where he gets upset and I lose out on a guy who 'could' be good... on a bright note Robinson Lopez seems to be hitting the ball better he is up to .248. I think he will end up getting more time at 3B while Frank and Flores swap at SS... And hopefully one of them says "its my job" and that would be that. Here is hoping our starting staff can pick the injured CC, and that our offense will help support Tadiotto. I am ready to see how things go over the next few weeks and if I need to make any moves during the All-Star break... Ernie Kennedy is starting to find his groove. He is a fun to watch and only seems to get better. Hopefully he will help pick up this rotation with Pearson and CC out... I have to admit losing CC makes me a little nervous. Mainly because he had experience, him and Brown are the only 2 starters with experience, now I have to hope these "kids" can keep up the work. We have 3 games at home against the Senators this coming week, I think they are big games. Anytime we play our rival we want to win. They are still suffering through some injuries to the 3B Shumei Ishikawa, SS Jose Diaz and 1B Jiong Wu, but their OF is back in tack with Hidalgo and Atkins. Seems like a different team every time we play them. ![]() Standings Leaders DE Southern: Milton Brewers: 47-29 (+5.5) DE Northern: Wilmington Iron Pigs: 41-33 (+2.0) MV Eastern: Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs: 47-28 (+1.5) MV Western: Norfolk Cavaliers: 49-24 (+8.5) Players of the Week: Delaware: Peter Peters (New Castle Colonials) 11-19, 4 HR's, 10 RBI's MarVa: Julio Rodriguez (Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs) 12-28, 3 HR's, 10 RBI's Power Rankings: 1) Norfolk Cavaliers (126.8) 2) Milton Brewers (118.3) 3) Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs (115.8) 4) Ocean City Tourists (113.9) 5) Dover Generals (106.4) News: Washington Senators: Another one goes down, this time it is rookie sensation Shumei Ishikawa, who strained a rib-cage muscle and will miss 4 weeks. GM Notes: I decided to go with a 6-man rotation so Armando Lopez will get a few more starts till we hit the All-Star break and then I will reevaluate my roster and make any adjustments. I think that gives Laz two starts... I am leaning towards going with a 6-man rotation the rest of the way, mainly because I have 3 rookies in the rotation, and one kid who only started 12 games before the season began. This way they will get rest, not get over worked and hopefully stay effective... at least at this time that is my thought. Ernie Kennedy is on fire, as he pitched another shut-out this week. Part of our sweep of the Washington Senators. That feels good. I always enjoy beating the Sen's and when we can beat them without allowing them to cross the plate it gives me a little more confidence. I think Ernie is starting to find his groove after the first 2 months of the season. Hopefully he can keep it up. I will be watching his innings as I don't want him to wear himself out too quickly, he is only 21. Laz had a solid first start, and I was quite impressed. Hopefully, that is a good sign and our rotation will still continue to stay strong. He went 8 full innings, throwing 76 strikes out of 110 pitches. He did give up 9 hits, but of the 3 runs only 1 was earned, thanks to an error by Bryant Frank... I have been hesitant to call Laz up over the past 2 seasons, mainly because of his control, which still hasn't peaked (currently its 11/16). Leonard Lawson tore it up this week.. raising his average 20+ points to .330 and driving in 14 with the help of 5 long-balls. He carried the offense most of the week and it looks like that is how this season, offensively, is going to go, another leader every week... Bob Short is saying "put me in coach" with the way he has played of late. He has raised his average up to .322 and has driven in 42 runs. I am going to have some trouble finding PT for these 4 outfielders, especially if they are all hitting the ball so well. Galvez: .276-11-51 Rodriguez: .305-2-30 Parker: .297-16-53 Lawson: .330-15-59 Short: .322-4-42 Only if one of those guys could play 3B... Only Rodriguez and Parker play 3B. Maybe its time to see what Parker can do down there in limited game time. That might be a little crazy however... Is that a risky mid-season move or what. We still have over half a season to go and we have already lost 2 of our starting 5 pitchers. Right now I don't have any plans to make a deal, but that could change. The trade deadline is 2 months away and over that time I will be able to give these kids a chance to prove themselves. So far I have been really pleased. ![]() Standings Leaders DE Southern: Milton Brewers: 51-31 (+5.5) DE Northern: Wilmington Iron Pigs: 44-37 (+1.0) MV Eastern: Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs: 51-30 (+3.5) MV Western: Norfolk Cavaliers: 55-25 (+10.0) Players of the Week: Delaware: Alfredo Rodriguez (Searford Blue Jays) 8-23, 5 HR's, 8 RBI's, 6 R's MarVa: Domingo Valencia (Ocean City Tourists) 16-24, 4 HR's, 10 RBI's, 9 R's Power Rankings: 1) Norfolk Cavaliers (134.8) 2) Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs (119.3) 3) Milton Brewers (115.0) 4) Dover Generals (107.0) 5) Ellicott City Express (107.0) News: Milton Brewers: CL Dennis Marshall is out for 7 months with a torn UCL. June 2027 - In Review
June 2027 Award Winners
Delaware Conference Monthly Awards DEConfs's Top Hitter Named: Peter Peters received the Delaware Conference Batter of the Month trophy earlier today for his efforts at the plate this last month. "He might be getting older," New Castle's manager told reporters, "But he's been around long enough to know what it takes to put a stretch such as this together... and he doesn't keep that to himself. He's always talking to the younger guys in the clubhouse helping 'em any way they'll let him. Peter's value to our team goes farther than the numbers he puts up on the field." To win the honor Peters put up a .432 batting average, 7 home runs, 18 RBIs and scored 13 times in June. This year Peters has hit at a .326 pace and produced 44 RBIs, 14 home runs and scored 39 runs. June's Top Starter Named in DEConf: In June, Lanny Reese tore through the Delaware Conference like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 23 years old. The young Christiana starter posted a 5-0 mark and an ERA of 2.03 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 