Povetkin scores UD15 over American prospect, Flores...
Alexander Povetkin, Russia, 18-4-1 (11) vs. B.J. Flores, USA, 13-5-0 (9)
Allstate Arena, Rosemont, IL, USA. What an exciting round for the fans here in the first round as Alexander Povetkin, 15-14, and B.J. Flores exchange punches for the entire three minutes. Flores continues his torrid pace and outpoints Povetkin in the 2nd, 16-10. Rounds 3,4,5 are pretty even as each fighter counterpunches the other very well. Povetkin goes to work in the 6th, 11-2, as Flores slows down a bit, showing a little sign of fatigue. Remember, Povetkin has real good stamina and experience going into or past the 10th round, 16 times while Flores has reached the same round 10 times. Povetkin has also face the better competition while this is a step-up fight for the young, American fighter. Flores is really in trouble in the 9th, 24-3, and looks shaken going back to his corner. A short, clean left hook sends Flores to the deck. He barely makes it up at the count of nine and struggles to finish the 11th round, 25-0. Flores still hasn’t recovered from the last round and goes down again here in the 12th. Povetkin cannot close the deal for the second consecutive round but wins on points, 18-2. That is the one aspect of Povetkin’s package that I am not impressed with - his lack of big-time power to be a finisher. I think that is going to separate him from being an elite, heavyweight champion. Povetkin finishes the fight impressively, 19-0, in the 14th, and 13-5, in the last round. Winner: Povetkin Result: (UD15) Cards: 146-139, 146-139, 143-142 (MUST BE ON CRACK!), all three cards in favor of Povetkin Punch stats: 226-859, 26.3% Flores - 362-1493, 24.2% Povetkin |

2nd knockout performance by Rampage Jackson...
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, USA, 8-2-0 (8) vs Big John Tate, USA, 8-2-1 (8)
Van Andel Arena, Grand Rapids, MI, USA. Both fighters come into the ring with eight wins, all by knockout, so we expect an exciting fight. The first round is just what we expected as both fighters come out swinging to the delight of the crowd. 16-14, Tate. Jackson puts Tate on the seat of his pants with a perfect right cross and then again with a left hook. Tate gets up again, but that round, 24-3, is going to put him way behind in the scorecards. Rampage puts Tate down for the third and final time at the 2:58 mark of the 4th round. Quinton Jackson has put together two very nice performances after a minor setback. Winner: Jackson Result: (KO4) Cards: 29-26, on all three cards in favor of Jackson Punch stats: 68-161, 42.2% Tate - 98-239, 41% Jackson |

Tiger ends the fight quickly, to get us out of this heat, at the 1:27 mark of the very 1st round. Winner: Tiger Result: (KO1) Cards: N/A Punch stats: 0-0, 0% Cooper - 18-18, 100% Tiger |

Cane wins against a tough "Buster" Trenkle...
Union Cane, USA, 7-1-0 (7) vs George Trenkle, USA, 6-2-1 (1)
Wahconah Park, Pittsfield, MA, USA. “Buster” Trenkle is giving Cane fits in the first two rounds, 13-8, 11-8. Cane is finally able to get his shots off first, 11-4, in the 4th. Cane increases the pressure and takes the middle rounds. It is a pretty uneventful fight so far and it looks as though Union Cane has the lead going into the 11th. The 14th is a big round for Cane as he puts Trenkle down for the first time in this fight. Trenkle makes it back to his corner, beaten, cut and fatigued. We go to the last round. Trenkle goes the distance. Winner: Cane Result: (UD15) Cards: 144-140, 144-140, 145-139, all three cards in favor of Cane Punch stats: 276-1044, 26.4% Trenkle - 345-1072, 32.2% Cane |

Mancini debuts for BGP with a 13th round TKO...
Ray Mancini, Italy, 2-0-0 (2) vs Fausto Rossi, Italy, 2-0-0 (2)
Vigorelli Velodrome, Milan, Italy. Fausto and Mancini come in with identical 2-0-0 (2) records. The first two rounds are split between each fighter. Mancini takes the 5th by a close margin and then puts Rossi down at the end of the 6th, 21-0. The 7th is a follow-up of the 6th, 17-6, Mancini. Mancini opens a cut over the eye of Rossi, but Rossi seems to have taken a close round. 28-6, Mancini in the 9th. Rossi is down for the 2nd time in the 12th round, as Mancini, 28-1, seems to be way ahead in this fight right now. Rossi is down twice in the 13th before the ref finally stops the fight at the 2:33 mark. Winner: Mancini Result: (TKO13) Cards: 116-110, 117-108, 117-108, all three cards in favor of Mancini Punch stats: 262-551, 47.5% Rossi - 375-905, 41.4% Mancini |

Another nice win for Povetkin. He might not have big time power but he's consistent. Was the judge who gave Sasha a one point win on his card an American judge? If so, UKBG will be filing a complaint.

Better watch out for that judge if you ever fight Golota.

RBF Eliminator fight...
The Russian Boxing Federation and RBF Champion, Vadim Tokarev, have offered UKBG and RBF#2 Alexander Povetkin, the first option to sign to fight RBF#1 Igor Vysotsky, 18-1-0 (9), in an eliminator bout scheduled for October. The winner would have the opportunity to fight for the RBF Heavyweight title in November 1954. Last months victory over B.J. Flores helped vault Povetkin past Zolkin, and separated him from Valuev in the RBF rankings.

Rampage's next fight...
Oct/Nov?
Al Roberts, USA, 14-4-0 (11) Jack Sharkey, USA, 8-3-1 (7) Tim Witherspoon, USA, 13-2-0 (12) Phil Jackson, USA, 10-2-0 (10) Tony Shucco, USA, 16-5-0 (5) Abe Simon, USA, 15-1-0 (14) Al Friedman, USA, 11-0-1 (4) Walter Neusel, Germany, 16-2-0 (13) David Izon, Nigeria, 14-3-0 (14) Donovan "Razor" Ruddock, Canada, 17-6-0 (16) * I think Muckboys and Rampage will like this selection of fighters. This will be a pretty tough next fight, but this is what Rampage wants. |
