Montreal Expos Stats and Analysis
The Expos offense has dried up a bit since the 50 game mark, a slight reduction in HRs and batting average has dropped the Expos offense from 3rd to 8th. Pitching wise, all though we pretty much rank the same as we did 25 games ago, or ERA, especially in the bull pen has improved. As well going back to Rancourt as a closer.
We took a chance and moved out Motohiro Kodama in a trade after a couple of ineffective starts while Trevino was out. Our top 4 have been pretty consistant but I would like an upgrade to Scott Turner. Having said that, all 5 of the Expos starters have +50% Quality start numbers. Turner is 4th at 61.5%. The Expos will demote SP Scott Turner and promote SP Ricky Greer. The 25 year old is 3-3 with a 3.54 ERA in 15 AAA starts this year. Greer was acquired in a trade on June 17th, 1974 with the White Sox.
Mathieu pitched well since the call up 25 games ago. Barrios's ERA seems somewhat inflated considering his Whip, but he did give up 1.2 HR/9. He actually has the lowest Inherited runs scored % (14.3%) of all the Expos relievers.
Samms is having an above average year, looks like Samms will end up with about 15-17 HRs and is better than his career average .249 and .733 OPS.
With Maynard out for the remainder of the year, Forristall has played well defensively while Capps have given the Expos a little more offense from the right side then Forristall and Maynard. Carlson has tailed off since the 50 game mark, he is not going to match his career averages for .286 batting average and .782 OPS. What Carlson should do though is be pretty close to his career high 58 RBIs as he is currently on pace for 52.
Injuries have certainly been an issue in the outfield. Only David Haynes has been healthy from a starters point of view, with Garcia and Woodbury both dealing with injuries and missing time. Currently Garcia is out until the last week of the season. Although his batting average doesn't show it, CF Danny Plantz has been stealing bases and keeping opposition pitchers and catchers on guard. Not sure his bat is ready for the MLB yet. The Expos will demote OF Jon Sullivan. The Expos will promote OF Ricardo Gonzalez, the 27 year old is hitting .255 with 8 HRs and 23 RBIs in 60 AAA games. Gonzalez was acquired in a trade June 29th, 1974 with the Red Sox. |