44.1 innings he collected 27 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .212 average. Reese has posted a 11-1 record for the year with a 2.50 ERA. Teams are hitting .218 against him and he has rung up 74 strikeouts in 115.1 innings. DEConf Selects Rookie Star of the Month: Ryan Sutton's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young New Castle center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month. In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award. During the month he hit .283 with 8 doubles, 1 triple and 4 home runs. Sutton also scored 12 times and drove in 26 runs. This year Sutton is hitting .328 with 8 home runs and 39 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .373 clip and scored 20 runs. MarVa Conference Monthly Awards Valéncia Takes MVDIV's Best Bat Trophy: Domingo Valéncia of the Tourists hit .400 in June with 7 home runs, 27 RBIs and 25 runs scored to capture a majority of votes for the MarVa Conference Batter of the Month trophy. The 30-year-old is in the last year of his contract and will undoubtedly use these numbers to try and bring in a huge pay raise. This year Valéncia has hit 13 home runs and posted a .311 batting average. June's Premier Pitcher Announced By MVDIV: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Mike Newman still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 28-year-old starter for Ocean City was named MarVa Conference Pitcher of the Month earlier today. He collected 6 wins and no losses with 38 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 2.17 ERA in 45.2 innings of work. This season Newman has registered 9 wins and 5 losses in 16 starts with a 4.95 ERA. MarVa Conference Names Rookie of Month: A veritable toddler to the MarVa Conference, José García just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June. Over the past month the 22-year-old third baseman for Ocean City hit .280 with 30 hits, 1 home run and 10 RBI. He also logged 3 walks and compiled a .301 on-base percentage. For the season, García is hitting at a .325 clip with 7 home runs, 35 RBIs and has scored 51 runs. He has 83 hits, 11 walks and a .357 on-base percentage. They have a young offense that the experts just don't give enough credit to and pitching staff lead by two of the games top starters (Fareles, Rocha). If the Generals want to make a run they will need to start getting better pitching. Currenty they are 9th in the league in runs against with their top pitcher sittingon the DL for 2 more weeks. Northern Division: Current Leader: Wilmington Iron Pigs (44-37 .543 / +1.0) Projected Winner: Wilmington Iron Pigs (93-69 .574 / +1) The Iron Pigs are suprisingly struggling despite having the leages second best offense and 2nd best starting staff. They will need to tighten up their bullpen (10th) if they want to hold off the charging Millers and Colonials. The Millers will need to hit the ball better and the Colonials need to keep Peters healthy. This division looked like it was going to be a run away for the Iron Pigs has turned into the tighest race in the DBL. Eastern Division: Current Leader: Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs (51-30 .630 / +3.5) Projected Winner: Ocean City Tourists (88-74 .543 / +2) The Eastern Division should be interesting over the final half of the season, with three teams battling it out. The Surf Dawgs have the top offense, but an average pitching staff, the Tourists are right behind the Dawgs in offense and pitching, and the Blue Crabs are right in the middle on both. This division is really going to come down to who can get the most out of their starters. Western Division: Current Leader: Norfolk Cavaliers (55-25 .688 / +10.0) Projected Winner: Norfolk Cavaliers (116-46 .716 / +21) Injures have kept the Washington Senators from making a run and they continue to fall further back. The surprising Ellicott City team is ten games out, as they have a mix of youth and vets that are putting together career seasons. The Cavaliers are putting together a solid seasons as their bats have warmed after after a slow first month. They are surprising and with the latest injury to a starter they now have 3 rookies in the starting rotation. Will that affect their season? Will they continue to win? Can the rookies manage full years? There will be a lot of questions to be answered over the following 81 games that is for sure...

Ruiz is 18 and could have a very bright future. Edgardo Perdnard won the AAA Player of the Week award hitting 12-25 with 3 HR's and 12 RBI's. The 26 year old has struggled defensively, but has put up some nice numbers offensively in AAA (.322-15-56). GM Notes: We talked to Trevor Parker and he was willing to give 3B a try and he made his first start their this week. It didn't go very well. Over 8 innings, only 2 balls were hit at him. He made 1 play, and blew 1 play... the experiment will continue for a little while longer. I think it is time for me to start thinking about my rotation and what I am going to do with it. I don't like the idea of going with a 6-man rotation the rest of the way and I feel that it really has had an effect on the way Paul Brown has pitched lately. I am thinking of going with a 5-man rotation with the 5-slot being rotated in and out, between Lopez and Rivera. Rivera has started to struggle of late and I think he could use some time off... I just changed my mind as I was writing this. I am going with a 6-man rotation, set to "strict, on occasion highest rested"... I may end up changing that down the road but after the all-star break (7/15) till the end of August we only have 3 days off... If you told me at the All-Star break my leading HR hitters would be Leonard Lawson and Trevor Parker I would of thought you were crazy. No way they were going to out do Galvez and Short... Leonard Lawson is making himself a household name with the way he has played lately and is now hitting .323-18-64, with Parker right behind him at .292-18-60. They are my leaders in HR's and RBI's. When I acquired Lawson (for Janchez in 2023) I knew he was going to be star, and I think 2027 is the season he is finally breaking out. I have a lot of talent on this roster and for that I am quite lucky. One of my biggest issues is getting everyone enough playing time and I think that isn't a bad issue. I would much rather deal with a guy who is playing most of the time, than a guy who isn't' that