The Twins and the Cardinals remain on top of the power rankings. The amazing Marlins, led by .397-hitting Miguel Rojas, have won five in a row and are on top in the NL East. Mike Trout leads the league with 4.6 WAR (.329/.472/.640), while Shane Bieber has 4.4 on the mound (9-1, 1.36 ERA, 120 K, 7 BB).

Gleyber Torres won the AL Player of the Week, getting 12 hits in 23 at-bats, and four home runs. Victor Robles had 13 hits to win the NL award.

News:

There were two trades today. The embattled Chris Archer was traded to the Yankees for three minor prospects. Archer struggled to a 2-7 record and 5.47 ERA this season, leaving him with an ERA over 5 for his Pirates career.

The second trade saw Garrett Richards return to the Angels in exchange for Luiz Gohara and a minor leaguer. The oft-injured Richards had a 2.08 ERA in 14 starts this season, while Gohara has only pitched in the minors this year.

Cubs 2, Phillies 0. Alec Mills pitched eight strong inning, allowing just three hits and no walks and striking out seven while holding the Phillies scoreless. Albert Almora Jr. hit a two-run double to account for all the scoring.

Mets 4, Cardinals 3. The Cardinals tied the score in the eighth with a home run off the bat of Kolten Wong, but J.D. Davis answered right back with another homer in the bottom of the inning. Davis reached base three times and drove in three on the day.

Yankees 8, Royals 4. Gary Sanchez and Brett Gardner homered as the Yankees beat the Royals. Jonathan Loaisiga struck out ten in 4 2/3 innings, but Deivi Garcia got the win with two scoreless innings in which he struck out all six batters he faced. The Yankees struck out 18 Royals hitters overall.

Orioles 4, Twins 1. The worst team in baseball beat the best on a walk-off grand slam by Jose Iglesias. The hit ruined eight innings of shutout ball by Jose Berrios.

Blue Jays 6, Mariners 1. Teoscar Hernandez had three hits, including a home run, and drove in three for the Blue Jays. Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed one run over eight innings for the win.

Red Sox 17, Rays 0. Andrew Benintendi drove in nine runs as the Red Sox thoroughly demolished the Rays. Benintendi had four hits, including two bases-clearing doubles and a three-run homer. Christian Vazquez and Jose Peraza had three hits apiece. Nathan Eovaldi struck out nine in eight innings for the win.

Tigers 5, Athletics 2. Christin Stewart started the Tigers' scoring with a two-run double in the first inning, and the club had a five-run lead by the end of the second. Casey Mize went five innings for the win.

White Sox 6, Indians 5. This was a back-and-forth game that saw six lead changes. Tim Anderson drove in the game-winning run in the seventh with a single. Yasmani Grandal had a three-run homer for the White Sox.

Astros 5, Rangers 1. Michael Brantley drove in the go-ahead run with a double in the eighth inning, and Abraham Toro capped off the inning with a two-run home run. Lances Lynn and McCullers Jr. both pitched well neither one got a decision.

Angels 3, Marlins 2. Shohei Ohtani tied the game with a home run in the fourth inning, and later put the Angels ahead with a sac fly in the eighth inning. Ty Buttrey got the win in relief, and Kyle Keller the save.

Phillies 10, Cubs 9 (10 innings). Javier Baez hit a three-run homer in the top of the ninth, and Victor Caratini followed up with an RBI single two batters later that tied the score at eight. Baez struck again with a double in the tenth, but the Phillies struck back in the tenth when five straight batters reached base in the bottom of the inning against Craig Kimbrel, capped off by a walk-off single by Bryce Harper.

Mets 2, Cardinals 1 (13 innings). The game was tied at 1-1 after four innings, and it stayed that way until Brandon Nimmo hit a walk-off triple in the thirteenth. The Mets bullpen threw seven innings of shutout baseball, capped off Robert Gsellman, who got the win.

