Bert Blyleven was highly motivated today by a pre-game report that gave Oakland the edge over Toronto with their starting pitcher, Floyd Youmans. Interested in proving that wrong, Bert pitched the Jays to an 8-1 win over the A's. Bill Pecota hit his 5t homer for the Jays. WP - Bert Blyleven (4-2) LP - Floyd Youmans (2-5) Record - 28-6

Franklin Stubbs hit three home runs as a Mariner barrage sent them to a 9-5 win over the Blue Jays. Bill Johnson homered for Toronto. Eiichi Hasegawa hurt his hand sliding into 2nd in the 9th. It would be a real shame if a player was injured in a lost cause. WP - Mike Bielecki (1-2) LP - Nolan Ryan (5-1) Record - 34-8

Eiichi Hasegawa's hand contusion is sending him to the D.L.
It is expected to be for the minimum time. Zhao-ji Li is called up from AAA. The Jays have been working on an extension with Tony Gwynn but it seems that they are too far apart. Gwynn is looking at 5-years and $7.8m. The Jays were thinking more like 4 years and around $4m.
