No problem. We old Class of 34 guys need to stick together.

I think everyone would like *your* food to chew over.

It's worth testing out, especially when you have a talent as terrific as Degal.

I think adding Crowell will be just huge... especially if he keeps up his current POY pace.

I agree. It really gives him a rotation anchor. His two 20 game winners last year got to 20 more on Great Run Support than Great Pitching. He really needed someone he could count on.

In addition, whether he goes in this direction or not, it give him a reliable hand that allows him to work in one or more of his prospects. *Those* guys are his future aces. Crowell can bridge him there, and if he gets one of those kids broken in, the team is in great shape. If he gets two of them, look out. The offense is set for six years. The rotation has a chance to have a pair of aces for a decade.

5/16 THRU 5/31

5/16 DET @ WSH: loss 1-8 Alan Paule (1-1, 16.20) got his first start of the year and was injured 1.1 IP into the game. He gave up 3R and got the loss. Zolly Schoeter (3-2, 3.43) got the win giving up 1R in 8.2IP. POG honors want to WSH SS Hitman Crocitto who went 3 for 5, 3R, 2RBI, 1HR, 1SB. For us, Carlton Affee went 3 for 5, 1R, 1RBI, 1DBL, 1HR. John Dirt Bag Degal was called up and got an immediate start at catcher. He went 2 for 4 in his first ML game. Unfortunately, Paule will be day-2-day for the next 5 weeks with a strained tricep (Why does this almost always have to happen on the first game of a two week sim? )

5/17 PHI @ DET: WIN 6-1 Billy Crowell (10-1, 1.70) was awesome again, giving up 1R in a CG POG Win. Ken Malia (1-2, 4.15) got the loss giving up 6R in 4.2IP. LF Hershel Cooley was the A's top batter going 3 for 4, 1R, 2SB. For us, Bud Moore went 2 for 3, 2RBI, 1BB, 1DBL. Luther Ormiston went 1 for 2, 2R, 2RBI, 2BB, 1HR. Luther moves into a tie with Kress in the HR race at 9. Matt Perly is only 1 behind at 8HR.

5/18 PHI @ DET: WIN 5-0 Hal Andrew (7-1, 3.47) pitched 8.1 shut out innings for POG honors and the win. Walt Gajan finished the shutout pitching a hitless finally two outs. Chubby Allen went the distance for the A's but gave up 5R. Top PHI batter was young SS Ace Habermehl who went 2 for 3, 1BB. For us, Matt Perly went 3 for 4, 1R. Hal Andrew went 2 for 3. Luther Ormiston went 2 for 4, 1R, 1DBL. Bud Moore hit a 3R HR with his only hit of the day.

5/19 PHI @ DET: WIN 8-5 Bob Guilderson gave up 5R (4ER) in 7.2IP. Lloyd Wyman (3-1, 0.44) finished out the 8th for the win. Alex Footwangler (8.53, 5Sv) pitched a hitless 9th for a save. Bob Stevens went 7.2IP, but gave up 7R for the loss. Top A's batter was LF Greg Morris who went 2 for 4, 1RBI. For us, Bud Moore got POG for going 3 for 4, 4RBI, 1BB. Luther Ormiston was a perfect 2 for 2, 2R, 3RBI, 3BB, 1HR. Carl Sandoz went 2 for 4, 1R, 1DBL. A's CF Harry Badeau extended his hit streak to 17 games. David Castaneda got thrown out in the 7th for arguing a strike out with the ump.

5/20 StL @ DET: loss 2-9 Alan Paule (1-2, 11.25) started despite his injury and gave up 6R in 7IP for the loss. Paul Rivest gave up only 2R in a CG win. Brown's CF John Fahringer got POG for going 4 for 5, 3R, 4RBI, 1DBL, 1HR. RF Tony Monachino also hit well for them going 2 for 2, 1R, 2RBI, 3BB, 1SB. POG honors went to CF Johnny Champagne who went 4 for 5, 2R, 3RBI, `DBL. For us, Matt Perly went 3 for 4. Luther Ormiston and Billy Crowell both hit a solo HR for their only hits of the game.

5/22 StL @ DET: loss 1-9 Hal Andrew (7-2, 3.84) gave up 7R (6ER) in 6 IP for the loss. Four of those runs were in the 1st. Cotton Simson (6-3, 3.00) pitched great giving up only 1R in a CG win. POG was Brown's 1B Vince Chipple who went 2 for 4, 1R, 5RBI, 1HR. For us, Iggy Chennault went 3 for 4, 1RBI filling in at 3B. Matt Perly went 2 for 4, 1R, 1DBL. We weren't out hit today (9 to 9) and we committed fewer errors (1 to 2), but StL was much more efficient with their hits.

We out hit CHI 11 to 7, but still lost.

