Germany had the personal for it. They made a living on defense and then lashing back with the counter attack.

England has one of the best midfields in the world and their strikers (when healthy and not stomping on other players genitals) can play with anyone.
They were not utilized at all in this tournement.

Agreed. Criminal, best group of players we've had in my lifetime and completely wasted.

I don't think I was being overly critical of him. I made known my assessment of him today and since I wasn't familiar with him before today I asked for others to fill me in on his strengths. And for not being a big goal scorer, ABC's graphic made it seem like he was. Showing that he scored 6 times in England's last 10 world cup matches and England was 9-0-1 when he plays (9-1-1 now).

I agree with you but isn't this the way Germany up till Klinsmann have played, get in front then rely on not conceding.

I guess it is all my fault - I had predicted the game down to a T, pre-tournament in the World Cup prediction thread:

Quote:
(Quarterfinals)
Portugal over England – Now I know a lot of England fans want to see England-Germany again, but after the new manager debacle with Portugal’s current coach this is a certainty to happen.
And like Euro 2004 it probably will go to penalty kicks. And you know England won’t win on penalties.

Yes, because the players were never there to keep pressing for goals for a full 90 minutes.
England could bludgeon opponents to death if they played with an attacking mentality. They would not have to sit on leads and rely on there defense since they would have the players to keep scoring the goals and keep the pressure in the attacking zone.

He scored 5 goals in friendlies, not World Cup matches, before the tournament; 3 of them against a very poor Jamaica. ABC needs better graphics. His role is to hold the ball up while others get forward, link up with the midfield and bring others into play. All of that he did very well today.

I was making a general statement about him which you suddenly placed on this single game, I then said my thoughts about him on the game. I dont really give a **** whether some arrogant Englishmen thinks Im an expert on soccer or not.

Agreed, SGE is a poor, defensive coach.

He won trophies in Italy - it doesn't come much more defensive than that.

You criticised Crouch for not being a quick, dangerous goalscorer: which is about as relevant as me criticising Barry Bonds for not being a shortstop. When challenged, you then claimed he gave the ball away easily today, which he blatantly did not.
