PENNANT RACES:
The races in the Washington League remained tight until the very end when the eventual winners pulled away and made the last few games of the season just about home field advantages.
Missoula walked away with their 1st division pennant as the Osprey put up the best record in the WL while clinching the East. The usual best team in the East, Idaho Falls, made it 3 playoffs in 4 years winning the wildcard. Never finishing worst than 3rd in the WL East, the Chuckers are perennially one of the best in the league.
The 1902 WLCS champs Tri City clinched their 2nd Central pennant and will be trying to duplicate the playoff success they had 2 years ago.
Brooklyn duplicated Tri City, winning their 2nd division crown with the 1st being 2 years ago in 1902. They held off Vancouver and clinched by the widest margin of any of the division champs in the WL.

Lakewood Blueclaws 42 58 .420 23.0 38-62
PENNANT RACES:
The Lincoln League was a case of 2 extremes. In the East & West things were decided early. The Hudson Valley Renegades made it 2 straight East titles, clinching early as they were the only team over .500 in the divsion. Out West, Asheville continued to be the class of the LL. The 1902 IRL Champs made it 3 straight division pennants and 4 playoff appearances in 5 years as they have never finished worst than 2nd in their division.
Then there was the LL Central, which came down to 3 teams on the last day of the year. Vermont won in the afternoon, beating Lowell, and knew they would be in a 1 game playoff with the winner of the Hagerstown/Delmarva game. Barney Pelty threw a CG gem for the Suns and got them into the 1 game playoff for the division title, however the loser would have a nice consoliation prize of the wildcard.
In the playoff, the Lake Monsters battered Hagestown ace Chick Robitaille for 7 runs in 5 innings clinching their 1st division crown in a 9-4 win. Vermont accomplished the worst to first in the Central as the finished 12 games out last year and 16 games out in 1902 but made a remarkable turnaround in winning the pennant. Hagerstown makes their 2nd straight playoff appearance after making it to the IRL World Series last year.

1904 PLAYOFFS
WILDCARD:
3 of the 4 1st rd series went to the distance as only Hudson Valley was able to sweep Vermont 2-0. In the other LL series, which was a rematch of last years LLCS, Hagerstown made it 2-0 over Asheville, knocking out the team with the best record in LL 2 games to 1.
In the Washington League, the 2 favorites used their home field advantages as they both won in 3 games, on their home turf. Missoula ousted Tri City & Brooklyn knocked off Idaho Falls setting up a matchup of the 2 best teams in the WL in the WLCS.

LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP:
3 and done. It what figured on paper to be 2 excellent series, Brooklyn & Hagerstown proved the pundits wrong as they swept away Missoula & Hudson Valley despite not having the home field edge.
The Cyclones made it to their first IRL World Series as their offense was too much for the Osprey to handle. With 3 of the top power hitters in the IRL all in Brooklyn's lineup, they slugged their way to the series sweep beating Missoula by a combined score of 22-10 in the 3 games. Phil Haigh was Brooklyn's offensive star most of the year and it continued in this series as he hit 3 longballs and drove in 10 runs including a grand slam in game 1 to start the scoring in the series. He was obviously named WLCS MVP.
In the Lincoln league, Hagestown's experience helped alot as they swept Hudson Valley 3-0 and earned their 2nd straight trip to the rookie league championship. In a total twist from how Brooklyn got there, Hagerstown used their pitching as the trio of Barney Pelty, Ed Killian & Chick Robitaille each started and won 1 game each, and combined to allow only 5 er in 24.1 ip in the series as the 3 shared the MVP honors.

ROOKIE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP:
"THE SUN RISES THE 2ND TIME"
Hagerstown avenged last year's 4-1 IRL World Series loss by coming back this year and winning the championship, sweeping Brooklyn in 4 games in a very dominating performance. The Suns were known for the pitching, Cyclones for their hitting, so it was the rock vs. a hard place type of series. And in the end, the arms won out. Ed Killian led the way, starting 2 games, winning them both, including a 1 hitter/CG shutout in the decisive game 4. But after scoring 22 runs in 3 games in the WLCS, Brooklyn looked like they were at the plate with wiffle ball bats as they were only able to score 6 runs in the 4 games of the Championship and looked totally inept against top notch pitching.

AWARD WINNERS

WASHINGTON LEAGUE
MVP AWARD - SS Gene Thompson (Tri City Valley Cats)
- 24yo / USA - IRL MVP Awards: 1
- Season Stats: 91 g - 368 ab - .318 avg - 24 hr - 74 rbi - 72 r - 2 sb - .991 ops
- Career Stats: 183 g - 734 ab - .305 avg - 35 hr - 129 rbi - 129 r - 3 sb - .915 ops (minors/2 yrs)
205 g - 794 ab - .306 avg - 36 hr - 133 rbi - 137 r - 3 sb - .909 ops (career/2 yrs)
- Overview: Thompson truly was the best hitter in all of the IRL this year, combining a solid avg with league leading power & run producing. He was solid last year for Tri City but this year he seemed to explode right from the start and finished with the IRL lead in HR, RBI, OPS & Vorp and the future SS of the Indians also led the WL in XBase hits & Total bases while finishing 6th in Avg.

