there is no release date. I've been moving really well on it so far, but with all else I've got going on (including the set with Rolen) time is kind of up in the air. I'll keep updating it here and letting people know where I'm at the best I can.

hey all,
good news: 25 of the original 26 are now done. The Yankees are last, and the players are there I just haven't done the ratings. I also have some better info for the negro league players gathered (though as I mentioned earlier I am still unsure what I'm doing with those last two teams). bad news: I screwed up the Web site so it's down for now. I will try to have it fixed and running right tonight or tomorrow. Questions or comments, let me know. GH |

The Web site has been fixed and touched up a little bit. I don't have the simmed season results up yet, but I do have the rosters up and a little bone for those anxious for me and Rolen's project too. Stop and take a look:

not up on the site yet, but I was able to develop a full "expansion" squad out of the 4 latest expansion teams. Obviously, this will be a very young team (Dave Martinez will be the position player veteran at 21). This will mean very low ratings at the start, but the potential for the bats on this team means offensively they could develop into a solid team. The problem with the "Diamondbacks" will be pitching...it's nonexistent. Here's the all-time project Arizona roster. Again, keep in mind, while this looks strong, it is in a best-ever setting. In a division with the Giants, Dodgers and Cardinals, this young group will have a long way to go. I would bet on trading hitting for pitching early on. Astacio as your ace in an all-time league is living VERY dangerously.

how's this for a note...my intention is to make sure every player rated by Bill James in the top 100 in his position is in the roster (except possibly 1800's players because rating them well is a pain in the ass). At catcher, 40 of the top 100 were not in the set, meaning nobody of the dozens of people who responded named these guys for their respective teams at all. But they will make it. If they clearly belong on a team, they will go with that team. Otherwise, they will likely be free agents.
It will be interesting to see if that trends holds true at the other positions. I tend to think it won't. edit- I stand corrected...36 of the top 100 at 1B weren't in yet either. The talent pool just got deeper ![]() GH Last edited by GForce22; 11-14-2002 at 11:00 PM. |

hey all,
A slow go the past week. I am working on the basis for potential ratings and have formed a pretty good method I think by which to do them. It's just a matter of getting everything organized. But the expansion squad has been imported. It actually fared fairly well vs the all-time Yankees which concerned me a bit (the Yanks won 6 of 10). As expected, the expansion squad's pitching was terrible, and the guys who got touched up on the Yanks are guys I knew I had to adjust. But the expansion team's offensive potential seems like it will be ok. However, because it will be a young team, it will be a few years before that is seen. I still need to develop the ratings for the Negro Leaguers and pick the guys who will be on the main team. That's the story as of now. I'll keep you updated as time allows. GH |

I was wondering why Ichiro Suzuki is not on the M's All-time Roster?
Thanks |

I had people trying to name Eric Hinske for the Blue Jays too. I don't think 2 years qualify you for an all-time league, personally. Ichiro will be involved in the league anyway with the Japanese players I create, so anyone who wants him can add him later. GH |

I am continuing developing the potential ratings, but at a much slower pace than I had been going. My sister was up visting and I have been busy with work and taking care of stuff at the house for the holidays (since the pregnant wife can't do too much). Also, I've been checking the set with Rolen in more detail after a new import that seemed to be much improved.
I'll keep you posted. GH |

