Herrera wins title in second weight class

I am going to list the before and after rankings now on the fight cards listed as (before/after) all rankings will be the WBA rankings unless it's a title fight for another organization. Also I will list my scorecard on the fights I watch in bold.

July 5, 1910

Fan favorite Aurelio Herrera (11/CH) (20-8) gave one of his most dominating performances to win the WBA Lightweight title over Frank Erne (ch/6) (19-6-2).

Fans in the US and Mexico rejoiced as Herrera dominated the bout from the 2nd round on. After a feeling out first round, Herrera dropped Erne in the second. Then he started Erne's right eye swelling in the 5th, dropped Erne again in the 8th, swelled up Erne's left eye in the 13th and finally knocked him down again in the 14th.

After getting a bad cut under his left eye in the 10th, Herrera took four out of the last five rounds despite using the Protect Cut strategy for 3 of the last 5. (smart work by the AI there)

I had it 148-135. TC Dale, ringside expert, had it 147-136. The official judges had it 146-136/146-136/147-135.

This was only for Erne's WBA title. Per LBA rules the WBC title will be vacated and two fighters will fight for it in August. Contestants to be determined at the end of the month.

On the undercard

FW - Tommy White (30/20) (12-7-3) UD10 Jerry Marshall (17/26) (10-8-2) 96-94 White

FW - Frank Robson (44/30) (11-1-5) TKO6 Jerry Barnett (13/24) (12-6) (both at pre)

HW - Dominic McCaffrey (4/3) (29-10-3) KO3 Jack Gardner (22/30) (7-8-1) (gardner at pre)

HW - William Miller (club) (15-19-3) UD8 Jack Ashton (UR) (7-1-1) 77-75 Miller (miller at post, ashton at pre in this club fight)

LH - Charley Stevenson (club/6) (11-11) TKO3 Charlie O'Donnell (club) (11-19-3) (o'donnell at post in this club fight .... stevenson moves back up to main with the win)

YES, WAY TO GO HERRERA. I'm damn happy to see him to not only get the win but to dominate the champ like that. To bad the WBC wasn't up for grabs also. Here's hoping that Herrera settles in for a nice long reign.

I was just looking back though the thread reading up again on Herrera's whole career and if your last name is Erne you should just stay away from the man. He's blasted both Frank and Young Erne with ease.

Yeah he did the Erne's in ... Young was pre-prime for the fight but he did really blast both of them. As long as he stays away from slick boxers he'll be alright. I'm about ready to send out a search party for Javier!

Ha, yeah haven't seen Javier around much the last few days, where ever he is I'm sure he's throwing a few back in celebation of Herrera's win.

Oh yeah, has Steve Taylor already retired yet or not, looking back at the old days reminded me of him and last we heard he was pretty close to retirement.

He's hanging around at 17-20. He's currently at End stage and in the club ranks but as it stands right now he is 6-4 in his last 10 so if he got auto retired he'd get moved back to end.

Thanks for the update on Taylor hopefully he can even out his record and then retire at least with a .500 record.

Yep agreed Javier due to the fact that there won't be any Cuban fighters for awhile I've adopted Herrera as our guy as well.

He's ranked 3rd and won his last fight so now it's just a matter of being scheduled the same month a champion is. Cole and Britton both ranked higher. West is in line but has to keep winning.

Welter is still a little ways away from getting the IBF. Gans has both of the other two titles.

Good stuff as always. Man big win there West damn he hammered Jackson hardcore. Suprised that Ryan stuggled as much as he did with Baker still good to see make his way up the rankings again.

McCoy manhandles McCarthy

I am going to list the before and after rankings now on the fight cards listed as (before/after) all rankings will be the WBA rankings unless it's a title fight for another organization. Also I will list my scorecard on the fights I watch in bold.

July 22, 1910

Charles McCoy (CH) (28-8-3) boxed and fouled his way to his 4th defense of the WBC Middleweight title with a UD15 over Billy McCarthy (6/9) (26-13-3).

McCoy started slow but took over after the first couple of rounds and battered McCarthy the rest of the way. McCarthy's right eye started to swell in the 3rd and was a factor the rest of the fight.

Referee Laurence Cole allowed McCoy to do what he wanted most of the fight as he was cautioned 4 times and warned twice but never penalized.

I had it 147-139, as did Shane Macleod at ringside. The official judges had it 145-140/146-139/145-140.

Jack Dempsey NP was on the undercard and said all week that he deserved the title shot. He was rated 3rd but was behind McCarthy in the WBC rankings.

On the undercard

WW - Dal Hawkins (20/16) (14-12-1) KO10 Billy Nalley (26/30) (7-8-1) (nalley at pre)

Fw - Billy Snailham (8/6) (16-4) SD10 Jack Downey (25/33) (12-7) 95-94 downey (snailham at pre.... avenges one of his losses .... Downey penalized in the last round which cost him the fight)

MW - Jack Dempsey (3/1) (36-5) TKO10 Dick Barker (41/43) (7-8-2) (barker at pre)

HW - Charlie Wilson (81/75) (10-9-3) SD10 Punch Vaughn (72/80) (12-6) (vaughn at pre)

WW - Bill Quinn (club) (9-13-2) SD8 Tom Meadows (UR) (7-5) (meadows at pre in this club fight ... Meadows drops to 1-5 against non TC's)