good sitting on the bench... This team is very deep and can handle injuries, as seen with the Coronado loss. 86 games in and we are heading into the All-Star break with a 10.5 game lead. I need these guys to keep on getting better and as the offense gets better it will be inevitable that our pitching will be better. Over the past few seasons I have always had a reliever who didn't pitch that much, this season they are all getting enough innings because of the 6-man rotation. I will have to keep an eye out to make sure no one is getting abused. ![]() Standings Leaders DE Southern: Milton Brewers: 55-33 (+6.5) DE Northern: Wilmington Iron Pigs: 48-39 (+1.0) MV Eastern: Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs: 52-36 (+1.0) MV Western: Norfolk Cavaliers: 60-26 (+10.5) Players of the Week: Delaware: Jose Menendez (Newark Millers) 11-22, 3 HR's, 5 RBI's, 8 R's MarVa: Lucio Pena (Annapolis Admirals) 11-26, 4 HR's, 13 RBI's Power Rankings: 1) Norfolk Cavaliers (137.6) 2) Milton Brewers (113.5) 3) Ellicott City Express (110.1) 4) Chesapeake Blue Crabs (107.1) 5) Wilmington Iron Pigs (106.3) News: Washington Senators: SP Carlos Mateo has pitched in the DBL since 2013, but this week the 39 year old announced his retirement. After 2 injury prone seasons, Mateo's body hasn't bounced back like it did when he was younger. His latest setback was the last straw. He finishes his career 164-134 3.37, he was elected an All-Star 5 times, and won 3 Championships, 1 with the Lewes Braves and 2 with the Norfolk Cavaliers. Richmond Cardinals: Will be without LF Ron Walker, who broke a bone in his elbow and is expected to miss 6 months. He was hitting .233-0-18 on the season. Milton Brewers: Came to terms on an extension with 29-yr old Ramon Benabe. The deal announced was for 4 years and $42,000,000. Benabe is hitting .253-3-17 on the season. Lewes Braves: SP Jorge Jiminez is going to miss 6 months with shoulder inflammation. The 29 year old was 11-4 2.59 and one of the lone bright spots for the Braves this year. Annapolis Admirals: C Will Riley joined the elite ranks with HR #300. Riley is the 10th player in DBL history to accomplish the feat. Milton Brewers: RF Jose Menendez hit for the cycle. For the game Jose was 4-5, a triple in the 4th, single in the 5th, HR in the 6th and a double in the 8th. Dover Generals: SP Claudio Perez's return has been pushed back another week. the 30-year-old complained of some shoulder stiffness during his latest workout. On the season Perez is 3-8 5.24. Lewes Braves: Lost 1B Errol Williams for at least 4 weeks with a oblique strain. Williams is hitting .219-7-28 on the season. Ellicott City Express: Will be without their closer Luis Martinez for 6-7 months. Martinez ruptured a disc. Martinez was part of the reason the Express were having such a good unexpected season. In 35 games he is 5-1 1.91 with 19 saves. New Castle Colonials: Acquired MR Danny Warren (AAA, #39) from the Ellicott City Express for SP Brandon Jennings (AAA). Warren was added to the Colonials roster after the deal. Milton Brewers: Acquired MR Kakalia Kalani (1-2 2.54, 1 SV) from the New Castle Colonials for prospect LF Ernesto Condarco (SA, #40). Ellicott City Express: Said they are all-in with their deal for 1B Enzo Allard (.303/.366/.500, 15 HR) and $3M cash with the Seaford Blue Jays for 3B Ramon Valdes (.273/.311/.502, 14 HR) and MR ROn Emery (0-0 7.43). Washington Senators: Looking for a help for a team decimated by injuries the Senators acquired RF Jose Lopez (.295/.324/.481, 10 HR) from the Chesapeake Blue Crabs for RF Chae-heui Yi (.273/.321/.431, 12 HR), SS Maurice Gordon (A) and a 3rd-round-pick. Oddly enough Yi is the only outfielder to not make a DL appearance this season, and Lopez, well he is fragile... 2027 All-Star Game Preview
Welcome to the 15th Annual DelMarVa All-Star Game. Hard to believe the DBL has been around for 15 seasons already, but here we are... over the years we have had many fun and exciting All-Star games, and in the end the Delaware Conference has walked away with most of the games, winning all but 3. Will this season be any different? Who really knows, there are a lot of new All-Stars and a lot of old ones and they are ready to determine what Conference is the best.
All-Star Game History: 2013: MarVa 5, Delaware 6 2014: Delaware 6, MarVa 5 2015: MarVa 7, Delaware 1 2016: Delaware 8, MarVa 3 2017: Delaware 5, MarVa 3 2018: MarVa 1, Delaware 3 2019: Delaware 6, MarVa 5 2020: MarVa 6, Delaware 8 2021: MarVa 1, Delaware 5 2022: Delaware 1, MarVa 2 2023: MarVa 3, Delaware 1 2024: Delaware 7, MarVa 2 2025: MarVa 0, Delaware 2 2026: Delaware 8, MarVa 7 Look for another close fought game, and i am going to guess this years game will be lower scoring than last season. 2027 seems to be a great year so far for the pitchers when it comes to ERA and wins. For the Delaware Conference OF Peter Peters of the New Castle Colonials will be making his 13 All-Star game appearance the most of any player appearing in the 2027 ASG. He will be joined by 14 first timers on the Delaware Roster. For the MarVa Conference SS Claude Bond will be making his 8th appearance leading MarVa Conference and he will be joined with 13 first timers. With 27 First time All-Stars this is bound to be an exciting game.

2027 Cavaliers in the All-Star Game
I will begin this write-up with a quick complaint about a Star who should be on the team. I am not one to complain about players getting left off the All-Star roster, because there are so many players that are "good" enough that its inevitable that someone gets left off. In fact in the past I have actually been disappointed with how many Cavaliers there have been selected... This year The Cavaliers have just 5 representatives, which is probably enough for one team, however there is one guy that really deserved to be there... His name is Miguel Angel Gonzalez, and his stats for 2027 have been amazing... Currently he is tied for the league lead in Saves with 25 and has 3-2 record and in 36 games he has pitched in 36.2 innings, struck out 53 and walked only 3. He has a 0.44 WHIP and 0.74 ERA. Now compare those numbers to some of the guys who are on the team, such as Carsten van der Esch, or George Meyer and tell me he didn't robbed... ok now I will step off my soap box and move on. I am looking at it as a good sign he didn't make the team, so now he can rest and be ready for the 2nd half...