CY YOUNG AWARD - SP Cedro Pineda (Billings Mustangs)

26 g - 22 gs - 14-4 rec - 0 sv - 1.86 era - 160.0 ip - 43 bb - 112 k - 1.01 whip (career/1 yr)
- Overview: The 2nd rd pick in last year's draft was given up on by both Cleveland and Colorado, but found a home with Baltimore's minor league team, the Billings Mustangs. Proving 2 teams wrong, Pineda posted the only sub 2.00 ERA in the IRL and also led all pitchers in Vorp. Finishing 2nd in wins & opp avg & leading the WL in Whip, Cedro truly was the best pitcher in the league and the guy who 2 team's gave up need to re-evaluate their scouts.

92 g - 343 ab - .329 avg - 6 hr - 46 rbi - 63 r - 27 sb - .938 ops (career/1 yr)
- Overview: Moose was a 2nd rd pick in the most recent draft and had an interesting year in winning the LL MVP. Not leading the league in a single category, McCormick was one of the best all-around players in the league and his contributions in all areas seemed to sway the voters in his way. He was on the leader board in Avg, OPS, Vorp, Hits, Doubles, Runs, SB, Xbase hits & Total Bases, as the Dodgers' prospect had a great 1st professional season who expects to be starting in the OF for LA next year.

CY YOUNG AWARD - SP Gordon Grendon (Vermont Lake Monsters)
- 23yo / USA - IRL CY YOUNG Awards: 1
- Season Stats: 20 g - 20 gs - 13-1 rec - 0 sv - 2.11 era - 153.2 ip - 74 bb - 94 k - 1.21 whip

86 g - 86 gs - 34-39 rec - 0 sv - 3.94 era - 649.0 ip - 322 bb - 348 k - 1.38 whip (career/4 yrs)
- Overview: As evidenced by his career numbers, the former 7th rd pick in the 1900 draft has lived up to being, well, a 7th rd draft pick. Entering this year, he was 21-38 with a 4.55 era and his playing days in the states was thought to be coming to an end, maybe trying to make it in Mexico or Japan. And then this year happened. Winning 13 of 14 decisions, Gordon tied for the LL lead in wins while winning the ERA & Vorp titles. Suddenly, the Phillies were looking at him again, and a recent September call up has Grendon working out of Philly's pen in long relief and his career looks to just be starting now rather than winding down. Amazing what 1 year could do to you.

PENNANT RACES:
Um, race what??? 25 game lead, are your kidding me? The defending champs made sure nice and early that they were going to be defending their title in the *** Championship as Tohoku clinched with about a month left in the season. Simply crushing the rest of the Pacific, the Ninjas dominance over every other team led to no one else finished at .500. The set the record last year with 94 wins, this year they topped it, as 97 wins in a year is the new record in the *** for a team.

Chunichi Dragon 51 95 .349 36.5 49-97
PENNANT RACES:
Nothing like a tale of 2 leagues, as the Central League gave all the excitment needed in Japan. Hiroshima had a comfortable, and most likely insurmoutable, 8 game lead with 10 left. And then Yakult kicked into high gear. Winning their last 10 of the regular season, including a season ending sweep over Hiroshima, inwhich all the Carp needed was 1 game to clinch, the Swallows made the Central need 1 more game to decide the winner. And in the 1 game playoff, Yakult turned 10 straight into 11 in a row and 4 in a row to close out the year over Hiroshima, capping one of the most dramatic comebacks in baseball history while making the *** Championship for the 1st time in their 5 year history.

1904 PLAYOFFS
NIPPON LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP:
"TOHOKU 2-STEP"
Tohoku was the league's best team all year and Yakult was the hottest in a memorable Championship matchup. Yakult continued their hot streak jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the series, making it 13 in a row, but the Ninjas cam roaring back, winning the next 3 and finally ending it in 7. Tohoku added another record to their magical season, as they became the 1st ever 2-time *** Champions and obviously, the 1st ever repeat champs in Japan. Akira Fujii contined to prove he is one of the best money players in Japan history, winning the MVP of the series. In 19 career playoff games with Tohoku & Yomiuri, Fujii is hitting .371 with 5 hr & 18 rbi and hit 2 bombs this series while driving in 8 and hitting .355.

AWARD WINNERS

PACIFIC LEAGUE
MVP AWARD - LF Dave Vodden (Fukuoka Daiei Hawks)
- 28yo / USA - *** MVP Awards: 2
- Season Stats: 135 g - 503 ab - .268 avg - 47 hr - 102 rbi - 89 r - 0 sb - .984 ops
- Career Stats: 270 g - 1034 ab - .280 avg - 95 hr - 208 rbi - 185 r - 1 sb - .999 ops (int/2 yrs)
711 g - 2756 ab - .258 avg - 205 hr - 503 rbi - 439 r - 3 sb - .894 ops (career/5 yrs)
- Overview: Joining Ed Delahanty as the the only multiple MVP in Japan, Vodden's raw power is still simply unmatched in the *** and he was again named the PL MVP. While not quite as good as last year, Vodden still put up awesome numbers, especially in the traditional cleanup hitter areas. Hitting 14 more HR than anyone in the league, Vodden has posted the 2 highest totals (48 last year) in *** history. Also leading all of Japan in OPS, XBase hits and Total Bases and leading the RBI list in the PL, Vodden is the premier power hitter/cleanup hitter in Japan and a deserving 2-time MVP.

