If something's not working properly with the non-playable roster movement system, it may. I haven't run a multiple-season test with a setup like that in a while, I'll try it out and see if I can confirm and/or figure out what's going wrong.

Sorry if this has been asked before: What does the EA-box represent in the tactics screen?

Extra attacker (when goalie is pulled).

The historically-adjusted dollar amounts aren't literal representations of the finances in a particular season (doing that would lead to big problems because the NHL's finances have had some radical up- and down-swings - like the salary increases after the NHLPA formed or the decreases after the 2005 lockout - which would be very messy for the game's financial systems if we duplicated them, so the dollar translation for historical systems smooths things out a bit). So you don't have a particular advantage or disadvantage over other teams, but we should be dropping the cap down along with the rest of the finances so it matches the in-game salaries for that year a little better.
Thanks for answering. I get that everyone is restricted to the same amount, but it does cause an unbalance to the game: all other teams for some reason are above their budget which makes it impossible to make trades for them outside of the July unless I eat in a lot of money, or I force a trade, which I don't like to do.

Also, I don't know my NHL contract rule history, but now that I'm in 2006 (after the lockout), isn't there a rule for rookies to have a cap on rookie contacts? Crosby (who I managed to draft @ 7th overall surprisingly) was asking for over 2 M, but I thought rookies could only go up to 925,000. Is this something you guys weren't expecting or were there some rule in 2006-07 that I'm not aware of.

How Do You Accept Contracts

Hey guys I just started playing this game, I had a few contract offers when I started but since i've red them I can no longer accept them if I want to. When I go to available jobs they are not on the list. How do I accept a contract? Thanks!

Nope.

Breakaways are 99% effective though.

Is there a way to edit historical starts? I usually start 1972 WHA, and I have a problem with the ahistorical fact that Brett Hull has only one-year contract with the Jets, and always becomes a free agent after the first season.

In Commish mode you should be able to edit the contract info.

I assume you mean Bobby Hull. He had a contract worth $1.75 million over 10 years plus a $1 million signing bonus.

Yes, I meant Bobby, obviously.

Thanks for the info. I should try the Comissioner mode next time.

Since games can be saved as quickstarts (IIRC), I think I'm going to devote some time to make a 1972 start more accurate (starting with contracts), and present it as a custom mod.

I've just bought FHM and have been replaying an "original six" season 1962-63) to become familiar with the game. A couple of questions: There seems to be a lot of unused space on the game screen which could be used for more stats etc. Is there a way of configuring the screen like in OOTP? The penalty box feature seems somewhat arbitrary since players with major penalties are sometimes both in the box and on the ice, is this a known bug? It seems that when two players get 5 minutes for fighting, it's counted as a power play for both teams...or have I misunderstood something? Anyway, there are also a lot of good things about the game and I shall certainly be playing some more.

Is it possible to expand a league multiple times? I'm planning on starting a fictional league which will eventually have 16 teams. I want to know beforehand, so that I don't start with 8 teams and find out I can only expand the league once.

This might be a dumb question, but I can't figure out how to select players to trade, or how to add players to the trade block... can someone help me out?

The easiest way is just right-clicking on their names, that'll bring up a list of options.

Yup, you can expand multiple times, 2 teams per year. Going from 8 to 16 in four (or more) seasons will work.

We're not quite as configurable as OOTP (yet). The game will use some of the extra screen space (the penalty box view is a 'bonus' feature for larger screens and won't appear on, say, a smaller laptop), but resizing/rearranging/stretching the match view will likely be a project for a future version.

It shouldn't be counting fighting majors as power plays - where exactly are you seeing that, in the boxscore during the game, or looking back after it's been played? Seeing players on the ice and in the penalty box sounds like a display error with the box; that's a fairly new feature and may still have some issues, so we'll keep an eye out for that happening.
