When viewing players (on our own team, in the draft, free agency, from another team's roster), do it through the eyes of our scout only.
I AGREE 110%

This is the main thing(IMO) that needs to be fixed. I was unaware of this and payed a lot for a Legendary scout and found it useless since when looking at other players it is from the other teams scout

Export Play by Play

The thing I'd most like to see is a way to export the in-game play by play into a text or html file.

I really like to run play by play for important games in our league (All-Star Game, Futures Game, important playoff games), but it takes a while and I can never include all the info the pbp offers. Having something that exports the pbp comments into a text file would enable me to do games easily, maybe even doing a Game of the Week with an important matchup.

This was something that was mentioned as a possibility way back in OOTP4. It'd be really nice to eventually have it.

In the future, the ability for the league owners to download and update the file from inside the game would be awesome.

Would be tough as that would mean having to upload the files, unzipped, to the server. Our players.data is over 50MB right now. Not something I'd want full blown on my server.

yeah i know. Just throwing out a suggestion.

I dont know anything about prgramming but in my perfect world, we would still upload the file zipped to the server. In the ONLINE LEAGUE OPTIONS the commish would put the path to the file. You click a button and OOTP would unzip the file into the correct folder.

Like I said, PERFECT WORLD. I'd imagine there's some way to have it happen but I'm not holding my breath.

First off, I want to hop on the play-by-play bandwagon. seeing this happen for online leagues would be pretty darn cool.

Second, on top of the contract extension problems(let me hear your offer), how about during Free Agency putting in each players last contract information so you can at least take a valid shot at what players should make.

Third:

I would love for a way to customize your bullpen to take advantage of an A duration releiver that you wanna have close games. Make him eligible for 2 inning saves or what have you. Always feel like Im wasting him if hes put at closer.
clarnzz:
couldn't you just put your closer in the setup role as well? I know it's not exactly the same - and i've never tested it - but perhaps it's something to look into

When looking at the "Breaking News" html, the latest news is at the top... any way that can be done for ALL reports... injuries, general news, transactions, etc?? Would make it a lot more user friendly... plus it looks better

Couple of Quick Ideas

First off man that was a long read... A couple of patch type items I would like to see are:

1. Team strategies be protected... I don't believe this is for everyone to see... Protect it like Team Setup...

2. I love the delete email idea

3. In FA I've noticed a small loop hole in making offers... Currently if you make an offer then check the Current Offers page you can see whether or not you have made the best offer immediately... I think a solution to this would be to not do anything with the offer until the 'Process Day' button is pressed... and since it's password protected only the commish would be doing this after he/she imports...

4. One final one I've been pleaing for is that on the trade screen instead of password protecting the 'offering team' button protect the 'complete trade' button... I ask for this for leagues that have computer and human GM's and this would allow GM's to formulate a trade and then submit it to the commish...

Thanks for your time and work Markus/Scott and any other OOTP team mates...

How about a comments/notes section on the Team Setup screen where we can write notes about our team.

We could record many team specific things here...

1. Trade/Contract offers that failed.

2. I'd love to use that area to record the last game date each sim. This would allow me to easily read only the last sims boxscores.

Probably a million other things that can be stored here too.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, didn't have time to sort through all the posts.

What I think would be GREAT is an addition to the trade block that allows you not only to put your guys on the block, but also an area where you can tell people what you want in return . . .

For example, maybe a drop and drag where you could pull up a position or attribute into a "For" box.

Would help facilitate trading in online leagues . . . you could put a player on the block and drag over into a "For" box something like "RH3B, Power" or "LHSP" - when it comes to hitters, the position and the rating (power, steals, fielding etc) could be maybe be dragged up separately?

May be too hard, but I think it would be a sweet addition.

Something I would like

I may have missed this suggestion because I didn't read all 3,000 posts in this thread , but I would like the ability to resign coaches/scouts during the season like players are resigned.