Here is a look at the 5 Cav's that did make the 2027 All-Star team, and all of them are having great years and are a huge part of the reason why the Cav's are 10 games in front in the Western Division: SP Paul Brown (NFK) - 9-3, 2.72 ERA SP Ernie Kennedy (NFK) - 9-5, 2.71 ERA C Henry Rojas (NFK) - .345/.391/.566, 10 HR, 50 R LF Leonard Lawson (NFK) - .325/.388/.585, 18 HR, 64 RBI RF Trevor Parker (NFK) - .290/.337/.573, 17 HR, 57 RBI Paul Brown will be making his 5th All-Star appearance, and the other Cav's will be making their first. I find this pretty amazing, considering how deep this team is and how many other players have All-Star games to their credit, players like Galvez, Short, Gallegos, Frank and A. Lopez. I am excited for this team and the new guys and I can only hope they will help the MarVa Conference win for the first time since 2023 and for the 4th time in history (this is the 15th All-Star game). The Cav's have had a long list of All-Stars on their rosters over the years, and here is a look at how they have fared. 2027 All-Star Game
2027 All-Star Game
The Delaware Conference got the scoring started in the second getting 2 off of starter Shawn Brock who had a control battle during the second inning. In the third the DC would add to their lead thanks to a solo-shot by Antonio Castandea. In the 7th, the DC helod a 4-1 lead, when the MarVa Conf would tie things up, thanks to a 2-run shot by Henry Rojas. After 7 the game would be tied at 4. The tie would last till the 9th, the bottom of the 9th to be exact. Carsten van der Esch was brought on to pitch for the MarVa Conf. Jorge Trujillo would start things off with a single, he would get throw out at second as the next hitter Pedro Galven couldn't get the sac-bunt down... but with 1-out Antonio Castaneda would come through again, this time with a double down the left field line. Lucio Pena made a strong through, but it wasn't enough as Galvan crossed the plate and the Delaware Conference would walk away with another All-Star Game victory!! Delaware Conference 5, MarVa Conference 4 W: Arturo Ramirez (WLM) L: Carsten van der Esch (VB) HR: MC: Henry Rojas (NFK), DC: Antonio Castaneda (WLM) MVP: Delaware Conference: Antonio Castaneda, Iron Pigs, 2-5, 2B, HR, R, 2 RBI, including the walk-off GWRBI. It was odd to see the home white of a MarVa Conference player on the Delaware Conference team... Castaneda and Edward Barnes were the only players on the DC to collect 2 hits, Wayne Weaver was the only player on the MC to do it, going 2-3... Cliff Jones Jones, the oldest All-Star at 44-years old, went 0-2 with 2 walks... Ricardo Gonzalez pitched 2 innings, allowing 1 hit, 2 walks and striking out 3... Paul Brown, Julio Rocha and Naofumi Hashimoto all struck out 2 in 1 inning... Pedro Galven stole a base and was caught stealing, Trevor Parker stole a base for the MC... The MarVa Conference committed 2 errors, one by Claude Bond, one by Trevor Parker... The MarVa Conference has 2 extra base hits (2B by Lawson, HR by Rojas), the Delaware Conference had 3 (2B by Barnes, HR and 2B by Castaneda... Mike Johnson, the youngest player on the DC conference, added 2 RBI's in his first ASG... 39,006 was the reported attendance, the Dover Grounds, where the game was held seats 39,300. DBL All Star Game a Hit with Fans: Today Nielsen announced the ratings for DBL's annual All Star game and the long and short of it was - it was a hit. "This year we saw enormous growth in the number of homes viewing the game, said DELMARVA Baseball League's Commissioner Leo Evans. He continue, "And to tell you the truth, we're not surprised as there really is no better sport in the world. The number of players we have in the league right now that are exceptional, not only for this period of baseball history but for the entire length of the sport's history is beyond compare."

I would definitely agree about Miguel Angel Gonzalez being robbed. It's nice to see him have so much success after bouncing between starter and closer last year.

Hopefully he can keep up this crazy season he is having, with the starting rotation being so young it'll be nice to know if we get late in games we can count on the closer...

I am still shocked how the Express are doing it. Its a bunch of kids and veteran cast offs... And we had an opporutnity to pull WAY away, but nope... Our starters got roughed up in 3 games, then our closer blew a game. They Express were just relentless. I am not "nervous" yet, but I really don't know what to expect with this rotation. Do I need to get a veteran in here? Should I just let it go and see what happens? I mean either way we still have to hit the ball... Nervous? No. Preplexed? Yes. Rojas continues to rake. He is turning out ot be one of the top hitters on the team, something I really didn't expect just yet. He currently leads the league in average hitting .355. I have to do something with my short-stop Claudio Flores is hitting .172-2-16 and thats really not acceptable. I have Carlos Franco, who is hitting over .300 and Mario Vazquez who is hitting .280, who can field just as good if not better than Flores. But I am not sure how they will do as every day players. I may end up going with Vazquez for the time being. Do I send Flores to AAA? I think he has an option left, and bring up another reliever? Something to think about. I have some troubles with this team that is for sure, to start the season the pitching was on point, the hitting wasn't, then there was a shift, the hitting picked it up and the pitching went flat, and now it seems like they are both going flat... The offense not quite as flat as the pitching, but the pitching is now the problem. Its been a crazy season. This four game sweep to the team chasing us hurt, and hopefully we can turn it around this week against two teams we shouldn't have any issues with. Right now, I am stumped on what I should I do. I have the players to deal if I think I need to do that, but I am not ready to do that just yet. I think this team is good, and we can still pull this division off... I don't have much time if I want to pull off a deal, so if I am going to do it I need to now. ![]() Standings Leaders DE Southern: Milton Brewers: 57-34 (+6.5) DE Northern: Wilmington Iron Pigs: 51-40 (+2.0) MV Eastern: Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs: 54-38 (+1.0) MV Western: Norfolk Cavaliers: 60-30 (+6.5) Players of the Week: Delaware: Ole van den Burgt (Milton Brewers) 11-14, 2 HR's, 5 RBI's MarVa: Henry Rojas (Norfolk Cavaliers) 7-13, 2 HR's, 4 RBI's Power Rankings: 1) Ellicott City Express (121.5) 2) Norfolk Cavaliers (116.0) 3) Milton Brewers (115.7) 4) Wilmington Iron Pigs (106.9) 5) Chesapeake Blue Crabs (106.7) News: Chesapeake Blue Crabs: RF Alberto Molinero has his hitting streak stopped at 21 games. He isn't happy at all, but I really feel like I had no choice. If he wants to play he needs to hit the ball. 2) Bryant Frank was inserted into the lineup a startring short-stop. I am hoping more swings = more production. 