With two hours to go, here are two bits of info - one a fact, one a stat.

Firstly, the fact, which some of you may know:
Mallorca, Barcelona, and Spain defender Miguel Angel Nadal, a scorer of three goals in 62 internationals, and a member of the Spanish national team at the 1994, 1998, and 2002 World Cup finals, is the uncle of two-time French Open tennis champion, Rafael.

Secondly, the stat:
If there are no hattrick heroes in the final six games, this will become the first World Cup finals in history to have no player score three goals in a single game.

Today's venue and info:

The Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen, formerly the Arena AufSchalke, is home of Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04.

This is the 12th finals tournament game (either European Championship or World Cup) held in Gelsenkirchen, and the first in a knockout stage, and here are the city stats:
There have been 10 wins, and one draw in games in the city (Argentina and West Germany drew 1-1 in their 1974 World Cup second group stage tie).

Of those ten wins, on nine occasions the losing team has been shutout - one thing to watch out for, as it seems the first goal may prove vital (the only team to lose and not be shutout are Mexico at this World Cup in their Group E match against Portugal, 1-2).

Other stats:
Code:
Biggest Wins: 1974 WC Group 2 - Yugoslavia 9, Zaire 0 (Parkstadion);
2006 WC Group C - Argentina 6, Serbia & Montenegro 0 (Veltins-Arena).

Total of 37 goals (3.36 ave.)

Record in Gelsenkirchen:
Portugal	1-0-0
England 0-0-0

I have. But I'm not very good at drawing parallels between two different things. You have to spell it out for me, or else I'm in the dark.

I think the statistics might have given that away.

I guess you're going soon, and with nobody else around, I guess that will pacify those moaning at the thread for today.

I think England will win today, btw.

I heard about that late last night while watching Wimbledon coverage due to nothing else being on...apparently he played forward somewhere as well.

I like the nine losing shutouts in ten winning games in Gelsenkirchen as well though.

They had a bookie on the radio earlier who said for one bet on Portugal to win, there were five on England.
