OOTP 15 - Please share your first impressions here!

Another thing I'm noticing that might very well be me misinterpreting the star ratings/new rating scale, but take C.C. Sabathia for example. On his normal player profile he has an overall rating of 2.5 stars, but when I click scouting report, my scout gives him 4.5 stars and so does OSA's scouting report. My question is: where is the 2.5 star rating (relative to MLB baseball) coming from and why is it so out of line with the star ratings in the scouting report page?

Anyway, early review: Love it!! The manager's screen is a great plus..and the fact it is customizable, I love that even more.


I gave my second key to a friend who I been telling about OOTP for the last two years. I had introduced him to Baseball Mogul (Yes, I know...shame on me) while we were in Iraq in 2009. Now that I have OOTP, I gave my second license for him to use this year.

Great product, even though I took some time off to get my better half out of the house for the first time in three weeks to have lunch with me. Back to the game now.

I'm trying out the new 3D (which I understand is incomplete.) For an incomplete feature and a first go at it, I'm very impressed and excited about the potential for the future. I'm curious as to what still needs to be completed for this version. Are we looking at improved physics with the upcoming updates, or just more accurate representations of what's happening? (though I haven't noticed many out of line with what actually happened yet--only one, really.) I really like that you guys are going in this direction, as it makes actually playing out the games a lot more enjoyable for me.

First impression. Wow. I only had time to install the game and import a league from OOTP 14. The game looks amazing. The layout is different and a little difficult to get used to it but its very intuitive. Will not take long to learn.

Can't wait to get home and play out a few games with this franchise and maybe start another. I can tell you its going to be a long weekend. Ill shut myself in my house today and rise again Sunday to get ready for work.

I still can't get the proper screen. I hide the task bar, checked windowed, hit the reset tab and the ok tab and the screen goes black and freezes. How to you exit full screen with out exit the game? There is nothing on my screen ?

I hit the microsoft windows logo key, which is located to the left of the left "alt" key.

I have to say I love this feature.

Even in its early stages, I really like the Siri-like voice telling me what happens. I think "vintage" is the word here - voice synthesis is very old-school, but sounds very cool. I hope you guys keep working on this (once the 3D stuff is up to snuff) because if you can tighten it up here and there, and get it smoothly working, it's an awesome play-by-play feature.

I note, however, that the ball animation stops when this is turned on. I don't know if that is by design.

I am seeing both ball animation and hearing text to speech. Which option are you using, just the text to speech or sound+ text to speech? I'm using the latter and seeing both.

I didn't even notice the text to speech feature until you said it. I agree: that's a terrific idea. It would be great if you could get human recorded text to speech down the line.

I'm not sure, but it also seems like the text to speech might have been edited to properly say player's names. For instance, it says Teixeira correctly, and I can't imagine Siri not butchering that one.

Edit: Maybe not on that last point. Yankees catcher Brian Mickin just came up to hit for me. How does it get Teixeira spot on and then butcher McCann?

Looks great so far. One minor point I have noticed is that Oakland, CA is not listed in the weather.txt file within the database. I suppose that means it will get Madrid's weather (last city listed goes to cities not contained in the list), but it's weather should probably be closer to that of San Francisco. I'll let you know what else I turn up while poking around the database. I modify the era_ballparks.txt, injuries.txt, and weather.txt files, as well as schedule files and poke around the stats folder to look for major leaguers with the same name who haven't been properly separated using middle initials, so I'll see if I find anything there and post it in the appropriate thread. Yeah, I like to tweak. So what? Happy OOTPmas everybody!

TTS was a new feature in OOTP14. Sort of under the radar. I think the voice sounds better if you use Windows 8 (since TTS was improved in W8). Also, I'll have a modified English.xml file soon. It helps the TTS narrator pronounce the count better.

Wow, I didn't even notice it in 14. I do have Windows 8. That's terrific that you're working on a modified file. Having it call the count right will be nice. Another idea is to make it say a batting average correctly (two-fifty instead of point whatever), if that's possible.

Markus and co: As an overall first impression, I have to say that this is the biggest change to OOTP since the first SI version. As I think we all remember, that one had its issues but was ultimately a very good thing for the series. This time, though, I think you guys knocked the big changes out of the park. (Eh? Eh? See what I did there?)

By the way, what do the new db_structure files and beard_frequency_default file within the database do? Will the db_structure files affect the changes that tweakers like me like to make to the database? Thanks.

Just getting used to the new look and feel of it, first impressions...loving it, but the new interface will take some getting used to.

Minor quibbles and i mean minor...the new facegen doesnt seem as sharp to me as the '14 one did?

And the only other thing that comes to mind is the fact that all pitchers (on their profile page) have historical WAR listed for each year, yet no batters do, they remain mostly blank, except for the catchers, who oddly seem to have a minus WAR listed for every year, no matter how they performed.

Anyway, they are, as i say, very minor nitpicks.

LOVE love love the new looks, Daniela did a fantastic job on that.

Very iOS7 like.

It looks clean, will dig into it later and get used to it. Seems more intuitive, just have to learn where everything is.