This has been asked for many times but just don't see it happenig due to teams/leagues being able to "lock" other teams out esstentially of getting good coaches by simply continuing to extend their contract. Wouldn't think it is coming. Sorry.

A lot of leagues online don't even use coaches/scouts. And I like the idea of not being locked out of the excellent coaches.. I want my shot at them too.

I do not get how this is any different than a team being able to 'lock up' an excellent player for long term. Make it costly to lock up coaches to long term deals (or at least in some situations, maybe not for winners or such).. where a team has to weigh the risk of letting them go to the offseason to get them at 'fair market value' or not. Or they can lock them up long term at a projected above market rate...

Its a shame there are so many issues with coaches and online leagues (alot having to do with scouts), that we can't start fixing some of them. This would be one nice thing to resolve. I guess I always saw this as something that needed fixing, now it is sounding like OOTP prefers it this way?

I don't see many online leagues start to use coaches in the future without some changes to how they function.

I don't see many online leagues start to use scouts in the future without dramatic changes to how they function. Without a complete rewrite of the scout logic in OOTP I'd prefer that leagues at least be given a choice between using scouts and using coaches. That way they could at least take advantage of the coach feature. As far as I have seen the OOTP coach logic does not have the obvious problems of the OOTP scouts.

I’m very happy to see this thread - thank you very much for asking. I have several suggestions, some of which I assume have already been offered.

EXPORT/IMPORT
1) Cut orders – thanks!
2) Off-season FA: With team passwords on, after each round an owner should only be able to see the response of players to HIS TEAM'S bids. At present, we can still see who the leading bidder is. This would allow the commish to export a file after each FA round without revealing anything, and would allow all of FA to be done by export/import.
3) Draft list export – speaks for itself.
4) Extension offer export. The important aspect of this is that the player doesn’t actually accept or reject the offer until the commish (with the league password) gives the command – that way the owners can’t cheat it.
5) In-season FA offers.
6) Promotions.

FINANCES – small thing – make the $5 mil minimum cash optional. In an online league, I have to edit this every year, b/c the minimum would allow owners to be completely irresponsible.

TRADING – options for cash in trades and picks in trades

SCOUTING
1) Fix the scouts’ perspectives as many have suggested in detail – in sum, the owner should not be able to view any player anywhere except through his scout’s eyes.
2) Separate out the “use scouts” option from the “use coaches and managers” option.

TEAM MANAGEMENT
1) New lineup/depth chart system. Many suggestions have been made on this topic. I think there are a few good ways to improve this. The biggest problem, IMO, is the inability to say, e.g., “Make Jones my regular LF and Smith my regular RF, but when Smith is tired, move Jones to RF and put Johnson in LF.” This used to be possible, in a very roundabout way, with the old depth chart system.
2) More specific relief roles. From what I hear, the new lefty/righty strategy setting doesn’t really work, b/c the lefty will stay in to face righties. There should be a true restriction, in individual player strategy settings, on facing either lefties or righties. It would be even nicer to have other restrictions based on inning or run differential, such as “do not use when run differential is more than [enter number],” etc. Obviously, these would be overridden in desperate situations.

PLAYER VIEWERS (not sure this is online-specific)
1) Career stats.
2) L/R splits for all ratings – i.e., on the list with “general ratings,” etc., would be “batting ratings v.R.”
3) Player searching based on L/R splits.

Forgot this important thing:

Put the player report htmls in a separate folder, away from the box scores, etc. When zipping legues, it takes some effort to separate out the necessary files from the fluff, and it makes a huge difference in file size.

Markus,
Would it be possible to have it so that when you delete player e-mails, after exporting / importing, they're still gone?

One more: On the player strategies, the bars need to have more of an impact. I'm thinking in particular of pinch running - on the lowest, I've still seen the AI pinch run in situations where I'd never consider it for a moment. I've seen this in exhibition games - I'm not sure the team strategies apply there.
