I strongly agree with this sentiment; however, he won't drop it for one good reason: money. Suspended players do not get paid.

He's in his declining years (judging from his stats, never mind his age), so he has to squeeze every buck he can out of the Yanks. If he takes it now, he'll be 40 when he returns and quite likely be unable to get much of a contract, if he even gets one at all.

So he plays it out, continuing to play and get paid, in the hopes it'll be overturned (or reduced) on appeal, thus saving what earning capacity he has left.

The appeal won't make much of a difference, he's not going to win, judging from all the negotiations he carried on with the Commissioner's office. He's just dragging this out for the sake a few additional bucks.

Remember the old adage: "Money talks, bull**** walks."

Sums the man up nicely.

Has anyone noticed the apparent correllation between banned substance use and the messy/embarrassing way careers have been ending?

What happened to the classy fade into the sunset/Ryne Sandberg retirements? They appear to have been replaced by liar liar pants on fire Palmiero/Braun, Arrogant A-Rod, Corkswinger Sammy Sosa, Medicated Manny, Needlemark McGuire, not to mention Barry "Chemical" Bonds. These cheaters are going down in flames and taking their Hall of Fame chances with them.

Thank God for guys like Mariano Rivera and Joe Mauer who show potential Hall of Famers can still have class.

The only Mariner player suspended was a guy we got from the Yankees (Jesus Montero). And it almost seems he was a good hitter only because the doping because since the crackdown he has sucked pretty bad. So the M's got fleeced in that trade if Pineda comes back from his injury. Any other similar cases like this noticed by fans of other teams?

Hard to say about Montero, though. Maybe it was the steroids, maybe it Safeco. I remember watching a few Yankee games when he came up, and when I heard about the trade thinking that he was in for a lot of long fly outs.

It does look like the Mariners will get the better end of the deal, if only because they actually had a guy in the trade play in the majors afterwards.

You can find your own links about the war of words now being waged between the Yankees and A-Rod camps over whether the Yankees intentionally played him last fall even though they (allegedly) knew he was hurt. Ostensibly, the intent was to try and injure him and get out of his contract, or something.

No, I came here tonight to share this with you. Look at the passion in Joe Girardi's face, like this was some sort of bursting point reached:

Folks like to use that popcorn-eating smiley at this point but I don't think it's appropriate here. This is getting grim.

If the yankees dont end up retaliating at some point in the game. Whether accurate or not, it might end up speaking to the public what they think of their teammate, than any words can express. Maybe a good situation doesnt come up in the game, but at least to the public it will likely appear as not sticking up for a teammate.

On another note: I was surprised they showed an AL game tonight on ESPN. But since it was Yank-Boston it figures. Not many games this year involving an AL team that hasnt involved either the Yankees, Red Sox, or an interleague in a NL park. I think the last one might have been the first 2 Sunday night games of the season. though maybe I missed one in May. I know the Braves have been on like every other week.

Whether that was on purpose or not, leave one to wonder, especially there had been displeasures that was spoken earlier of the week, by Dempster of A-Rod ... it's not good for Baseball

I had turned the game on just moments after Demp hit A-roid. I am still watching this game only to see if the Yanks retaliate. It has worked out great playing OOTP and watching MLB. Nothing better. I knocked out 14 games today between the Sox-Twins, Cubs-Cards & Yanks-BoSox.

Well since the pitch sequence consisted of behind the knees, 2 inside pitches, then one into the back. There really isnt much room to wonder. Dempster is just bad at hitting batters.

Heh. Permit me a bit of a non-sequitur in my own thread but THIS is what I do! The only problem is, I get so wrapped up in OOTP that I lose track of what is going on in MLB.

Players like Rodriguez will eventually reach the Hall of Fame. Most of us dread the day when Bonds, McGwire, Sosa, etc. will tarnish the reputation of Cooperstown, but we need to accept that it's going to happen eventually.

A lot of historians and baseball guys tend to lean on the argument that cheating has always existed at some level. They talk about greenies and such as being in equal violation as PED's and steroids, and use that to justify why certain guys we consider to be cheaters should be elected to the Hall.

The thing is, once one steroid user is elected, the standard changes entirely. You can't exclude certain cheaters while allowing others in the group. I suspect that the first steroid user we're going to see in Cooperstown will be elected entirely by accident (someone like Jeff Bagwell), and then after the fact find out that he may have been dirty.

That person may already be in the Hall. What if it's Nolan Ryan? End of his career basically mirrored that of Roger Clemons. I'm not saying he used, but simply asking how can we be sure he didn't?