Reds 7, Dodgers 4. The Reds got home runs from Josh VanMeter, Eugenio Suarez and Mike Moustakas in the win. Sonny Gray went eight innings to pick up his eighth victory of the season.

Braves 5, Nationals 3. Rafael Ortega led the Braves to victory with four hits. Shane Greene got the win with two innings of relief, and Chris Martin got the save.

Brewers 4, Padres 3. Justin Smoak broke a tie with a home run in the eighth inning for Milwaukee. Tyler Clippard got the win and Josh Hader the save.

Rockies 13, Diamondbacks 11. Just another day at Coors Field... Eduardo Escobar hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning to give the Diamondbacks a two-run lead. Daniel Murphy answered right back with a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the inning. Jairo Diaz miraculously pitched a one-two-three ninth inning to end the game. Murphy and David Dahl both had three hits on the day, with Dahl reaching base all five times he was up.

Pirates 4, Giants 3. Ke'Bryan Hayes had three hits, including a two-run homer that put the Pirates ahead in the eighth inning. Reliever Blake Cederlind got the win, and Nick Burdi stranded two runners in the ninth for the save.

Yankees 12, Royals 7. Giancarlo Stanton hit a grand slam, his 25th home run of the season, as the Yankees beat the Royals. Brett Gardner and Gleyber Torres reached base four times apiece.

Twins 4, Orioles 3. Nelson Cruz had three hits, including his 20th home run, as the Twins narrowly beat the Orioles. Michael Pineda left with an injury in the second inning, but Zack Littell pitched two shutout innings in relief for the win.

Mariners 7, Blue Jays 4. Kyle Higashioka homered twice and drove in four runs for the Mariners as they beat the Blue Jays. Wyatt Mills got the win and Taylor Guilbeau the save.

Rays 4, Red Sox 3 (10 innings). Brandon Lowe's two-run double in the ninth tied the score. The winning run scored the next inning when Kevan Smith scampered home on a wild pitch. The Red Sox missed out on a solid effort by Daniel McGrath, who allowed just one run in eight innings.

Athletics 8, Tigers 6. This was a back-and-forth game that saw five lead changes. Chad Pinder drove in the go-ahead run with a two-run single in the eighth inning. Liam Hendriks got his 17th save.

Indians 7, White Sox 5 (10 innings). Jordan Luplow's two-run single in the tenth inning gave the Indians the win. Luplow, Jose Ramirez and Carlos Santana had three hits apiece for Cleveland. The Indians got three scoreless innings from their bullpen.

Rangers 7, Astros 4. Shin-Soo Choo had three hits to pace the Rangers offense. Jordan Lyles allowed two unearned runs in five innings to get the win.

Marlins 8, Angels 4. Corey Dickerson and Miguel Rojas (hitting 8th?!?) each had three hits as the Marlins doubled up the Angels. The Marlins got a three-run homer from Garrett Cooper in the seventh to help them come from behind.

Cardinals 4, Mets 1. Harrison Bader hit a three-run homer to lead the Cardinals to victory. Dakota Hudson pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings, while Giovanny Gallegos hit his 15th save.

Cubs 6, Phillies 4. Victor Caratini, David Bote and Javier Baez all homered to help the Cubs to the win. Baez drove in three and Caratini had three hits on the day.

Dodgers 9, Reds 6. Cody Bellinger reached base all four times he was up and hit his 20th home run of the season. Mookie Betts and Gavin Lux both homered and had three hits apiece. Julio Urias allowed one run over 6 2/3 innings for the win.

Braves 9, Nationals 8. Juan Soto tied the score at eight with a home run in the top of the ninth, but the Braves answered back in the bottom of the inning when Freddie Freeman drove in the winning run. Adeinys Hechevarria homered and drove in three for Atlanta. Eric Thames hit a grand slam for the defeated Nationals.

