Kinsler is 31, Prince is 29. Kinsler is signed until he is 35 at around 17 million per year(buyout included). Prince will be signed until he is 36 at 19.8 million per year(what the rangers are paying).

Its hard to project how either will age but being two years younger, being similar in production, and being signed until around the same ago doesnt reflect either side getting the "heavily favored" side of the deal. If anything the 2 years of being closer to peak years might actually make the monetary value in this trade almost equal.

Good trade for both teams. I think they will both be better next year because of it. A trade is rarely that good.

Long time before the season starts, but I sure like this batting order

Kinsler
Cabrera
Martinez
Hunter
Dirks
Castellanos
Jackson
Avila
Iglesius

I think Hunter could drive in 100+.

I'd keep Cabrera in the third slot:

Kinsler
Hunter/Dirks
Cabrera
Martinez
Dirks/Hunter
Castellanos
Jackson
Avila
Iglesius

In an ideal world Iglesius will bat like Vizquel and we could move him into that 2nd slot... a guy can dream right?

I keep hearing all the stat heads say "bat your best hitter #2" Would love to see the results and if it really works.

Dirks needs to find a new home. The inning killer doesnt need another chance to see if he can actually hit.

I think LF and closer are the two main positions DD is going to fill. Dirks will not be the starting LF next year.

The Fielder deal 'should' dramatically improve the defense at three infield positions. The question is, does the Coke deal undo most of that.

DD, pick up a Pepsi habit!

Never left, but thanks DP - just been a bit too ill to do much more than just read lately. Plan to resume my stat posting in a day or two, when I can sit up for more than an hour.

Happy Thanksgiving to my US buddies.

Ugh! I love me some Fister. Sad to see him go. Hope the young arms turn into stars.

Wow! These are some kind of painful trades this off season. Next year's team
Is going to look different.

What on earth is Dombroski thinking with the Fister trade?

I'd say that may be the most incomprehensible/indefensible MLB trade since the Mets traded Kazmir for Victor Zambrano. Yikes! I feel bad for all the Tigers fans around here.

My guess is DD feels comfortable enough with the idea of a Verlander, Scherzer, Sanchez, Porcello, and Smyly rotation that he's willing to get rid of Fister for potentially good bullpen help, a semi-super utility guy, and a future starter.

I knew Fister and Porcello were available for trade, but I was hoping to get something a bit more solid in return. Then again, maybe they are solid but we just don't know it yet.

In other news, the Tigers did avoid arbitration with Don Kelly, signing him to a one year deal. I feel so warm and fuzzy just knowing we didn't allow the greatness of Coke and Kelly to slip away.

You signed Joe Nathan today for 2 years.

I agree that trading Fister made no sense. I cant figure out what the idea behind that was.

Now if they can only lock up Dirks long term, we'll really have something.

I really don't like the notion of renting a closer at the tail end of a great career. Too much money and too much risk.

I wasn't too hot on signing Tori Hunter either though so what do I know!

Scares me as well, but Nathan had a nice year last season, so let's keep our fingers crossed. Also hoping Nathan is the type of guy that doesn't mind doing a little mentoring/coaching. If he can take Rondon and teach him all he knows about being a closer, this may very well turn out to be a lot more than a 2 year rental.

If it was a choice between Nathan and "The Beard" I think I'm taking Nathan. I was kind of hoping for Balfour, but if you go over to the A's board, you will see that he has tons of issues as well. Closers are so hard to predict.
