First try turning off your anti-virus/firewall and try again. If that doesn't help try running the game in admin mode and entering the license.

To run the game in admin mode, right click on the icon and then you'll see an option to 'run as administrator'.

Did all of that and it didn't work. It never does day 1. Had to activate manually offline. It's annoying.

Yeah I can understand that. I dunno why that happens sometimes. It's not just day 1, it seems to happen randomly to different folks at different times.

Did the manual activation work at least?

Ugh. It's crashing immediately after the initial loading dialog. 5 times, same thing.

Rebooting computer now.

Ok, I think we're going to want to know your system specs and also maybe have you attach a trace file if possible.

The info on generating a trace file is as follows:

Open the game and click on Settings
Now click on the Troubleshooting tab.
Finally, click the drop-down menu that says "Don't write OOTP debug info to file".
Change it so that it will be "write OOTP debug info into file".
Click OK and then exit the game.

Generating a Trace File

Once Trace Mode has been enabled, follow these steps to generate a trace file:

Launch OOTP. You may receive a pop-up saying that Trace Mode is enabled, and that performance may be slower than normal.
Perform whatever steps are required to cause your problem to occur (or perform whatever steps OOTP Developments has suggested).
Quit OOTP (if it hasn't crashed). [If it didn't crash, then the log won't be helpful for troubleshooting crash problems (but may be helpful for other problems). In that case, there's no need to send us the trace log if you're troubleshooting a crash problem.]
Open the game and click on Settings (or Preferences in older versions).
Now click on the Troubleshooting tab.
Open the folder called "debug".
Finally, find the file called "ootp_trace.txt" and attach that to your ticket.

To disable Trace Mode, simply reverse the steps above. It's important to disable this since the game will run slower with trace mode enabled.

That's unusual. Try running the game as admin and disable andthing running in the background, inclduing virus scanners.

Can't do all this as I can't access a menu.

Trying Markus' suggestions now.

Edit - Run as administrator didn't work. This is really odd, never had this problem with previous versions, been running 17 on this machine. I'll keep at it, thanks for the responses.

Try disabling firewalls as well.

Try going to the following folder: Users\Whatever your user folder is named\AppData\Roaming\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 18\config

and in the app.cfg file change the line that says:

trace_mode
0

to trace_mode
1

and then see if you can get the trace file to generate and attach it to a post.

Is it important that there isn't a "config" folder there?

Never mind, I'm an idiot. Missed the AppData sequence, eyes skimmed right over the folder structure you stated.

Windows search from the OOTP Baseball 18 folder turns up no app.cfg file.
Umm, it might simply be that the game is crashing before it can generate the file for the first time. So probably it's probably not a problem, but rather a symptom of the problem.