Brewers 9, Padres 8. Keston Hiura hit a grand slam in the seventh inning to tie the score, and Ben Gamel hit another home run to put the Brewers ahead in the eighth. Brock Holt had three hits for Milwaukee, and Hiura drove in five runs on the day. Corey Knebel got the win and Josh Hader the save.

Rockies 15, Diamondbacks 10. When 25 runs are scored at Coors Field, it's called "Wednesday." The Rockies plated eight in the eighth inning, capped off by a grand slam off the bat of Ryan McMahon, who had actually come into the game as a pinch hitter earlier in the inning. Tony Wolters reached base all five times he was up for Colorado.

Pirates 2, Giants 0. Joe Musgrove threw a 98-pitch shutout, allowing just two hits and no walks. Jason Martin drove in the first run of the game with a triple in the fifth.

Blue Jays 4, Mariners 0. Danny Salazar left with an injury after the first inning, but the Blue Jays' staff didn't miss a beat, holding the M's to six baserunners on the day. Travis Shaw had two hits and drove in three for Toronto.

Athletics 6, Tigers 5 (11 innings). The A's tied the score with a Sean Murphy home run in the ninth, and went ahead in the eleventh on a single by Stephen Piscotty. Ramon Laureano and Chad Pinder each had four hits for Oakland.

White Sox 2, Indians 1 (10 innings). In the tenth, Tim Anderson singled, stole second base, and then scored on an error by Francisco Lindor that would have ended the inning. Shane Bieber had to leave the game with an injury in the second; he was diagnosed with shoulder tendinitis and should be able to return soon. Michael Kopech got the win with 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.

Orioles 9, Twins 8. Willians Astudillo hit a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth to tie the score, but pinch hitter Adley Rutschman answered back with a walk-off single to end the game. Renato Nunez hit a grand slam, and Hanser Alberto had three hits for Baltimore.

Yankees 12, Royals 0. James Paxton blanked the Royals in a three-hit shutout in which he struck out nine. Giancarlo Stanton hit his league-leading 26th home run, and Gleyber Torres hit his 24th. Luke Voit also homered and reach base all four times he was up.

Red Sox 5, Rays 3. The Red Sox came back from a three-run deficit to defeat the Rays. Rafael Devers tied the score with a sac fly in the eighth, and Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a two-run homer in the ninth to put Boston ahead for good. Mychal Givens got the win in relief, and Matt Barnes his 18th save.

Astros 13, Rangers 8. The Astros scored twelve runs in the first three innings to blow out the Rangers. George Springer homered, had four hits total, and drove in four. Jose Altuve and Kyle Tucker had three hits apiece.

Dodgers 10, Reds 5. Cody Bellinger homered twice, reaching 22 on the season, and drove in four as the Dodgers beat the Reds. Joc Pederson also homered among his three hits and drove in three.

Padres 5, Brewers 2. Franchy Cordero and Greg Garcia homered as the Padres defeated the Brewers. Joey Lucchesi allowed one run over seven innings for the win.

Diamondbacks 8, Rockies 3. Ildemaro Vargas (who?) hit for the cycle to lead the Diamondbacks past the Rockies. The 28-year-old had less than 300 plate appearances and just 23 extra-base hits in his career prior to this outburst. Merrill Kelly got the win, and Josh Green collected a two-inning save.

Giants 2, Pirates 1. Evan Longoria hit a walk-off home run to lead the Giants past the Pirates. Jeff Samardzija allowed just one run in eight innings for San Francisco.

Nationals 3, Braves 1. Patrick Corbin allowed one run over eight innings to get the win. The Braves mounted a threat in the ninth, scoring a run and loading the bases, but Sean Doolittle got Ozzie Albies to ground out to end the game.

Interesting how this season is unfolding, why are the Marlins dominant who is this Miguel Rojas.

Amazing how Asdrubal Cabrera is in the RBI race

How is Pete Alonso doing, see that Jeff McNeil is going for power again instead of average

Alonso is hitting just .222 with 13 home runs. McNeil has been great, .306 with 15 home runs and 41 RBI.