5/29 DET @ CHI: loss 9-10 This game went 10 innings. Bob Guilderson gave up 5R (4ER) in 4IP as a 2nd inning rain delay was a factor. However, the loss went to Alex Footwangler (1-2, 8.79) who gave up 2R in the finally 1.2IP. The win went to Sox closer Corky Stell (4-3, 3.86) despite giving up 2R in the final 2IP. STANDINGS
#1 in the AL, 3.5 games ahead of St. Louis, 6-8 in the last 14

BAD NEWS
-Five consecutive losses and 1-7 (from 5/20 to 5/29) was a huge disappointment.
-Several hitters were quiet for the last couple of weeks of May. Ray Kress nearly saw his avg dip below .300. When Ray isn't hitting, we are in trouble.
-Alan Paule was injured in his first start of the year but pitched from the #4 spot anyway (1-3) for two weeks. He will be replaced by Melzer who should now be healthy.
-AAA SP Eral Roberts will miss a couple of months due to a pulled tricep muscle.
-A 2B Rob Bell will also miss about 2 months with a torn calf muscle.

GOOD NEWS
-Billy Crowell got his second consecutive POM awards. This time for going 6-1, 2.03.
-Matt Perly gives us our second consecutive BOM award. He hit .402 and had 4HR, 31RBI in May.
-Luther Ormiston had a hot final two weeks. He now leads the AL in HRs (14), RUNs (55 from the cleanup spot), DBLs (20), OBP (.481), SLG (.719) and is second in RBI (55), second in AVG (.375), and third in BB (39). This guy needs a nick name... suggestions will be considered.
-AL Runs: Luther #1, Ray Kress #2, Calton Affee #3, Carl Sandoz #5.

ROSTER CHANGES
-John Dirt Bag Degal has been treading water in the Minors for four years. I've called him up to the AR so that Bud Moore can take him under his wing and hopefully light a fire under his butt. He's got too much potential so his lack of progress required me to take drastic measures.
-Vincent Solinger had to be demoted to make room for Degal. Unfortunately, he won't make it to Buffalo AAA. He'll be claimed on waivers by someone. We will miss his skill behind the plate very much.

I'll jump the gun here since Goose hasn't posted on the 6/1 - 6/15 stretch yet.

It looks like The Boss wasn't happy with the talk in the press that he might not have been playing to his fullest in May (.286/.412/.505). In the first half of June:

.512/.632/1.186 with 6/1/7 EBH, 16/17 R/RBI and 14 BB.

OUCH!!!

He and his running mate Luther are killing the AL. 3-5 in BA, 1-3 in OPB, 1-2 in SLG, 1-2 in OPS, 1-2 in RC, 1-2 in RC/27, 1-2 in HR, 1-3 in RBI, 1-2 in R, 1-3 in BB, 1-2 in EBH, 1-3 in TB.

The rest of the Tigers aren't pikers either. They lead the AL by 76 runs... 66 games into a 154 season.

The truly frightening thing about this team is that they're doing this with a excellent season from catcher Moore - .272/.376/.441, 11 2B, 7 HR and 51 RBI already. No, that's not what's frightening. It's that when John Degal develops in the next year or two, they've have another leaderboard killer to add into the #5 hole, and be able to move Perly down to the #6 spot... and he's killing the ball as well.

If they are able to "shake the tree" for a good 1B, look out.

John

Yank LF Turk Baker (2 for 4, 2R, 1rBI, 1BB, 1TRPL), RF Charles Gillis (2 for 3, 2R, 1RBI, 2BB) & SS Owen Bastow (2 for 4) all hit well. The loss went to Brown's closer Ray Seidel (2-2, 6.75). 2B Vern Piernatzski (3 for 5, 2R, 4RBI, 2HR) and 1B Vince Chipple (2 for 5, 2R, 4RBI, 2HR) both had monster games. STANDINGS
44-22, #1 in the AL, 7.5 games ahead of Boston, 11-3 in the last two weeks.

BAD NEWS
-Errol Robert's pulled tricep was worse than expected and looks as if it may adversely affect his control. He'll be out for another 11 weeks. He had been looking to make the jump to the active roster this year, but this is quite a set back.
-Bob Guilderson seems to be having a lot of late inning meltdowns. We may have to put him on a different pitch count than our other starters and he will slide down a notch to the #4 spot when the calendar allows it.
-Alex Footwangler is going to be removed from the closer position as he has cost us too many games this year. He'll move to a MR slot and will hopefully pitch better with less pressure.

GOOD NEWS
-Another 9 game win streak - those darn Yanks were the only team to beat us in the past couple of weeks.
-As mentioned above by John, Ray Kress picked it up big time in the past couple of weeks. On 6/10 he was named Player of the Week for hitting .542 in 24 AB, with 4 HR and 10 RBI.
-Harley Melzer is looking good now that he's back to 100%... will move up to the #3 spot in the rotation.
-Alan Paule should be 100% healthy in a couple more days.

ROSTER MOVES
-Lloyd Wyman will move to the closer roll as he continues to be our top dog in the Pen.
-Stan Leveck will be tried out as our primary setup guy.