CY YOUNG AWARD - SP Vittorio Patino (Tohoku Rakuten Ninjas)
- 28yo / USA - *** CY YOUNG Awards: 2
- Season Stats: 31 g - 31 gs - 20-6 rec - 0 sv - 1.86 era - 256.1 ip - 45 bb - 269 k - 1.01 whip

- Overview: Patino was last year's Cy Young winner and best pitcher in the entire ***. This year he improved in wins, record, era and whip, so guess what? He was again the best pitcher in all of Japan. His 99-42 career record is ridiculous, he has 4 20-win seasons in his 5 years in pro baseball. He has dominated in both the MLB & ***. He has 1 World Series ring with Atlanta and 2 *** Championship rings with Tohoku. And he's only 28. He might go down as one of the all-time greats if he keeps this up for a few more seasons.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR - SP Adelardo Solib (Seibu Lions)

111 g - 111 gs - 47-52 rec - 0 sv - 3.42 era - 899.0 ip - 391 bb - 467 k - 1.34 whip (career/5 yrs)
- Overview: Solib is the type of player/career I was hoping for when I started this. A member of the Minnesota Twins' organization since the initial draft, Solib struggled thru 4 season in the minors with Kannapolis going 34-43 in his 4 years. His minor league free agency kicked in, and after never pitching an inning in the majors and not much prospect of ever making it, he headed to Japan and signed with Seibu. Now he is a ROY in the ***. He led all *** rookie pitchers in Vorp and led all PL rookies in ERA. He has found a home with Seibu and looks to be a fixture in their rotation at 23yo, with still plenty of seasons left in his career. Exactly the type of thing I wanted with this universe.

2317 g - 9439 ab - .345 avg - 126 hr - 1685 rbi - 1954 r - 529 sb - .914 ops (career/17 yrs)
- Overview: 37yo and still going strong as neither his talent or current ratings have dipped at all. The greatest player in Japan history, the greatest career numbers in any league, the unheard of 4-time/4 consecutive MVP of the CL, meet Big Ed Delahanty. His resume includes leading the league in hits (1x), doubles (1x), triples (2x), sb (1x), runs (1x), xbase hits (1x), batting title (3x), obp (1x), slg (1x), rc (2x), ops (2x), and vorp (4x). Again, here's Big Ed Delahanty.

CY YOUNG AWARD - SP Franklin Pittman (Yokohama Bay Stars)

- Overview: Nothing like peaking and having your best year of your career at 35 years old. Since winning 20 games for Seattle in the MLB in 1900 and signing with Yokohama, Pittman has been mostly a disappointment for the Bay Stars as evidenced by his career numbers in Japan. But this year, as he enters the tailend of his career, Pittman finally made good on the big money deal Yokohama signed him to. Winning his first Cy Young award, Pittman didn't lead the CL in any 1 category, however he was in the top 5 in ERA, wins, Opp Avg, Whip, Strikeouts & Vorp, the only pitcher in the league who can make such a claim.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR - SP Kokei Kimura (Yakult Swallows)

- Overview: The 8th overall pick in the 1901 rookie draft, Kimura becomes the first rookie draft player to win a ROY in the ***. Starting the year in the bullpen, Kokei was moved into the rotation later in the year and was one of the driving forces for Yakult down the stretch during their 11 game winning streak and Championship berth. He won his last 5 decisions and in his last 10 starts went 7-1 including going 1-0 in the playoffs. Leading all CL rookie pitchers in ERA, Wins, Opp Avg, Whip & Vorp, Yakult has a new starter in their rotation as the 21yo former draft pick looks to have a bright future in Japan.

Mochis Wranglers 24 44 .353 25.0 24-44
Team To Watch: Mazatlan Black Hawks
- When you win 2 of the 3 championships in the history of the league, including the past 2 seasons, you're going to be selected as the team to watch. With a very quiet off-season, the Black Hawks did make one of the better acquisitions in the off-seasons, signing OF Kemen Martinez from the Cards in the MLB. While he is only a .243 career hitter in his 4 MLB seasons, Mexico is a different world, and here he is one of the top players in the league with 9/contact, 9/power, 8/eye and 15/speed. Kemen will leadoff for Mazatlan and should help the heart of the order drive in even more runs after already leading the league last year. Danny Green (.332/1/23/41/23), Diego Huincho (.256/20/56/40), Vicente Herrera (.271/10/41/29) & Bunk Congalton (.270/1/17/32) make up the #3-6 hitters and give the Black Hawks the best middle of the order in Mexico. On the hill, Mazatlan has never had a star but always a bunch of quality SPs. That could change this year with the addition of 2 players from the IRL. Renaldo Belmares (11-10/2.74 era) & Curt Witt (7-6/2.68 era) never made it to the majors, but both were effective rookie league pitchers and have signed with the Black Hawks. They combine with Tajo Sarraganieves (5-6/3.59 era) as the top 3 SPs for the team. Their biggest pitching asset is in the pen however, where set-up man Demetrio Crohar & closer Francisco Carabajal could be the best 1-2 end of game punch in the league.