3) Mario Vazquez is now playing SS very 5 days, and is the defenisve sub. 4) Edgardo Perdnard (AAA: .320-15-64) was called up, making an improbably journey a reality. And believe it or not, he isn't happy he isn't starting. He will be playing 2B every 5 days, the second PH bat off the bench and will get some swings as the DH. If he was a better defender he'd play more. 5) The pitchign rotation is back to 6-man strict. After one week I wasn't happy with highest rested, so we are back to this. Thats all the changes, but there might be some more down the road. I want to win this season and there are only 14 days till the trade deadline. GM Notes: Well the career of Edgardo Perdnard isn't off to such a great start. In his first game he went 0-6 with a walk, and left 10 runners stranded... and in his second game he went 0-4. Not the way I figured his career would start... I have the ability to make a deal for a starting pitcher, and I am leaning on doing it. A 30-yr-old veteran who would be a free-agent at the end of the season. It would be a 2 month rental, and all I would have to give up is Bryant Frank and Edgardo Perdnard. I am debating pulling it off before the next week starts. Making this deal means Flores will be back up at SS and my pitching staff will have another veteran presence. Right now I have a slight weakness in my bullpen, as they are once again slumping. Rivera or Lopez could move back to the bullpen or even Lazzaro. Do I need a new shortstop? This was good week after last weeks dibacle. I will take 5-2. I do think this week showed some of our weaknessess. We like to leave runners on base. I wish I had one of those guys that just knew how to knock people in. Robert Perez, Francisco Reyes or King Brock in their prime... Maybe its time I tinker with the line and get Sergio Galvez down into the heart of the order, away from that #2 slot. I have faith he could knock runners in, maybe switching him and Gallegos... here I go again tinkering. I want to make this team better, but I really don't know if there is anything I can do without hurting the future. The deal mentioned above might be a good option, can't go wrong with another ace in the rotation. Plus he would fill in for Pearson till her returns. Who knows maybe I decide to sign him to a long term deal (now that would be crazy based on my pitching depth)... but then again is focusing on a starter the right place to focus? Is it my bullpen that is the problem? Or maybe the offense. I mean our pitching is rated #1, do I really want to mess with that?? One thing I could do is try to swing a semi-blockbuster, and deal a player like Bob Short. Short has value, and trading him would help me in a few ways. That would mean my five outfielders are now four, and that I would be in a better sport for next season when I will have (at least) 3 guys ready for a call-up, 2 OF's and a 1B/DH... Something has to give, but I wasn't going to do anything till the off-season. The pressure is rising and the Express keep on getting better... I have to keep my eyes on our goal and hopefully we can make things happen over the next 2 months. I liked it better when we had 10 game lead. ![]() Standings Leaders DE Southern: Milton Brewers: 61-36 (+7.0) DE Northern: Wilmington Iron Pigs: 55-43 (+3.0) MV Eastern: Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs: 58-40 (+1.5) MV Western: Norfolk Cavaliers: 65-32 (+6.5) Players of the Week: Delaware: Alonso Martinez (Wilmington Iron Pigs) 14-29, 4 HR's, 12 RBI's MarVa: Martin Hurst (Ellicott City Express) 18-30, HR, 5 RBI's, 9 R's Power Rankings: 1) Norfolk Cavaliers (122.6) 2) Milton Brewers (116.2) 3) Ellicott City Express (115.0) 4) Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs (111.5) 5) Wilmington Iron Pigs (107.0) News: Ellicott City Express: RF Javier Dominguez has now hit in 23-straight games, the longest hitting streak of the season. Norfolk-Christiana Swap
Norfolk-Christiana Swap: Perdnard for Reese: Both sides appear content with the trade finalized today that will send 26-year-old second baseman Edgardo Perdnard, 23-year-old minor league starting pitcher Sergio Santana and a 10th round draft pick to the Christiana Blue Hens, while the Norfolk Cavaliers will receive 24-year-old starting pitcher Lanny Reese. "This is a move that filled a few gaps in our roster," said the Cavaliers general manager. For his part, the Blue Hens GM said the trade was made "in the best interest of our organization's future." BNN analysts reported that on paper the trade seemed to be a plus for both ball clubs. The players involved are expected to join their new teams for the next scheduled game.
This season Reese has fanned 87 in 144.1 innings and collected a 12-2 record with a 2.74 ERA. --- I feel like we made a GREAT deal here, we acquired a solid young pitcher, for really nothing that is going to effect the core of this team. I almost had a deal for the older star, but then I luckily noticed that he had signed a 5-year extension. With Lanny I get a 24 year old kid who is still making the minimum and is having a great year with great stats. His ratings are solid (Stuff:14/15, Movement: 12/12, Control: 12/13) however Shelton sees him as only a 3* player with back-end effectiveness. OSA see's him a little better, but either way I think I got steal. What does this mean to my roster and rotation? Well it means that I am going with 12 pitchers and 13 position players for the time being. Armando Lopez will be moved back to the bullpen in hopes he can solidify it. He may end up back in the rotation for Angel Rivera down the road but right now Rivera gets the nod as the "better" starter. Rivera: 17 GS, 7-4 3.86, 1.23 WHIP, BABIP: .234 Lopez: 9 GS, 6-2 4.21, 1.25 WHIP, BABIP: .310 With the deal I will maintain my 6-man rotation... Got this deal done 4 days before the deadline, and that is the only deal I will be making...

