Where as OOTP 13 has made leaps and bounds, in so many ways and has so many options, as compared to OOTP 12 ... with Full Screen Display, beautiful clean UI ... talented MOD creators ... has a slew of DBs, especially the Old Negro League players, along with Japanese Players ... unlimited possiblities of Fictional Leagues ... along with what are being added into OOTP 13 ... THIS IS BY FAR, will be the Best Baseball Game ever in the History of PC Baseball ... Total Immersion ... Total Baseball ... and That's Baseball
Coming from the #1 puresim booster this is an interesting post. I gave up there a while back. Shaun tries and gives his all but he wouldn't or couldn't include features I was interested (and posted enthusiastically [rich12545]) in whereas ootp includes everything much better. Every few months or so I look at the competition to see if I want to change and each time I find myself more convinced this is the best baseball sim of all time and it continuously gets better.

I just don't like seeing that number before the name. They don't mean anything to me.

I honestly would rather just see the number on the field rather than the name because:

a) it would make the jersey numbers more relevant by making the players more identifiable by them

b) would be like real life where when you go to a game, you see the players numbers clearly, but there are no names over their heads

c) it would further reduce the clutter on the field for those, ahem, who use the lower resolutions.

Hopefully this will all be moot soon as I'm assuming this screen will be replaced by a more, better 2D, 3D representation of the game in the next version or 2.
I agree.. make it a freaking option then. What's the use of having a 24" monitor if you have to cater to those with smaller ones? Have it listed as an option with the rest of the pregame stuff. Here we are at version #13 and we still can't see the jersey numbers of players on the field!!!

Jersey numbers are an important part of baseball, imho. Heck, I wouldn't care if you removed the players first name initial to make room for it. Actually.. I would like it shown to the right of the player's picture, see below.

I agree that it would be nice for the users to be able to select their own pics for each team.

Seriously, how hard would this be?

1. Convert the box where the blue suit guy currently resides into a .png field.

2. Create a subfolder titled 'announcers'.

3. Allow the user to save a picture to this folder using the prefix 'an_' (just to help distinguish it from other graphics if it gets misplaced) and the team abbreviation. Therefore, you could have a picture of Jack Buck, for instance, with the name 'an_STL.png', or Harry Caray ('an_CHC.png') or Vin Scully (an_LAN.png), etc. Or, since it's up to the user - or modders - to find the pics, you could even have entire announcing teams in the pic.

4. Use Mr. Blue Suit as the default graphic for this space and name the file 'an_default.png'.

5. Allow for numbers to be added to 'an_default' ('an_default1.png, an_default2.png, etc.) so that other random announcer/team pics can be used.

Depending on which team you're playing as, the appropriate announcer(s) would show up in the PbP box. If you're watching a game that you are not the GM/manager of or 'acting as', you would see one of the random default pics. If your team has no announcer pic file, the default (suit dude) pic would be used.
Hear, hear.

I just thought of an idea for an augmented reality app using a 3D glasses type arrangement to allow you to see the players names / stats / whatever above their heads in RL.

Here is how I envision the numbers being displayed (Ian Kinsler) For left handed hitters, it could either shrink or just not show up altogether.. in fact, they could not display at all when a player is up to bat.

Player numbers are going to goof up the display of player names at smaller resolutions (and I am not just talking about 800x600 anymore, or even 1024x768, as "smaller resolutions"). Please make them optional if time permits.

How if it's displayed to the right of the player picture?

Probably less work for MH to make it an option, I'd say. Certainly less work than the one guy's idea of mouse-hover pop-up. Maybe it wouldn't be bad to add the uniform number, let's say, in the angle formed by the name/position boxes and the photo; underneath for defense, on top for offense.

Somebody else brought up that if the pitcher's name was "Strasburger," there'd already be a problem in this screen (granted, it did happen before but the numbers are now taking up four precious spaces):

Must agree the way it was implemented was not well (too cluttered), but don't give up. Perhaps give this idea a try and make it optional.

I like how it's displayed on Ian Kinsler first, my 2nd is Julio Borbon.. but yes, probably an option is best when it all comes down to it.

Good to see you here, Cornelius(rich!!) ...

And this is more the reason why ... read Shaun's quote ... After I asked about the possibilty of a Full Screen Display like OOTP and other Baseball Games, today ...

Unnfortunately this is not possible without a major re-write. Most of the UI was designed for a fixed resolution.

One thing you can do is run in scaled mode to at least run at a little larger scale.

Sorry.

Ok, enough of this and onto the Game ...

Apologies - I missed the post above.

And I like Andrus. Neat, and out of the way. Nice photoshopping!

Maybe you could do something like this Markus???

Except, you know, way better. Just wanted to throw more ideas out there.

EDIT: Oops, nevermind. Guess that would cover up the team name on the uni's.

I have a friend who is a hotshot computer programmer but who refuses to pay bills or bank electronically and who still has one of those old bulky color TV's from the 80's. There's just no accounting for some people's conservative tastes.

Like this? Obviously, each player would have their own jersey #, I'm not very good with photoshop.

I think it would look really nice, if like the batter, the player name and position box was lowered to line up with the bottom of the facegen picture and the jersey # would go up top like Matt Wieters.