Pitcher To Watch: CL Waldo Sessions (CUL)
- A 5th rd pick in the 1902 draft by Oakland of the MLB, Sessions was released and signed a 2 yr deal with Culiacan of the MWL. In his 1st season last year, all he did was put up the greatest season ever for a closer in league history. Going 1-1 with 22 saves in 23 chances, Sessions posted a ridiculous 0.36 era & 0.92 whip in his 25.0 ip and struck out nearly 1 and inning with 21 k's. Now 27yo and comfortable in his 2nd yr in the league, expect Sessions to be as good, if not better, closing out games for the Moths.

Hitter To Watch: 3b Mike Ransom (HER)
- He replaced a legend in 2-time MVP Jimmy Sheckard, and Ransom started his own legacy in his 1st season in Mexico winning the MVP award himself. He is clearly the best player in the league and at 26yo, has now finally reached his max potential. Coming off a .343/8 hr/35 rbi/48 runs/21 sb season, expect Ransom to improve on the power & RBI numbers while still contending for the batting title. He could be the 1st 20/20 player in Mexico and he is the leader of the team which posted the best record in the league last year, and could do the same this year.

Rookie To Watch: SP Juan Mencoda (GUA)
- The 3rd pick in the draft looks like the best bet to have a solid MWL career. Out of Panama, the 22yo Mencoda has talent ratings of 6/7/8, good enough to be a back end of the rotation starter in the league. He also has a solid endurance (15/20) and while only throwing a fastball & changeup, his heater tops at 91mph and his change is thrown with alot of control and break. Needed atleast 1, possible 2 years, before seeing time on Guasave's active roster, the Hippies landed the best prospect of the draft and found themself a future SP.

PENNANT RACES:
The American League division winners were all decided early again this year as Tampa Bay, Detroit & Anaheim won by healthy margins and were able to rest their regulars down the stretch and heal up any nicks or bruises.
Tampa became the 1st 2-time winners in the East, winning their 2nd straight division title as the only team in the majors with 100 wins. Detroit continued to rule the Central making it 4 pennants in 5 years for the Tigers. And out West, the Angels are back on top of the West, their first division win since 1900 and their 3rd playoff berth.
The remaining spot in the playoffs was a 2-team race between Boston & New York. Boston swept a season ending series over Baltimore to earn the wildcard berth, making it back to the playoffs for the 1st time since 1900 when they were the ALCS Champs.

San Diego Padres 68 94 .420 20.0 74-88
PENNANT RACES:
While still not having the late season drama, the NL was a little more closely contended than the AL and a few of the races were still up in the air as the season drew to a close.
The Braves made it 4 playoff berths in 5 years and thier 1st division title since 1901. The 1900 World Series champs rode an amazing 20-6 September record to the pennant as they pulled away from the 5 team race in the East.
The Central featured 2 of the top teams all year in St. Louis & Chicago. In the end, the Cards were able to hold off the pesky Cubs and clinch their 2nd straight Central title. But Cubbie fans still did some celebrating as the team that has never finished better than 5th in the NL Central finally had a good season and made the playoffs for the 1st time in team history.
Out West, Colorado won their first pennant, ending the reign of the D-Backs who had won the divsion 3 of the previous 4 years. Arizona stuck around til the end though and the Rockies weren't able to pop the corks on the champagne until the very end of the year when they took 3 in a row over Arizona to close out the season.

1904 PLAYOFFS
WILDCARD:
2 series going the distance and 2 series going 4 games in the wildcard round this year.
Tampa Bay knocked Detroit, sending them to an early exit in the playoffs again, winning the series 3-1 and taking their home field advantage to the ALCS. In the other series, The Angels took the Sox the distance, but Boston made it an all-AL East ALCS and knocked out the favorite Angels winning the decisive game 5 in Los Angeles.
The NL series were much the same. Colorado knocked off the heavily favorite Cardinals in 4 games, getting 1 step closer to the World Series in their 1st post-season appearance. Atlanta and the Cubs went the distance, but the experience of the Braves overcame the upstarts from Chicago, winning the series in 5 while trying to get back to the World Series for the 1st time since they won it all in 1900.

LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP:
Tampa Bay completed the amazing feat for the AL East as the D-Rays swept Boston 4-0 and earned their 1st World Series trip. The amazingness of this is that the MLB has been in existance for 5 years. And in all 5 of those years, a team from the AL East has made it to the World Series as the league champion. And even more bizarre than that, with Tampa's win in the ALCS, each of the 5 teams in the division have made it once. Truly odd feat. Mr. All-Everything Ron Cronshaw won the MVP for the D-Rays as the superstar went 7 for 19 in the series including 1 homerun and 7 rbi.
In the NL, Atlanta became the 1st MLB team to make it to 2 World Series as the Braves knocked off the Rockies in 6 games. Taking a 2-0 lead in the series, Atlanta rode the bat of 43 yo series MVP Isdel Cano to the Championship. Bananas (his nickname) went Bananas as he hit 4 hr and drove in 11 of the Braves 22 runs in the series in truly a remarkable performance in the NLCS.