I am nervous about this one, I have seen some guys in this league have issues when returning from a concussion, hopefully he isn't one. He was a star on offense this year (.326-19-69)... Bob Short will get the call... Not sure who is getting the call to replace Lawson on the roster however. Other/Roster News: SP Joaquin Hernandez is going to miss 9 days after being ejected during his start this week. Hernandez plucked Javier Reyes of the Admirals who wasn't happy and charged the mound. A full-fledged bench-clearing brawl ensued. And both guys were suspended for 9 games afterwards. GM Notes: It seems to me now that the offensive roles have been better identified, ie Frank is the FT SS, Torres the FT 2B, Lopez the FT 2B, and the OF knows who is DH'ing and who is on the bench everyone is playing better. The first month and half I couldn't stop tinkering with the OF, and the IF had a crazy rotation going. Know with Flores in AAA (hitting the ball all over the place) the IF knows their role and seem to be coming around. I am feeling a little better about this offense every week... (we still leave too many people stranded however). I think this might be favorite catching duo in NFK history. With Mike Baldwin (.89-8-22) doing an great job as the back-up and Henry Rojas (.351-12-56) breaking out. I have to admit Baldwin is hitting a lot better than I could of ever predicted. Remember at the end of last season I was ready to sign John O'Donegan to be my back-up this season. Maybe that a light a fire. I am torn about what to do with Lazzaro Tadiotto. He hasn't pitched poorly, but he hasn't been great either. I am thinking of dropping him down to AAA, moving up a reliever and changing the rotation back to a 5-man with Lanny. That or Lopez could head back to the rotation and we could keep it at 6. Obviously, I don't understand what a pitching abundance means. As I acquired another young pitcher, who is going to be around for a long while. Which means next season I will be back in the same situation as I was this year with too many pitchers... however this could spell the end of Carlos Coronado. Not sure, but again its not a bad spot to be in. The Express made a deal this week which gave me some more confidence. They traded away one of their top pitchers in efforts to bolster their offense, expect, at least in my opinion, it wasn't a good deal for that. Losing Brock will hurt them in the long run. I say that, but this team keeps on surprising everyone so who really knows. Coming up on the final 2 months of the season, which should be fun and exciting. We have 4 games against the Express in August and 3 more in September, so they could really be big games when it comes down to it. I am still in shock that we got swept by them to start off the 2nd half. After singing MAG's praise he has been roughed up, so I am hoping I didn't jinx him... He needs to start focusing again and I think he will be fine, but seeing him blow 2 of his last 3 save opportunities isn't that great. We have not won 20 games in a month this year and we have 2 months left. My goal for the end of the season is to pull that off at least one time! Hopefully it will be August and we can start pulling away from the Express (again). ![]() Standings Leaders DE Southern: Milton Brewers: 64-39 (+7.5) DE Northern: Wilmington Iron Pigs: 60-45 (+3.0) MV Eastern: Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs: 63-40 (+2.5) MV Western: Norfolk Cavaliers: 69-34 (+6.5) Players of the Week: Delaware: Alonso Martinez (Wilmington Iron Pigs) 12-28, 3 HR's, 9 RBI's MarVa: Trevor Parker (Norfolk Cavaliers) 10-22, 2 HR's, 9 RBI's Power Rankings: 1) Norfolk Cavaliers (125.6) 2) Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs (124.1) 3) Ellicott City Express (114.7) 4) Wilmington Iron Pigs (112.9) 5) Milton Brewers (1110.8) News: Ellicott City Express: RF Javier Dominguez had his DBL season long hitting streak stopped at 24-games. July 2027 - In Review
July 2027 Award Winners
Delaware Conference Monthly Awards Delaware Conference Selects July's Best Batter: António Castaneda battered Delaware Conference pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award. "I've been around DELMARVA Baseball League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 27-year-old Castaneda told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month." In 24 games, Castaneda hit .393 with 12 home runs, 24 RBIs and scored 29 runs. This season Castaneda is batting .322 with 116 hits and 38 home runs. He has scored 91 times and has 82 runs batted in. Pitcher of the Month Named in DEConf: July's top hurler was Júlio Rocha of Milton. He shackled Delaware Conference hitters the entire month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award with a sparkling 4-0 mark. The 26-year-old Rocha added 29 strikeouts in 39 innings and 7 walks to his season record and compiled a 1.85 ERA. Other clubs hit .205 against him. This season-to-date Rocha has 15 wins and 4 losses and a 2.69 ERA. Delaware Conference Names Rookie of Month: A veritable toddler to the Delaware Conference, Ryan Sutton just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for July. Over the past month the 23-year-old center fielder for New Castle hit .296 with 29 hits, 5 home runs and 17 runs batted in. He also logged 7 walks and compiled a .343 on-base percentage. This year Sutton is batting .314 with 13 home runs. MarVa Conference Monthly Awards MVConf Honors Lawson, #1 Batter in July: When Leonard Lawson stepped up to the plate in July, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the MarVa Conference Batter of the Month award. The young Norfolk left fielder posted a .393 batting average with 9 home runs, 23 RBIs and scored 25 runs. Lawson also worked pitchers for 6 walks to post a .455 on-base percentage. For the year Lawson is hitting .326 with 19 home runs. His stats include 69 RBI and 68 runs scored. Watts Earns July's Best Pitcher Honor: Veteran Dave Watts put together quite a successful stretch in July for the Chesapeake Blue Crabs, earning himself the MarVa Conference Pitcher of the Month award. Watts racked up a 5-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 2.88 ERA over 40.2 innings and striking out 35. So far this year Watts has compiled a 9-7 record with a 4.12 ERA. MVConf Selects Rookie Star of the Month: José García's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Ocean City shortstop has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month. In July he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award. During the month he hit .386 with 6 doubles, 3 triples and 1 home run. García also scored 14 times and drove in 21 runs. So far this season, García has recorded a .341 batting average with 