6/16 THRU 6/31

6/16 DET @ NYY: loss 2-10 Dang those Yanks. They seem to find a way to beat up on Billy. Billy Crowell (14-4, 2.72) only lasted 2.2IP after giving up 7R (5ER). Alex Footwangler pitched 4.1 innings giving up only 1R in his new role as a MR. Buddy Greenberg (5-9, 3.44) got a CG win giving up only 2R. Jimmy Ditty killed us going 5 for 5, 3R, 3RBI, 1DBL, 1HR for POG honors. For us, top batter was Carlton Affee going 2 for 5.

6/17 CHI @ DET: WIN 5-3 Hal Andrew (11-4, 3.37) gets POG for giving up only 3R in 8IP for the win. Stan Leveck (4.00, 1 Sv) got the save for pitching a hitless 9th. John Skoropat (6-7, 5.06) went the distance but gave up 5R for the loss. Top Sox batter was CF Homer Jewell who went 1 for 2, 1BB, 1DBL. For us, Carlton Affee went 1 for 1, 2R, 1RBI, 3BB. David Castaneda went 1 for 2, 1R, 1B.

6/19 CHI @ DET: loss 5-6 This game went 11 innings. Harley Melzer gave up 4R in 8.2IP. The loss went to Lloyd Wyman (3-2, 2.01) who gave up 2R in the final two innings. Lloyd had just been promoted from setup man to closer. I swear, the closer position has been a cursed position on our team for a few years. Johnny Gordley pitched well for CHI giving up only 2R in 8IP and was named POG. The win went to closer Corky Stell (5-3, 3.10) as he closed out the 10th. Top Sox batter was RF Boze Wealot who went 3 for 6, 1RBI. For us, Luther Ormiston went 3 for 5. Ray Kress hit a solo HR on his only hit of the day.

6/20 CHI @ DET: WIN 3-0 Bob Guilderson (7-4, 5.41) pitched 8.2 shutout innings for POG and the win. Stan Leveck (3.86, 2Sv) struck out the final batter for a save. Earl Boyd started for CHI but left after 2.2 IP due to elbow problems. 1B Ed Rossi (2 for 4) was the only hot Sox batter as we held them to 4 hits. For us, Matt Perly went 2 for 4, 1R, 1DBL. Bud Moore went 2 for 4, 2RBI. Carl Sandoz hit a solo HR for his only hit.

6/21 DET @ CLE: loss 1-4 Billy Crowell (14-5, 2.69) gave up 4R (2ER) in a CG loss... his second loss in a row. Sam Cole (6-10, 5.85) gave up only 1R in 8IP for the win and POG. 1B Ted Varner and C Fred Storey both went 2 for 4 for CLE. For us, top batters were Matt Perly and Bud Moore who both went 1 for 2, 2BB.

6/22 DET @ CLE: WIN 4-2 Hal Andrew (12-4, 3.24) got POG and the win for giving up only 1R in 8IP. Lloyd Wyman (2.23, 9Sv) got the save despite giving up a run in the 9th. George Kauffman (4-8, 4.48) went the distance but gave up 4R. SS Wilbur Taylor (2 for 2, 1BB, 1DBL) and 3B Emerson Meggs (2 for 4) were the top Indian batters. For us, Carlton Affee went 3 for 4, 1BB. Matt Perly went 2 for 4, 1R, 2DBL. Ray Kress hit a game winning 3R HR in the 9th for his only hit.

6/23 DET @ CLE: loss 1-4 Harley Melzer only allowed 1R in 7.1IP, but Stan Leveck (1-2, 4.66) gave up a run in the 8th and got the loss. Stan was a MR allstar last year, but not doing so well this year. Howie Leosh (5-5, 4.30) limited us to 1R and 3 hits for the win and POG honors. 1B Ted Varner (3 for 4, 2RBI, 1DBL) and RF Al Jackson (2 for 4, 1R, 1RBI, 1DBL) were top batters of the day. For us, Ray Kress and Matt Perly both went 1 for 3, 1BB.

6/24 WSH @ DET: loss 2-3 Another 11 inning game... Bob Guilderson gave up only 2R in 8.2IP. By the loss went to (no surprise... of course it was the closer) Lloyd Wyman (3-3, 2.36) as he was unable to hold in the 11th. Joe Homic (1-0, 4.50) pitched a hitless 10th & 11th for the win. POG honors went to 2B Ray Vlasik for going 3 for 4, 1R, 2RBI, 1HR. For us, top batter was Luther Ormiston who went 2 for 5, 1R, 2RBI, 1HR.

6/25 WSH @ DET: WIN 7-5 Billy Crowell (15-5, 2.85) wins despite giving up 5R in 7.2IP. He allowed no walks but 14 hits. Lloyd Wyman (2.29, 10Sv) pitched a scoreless 9th for the save. Zolly Schoeter (6-6, 4.18) also had a rough start giving up 6R in 4.2IP for the loss. Just about every WSH batter had a good day. RF Chris Anderson (3 for 5, 1R) , SS Hitman Crocitto (3 for 5, 1R, 1RBI) and SP Zolly Schoeter (2 for 3, 3RBI, 1TRPL) were tops. For us, Bud Moore went 4 for 4, 1R, 3RBI, 1HR for POG honors. Ray Kress went 2 for 4, 2R, 1BB. Rik the Greek Kaladimos went 2 for 3, 1R, 2BB. Roxie Ligget filled in at 2B and went 2 for 3, 1RBI, 1BB.

