June 28 Terry Fox, who, as a 21 year old with only one good leg, ran halfway across Canada to raise money for cancer research died today at the age of 22. His own cancer from his amputated leg returned, and spread into his lungs, killing him. Flags are flown at half mast all across Canada in his honor, including at Exhibition Stadium, though we're not home to see it. Terry's dream of raising $24 million dollars to fight cancer would be realized through the annual Terry Fox Run, which in later years would raise hundreds of millions. |