117 hits, 8 home runs, 56 RBIs, 65 runs scored and a .377 OBP. With 3 top starters (Fareles, Rocha and Rivera) and the DC's leading offense, they should be in good shape the rest of the way. In 3 weeks they will get back one of their better bats (Chip Hurt) and that will only make them better. Samuel Darcy is their offensive leader: .290-20-65 and Julio Rocha their top pitcher: 15-4 2.69. Northern Division: Current Leader: Wilmington Iron Pigs (60-45 .571 / +3.0) Projected Winner: Wilmington Iron Pigs (93-69 .574 / +1) The Iron Pigs won 18 games in July, but only gained 2 games. They have the DC's #2 offense in runs scored and #2 starters ERA right behind the Brewers. So it says a lot about them. The made a big trade at the deadline to get van der Burgh to help their offense so they should be able to hold off the Millers. The Millers have suffered through injuries with 6 guys currently on the DL, so as they continue to get healthy things may change. The Iron Pigs are lead by Silver Slugger favorite Antonio Castandea: .322-38-82 and Golden Arm favorite Ricardo Gonzalez: 12-5 3.06. Eastern Division: Current Leader: Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs (63-40 .612 / +2.5) Projected Winner: Ocean City Tourists (88-74 .543 / +2) The Surf Dawgs had an off month in July winning just 13 of 24 games, but lucky for them the Blue Crabs and the Tourists didn't fare much beter, and they only lost 1/2 a game. The Surf Dawgs are going to have a tough time holding off the Blue Crabs and Tourists if they continue to play like they did in July. On a side note the Blue Crabs traded their top hitter, during July so it will be interesting to see what August brings to them. Virginia Beach is lead by All-Star shortstop Shunen Koyama (.283-17-63) and SP Jorge Cardenas (12-3 3.25). Western Division: Current Leader: Norfolk Cavaliers (69-34 .670 / +6.5) Projected Winner: Norfolk Cavaliers (116-46 .716 / +21) Norfolk won 17 games in July turning things around after a rough June, but they still aren't playing as good a they did in April and May. The big difference has been their pitching, yes they are still ranked #1, but they aren't having as much success as they were the first two months of the season. The lost 3.5 games over July as the red-hot, and surprising, Ellicott City Express are playing their best ball of possible their franchise history. This division is far from over and with 7 games remaining against each other its bound to fun. Norfolk is lead by OF Trevor Parker (.298-20-74) and hot-shot rookie pitcher Ernie Kennedy (11-5 2.31)

Thats about it, I figured I would see how this goes and make any adjustments down the road. My rotation scares me. GM Notes: What is going on with Miguel Angel Gonzalez. He can't seem to close the door since the All-Star Break. Before the All-Star break he was 25 for 26 in save opporunties with his only blown save coming in May. Since the break he is 1 for 4. part of it is lack of save opportunities, but it seems like something else is going on. I would say maybe its his innings, but last year he threw in 152 and in 2024 he hit 219. I don't know, but if he can't start close games soon I am going to be forced to make a change. And I really don't want to. Juan Hernandez was hitting HR's left and right in AAA (this year and last) but he is still waiting to contact on his first one in the bigs. He has 74 AB's... this year he is hitting .292 (7-24) and has connected on 3 doubles. He looks very comfortable and it will be hard to send him down when Lawson returns. Despite playing in 2 extra inning games, Ryan Williams is still waiting to make his debut... I guess when you get two shut-outs it helps keep the bullpen fresh... I think as we move further along into the season we have seen our bullpen getting beat. I wonder if its our youth finally catching up to us. We really don't have that "vet" in the pen that knows how to stop the bleeding on a regular basis. I do enjoy beating up on the Senators and Barons. I still hold a grudge against those Barons for knocking us out of the playoffs two seasons in a row... yet for some reason no matter how bad the Barons may be we just can't seem to beat them. I am not sure why, but we have struggled for years against them. Our Schedule doesn't get any easier, as we continue to play teams that are good or that we struggle against. Having this young staff is going to be interesting. Reese is going to have to step it up and continue having a solid season. I will need Rivera and Hernandez to continue throwing some quality starts. Kennedy needs to get back on track and Paul Brown has to step up and be this staff's leader. We have a long way to go and we aren't out of the woods yet. The Express helped us last week with their struggles and in all honesty, I beleive their trade of Shawn Brock is going to haunt them. When I saw that trade, he was listed as their #1, I exhaled a little bit. Coming down to the final 60 games I am starting to get a little worried if I need to watch these young guys innings? Hernandez, Kennedy and Rivera are going to pitch in a career high innings this year. All these kids have bright futures, and I'd have to ruin it because I didn't know when to say when. As for the offense, I just need to them keep on doing what they are doing and hopefully get a little more consistent at it along the way. I geuss I did this to myself as we are a team full of young kids, who is going to step up and be that leader? I don't think we can win it all if no one does. ![]() Standings Leaders DE Southern: Milton Brewers: 68-42 (+7.0) DE Northern: Wilmington Iron Pigs: 62-49 (+2.5) MV Eastern: Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs: 69-41 (+3.5) MV Western: Norfolk Cavaliers: 72-37 (+8.0) Players of the Week: Delaware: Vance Burns (Georgetown Sixteens) 15-26, 3 HR's, 10 RBI's MarVa: Felipe Herrera (Salisbury Ports) 10-23, 4 HR's, 8 RBI's Power Rankings: 1) Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs (125.9) 2) Norfolk Cavaliers (116.9) 3) Chesapeake Blue Crabs (113.0) 4) Milton Brewers (112.3) 5) Ellicott City Express (107.1) News: New Castle Colonials: MR Mariano Salazar will miss 4 months with shoulder inflammation. 2500th Hit for Davis
2500th Hit for Davis: Cardinals center fielder Kent Davis never thought his name would be associated with some of the great players in league history. Now that he has reached the 2500-hit threshold, that's all but guaranteed. Davis collected his big hit in a 5-1 loss to Chesapeake. Afterward, he thought about the achievement: "Overwhelmed," he said. "That's how I feel about it right now." Davis went 1-4 for the game. In his all-time stats Davis is hitting .342 with 2500 hits, 23 home runs, 1115 runs scored and 786 RBIs.