6/26 WSH @ DET: WIN 4-3 Hal Andrew (13-4, 3.25) got the win giving up 3R in 8IP. Mike Downey (4.97, 1Sv) got the save for pitching a scoreless 9th. Chris Frays (4-3, 5.48) went the distance but gave up 4R. Chris Anderson was top WSH batter going 2 for 3, 2R, 2RBI, 1BB, 1DBL, 1HR. For us, Carlton Affee went 2 for 4, 1R, 1RBI. Carl Sandoz went 2 for 4. Luther Ormiston hit a 3R HR with his only hit.

6/27 WSH @ DET: WIN 1-0 Harley Melzer (5-2, 2.72) pitched a 4 hit shutout for POG honors and the win. Red Finley (6-7, 2.94) allowed a 1st inning run but then settled down to pitch a CG 1R loss. Top WSH batter was Sugar McDonald who went 1 for 3, 1DBL. For us, only Harley Melzer had more than one hit... he went 3 for 3, 1DBL. The game winning run was Carl Sandoz who hit a double and then was immediately knocked home by another double from Ray Kress.

6/28 DET @ PHI: WIN 8-4 Bob Guilderson (8-4, 5.14) got the CG win giving up 4R. Ken Malia (5-4, 3.87) had a horrible start as we scored 2R in the first followed by 5 in the second off of him... he was pulled after that. Top A's batter was Peaches Badeau who went 2 for 3, 1R, 1RBI, 1BB, 1DBL. For us, Luther Ormiston went 2 for 5, 2R, 5RBI, 1DBL, 1HR for POG honors. Matt Perly went 2 for 5, 1R, 2RBI, 1DBL, 1HR. John Degal went 2 for 4, 1BB filling in at catcher. Ray Kress went 2 for 4, 2R, 1BB.

6/29 DET @ PHI: WIN 7-6 Billy Crowell (16-5, 2.98) continues to struggle but gets the win despite giving up 6R (5ER) in 8IP. Lloyd Wyman (2.25, 11Sv) got the save as he and Mike Downey combined for a scoreless 9th. Pops Gustafson (6-5, 4.41) gave up 7R in 7IP. Top A's hitter was C Hershel Lee who went 2 for 3, 1R, 1RBI, 1DBL. For us, Luther Ormiston gets his 3rd POG in 4 games. He hit a game willing 3R pinch hit HR in the 8th. Ray Kress went 2 for 4, 2R, 1RBI, 1BB. Bud Moore hit a solo HR for his only hit of the day. Pete Murovic subbed at 1B and went 1 for 2, 1RBI, 1BB.

6/30 DET @ PHI: loss 4-5 Hal Andrew gave up 4R in 8IP, but the loss went to Stan Leveck who gave up the game losing run in the 10th. C Matt Gazarek got POG for the A's going 1 for 3, 1R, 3RBI, 1BB, 1HR. LF Ed Monchak (2 for 3, 1DBL) and 3B Bud Ayers (2 for 4, 1R, 1BB, 1DBL) also hit well. For us, Carl Sandoz went 1 for 2, 2BB. Rik the Greek hit a 3R HR with his only hit.

STANDINGS
#1 in the AL, 8.5 games ahead of StL, 8-6 in the last two weeks.

BAD NEWS
-Billy Crowell is human after all. He had a crummy final two weeks in June in comparison to his back to back POM previous two months.
-Matt Perly had a terrible final week, but we faced a lot of lefties. I may need to tweak the depth chart to get Liggett in there more as he's hitting .344 off the bench.
-Most of our player development reports have been bad news lately. I'd sure like to see some good ones soon.

GOOD NEWS
-We lost no one else to injury and gained a game in the AL lead despite Billy having a bad couple of weeks.
-Luther Ormiston was named Player of the Week on 6/31 for hitting .375 in 24 AB, with 4 HR and 14 RBI.
-Harley Melzer continues our sweep of the POM awards going 3-0 in 6 games started, with an ERA of 1.29 and 1 shutouts in June.
-Ray Kress continues our sweep of BOM awards hitting .379 in 95 AB, with 9 homers and 24 RBI in June.
-Hal Andrew has been Mr. Reliable for most of this year so far.
-Bob Guilderson must of over heard me ask the pitching coaches to watch his pitch count as he put together a good couple of weeks.

7/1 THRU 7/15

7/1 BOS @ DET: WIN 8-7 This was a day of rest for a lot of our starters. Rollin Fish filled in at CF, Iggy Chenault in RF, Tom Hoelscher at SS, John Degal at C. Harley Melzer gave up 6R in 5.2IP. But we scored 3 in the 9th, giving Lloyd Wyman (4-3, 2.15) the win as he pitched a hitless final inning. 3B Tequila Allen (2 for 3, 1R, 2RBI, 1BB, 1HR) and 1B Bobby Johnson (2 for 4, 1R, 3RBI, 1HR) were the top Sox batters. For us, Matt Perly went 2 for 4, 2R, 1RBI, 1BB, 1HR for POG honors.

