Hey guys -- going through and updating prospects for what BA has up so far, as well as adding in moves done (Bradley to TEX, Gagne to MIL, Ohman OOPS to ATL, etc.) Hopefully can have another update out tonight.

Does anyone have any advice to fix this? I have been trying stuff all day. Tried turning off player development, turned off the scouting system, and various other things. I can upload the exported roster file if that will help figure it out.

Hey cubby
Great work on the rosters. Have you run many test seasons? I am playing out my games and the team averages seem a bit on the low side about 15-20 points to low. I was just wondering if this is because of the small sample size(18 games into the season)

looking through Baltimore & Boston noticed the following. Hayden Penn is missing for Baltimore. Guillermo Quiroz for Baltimore is in free agent pool. George Kottaras for Boston is on San Diego. Alex Cora for Boston is in free agent pool. Great roster

Is this set supposed to include the 2007 draft picks? It doesn't seem to.

Interesting- it would be useful to collect info about other players, Major and minor leaguers, who will miss most or all of 2008. A few:

Chris Ray, BAL, elbow surgery
Danys Baez, BAL, elbow
Henry Owens, FLA, rotator cuff surgery
Josh Johnson, FLA, Tommy John
Willie Eyre, TEX, Tommy John
Brendan Donnelly, BOS, Tommy John
Carl Pavano, NYY, Tommy John
Angel Guzman, CHIC, elbow
Russ Ortiz, FA, elbow
Juan Lara, CLE, career likely over [edited, had mistakenly listed Juan Salas]
Joe Kennedy

Guys who may miss a good part of the year:
Anibal Sanchez, FLA, torn labrum
Joel Zumaya, DET, shoulder
Chris Carpenter, STL
Matt Smith, PHI

And in the minors:
Casey Crosby, DET, Tommy John, out for season
Jeremy Jeffress, MIL, 50 game suspension
Raul Padron, OAK, 50 game suspension
Justin Jones, WAS [released], knee, out for season
Nick Schmidt, SD, elbow, out for season
Andrew Brackman, NYY, Tommy John, out for season
Matt Bush, SD, elbow, out for season
Anthony Lerew, ATL, Tommy John, out til mid/late 2008
Kyle Drabek, PHI, Tommy John, out til late 2008
Dallas Buck, ARI, Tommy John, out until at least mid 2008

25 guys, and 24 of them are pitchers- the only position player is out with a drugs suspension; seems to me OOTP needs to get that balance of serious injuries right. Does anyone know of other players to add to the list above?

I haven't been using the newest version of the set, but the stat output was off in the first version. I ran a test season, compared overall league totals with real-life 2007 totals, and made the following adjustments in Game Setup --> League Setup --> Strategy:

League Total Modifiers:
Hits: 1.02
Doubles: 1.06
Triples: 1
HRs: 1.1
BBs: 1
Ks: 0.93
BABIP: 0.296

My next season was almost dead on with real life totals.

There were a couple of problems in the first set with minor league affiliates- Portland (AA) was affiliated with San Diego, not Boston, and the minor league AI for San Diego seems to have promoted or demoted some of those Boston guys, so they're still in the SD system even after the affiliation is corrected. There was also a problem with the Cubs affiliates in the first version (don't know if this was fixed)- if I remember correctly, the Dayton Dragons were affiliated with the Cubs, not the Reds.

I did notice, in the first version of the set at least, one 2007 draftee- Ross Detwiler- but no others. There are also several of the 2006 (and 2007) international signees missing, guys like, if I remember correctly, Wilmer Font, Esmailyn Gonzalez, Angel Villalona, Francisco Pena, Jesus Montero, Moises Tejeda, Engel Beltre and Larry Suarez from 2006 (though Triunfel is in there), and Michael Almanzar, Kelvin DeLeon, Julio Teheran, Jhrmivy Dejesus and Gabriel Noriega from 2007. I've edited the first version of Cubby's set to include all the important international signs from 06 and 07, along with the first two rounds of the 07 draft, but I don't know if there's a way to integrate those players with the new version of the set- I haven't done much import/export stuff.

Finally, in the first set at least, finances were a bit out of whack- player average salaries have been boosted in Setup, but there isn't enough money around for teams to pay FAs what they request. So guys either end up sitting in the FA pool, or signing at the start of Spring Training for far less than they ask for. It's easy, actually, to pick up several superstars at the start of ST, because it seems on that day OOTP drastically reduces the amount of salary a Free Agent will settle for. The problem becomes more noticeable if you sim forward a year. Not sure if this has been fixed in the new set, but it might be worth testing, and, if needed, adjusting player average salaries downwards, or team budgets upwards, before getting deep into a league.

Fixing the League Totals

Just change the BABIP from .296 to .306, all of your stats will reflect more modern day totals. Also .306 is closer to the true modern BABIP averages.

Same problem with the second set. Not sure the best route of fixing this.

Yep. It hangs at "Loading Leagues". It opens fine in 2007.

The financial problem is probably my fault, I changed salaries to try to reflect modern day and it might have made it out of whack.

Does anyone have suggestions as to settings? Does anyone have the defaults for 2007?

First of all -

Kudos and big thanks to cubbyfan for all the hard work on this set... I can only imagine the hours upon hours it took - heartfelt THANK YOU for sharing this.

A couple questions, however-

1. Is there a parameter around the league setup that prevents foreign FAs? I thought perhaps it was the foreign player setting = 10, rather than default 30. I ask because I've played a couple games through roughly August - with scouts virtually locked into scouting foreign nations (the big ones... Cuba, canada, DR, et al) -- and haven't seen any foreign FAs show up yet.

2. I've switched on full scouts/coaches/personnel - seeing some weird contracts (i..e, folks with 200 year contracts ;-). Obviously, I'm assuming this is because I'm trying to implement functions not supported by the set, but I'm wondering if there's any option -- beyond editing individually -- just to reset minor league personnel?

Is the Angel Guzman thing confirmed? I have not heard anything about it and I live in the Chicago area.

Finances

I fixed this problem by increasing the leagues average ticket price. Setting the average ticket price to 18$, fixed the problem for me.

I'm pretty sure hidden players are disabled in the set, and if so, that means there won't be any players at all in foreign countries. Unfortunately there's no way to turn hidden players on after a league has been created- it's been requested this be changed in next year's version of OOTP. Actually, you aren't even supposed to be able to scout foreign nations if hidden players are off, so I'm not sure how you've managed to get your scouts to Cuba...