WORLD SERIES:
"DEVIL RAYS DESTROY ATLANTA, AL EAST DOMINANCE CONTINUES"
Tampa Bay was the best season in the majors during the regular season, and rightfully so, the best in the playoffs as the D-Rays swept thru the ALCS and now the World Series, beating Atlanta 4-0 to win their first championship. Eduardo "Pongo" Villagomez was names World Series MVP as the 39yo SS put on a great show in what could be his final season. Going out with a ring, Pongo hit 2 3-run HRs in the 4 game series, finishing with 8 RBI in total.
With Tampa's win, the AL East is yet again on top of the league. In amazing fashion, the AL World Series team has come from the division in each of the 1st 5 years, and except for Boston's loss in 1900 to Atlanta, the last 4 champions (including Tampa Bay) were all AL East clubs.

AWARD WINNERS

AMERICAN LEAGUE
MVP AWARD - RF Ron Cronshaw (Tampa Bay Devil Rays)

759 g - 2755 ab - .340 avg - 178 hr - 574 rbi - 595 r - 26 sb - 1.090 ops (career/5 yrs)
- Overview: And Cronshaw takes the lead. In it's 5 year history, the American League has only seen 2 players with the top award, Jorge Balcorta of Anaheim twice, and this Ron Cronshaw's 3rd. While not equaling his Triple Crown year of 1901, Cronshaw came **** close. He led or tied all the majors in 12 of the 18 offensive categories including HR, Hits, OPS & Vorp. And he just came up short of the quadruptle crown in the AL, leading in HR & Runs and finishing 2nd in Avg & RBI. Another truly great season for one of the best players the league has ever seen.

- Overview: Busting on the scene in a way no rookie ever has, Big Ed walked away with both the AL ROY & Cy Young honors this year. Taken #1 overall in the last draft, he was the easy undisputed best player available in the draft, but even Texas who drafted him couldn't have seen this much success so quickly. In his 1st season Walsh led all MLB pitchers in IP & Vorp and ranked 2nd in the AL in Wins & ERA while finishing 4th in Whip. With an unbelievable rookie year like this, it's tough not to declare Walsh as the greatest draft pick of the 4 previous rookie drafts and at only 23yo and with 10-15 more seasons in his career, he is on the fast track to Cooperstown.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD - SP "Big" Ed Walsh (Texas Rangers)

- Overview: Becoming the 1st ever MVP winner who also won the award in the minors, Reid has proven that he is the best youngster in the game, still not even 25yo. Always having the talen, Pistol has has some injury problems earlier in his career, however the past 2 seasons he has been completely healthy and this year was the best all-around player in the NL. Leading the league in Avg, OPS & Vorp, Reid also was one of the tops in runs scored, X base hits and Total bases and with 20 sb and a 20/20 season, he is a 2b who does it all, hit for a batting title, hit with some pop and steal some bases.

CY YOUNG AWARD - SP CJ "Madman" Earp (Cincinnati Reds)
- 26yo / USA - MLB CY YOUNG Awards: 2
- Season Stats: 34 g - 34 gs - 20-7 rec - 0 sv - 2.04 era - 251.0 ip - 28 bb - 247 k - 1.01 whip

106 g - 106 gs - 62-22 rec - 0 sv - 2.37 era - 796.1 ip - 72 bb - 810 k - 1.00 whip (career/5 yrs)
- Overview: Earp was the feel-good story of the year in baseball. After 2 devasting tricep injuries, the promising career of the Madman was thought to be over. But after diligently working in the off-season, he has come full circle, winning his 2nd NL Cy Young Award and first since 1900 before the injuries started piling up. Fully recovered, and at only 26, Earp's promising career looks to be back on track, and what a career it's been. A career 74% winning %, under a 2.50 era, a 1.00 whip and 11.25 K/bb ratio, it is easy to see why him being healthy was the best story this season. Earp led all the majors in ERA & K/BB ratio and led the NL in Wins, Whip & Vorp.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR AWARD - SP Norwood "Gibby" Gibson (Washington Nationals)
- 27yo / USA - MLB ROY Awards: 1
- Season Stats: 34 g - 34 gs - 16-6 rec - 0 sv - 2.93 era - 224.1 ip - 66 bb - 91 k - 1.21 whip
- Career Stats: 37 g - 37 gs - 16-7 rec - 0 sv - 3.24 era - 242.0 ip - 69 bb - 99 k - 1.24 whip (majors/2 yrs)
58 g - 58 gs - 26-12 rec - 0 sv - 2.91 era - 393.1 ip - 98 bb - 211 k - 1.18 whip (career/2 yrs)
- Overview: The former 3rd rd pick of Cleveland, Gibby had a very solid 1st yr in the rookie year but struggled with the Indians when called up. Claimed off waivers by Washington, Gibson proved Cleveland wrong and that they gave up on him too early. Winning the NL ROY in a tight race with John Titus of Arizona and Claude Elliott of St. Louis, his league leading Vorp among rookies was the difference maker. Gibson also led all NL Rookie pitchers in ERA, Whip & Opp Avg and was 2nd in wins.