7/2 BOS @ DET: WIN 8-4 Bob Guilderson (9-4, 5.08) got the win giving up 4R in 8.2IP. Alter Sennelnekoff (2-1, 6.23) gave up 7R (6ER) in 4.1IP for the loss. SS Rusky Lutske (2 for 4, 1R, 1RBI, 1BB, 2DBL) and 3B Tequila Allen (1 for 3, 2R, 1RBI, 1BB, 1HR) were the top batters for BOS. For us, Carlton Affee was named POG for going 2 for 4, 1R, 3RBI, 1BB, 1TRPL. Tom Hoelscher went 2 for 4, 2R, 1RBI, 1DBL.

7/3 BOS @ DET: WIN 6-0 Billy Crowell (17-5, 2.83) pitched a 4 hit shutout for POG honors. Sonny Faulkner (10-12, 4.46) gave up 6R (3ER) in 7.2IP for the loss. A double by SS Rusky Lutske was the only highlight at the plate for the Sox. For us, Matt Perly went 2 for 3, 1R, 1RBI, 1DBL. Rollin Fish hit a 2R HR pinch hitting for Iggy Chennault who was filling in at LF to give Ray Kress a day off.

7/4 DET @ NYY: WIN 7-6 Hal Andrew (14-4, 3.42) had an off day giving up 6R (5ER) in 8IP, but still got the win. All six of those runs were scored in the 7th, but a 4 run rally by us in the 8th saved the day for Hal. Lloyd Wyman (2.09, 12Sv) pitched a hitless 9th for a save. Buddy Greenberg had pitched a decent game giving up 3R in 7IP, but Aaron Woertman (0-2, 6.75) gave up the game winning run. LF Turk Baker (2 for 4, 1R, 4RBI, 1HR) and C Gordon Meadows (2 for 4, 1R) were the top Yank batters. For us, Ray Kress was named POG for going 2 for 3, 3R, 3RBI, 2BB, 1DBL, 1HR. Luther Ormiston went 2 for 3, 1R, 2BB, 1DBL. Bud Moore went 2 for 4, 2RBI, 1BB. Matt Perly went 2 for 4, 1RBI, 1BB, 1DBL. Tom Hoelscher got his third start in a row at SS... I don't see anything on the injury report... I hope our gold glove Castaneda is OK.

7/5 DET @ NYY: loss 4-6 Dang Yanks (oops, sorry, habit). Harley Melzer (5-3, 3.26) gave up 4R in 7IP for the loss. Maury Baum (4-3, 4.59) go the win giving up 2R in 6IP. POG went to ex-Tiger C Vincent Solinger who went 2 for 3, 1R, 2RBI, 1HR. And, of course LF Turk Baker (2 for 4, 1R, 1BB) had a good game against us... he almost always does. For us, SP Hal Melzer was a perfect 3 for 3, 1RBI. Hal continues to hit well this season... currently at .324. Bud Moore went 2 for 3, 2R, 1RBI, 2BB, 1HR. David Castaneda went 2 for 3, 1R. Fish filled in again at CF and Iggy Chenault played RF as our corner OF's had been over due for some time off. Wally Cruce gave Rik the Greek a day off.

7/6 DET @ NYY: WIN 18-9 Bob Guilderson (10-4, 5.38) gave up 9R in 6.1IP but still got the win. Willie Dawkins (5-8, 5.11) also got roughed up a bit giving up 9R (7ER) in 6.1IP. A good chunk of our runs came in the 7th where we scored 10. 1B John Wilson (3 for 5, 1R, 3RBI), 3B Tim Dilworth (2 for 4, 1R, 1BB), RF Jimmy Ditty (2 for 4, 3R, 1RBI) all hit well for the Yanks. For us, Matt Perly was a monster going 3 for 6, 4R, 6RBI, 2HR (1 grand slam). Carl Sandoz went 4 for 6, 3R, 3RBI, 2DBL, 1HR. Iggy Chenault went 2 for 3, 2R, 2RBI.

7/7 DET @ NYY: WIN 2-1 Billy Crowell (18-5, 2.75) gave up only 1R in 8.1IP for the win and POG. Chief Harrington (10-5, 2.85) also pitched well giving up only 2R in a CG loss. John Wilson was the top Yank batter going 2 for 4, 1DBL. For us, Luther Ormiston went 2 for 3. But the game winning shot came compliments of a 9th inning 2R HR by Ray Kress.