-- With that, Kent Davis becomes the first player in the DBL to reach the 2500 hit mark. Kent Davis is a singles machine and by the end of his 5th season there was no question he was going to march right past the 3000 hit mark for his career... but then injuries started coming and coming, he has battled through them, but he hasn't be the hitter he once was. At 37-years old the chase to 3000 maybe out of his reach, but this is a mark that he will treasure for a long while. Congrats to Kent Davis, and I hope he can continue to play and be healthy for a few more years to come.

Armando Lopez will head back into the rotation and SS Claudio Flores was called up from AAA. He was hitting .379 down there, but won't be an every day player here. Other/Roster News: With Flores back on the roster, Trevor Parker will no longer see time at 3B. Flores will remain the back-up 3B and SS, however Mario Vazquez will still see time until he isn't hitting better than Flores. GM Notes: When you think of a 1st place pitching staff you wouldn't think of a team that has 4 SP's 24 and under as their go to guys, but that is exactly what we have. And as we move further and further into the season innings pitched by these young pitchers is becoming a concern. The injury to Ernie Kennedy makes this a littl more in-our-face... Here is what it looks like this season, compared to theri previous total and what they are on pace for in 2027. Just about everyone is about to set career highs, and the one who isn't missed most of last year with an injury: Lanny Reese, 24-years-old, 2015: 167.0, Highest Previous: 207 (2025), Pace: 233.1 Jaoquin Hernandez, 22, 2015: 125.1, Highest: 201.1 (2025), Pace: 175.0 Angel Rivera, 24, 2015: 137.0, Highest: 170.2 (2023), Pace: 191.1 Ernie Kennedy, 22, 2015: 143.1, Highest: 188.2 (2026), Pace: 200.1 I am going to have a little issue with Leonard Lawson comes back from the DL, with the way Juan Hernandez is hitting the ball (.280-1-10) it will be hard to send him down to AAA, but if I don't I will have to somehow figure out how to get PT for 6 outfielders, and its been hard enough with 5. I haven't seen the Cavaliers get beat as bad as we did this week in a long time. When was the last time this team gave up 19 runs? OUCH! The sad thing is none of the pitches that day seemed to be able to get any one out. Including Kennedy who left injured we had 6 pitchers give up 2 or more runs. David Moran, 2 innings, 2 unearned runs, pitched the best of all the guys. Michael Meagher went 2/3 scoreless... it was just an all around ugly game. Watching our SP ERA and BP ERA creeping up is starting to make a little nervous. If we don't have the pitching that is going to keep runs off the board how are we going to win games? I just don't have faith in these guys coming through in the "clutch". Maybe the infusion of Juan Hernandez will help us out. The Express have fallen off quite a bit, going 4-10 in August and 6-10 since the dealing of Sean Brock. This has helped us to jump up to a 11.5 game lead in our division. If we can win this division early we will be able to rest some of our pitching, go back to the 6-man rotation possible, get some guys from AAA some experience. Best laid plans, right? With a 4 game set coming up next week against the express we can just about start putting the nails if the coffin if we can sweep... With under 50 games to go we are in a great position. Things look much better than that did just 3 weeks ago. Here is hoping we can stay healthy the rest of the way. ![]() Standings Leaders DE Southern: Milton Brewers: 71-45 (+5.5) DE Northern: Wilmington Iron Pigs: 66-50 (+3.5) MV Eastern: Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs: 75-41 (+5.5) MV Western: Norfolk Cavaliers: 77-39 (+11.5) Players of the Week: Delaware: Alonso Martinez (Wilmington Iron Pigs) 11-21, 3 HR's, 8 RBI's MarVa: Domingo Valencia (Ocean City Tourists) 10-27, 3 HR's, 11 RBI's, 4 R's Power Rankings: 1) Virginia Beach Surf Dawgs (137.4) 2) Norfolk Cavaliers (123.5) 3) Chesapeake Blue Crabs (111.7) 4) Milton Brewers (110.2) 5) Wilmington Iron Pigs (106.4) News: Salisbury Ports: RF Matt Douglas isn't known for his power, but this week he showed it up going 4-4 with 3 HR's, all solo-shots. Peters Slams Milestone Homer
Peters Slams Milestone Homer: Colonials left fielder Peter Peters reached a career milestone yesterday, blasting home run number 500.
He took the achievement in stride. "It's always good to get another home run and even better to get another win," Peters told reporters in the postgame interview. He went 2-3 during the New Castle 9-2 triumph over the Newark Millers and scored 1 run with 3 runs batted in. His numbers show Peters is carrying a .311 lifetime batting average with 500 home runs and 1349 RBIs. --- This seems to be year where the milestones keep on coming. Now that we are 15 seasons into the DBL the big stats are happening, and its been interesting to watch. The other dynasty's or leagues I played I simmed 50 seasons before I took over a team just to have that history, this is the first one I took over from Day, been a different experience. Peter Peters is one of my favorite DBL players of all time. He is also THE first player of the DBL: 01/01/2013 Drafted in the 2013 inaugural draft (Round 1, Pick 1, 1st overall pick) by the New Castle Colonials. He has spent his entire career with the Colonials and I hope he ends up retiring one. He is only the 2nd player to reach the 500 HR mark, but I think the 600 mark might a little out of his reach. Yes Peters is only 35, but he is 'wrecked' and has been battling injury after injury for a long time. Not sure how many more productive seasons he has left. Congrats to the Peter Peters the first player of the DBL, on his 500th HR.