Sexto lopez is a FREAK! Those are awesome numbers at such a young age. Is the game pre-disposed to offense?

Lajoie Trade.... Interesting, interesting. If Ohler was really a cy young caliber pitcher at 25, then that's an interesting deal, you mighta paid too much... of course you got FREAKING NAP Lajoie in return, so how can I really jump on you too much.

jeez, no matter what year or game, the Mariners always suck.

I like the nicknames, are those game generated? (oops) I just noticed that many of these guys are real. For instance I just looked up Frank (Deacon" Morrisey.... Did you know this little dude was 5'4, 140? I bet even th A's wouldn't overlook that stature no matter how good his stats were. BTW there are five morrissey's listed on baseball reference, and the last of them played in 1936, old name?

Lajoie... huge contract. I like it.

Ohler with 279 strikeouts in 1903, not bad...

Mariners! Win the west in 1903. I was wrong before, sweet! 99 wins by the mets, oh so close to that 3 digit mark, maybe next year... but still a great season. Good job making it to the world series, next time win that mother! Lajoie made his money with a .363 batting average, not bad! Surprised he wasn't in the top 5 in runs.

C Damien Cowen - Monster - 18 HR in 1903 is awesome. Great pickup.....

For some reason my browser *Firefox* seems to not really display all the text property toward the end of each page, like it only wants to display a certain amount of code text per paeg, *******....

too bad both the mets/mariners fell off so much in 1904... I guess that's gonna happen, lol

PS when are you sending me your memory card.

hey bro, glad to see you check this thing out. i dunno if you missed it or read from the beginning, but i ditched the idea of running the mets, other teams, etc. too much work to run teams and be the commish, so i just oversee/report on the league now.

as for your questions:

"Sexto lopez is a FREAK! Those are awesome numbers at such a young age. Is the game pre-disposed to offense?"
No, not really...early on I have noticed that there are more great offensive players than pitchers. this is mainly due to the fictional players having so much higer HR power than real life players in the early 1900's. so you get far more insane offensive years that pitching ones. there have been a few 25 game winners, or sub 2.00 era but i've had 2 triple crown winners and 2-3 other offensive players with amazing record book years early on. just the way it is at the beginning i guess.

"jeez, no matter what year or game, the Mariners always suck."
they made the playoffs one year, but they have really drafted poorly since the beginning. alot of their guys have not amounted to much. but socks seybold and bob wicker are anchoring them and they have a decent foundation. their division is winnable. the angels are getting old, oakland has been the worst team in the game since day 1 and texas lost its top hitter/pitcher to free agency, so they just need a big off-season this year.

"For some reason my browser *Firefox* seems to not really display all the text property toward the end of each page, like it only wants to display a certain amount of code text per paeg, *******...."
i have no idea bro, we both know im a spaz when it comes to websites and the such. i can send u any reports via e-mail if u want.

"PS when are you sending me your memory card"
i e-mailed you from work this morning, answer me back there. when is ncaa coming out?

glad you finally checked this out. wish you would get back into ootp this year, with the online capabilities, we could do a pretty sweet league but i know your all about ncaa/madden which both come out soon. hope you check out the boards once in awhile though

1904 MEXICAN WINTER LEAGUE LEAGUE MID-SEASON REPORT

Navojoa Chameleons 14 19 .424 6.0 16-17

Team Spotlight: Mazatlan Black Hawks
- The 2-time reigning MWL Champs look to be in good shape to defend their title in the Championship this year. Winners of the last 4 and 8 of their last 10, Mazatlan has pulled to within 1 game of the league lead. Their offense is what is keying them again, as it has their past 2 championship seasons. With the league's best team avg & most runs scored, the Black Hawks again sport one of the top offenses in the league. The surprise has been the pitching, which is 2nd in team ERA behind only Guasave, so they are doing it from both ends of the spectrum. Danny Green (.303/1/17/17/12) has been their main catalyst on offense and Renaldo Belmares (5-1/1.41) is their top hurler, giving them a leader in both the MVP & Cy Young races at the break.

Pitcher Spotlight: SP Renaldo Belmares (MAZ)
- Belmares signed with the Black Hawks after a decent season in the IRL last year, and he has been everything and more they could have hoped for. With a 5-1 record at the break with 1.41 era, 0.78 whip & 43 k in 44.1 ip, he is dominating in his first year in Mexico. He is tied for the league lead with 5 wins and is tops in ERA, Opp Avg, Whip & Vorp at the midway point, as is the runaway 1st half Cy Young winner.