7/10 AL @ NL: WIN 9-5 I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that eight of our players were named to the Allstar game. Ray Kress started in LF and hit in the #3 spot. He was a perfect 4 for 4, 2R, 3RBI, 1BB, 2DBL. Luther Ormiston was named POG thanks to a clutch HR in each of the final two innings. He started at 3B and batted in the #5 spot. He went 2 for 6, 2R, 4RBI, 2HR. Hal Andrew was the first relief pitcher. He allowed no runs in the 4th, but 2 in the fifth. Our closer Lloyd Wyman finished the final two innings and got the win. He allowed 1 run in the 9th, but none in the 10th. One of Luthers HRs was a solo shot in the 9th. The other was a 3R HR in the 10th. Matt Perly came off the bench to play some 2B and went 1 for 3, 1R. Carlton Affee also subbed in at CF, but went 0 for 3. Billy Crowell & Bob Guilderson were on the team, but got no play.

7/12 DET @ PHI: WIN 9-2 --Can't see a box score on this game-- Hal Andrew gave up only 2R in a CG win. Rik the Greek Kaladimos got POG for going 2 for 4, 1R, 5RBI, 1HR. We held the A's to 2 hits.

7/13 DET @ PHI: WIN 6-4 Harley Melzer gave up 4R in 8.2IP. All four of the A's runs were scored in the 9th. Mike Downey (7-1, 4.75) closed out the 9th and got the win as we scored 2 in the 10th. Lloyd Wyman (2.04, 13Sv) pitched a scoreless 10th for a save. Ellis Weeks started for PHI and gave up 4R in 9IP. Pops Gustafson (6-7, 4.63) gave up a run in the 10th for the loss. RF Hershel Cooley (3 for 4, 1BB, 1DBL) and SS Bob Moussette (2 for 4, 1R, 4RBI, 1 GrandSlam). For us, Rollin Fish got POG honors going 2 for 2, 2R, 3RBI, 1HR. Iggy Chenault had played half the game in LF, but then Fish came in to play the second half. Matt Perly went 3 for 5, 2RBI.

7/14 DET @ PHI: loss 4-6 Bob Guilderson (10-5, 5.40) gave up 6R (5ER) in 7.2IP for the loss. I'm still trying to figure out why Bob was named to the allstar team this year. Harold Sundin (3-2, 4.20) gave up 4R in 8IP for a win. Bud Ayers was the top A's batter and POG going 2 for 3, 1R, 3RBI, 1BB, 1HR. For us, Carlton Affee went 4 for 5, 2RBI. Bob Guilderson went 2 for 4, 1R, 1RBI, 1DBL.

7/15 BOS @ DET: WIN 3-2 Billy Crowell gave up only 2R in 8.2IP but this one went 10 innings. Lloyd Wyman (5-3, 1.99) pitched a scoreless 10th for the win. Alter Sennelnekoff started for BOS and gave up 2R in 6.2IP. The loss went to Cort Nagel (1-1, 3.38) who gave up the winning run in the 10th. LF Buster Myer was top hitter going 3 for 4. For us, Bud Moore got POG honors goin 2 for 5, 1R, 2RBI, 1HR.

STANDINGS
61-30, #1 in the AL, 12 games ahead of StL, 9-2 in the last 11.

BAD NEWS
-Several fielders were battling fatigue so that required our bench to step up and fill in during a good part of schedule.
-Bob Guilderson continues to struggle and I will have to get serious about having him pulled a little sooner in games.

GOOD NEWS
-9-2 is a nice run despite the roster chaos.
-Billy Crowell started pitching well again. On 7/8 he was named Player of the Week winning 2 games, with one shutout, 0.52 ERA
-As mentioned above, 8 Tigers were on the allstar team this year.

STANDINGS
69-38, #1 overall, 11.5 games ahead of Boston in the AL, 8-8 in the last two weeks

BAD NEWS
-Billy Crowell strained a bicep tendon and will be less than 100% for a good part of next month. This injury seems to be affecting his control and that worries me a lot.
-Bob Guilderson and Hal Andrew combined for 0-5, in 8 starts during the second half of July. In about half those games, lack of run support could be most to blame.
-Matt Perly had a couple monster games, but only hit in 3 of his last 10.
-Bud Moore's power rating took a hit, but he's also been struggling to make contact. I had real high hopes for him this year, but lately he's been underachieving.
-Our sweeps of the POM and BOM awards both came to an end, but we couldn't expect it to last forever.

GOOD NEWS
-Our AL lead is still double digits. We lost half a game, but given our pitching woes and a lul in the offense, losing only half a game is an accomplishment.
-Luther Ormiston and Ray Kress continue to battle for BOY award. They do have some very serious competition outside of our organization and there's still a couple of months left. But, it sure is fun to watch them push each other day after day.
-Ray Kress is having another awesome season in LF. 0 errors thus far this season after committing only 1 error total in the previous two seasons.
-Also, Ray Kress was also named Player of the Week on 7/22 for hitting .462 in 26 AB, with 3 HR and 9 RBI.
-David Castaneda stepped it up just when I thought the law of averages had caught up with him. He's got his average back up to .291 which is much higher than his normal .242.