Major sophomore jinx for Pete which I would expect. McNeil coming into his own for sure. My client is a loyal Marlins fan, and I told him going into the season these are the types of years where they sneak up on you despite all the talent in the division, but surprised they could do that with Mattingly as manager in your sim.

Yankees 9, Red Sox 0. Naturally, Chris Archer turned back into an ace as soon as he joined the Yankees, pitching eight shutout innings and striking out nine. Brett Gardner had four hits and Aaron Judge three in the blowout.

Blue Jays 6, Tigers 5. Consecutive home runs by Bo Bichette and Rowdy Tellez (his second of the game) tied the score in the eighth inning. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. then scored on a throwing error in the ninth to give the Blue Jays the go-ahead run.

Rays 3, Orioles 2. Home runs by Brandon Lowe and Mike Zunino made the difference for the Rays. Charlie Morton got the win for Tampa Bay.

Twins 13, Royals 6. Byron Buxton had four hits and drove in four, and Luis Arraez had three hits and drove in five in the blowout. Miguel Sano chipped in with a three-run homer, his 24th of the season.

Indians 9, Rangers 3. Francisco Lindor hit a grand slam, and Cesar Hernandez had a three-run home run as the Indians easily beat the Rangers. Triston McKenzie went five innings as the follower for Cleveland to get the victory.

Angels 5, Mariners 4 (12 innings). Jo Adell singled home the winning run in extra innings for Los Angeles. Mike Trout reached base three times for the Angels, and Brian Goodwin homered. Kyle Seager homered and had four hits for the Mariners.

Nationals 11, Mets 0 (Game 1). Stephen Strasburg struck out the side in the first inning, but had to leave with a blister. It didn't matter; Joe Ross and five other relievers held the Mets to just one hit. Trevor Plouffe had four hits for Washington, including a home run.

Mets 20, Nationals 3 (Game 2). The Mets repaid the favor by demolishing the Nationals. Corey Kluber was shelled, and the Nats' bullpen couldn't do much given their tired state; Washington ended up calling on Kurt Suzuki and Howie Kendrick to get through the last two innings. Pete Alonso had four hits, and he and J.D. Davis drove in five runs apiece.

Pirates 11, Rockies 9. A four-run eighth inning rally pushed the Pirates past the Rockies. Josh Bell and Kevin Newman had three hits apiece for Pittsburgh. Michael Feliz and Nick Burdi were able to shut down the Rockies at the end of the game.

Padres 8, Diamondbacks 4. All of San Diego's scoring came on two hits: grand slams by pitcher MacKenzie Gore and Trent Grisham. Gore got the win, allowing two runs over 6 1/3 innings.

Marlins 6, Giants 3 (11 innings). Jorge Alfaro drove in two with a single in the eleventh inning to put the Marlins ahead of the Giants. Jacob Hannemann had two hits, including a three-run homer. Wilmer Flores had four hits for the Giants.

Indians 5, Rangers 0. Carlos Carrasco threw a four-hit shutout, his fifth straight good outing as he continued his return from lymphoma. Carlos Santana and Cesar Hernandez homered for Cleveland.

Orioles 1, Rays 0. Renato Nunez hit a home run in the seventh inning for the game's only run. Sam Lewis pitched six shutout innings for the win, and three relievers finished the game for the Orioles. Yonny Chirinos pitched well in the loss.

Astros 6, White Sox 4. Michael Brantley had three hits and drove in two as the Astros beat the White Sox. Jose Urquidy was injured in the first inning, but five Houston relievers took things the rest of the way.

Blue Jays 7, Tigers 6. Cavan Biggio and Reese McGuire had three hits apiece to help the Blue Jays narrowly beat the Tigers. Detroit pulled within one run in the ninth, but Jonathan Schoop hit into a double play to kill a rally.