Hitter Spotlight: RF Koto Inokuma (MOC)
- The former star in the *** is now in his 3rd season with the Mochis of the Mexican league. He has been one of the best power hitters in his previous 2 years, ranking at or near the top in HR & RBI both seasons. At the break this year, he is on pace for his best season since coming to the MWL. Hitting .287 with 12 hr, 25 rbi & 21 runs, Inokuma is on pace to break the season record in both HR & RBI. Along with those 2 stats, he also is the league leader in OPS & Vorp and is the leading candidate for the leagues' MVP.

Rookie Spotlight: CL Rudy Novak (HER)
- Novak pitched only 11 innings for Hermosillo last year after 3 struggling seasons with Detroit/Brooklyn in the USA. In his 1st year as the team's closer, he is having a decent season with a 1-2 record, 8 saves & 2.04 era. He currently ranks 2nd in the league in saves and is tops among all rookie pitchers in Vorp. One of the better closers in the MWL thru the 1st half, Novak looks to have found a home with the Victorians.

MWL - 1904 Season Wrap-Up

1904 MEXICAN WINTER LEAGUE POST SEASON REPORT
(Report Date - 1/13/05)

LEAGUE REPORT

Navojoa Chameleons 29 39 .426 10.0 31-37
PENNANT RACES:
In what was the closest race in Mexican League history, with 6 of the 8 teams in the league still being alive with a week left in the year, the end result was a rematch of last year's championship. Mazatlan has won 2 consecutive MWL Championships, but have never finished 1st in the league, so this marks their 1st regular season title & 3rd straight trip to the title series. Hemosillo held off Obregon by winning their final game of the season over Culiacan and clinched their 2nd straight trip to the championship as the 2nd place team, a year after winning the regular season title.

1904 PLAYOFFS
MEXICAN WINTER LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP:
"A DYNASTY IS BORN AS MAZATLAN MAKES IT A 3-PEAT"
2 in a row is a repeat, 3 in a row is a 3-peat, or also known as a dynasty. The Black Hawks have officially been crowned the 1st dynasty of my baseball universe, as they celebrated for the 3rd straight year as the Champs of Mexico. Running their post-season winning streak to 8 in a row, the Black Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the series before finally losing a game, and then clinching in 4, knocking off Hermosillo 3-1. SP Curt Witt was named series MVP as he continued his dominance from the regular season. Winning his last 6 starts of the year, Witt went 2-0 in 2 starts in the Championship, allowing only 4 er in 15.1 ip while striking out 11.

AWARD WINNERS

MVP AWARD - RF Koto Inokuma (Mochis Wranglers)
- 29yo / Japan - MWL MVP Awards: 1
- Season Stats: 64 g - 245 ab - .269 avg - 27 hr - 49 rbi - 45 r - 1 sb - .976 ops
- Career Stats: 179 g - 698 ab - .287 avg - 63 hr - 127 rbi - 112 r - 3 sb - .969 ops (winter/3 yrs)
471 g - 1791 ab - .261 avg - 132 hr - 314 rbi - 283 r - 9 sb - .866 ops (career/5 yrs)
- Overview: The former All-star of Seibu in the Japanese league has been the premier power hitter in Mexico since being traded to the Mochis. Crushing his own record of 20, Inokuma set the record for HR in a season in the MWL this year and walked away with his 1st MVP award as his power was simply unmatched. Also leading the league in RBI, Runs Scored, OPS & Vorp, Koto was easily the best and most dangerous hitter in Mexico this year.

CY YOUNG AWARD - SP Curt Witt (Mazatlan Black Hawks)
- 31yo / USA - MWL CY YOUNG Awards: 1
- Season Stats: 14 g - 14 gs - 8-1 rec - 0 sv - 2.49 era - 104.2 ip - 28 bb - 59 k - 1.05 whip
- Career Stats: 14 g - 14 gs - 8-1 rec - 0 sv - 2.49 era - 104.2 ip - 28 bb - 59 k - 1.05 whip (winter/1 yr)
63 g - 48 gs - 23-12 rec - 0 sv - 2.65 era - 403.2 ip - 86 bb - 275 k - 1.00 whip (career/3 yrs)
- Overview: Having pitched, and strugged, in both the IRL & MLB, Witt decided to try his hand in Mexico hoping to extend his career, and boy did he do that walking away with the award for the league's top pitcher in his 1st season in the league. There seem to be alot of outside factors into his choice as he was clearly not the best statistical pitcher in the MWL. However winning his last 6 of the regular season and going 2-0 in the championship while leading his team to both the top record in the league and MWL Championship. He did finish in the top 5 in ERA, Wins, Vorp, Opp Avg & Whip, but most experts has pegged Hernando Salazar as the best pitcher in the league this year.

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR - CL Rudy Novak (Hermosillo Victorians)
- 26yo / USA - MWL ROY Awards: 1
- Season Stats: 27 g - 0 gs - 4-2 rec - 16 sv - 1.43 era - 37.2 ip - 12 bb - 32 k - 0.88 whip

136 g - 0 gs - 6-10 rec - 67 sv - 2.96 era - 142.2 ip - 48 bb - 101 k - 1.11 whip (career/5 yrs)
- Overview: With 136 games & 142 ip, Novak is hardly a rookie to professional baseball, however all of but 11 ip of his time has been spent in either the IRL or MLB, making him a rookie in the eyes of voters. Ranking 7th overall in the league in saves, he was hardly one of the top closers in the league, however among rookie pitchers, his vorp dominated. With a solid 1st season as closer, he figures to be back with Hermosillo next year in the pen.