ROSTER MOVES
-We lost MR Steven Brown to the A's via waivers. We wish him the best of luck with them... just not when we play them of course
-Carlton Affee seems to be deteriorating more and more quickly as he approaches his 38th birthday. I'm going to have to give Rollin Fish the starting nod in CF against lefties for the remainder of this year. Affee seems to want a new contract, but unless he can turn things around, he'd be better off retiring. Iggy Chenault will have to be primary backup at LF and RF against lefties. John Degal may get a little time in at 3B if Iggy is forced to spend more time in the OF. A call up for Mitchell isn't out of the question either.

STANDINGS
78-42, #1 overall, 12.5 games ahead of Boston, 9-4 in the last 13

BAD NEWS
-Carl Sandoz (usually a .320+ hitter) is hitting a dismal .278. But hopefully, he's was just saving up for a strong finish for the year as he has done in the past.
-So far, the move to bring up Degal has shown no progress. But maybe this ML experience will inspire him to have a much stronger spring training.

GOOD NEWS
-We gained a game in our AL lead.
-We had a lot of extra inning games, but luckily, our Pen did a good job in holding on for some wins.
-Hal Andrew had been on a 0-4, 5 game stretch, but then won 3 consecutive POG awards giving up only 4R in 3 games.

Had to cut this update short as I'm having a real busy week.

Tom Hoelscher filled in at SS and went 2 for 4, 1R, 1TRPL.

8/17 BOS @ DET: loss 4-8 Bob Guilderson (11-8, 4.85) gave up 8R (7ER) in 6.2IP for the loss. Alter Sennelnekoff (7-2, 4.19) got the win giving up 4R in 8IP. We out hit Boston 15 to 8, but out errored them 2 to 1.

8/18 BOS @ DET: WIN 2-0 Billy Crowell (22-7, 3.05) got POG for a CG shutout. Cort "Muscles" Nagel also pitched well giving up only 5 hits and 2R in a CG loss. Cort also went 2 for 3 at the plate and his hitting .500 this year. Our top batter was Rollin Fish who went 2 for 4, 1R. Ray Kress hit a 2R HR with his only hit of the day.

8/19 DET @ StL: WIN 3-0 Hal Andrew pitched 8.2 shut out innings for POG, but this game went 11 innings. Mike Downey (11-3, 4.58) subbed for Hal and pitched 1.1 no hit innings. Lloyd Wyman (1.92, 14Sv) finished the 11 inning shutout by pitching a hitless 11th. Eugene Sprecher also had an awesome game allowing only 3 hits, 0 walks, 0 runs in 9IP. But Herman Curoe (1-8, 7.32) blew the hold. We scored all of our runs in the 11th compliments of a Ray Kress 3R HR... he went 2 for 5, 1R, 3RBI, 1DBL, 1HR. We out hit StL 5 to 3. This was a nice pitchers dual until that 11th inning.

8/20 DET @ StL: WIN 11-6 Harley Melzer (9-5, 3.61) got the win despite giving up 6R in 7IP. Buster Davis (2-1, 3.33) got hammered early and was pulled after giving 8R (5 in the 1st) in 3IP. His double followed a PH double by John Degal. John's Double had knocked in the game winning run. Roxie Ligget filled in at 2B and went 2 for 3, 1R.

8/23 DET @ CHI: loss 0-2 Another pitchers dual. Hal Andrew (17-9, 3.20) gave up only 2R in a CG loss. Earl Boyd (6-11, 3.95) threw a 4 hit, 1 walk CG shutout for the win and POG honors. Top Sox batter was RF Stu Cripps (2 for 3, 1R, 1BB, 2DBL) and SS Rex Seelinger (2 for 3). For us, Ray Kress went 2 for 4, but got no help.

8/24 DET @ CHI: loss 4-7 Harley Melzer (9-6, 3.62) only allowed 3 hits, but unfortunately 7 walks and 3R in 7IP for the loss. Stretch Bussmann (20-8, 3.33) pitched 8 shut out innings for the win and POG. John Skoropat gave up 4R in the 9th, but we were too far behind for that to matter. 1B Edward Rossi (3 for 5, 1R, 2EBI) and 2B Tony Seats (2 for 3, 1R, 1RBI, 1BB, 1HR) were the top Sox batters. For us, the biggest highlight was yet another clutch PH effort for John Degal. This time a 2R HR.

8/25 DET @ CHI: loss 4-7 Swept in Chicago. Bob Guilderson (11-10, 4.92) had another rough game giving up 7R (6ER) in 7.1IP. Corky Stell (12-7, 3.24) gave up 3R in 7IP for the win. George Bowers had given up 3R in 8IP. But the loss went to Joe Koppenmeier who gave up 3R in the 10th compliments of a Luther Ormiston HR. 1B Albert Hippard was top hitter for CLE going 2 for 4, 1BB. For us, Rollin Fish went 2 for 4, 1R. David Castaneda and C John Degal both went 2 for 4. But of course, Luther Ormiston was POG for going 2 for 4, 2R, 5RBI, 1BB, 2HR.