Red Sox 6, Yankees 4. Christian Vazquez had three hits and drove in three to pace the Red Sox offense. Matt Barnes walked in two runs in the ninth inning, but Mychal Givens came on to strike out Giancarlo Stanton with the bases loaded and two outs. Collin McHugh pitched seven solid innings, allowing two runs and striking out ten.

Angels 6, Mariners 5 (11 innings). Donnie Walton tied the game with a home run in the ninth for the Mariners, his third hit of the game, but Brian Goodwin drove in the winning run two innings later for the Angels. Hoby Milner provided three innings of scoreless relief for Los Angeles.

Cubs 7, Cardinals 3. Javier Baez, Jason Heyward and Anthony Rizzo homered as the Cubs defeated the Cardinals. Kyle Hendricks allowed four hits and one run over eight innings to get the win.

Giants 3, Marlins 0. Kevin Gausman allowed just two hits and two walks over eight innings as the Giants shut out the Marlins. Austin Slater had three hits for San Francisco.

Phillies 7, Athletics 2. Aaron Nola allowed one run over seven innings to get the win. J.T. Realmuto hit a two-run homer in the sixth to give the Phillies the lead, and Jay Bruce had a pinch-hit grand slam to break the game open in the eighth.

Reds 3, Brewers 2. Eugenio Suarez's 18th home run gave the Reds the lead in the eighth inning. Anthony DeSclafani allowed two runs over eight innings to pick up the victory.

Diamondbacks 3, Padres 1 (10 innings). Kole Calhoun singled in the go-ahead run in the tenth inning. Archie Bradley allowed a hit and two walks to load the bases in the bottom of the inning, but Andrew Chafin came on to strike out the final two batters. Luke Weaver allowed one run over 7 1/3 innings for Arizona.

Turner drove in the go-ahead run two innings later with a sac fly, and the Nats tacked on two more. Turner finished with three hits and six RBI on the day.

Rangers 11, Royals 2. Robinson Chirinos and Ronald Guzman each had three-run homers as the Rangers blew out the Royals. Joely Rodriguez got the win in relief and Rafael Montero pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Athletics 5, Angels 2. Ramon Laureano and Marcus Semien homered to help lead the A's past the Angels. Frankie Montas allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings to get the win.

Braves 4, Red Sox 2. Johan Camargo reached base all four times he was up to help the Braves past the Red Sox. Mike Foltynewicz left with an injury in the fourth inning, but Mark Melancon got the win in relief with 2 1/3 scoreless innings pitched. Christian Pache put the Braves ahead with a single in the seventh.

Tigers 5, White Sox 4. Miguel Cabrera hit a bases-clearing double in the first inning to put the Tigers on the right track. Jordan Zimmermann got the win, and Joe Jimenez picked up his 18th save.

Indians 4, Orioles 3. Rio Ruiz tied the score in the top of the ninth with a two-run single, but Tanner Scott walked four batters in the bottom of the inning for a walk-off walk. Jose Ramirez, Carlos Santana and Jordan Luplow had two hits apiece.

Royals 8, Rangers 7. Alex Gordon had three hits, including a home run, and drove in four as the Royals narrowly defeated the Rangers. Robinson Chirinos homered twice for Texas.

Tough break for the NL-best Cardinals, who lost Dakota Hudson to a torn meniscus. The 25-year-old Hudson was in the middle of a second straight excellent season, with a 7-2 record and a 3.09 ERA.

Lucas Giolito and Matt Manning were both excellent, holding their opponents scoreless and allowing just three hits between them over 7 1/3 and 7 innings respectively.

Blue Jays 4, Rays 0. Randal Grichuk homered twice to reach 19 on the season. Cavan Biggio had three hits, and Chase Anderson threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings.

Another division leader lost a key piece, as Will Smith of the Dodgers suffered a fractured ankle and will miss the rest of the season. Smith was hitting .258 with nine home runs.
