they just said that was because a German player got stepped on...any confirmation?

This World Cup, at a current goal per game average of 2.35, is the second lowest in the history of the competition. The lowest was Italia 90 at 2.21, and it is far behind the third lowest, Korea/Japan 2002 at 2.52.

However if we use the knockout round games to date to project the final total, there will only be a further 13 goals in the final 6.5 games, therefore giving a total of 148 for a final average of just 2.31 goals per game.

There have been a few more amazing goals from long range than usual..without that ball it would be even worse. I still contend that the excess reds have changed the face of games causing teams to shutdown

This is what the BBC Sport news article says:
Quote:
(Oliver) Bierhoff told German TV that he intervened after an Argentina substitute trod on German defender Per Mertesacker, leaving the player lying on the ground.

The trouble seemed to start when midfielder Tim Borowski gestured towards the Argentina players to "keep quiet" having scored his penalty to make it 4-2 in Germany's favour.

Several of the South American players walked towards him and when the final Argentina spot-kick was saved, the Argentina defender Fabricio Coloccini approached Germany's Oliver Neuville.

Punches were thrown in a brief melee before it was broken up.
Full article here:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...ny/5135124.stm

I'm guessing the unnamed Argentine substitute is Cufre.

EDIT - And Eumel has the shorter answer.

I mentioned that earlier today I thought, but I didnt think about the arguments with the new ball...which I still dislike. Im still saying this is the worst World Cup of my lifetime thus far.

Unless Landon's suddenly earning nearly half a million pounds a month from the LA Galaxy, Shevchenko is much more overrated. Sorry to annoy the French fans again, but Henry is there as well for me, and even :swoon: Podolski, who again today couldn't hit a barn door from ten paces.

ignorant Americans surely did...I didnt think he would be anywhere near as bad as he was, but I knew he wouldnt be the reason for any of our success...it was just sad performance capped off by his pass off in the 18 vs Ghana.
