The first through the fifth of June is Monday through Friday. That represents an extra work week to find bugs. I suspect they want to use the time for that purpose. That allows the game to be released Friday/Saturday/ish to the preorder folks and Sunday/Monday/ish to the non-preorder folks. |

By the way, I think the "normal" release of the game being June-ish is a good business strategy.
When baseball season begins, there is a normal sense of excitement and many people will jump on and play the most recent version of the game. After a bit, as the interest in the new baseball season wanes, the next version of the game is announced, creating another round of excitement and many players will "pre-order" the next version at that time. As the excitement over the new-version announcement wanes, a release date is "announced" which brings about yet another wave of anticipation. And then, of course, the actual game comes out which generates some excitement. This is followed by reviews from the various entities that review these things that generates even more interest. And so on. My guess is the current "normal" release of the game is carefully crafted to create as much interest, thus sales, as is possible. |

You have an interesting idea here, but I think you are thinking to much into it. The game has had a very erratic release schedule over the last 6 years. Some years it is released before the season, while other years it is not. I think the release schedule is 100% dependent on how long it takes Markus to code the improvements he wants to make.

That's what I always thought, too. When I did a quick search for evidence that stuff about the Masons came up with it. Meh.

Patience has never been one of my strong points. I'm a Braves fan; we're always waiting and it's killing me.

I don't really follow, how would releasing the game stick it to anyone?

So, can I download it yet. An unpolished version is fine by me. I buy unpolished *cough*EA*Cough*Adventure Company*Cough*Cough* software all the time. I'm sure the version, as of now, is more polished than anything on the shelf at Target or available on Steam.

One thing about OOTP that argues for holding off on release as long as possible is that one spends enough time setting up new leagues that you don't want to inves the all the time in doing so and then find out that a tweak to hte system puts the investment in time in the wastebasket. I'm not saying that such a thing has happened often in the past in my experience, but this game is unusual in putting so big a premium on being able to carry over a saved game to a new patch. So whereas another game can be put out and learned for its basic mechanics while it is being patched, this one has a different dynamic.
Or so it seems to me, at any rate. |

Not a huge baseball fan, but I did buy OOTP8 a few years back. I still play it from time to time, although the bugs/crashes really bother me.
I AM excited about OOTPX, and hope that it's a huge step forwards from what I'm used to. Maybe, over time, I'll develop a finer appreciation for the game. |
