Just a few mostly Cubs-related things:

Do you think that Adbert Alzolay should get his ratings bumped up? I know that the ratings are based on preseason projections, but part of ZiPS's issue with him is that it still projects him to make a lot of starts. I think if it had him as a full-time reliever his metric projections would be much better. Plus he's been fantastic since he moved to the bullpen.

David Bote's fielding should probably get bumped up. Both UZR and DRS have generally liked him at 2B/3B, and in the game right now he's borderline unplayable at both spots.

Eric Hosmer, conversely, probably should get his defensive ratings lowered. Metrics have never liked him, and a lot of the narrative of him being a good fielder is due to managers constantly voting him into Gold Gloves solely because he's good at digging out low throws. When you only see a player a handful of times a year, and you have more pressing things to think about during a game, it's a little easier to notice that than it is to accurately gauge how much range a fielder has.

With the new shift rules, do you think some players' BABIP ratings should get tweaked, at least on an ad hoc basis? It's still early, but a few guys like Anthony Rizzo and Carlos Santana seem to really be benefitting from the new rules.

Sorry, missed these when you first posted them. The Cubs stuff makes sense. On the BABIP ratings, will probably watch how things play out a bit longer but it does seem reasonable that we'll end up making some adjustments here too.

The exit velocities off that kid's bat are unreal. Looking at the Reds prospects make me think there actually might be some good times ahead.

Who am I kidding...as soon as they're in arbitration they'll trade the talent away again.

I played 20 seasons (starting in 1977). I saved the game as a template (set in 1996). I started a new game using the template in 1997. For some reason all of the players were duplicated, except for the age (the first is one year older than the second) and, therefore, the ratings can slightly differ. In the game it is 1998, Jim Thome appears as 28 in one version and 27 in the other. All the players and their dopplegangers have the same age range difference. I'm a former programmer, now a college professor, but without seeing the code I'm clueless how to solve this bug. Hope you can help. Thank you in advance!

Miguel Cabrera's contract is still wrong in the latest beta. Next year is a team option which I assure you the Tigers won't be extending. While the AI almost ALWAYS has him retire (even every time I played 22), let's not leave the possibility open he wants a 2nd farewell tour!

Technically it is a vesting option but not one with a criteria OOTP can model.

Dang, you're right. The 2 sites I had looked to before had simplified it, which the game did last year (smartly I think). I appreciate the correction. But still don't think he should have the option to play despite promises haha.

I hear ya. I think OOTP could maybe change it to a vesting option with 150 games or something. Though that's easier than the actual trigger of a Top Ten MVP finish. But as one that tends to play teams not named Tigers and knowing such a vesting option existed, it'd be a fun game within the game to watch and see if Detroit accidently gets him to 150 games and is on the hook for another $30M :P

Flagging a couple of minor Red Sox issues (checked against today's update) for whenever the next chance is to tweak the rosters. Thanks for all you do!

1) Inmer Lobo still appears in the Sox system — he was traded to Pittsburgh for Hoy Park late last year.
2) Johnfrank Salazar has been converted to a full-time catcher — may want to give him an inkling of that in his ratings (he's got a 2 for catcher ability & arm at the moment).
3) Freddy Valdez has been converted from an outfielder to a pitcher.
4) Osvaldo De La Rosa, Blake Loubier, Eduardo Vaughan, Bryan Lucas, B.J. Vela, Helison Mota, Alex Zapete, Jose Mendez, Carlos Mendoza, Jhon Garcia, Cesar Soto, and Henry Nunez have all been released from the organization.

Other than maybe Valdez, these are all correct in our db.

Are you seeing this in a live start?

Where there might end up being an issue there is with the data we get from our data provider, if that's somehow out of date.

That's unfortunately not something we can directly fix. We can maybe look into some ways to get around this though, and use the correct data from our db.

Yep, this is all based on a live start (from today). Understandable if nothing can be done — just figured I'd flag. Thanks!

Couple more Card notes

1. James Naile, Jojo Romero, Drew Verhagen, and Jake Walsh should prolly get a small boost. Nothing too drastic but they are perfectly fungible relievers and don't deserve a 20/20. I'd argue they at least deserve 30-35 overall at least with Romero and VerHagen closer to 35-40

2. Matt Liberatore should prolly get a small velocity boost to 93-95 as he is routinely hits 95 even into the later innings

3. I'd prolly switch Nick Raposo and Pedro Pages ratings. Pages has borderline backup C potential and strong Defensive numbers while Raposo is likely just org depth

4. I know 80 grades should be extremely rare but I have to think Masyn Winn and even non Cardinal O'Neill Cruz should have 80 grade arms. And Victor Scott should have at least 75 speed)stealing ability as he is currently tied for minor league stolen base lead.

This is good feedback, thanks!

1. Verhagen was rated as a primary SP, which resulted in the lower overall as an RP. I switched him to be a pure RP and reworked his ratings. I tweaked Romero and Naile a bit, though it didn't boost their ovr super much. Walsh looks good as is imo, so left him there.

2. Brooks has him averaging 95 on his fb, so he definitely deserves a boost.

3. Made some tweaks here.

4. Both are already very much on the border of having 80-grade arms (which is likely deserved). I boosted both a bit more. Wynn hits 80 now, Cruz is at 75. Scott's speed numbers were indeed a touch low. Tweaked them too. He's the sort of guy that might see even a bigger jump next year.

I'm playing around with a save that was created on a earlier version of 24, so maybe this has been caught already? but in the Frontier league, the Gateway Grizzlies' pitcher Zac Treece shows up in searches twice. the unretired one has his 2014 stats, the retired version has the rest of his real life stats. Just thought I'd share this in case anyone hadn't seen it yet

I am not seeing any duplicates in the database, can you check with an updated version? He should be a free agent since he did not make the opening day roster once the roster set that reflects the opening day rosters for the Indy Leagues is included in a build (which it may already be).

It looks like he got confused with another person with the same name.

santan003cri is the Tigers prospect and should be in Lakeland but he is on the Indy Ferryhawks (you can't find him if you didn't load US Indy Leagues). The one on the Ferryhawks should be santan002cri

I fixed that today, I added the wrong Santana to the FerryHawks (had multiple tabs open and moved the wrong one) when doing the Indy League rosters, it should be fixed when they push the next patch out with roster updates.

Until then, you should be able to move him from the FerryHawks back to Lakeland.

* If you look at the FerryHawks official website, they have the wrong bio of their Santana, they have the bio for the Tigers prospect, not the actual one that plays for them