8/27 CLE @ DET: WIN 11-2 Hal Andrew (18-9, 3.17) gave up 2R in 8.2IP for the win and POG. George Kauffman (6-18, 6.29) got the hook after giving up 8R (3ER) in 3.2IP... 3 errors early in the game were most responsible for their loss. CLE 1B Albert Hippard and 3B Emerson Meggs had identical stat lines (2 for 4, 1R, 1RBI, 1HR). For us, Rik the Greek went 3 for 5, 1R. Ray Kress hit a solo HR with his only hit of the day. Luther Ormiston went 1 for 2, 2R, 1RBI, 3BB, 1HR. Hal Andrew hit a 2R TRPL with his only hit.

8/28 CLE @ DET: WIN 7-6 A 3rd inning hour long rain delay was a factor on this game. Harley Melzer pitched 4.2 shutout innings. Alex Footwangler (2-2, 7.89) got the win despite pitching a 1R 8th. Lloyd Wyman (16Sv, 1.86) pitched a scoreless 9th for a save. Charley Nagel gave up 3R in the first 2.2 IP before getting the hook. 8/29 day off

8/30 CHI @ DET: WIN 1-0 Bob Guilderson (12-10, 4.74) got POG and the win pitching a CG shutout. Corky Stell (12-8, 3.10) pitched better than Bob, but gave up 1R in a CG loss. Top Sox batter was CF Homer Jewell who went 2 for 3, 1BB. For us, it was David Castaneda who went 2 for 3. The game winning run was knocked in by Bud Moore.

8/31 CHI @ DET: WIN 1-0 Billy Crowell pitched 5 scoreless innings giving up only 2hits and 2 walks for POG and the win. Alex Footwangler, Mike Downey, and Lloyd Wyman (17Sv, 1.82) combined completed the shutout. Johnny Gordley pitched 4 shutout innings, but Tim Knapp (0-1, 2.35) was unable to hold. Once again, an hour long rain delay was a factor. Both teams were held to 3 hits. Top batter for the day was Bud Moore who went 1 for 2, 1BB.

STANDINGS
88-47, #1 overall, 14 games ahead of Boston in the AL, 10-5 in the last 15

BAD NEWS
-Not really any bad news right off the top of my head... a few batters had a quiet month and our starters have missed out on some wins due to rain delays interrupting their starts.

GOOD NEWS
-Carl Sandoz kicked it into gear like I had hoped and got his average back up near .300.
-We got most of our players back from injury.

SEPTEMBER CALL UPS
-Isaac Mitchell has been called up to provide depth in the OF
-Steven Zucal has been called up to provide depth in the IF and give us a pinch runner that we very much need.

Sounds like a party is int he works. According to the majic number, you clinched the pennant sometime back in late August as the Sox and the Browns arent anywhere near you.

So i've gotta ask, who are you looking more foreward to meeting in the finals.....the Phillies, or the Cards?

I made the observation that I had swept the first three BOM awards and the first three POM awards and then didn't win one after.

So, I'm not real eager to comment on a World Series possibility unless it is 100% clinched. Things look good, but ya never know.

At least this gives me a reason to get my lazy butt out of bed on time tomorrow as I will be eager to see how things finish up.

Both the Phillies and the Cardinals look strong.

But, I think the Phillies are a bit more dangerous. They look like they've got a stronger set of starters as well as more power in their lineup. But that's just at a casual glance. I haven't had the time to really study either team.

makes sense, they've also got momenteum on their side and this weird ass aura about them, its' like the Yankees of this generation IRL......they have this aura of that they can pull a RABBIT out of their ass and poof, instant winning streak.

And Id' liek to think that my trade will offer some help too (but dont bet on it)

FINAL STANDINGS
102-52, #1 overall, 14-5 in September

BAD NEWS
-Billy Crowell has picked a bad time to go into a funk.. 1-3 in his last 4 and that 1 win was due to a ton of run support - not because he pitched well. Hopefully, he'll get pumped up for the World Series.
-Harley Melzer has also been a bit inconsistant lately while Bob Guilderson has been fairly solid. I'm not 100% sure who deserves the spot. Harley is a much better hitter, he hold runners better and is due for a hot streak on the mound. But Bob has looked good lately. I'm leaning towards going with Harley and making Bob the #1 setup guy.

GOOD NEWS
-102 wins and a World Series appearance.
-Our active roster is 100% heathy.
-Ray Kress finished the month (and the year - 146 games) without a single error in LF
-Ray Kress was named Player of the Week on 9/16 for hitting .462 in 26 AB, with 2 HR and 8 RBI.
-Luther Ormiston finshed the month with a lot of heavy hitting and will hopefully ride that momentum in the Series.
-Hal Andrew has been awsome this month. He went 4-0 in 5 starts and gave up no earned runs in that one non-decision. In the last 10 games, he's gotten 7 POG awards. With as hot as he has been, I gotta consider him for the ace spot going into the World Series.

Just like to say good luck Goose

I am analyzing your team right now...

Pitching strategy seems to be moot, since I am sure this will be one of the highest scoring WS of all time...

Here is a little side bet for you and I

Who will hit more HRs?

Arrendale, Misisca, Rauch
or Kress, Ormiston and Perly?

and whose your 3rd starter?

Melzer, Gulderson or Downey for the payback factor?
