OK, first off, OOTP 6 will still be supported as long as it is the latest iteration of the series. That means updates/patches for 1 1/2 years...
![]() As far as the SI OOTP goes, the SI folks are really really nice, and I have total creative freedom. Of course, I will try to add as many aspects from CM (now FM) to OOTP, while also maintaining the current feature set. I love customization, and I will do the best I can to ensure that the next OOTP will be as customizable as possible. The game will benefit greatly from the knowledge of SI. Heck, their code base is so awesome, I have never seen something like this before. It'll definitely get OOTP to the next level. And in order to be able to benefit from the technology, most of the game will be re-written, based on the SI technology (GUI, database etc.). |

I can even imagine a network of online leagues. Imagine League A running a Major League, League B comprised of the AAA clubs for league A, League C is AA, etc. Joe |

Wow. Big news this morning. I think this has the potential to be really good, or really bad, depending on how things go.
Markus, it sounds like you have access to many more possibilities than in the past, which is good. It's just that those of us who've grown to love OOTP don't want to see customization and variability sacrificed for the sake of a shiny interface, graphics and an MLB license. Obviously, any of this that could be added (save the MLB license, which I'm fairly confident in saying about 90% of the community opposes) without losing customization is great. Either way, good luck! It looks like a world of possibilities has been opened.....

I've got mixed feelings on the merger in general, but I just wanted to add my voice in saying that if the game gets any kind of MLB or MLBPA license, I won't be buying new versions.

I tried to post over at the SI board and am told I can not because my registration has not yet been approved. Is there a wait period? I followed the instructions from my confirmation email.

As for the Beer, England may not have the same sort of selection as Germany or Belgium (my personal favorites) but they do have some fine brews. Much better than the standard here in the US. I hate going to the ballpark and having to walk halfway around the stadium to get to where the REAL beer is! I think the vendors should walk around with a keg strapped to their back serving up Sam Adams or Bass or a nice Newcastle! Joe |

I'm going to post this here since I know it won't be seen where it's at...
I don't know if I like this. As it stands now, SI games are only available for purchase on CD. They do not have DL's available, and as much as I love Markus and trust in the game that he puts out, to wait until the end of 2005 for another OOTP title is quite a wait, and as much as I love the current edition, I don't know if it will hold me over until the offseason of next season.

This has been a very interesting morning. I've been reading posts in about 4 different text-sim forums to gauge the response to this announcement. Each forum has their own take. The SI forums seem to be complaining about adding another "American" game and not focusing on making FM (therefore ruining "their" game). Here everyone is worried about the loss of customization and MLB licenses and it ruining "their" game. Can't we all just get along!
Some of you have been complaining about the treatment you have received posting in the SI forums. I think some of that is justified, but not all of it. I don't think you have anything to worry about with a movement of the OOTP forums. Ever since EHM was added to the SI product line, I have been following it's development in the EHM forums (I see the future OOTP forums there being quite similar). Aside from the occasional "interloper" coming in and asking why SI would be developing a hockey game, the EHM forums have their own group of dedicated followers. I think the same sort of thing will happen with the OOTP forums. |

This is great news. I'm confident that this is the right decision for the OOTP series. I mean, do you think Markus would move to a different country if it wasn't?
Congratulations to everyone involved. |