Hi all,
I realized it has been more than a month since I updated the status of this project. I told everyone a while ago that as pumped as I was about doing this project, my first commitment rested with my project with Rolen. Much of the last month has been spent doing that, trying to get it up to par. We're almost there, which means I will hopefully soon be able to get back to work on this project. Rest assured, the project is still very much alive. The original version I developed (not released, but my base version) built off players' average seasons relative to the main decade in which they played. These figures were then translated into "80's baseball." That's the era I chose to go with. Using the era calculator you'll be able to adjust the offense/pitching balance however you like, this is just the way they will be done for my release. The base ratings for all teams I planned except for the negro league team are done. I will do the negro league team last, because rating them will be a bit different since I don't have the same figures to work with. I mentioned that I wanted there to be an age variable at work here. Making all-time teams, and having everyone be the same age makes no sense, because the lesser guys will never see the light of day. So what I have done is make age based on the era when the player played. Guys who played in the 20s will be older than those who played in the 80s. My original means of doing this would have made guys like Ty Cobb near the end of their careers though, which I decided against. So now, players will range from about 17-33. This will give the oldest players some good years left, and give a minor league system for the franchises of younger players. Each franchise will have between 40-60 players. High 40's seems common right about now, but there will be more players added. Anyone in the Bill James Historical Abstract who played after 1900 and is not in the set at this point will get added. Young franchises like the Expos and Padres will have about 40 guys. Older franchises with more history will have more players in most cases. Back to the ratings...I realized if I am going to do the age variable like I mentioned, then players need to be altered from those average season ratings based on their age. If they are in their peak years, their ratings should be up. If they are only 18, their ratings should be lower. Talents also have been adjusted, with the base numbers being affected by the number of times a guy placed in the top 10, top 5 or led the league in a given category. I have all of the hitting adjustments to ratings and talent done and ready to go. They are on paper and I just need to implement them. The pitchers are in progress now. I'm getting a lot of this stuff done at work, but work gets very busy for me in a couple of weeks. Hopefully I can get this done by then so I have all the ratings info I need at home. Then I can make the edits as time allows. I have no target release date for this for many reasons that have been discussed already. I would say it will probably be inbetween the last 2002 update and the first 2003 release. Conversion to OOTP5 shouldn't be a problem, so if I have it done by that release I will be pleased with myself. Any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to ask. And thanks to all of you who have e-mailed and posted interest on this topic. I am very sure you will not be disappointed. GH |

![]() Basically, when it's slow, I have a lot of free time at work to do data collection, so that helps a lot. And, especially pregnant and on bed rest, the wife goes to bed before I do (I'm kind of a night owl). So I get data collection done during the day, and edit the file for a couple of hours at night when time allows. Of course, other stuff gets priority a lot, but ona good day I get a bit done here at work, spend a couple of hours with the wife when I get home, and then work on the roster for an hour or 2 that night. ok, I edited the revised hitting stats for the Angels last night...took about 20 minutes. So I figure it will take 20-30 minutes per team for 27 teams. 9-13.5 hours to get the hitters updated. I would guess pitchers will take the same time (still doing the revised pitcher sheets though). I am HOPING to release v1 of this sometime in February. I think that's plausible. I'll update it as mentioned above after that. But I should have 28 updated and working teams, including the negro league team (I may mix Japanese guys on this team but I'm not sure). So the target as of now is v1 sometime next month.

Issue with OOUT5
Hey
GForce22 First, Thanks for taking the time to place real players into the game. Having an issue with the all-star game on the 2nd season. I don't seem to have the issue with the orginal .dat files, just wonder'in if anyone else is having an issue with this. The All-Star game complains on not having a complete 25 man roster. Any Ideas. Thanks >< |

G force please help
I bought the game Sunday with the intent of using your fine work to help my Atlanta Braves come to life. A member said your updates were the best.
He walked me thru the process of downloading the zip file into winzip...unzipping it into a folder (using cut and paste), I named the new folder Tigerball.lg I opened the game Pushed continue league.. Then I did "open league"...and went for the Tigerball.lg folder.. The update rosters...load perfectly, however...when attempting to play an exhibition game....or any other activity that requires the use of the mouse, the program closes imediatly, a gray box appears and sights OOTP5.exe caused OOTP5 to close, if this happens again restart your computer. Ofcourse I restart the computer...but at this point...many of my items attempt to load but can't..it seems that..explorer, will not respond...in fact I have been unable to view a website. HOWEVER, if I let my computer close and stay off and get explorer to load, everything works fine.....I can even play ootp5...so long as I don't open the league file Tigerball.lg I have done a virus check and a registry repair. I was told to start by continue league, could this be the problem? Like perhaps when I do that...a fictional league has grabbed the mouse? It seems I have tried to go directly to Open league open Tigerball.lg but I am not sure Excuse the wordy request but I am desperate, salivating over the real braves just beyond my mouse click. Please anyone feel free to call 1-800-255-4407 Extention 1 #...up untill 4:45 central or email me wallyworldr@hotmail.com Thanks a million Last edited by wallyworldr; 04-23-2003 at 04:28 PM. |