LEAGUE PREVIEW

Code:
1904 STANDINGS
Pacific League

Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec
Tohoku Rakuten Ninjas 97 49 .664 - 97-49 - Champs
Chiba Lotte Marines 72 74 .493 25.0 76-70
Seibu Lions 70 76 .479 27.0 69-77
Fukuoka Daiei Hawks 69 77 .473 28.0 70-76
Orix Buffaloes 67 79 .459 30.0 59-87
Nippon Fighters 63 83 .432 34.0 67-79
Team To Watch: Tohoku Rakuten Ninjas
- 2-time defending champs, set the record for most wins in a season the past 2 years, Tohoku is easily the team to pick in the Pacific. Despite losing 3-time All-star & cleanup hitter Eichiro Kimura to San Francisco via free agency, the Ninja did add 1B Terumoto Baba (.246/21/70/60-2 time AS) to replace him as their #4 hitter. Baba joins a very talented and balanced lineup featuring the likes of Kanzaburo Noda (.280/13/69/77/45), Tadamichi Sugitani (.230/18/83/68), Akira Fujii (.290/22/88/81) & Hugo Tacla (.318/10/43/74/12). But the real strength of Tohoku is their pitching. The Ninjas have had the best team pitching ERA each of the last 4 years and are anchored by 2-time reigning Cy Young Vittorio Patino (20-6/1.86). However he has plenty of help as the Ninjas feature 2 other ace quality SPs in 5-time All-star & former Cy Young winner Kamatari Takano (18-5/2.02) & Hideaki Shibasawa (17-9/3.74). Just to add to their pitching strength, fireman of the year Josuke Yamada (45 saves/1.31 era) closes things out for the best team in Japan.

Pitcher To Watch: SP Christy "Big Six" Mathewson (FUK)
- The only pitcher other than Patino & Takano with a legit shot at winning the Cy Young in the PL, Mathewson has really had a tough beginning to his career. The 1st pick in the 1900 rookie draft in the MLB, he was released and landed in Japan. What followed was 2 struggling seasons that resulted in a combined 24-23 record. Last year started ok, but ended with Big Six at 6-5 before shutting it down for the year with a Strained back. Still at only 24yo, he has plenty of time to re-establish himself. With the talent to be one of the world's top SPs, Mathewson needs a big season to get things back on track before a promising career fizzles out.

Hitter To Watch: RF Naoki Ageda (NIP)
- With Gary Wilson, Eichiro Kimura & John McGraw all in the MLB & Shohei Heida a shell of his former self, Ageda is now probably the top original player in Japan, not coming in during the 1901 Supplemental draft or in subsequent off-seasons. At 29yo, Naoki is a former MVP & 2-time All-star, however since winning the MVP in 1901 while hitting .392/22/136/113, Ageda has never come close to duplicating the success he had. Since then, he has never topped .291 in avg, 19 in hr, 87 in rbi or 77 in runs despite never having more than minor injuries and no decline in ratings. Many people wonder if it's Nippon continued losing seasons or if he just had a career year in 1901, but Ageda still remains one of the top players ratings-wise in Japan, and hopefully will bounce back with a big seasons this year.

Rookie To Watch: SP Tsumemasa Ibu (ORI)
- At #4, Ibu was probably the most talented SP in the draft but slipped to Orix. Potential overall of 54, and pitching talents of 7/9/10 with 17 endurance & 90mph fastball, Ibu projects to a top level starter in Japan. At 6'1/220, the 21 yo is huge by Japanese standards and for a team that has struggled to find consistent starters, Orix is hoping Ibu can fast track to the active roster, however he is probably atleast 1 year away.

Central League

Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec
Yakult Swallows 88 59 .599 - 88-59
Hiroshima Toyo Carp 87 60 .592 1.0 91-56
Yokohama Bay Stars 76 70 .521 11.5 71-75
Yomiuri Giants 76 70 .521 11.5 80-66
Hanshin Tiger 61 85 .418 26.5 61-85
Chunichi Dragon 51 95 .349 36.5 49-97
Team To Watch: Yakult Swallows
- Coming off their 1st CL pennant, Yakult is the favorite to win the league again mainly due to being the one contender who didn't lose any major players in the off-season. Hiroshima lost their ace & annual Cy Young threat SP Mike Ohler, Yokohama lost their cleanup hitter & #1 RBI man 1B Terumoto Baba and Yomiuri lost CF Patrice Fortier, one of the top all-around players in the league the past 2 seasons. Yakult returns the same team that won the league last year. On the hill they are led by 20 game winner Bob Hashbarger (20-7/2.83), one of the top pitchers in the league, Deacon Phillippe (15-9/2.80), 1st time AS last year Motonobu Ogura (16-7/2.48) & reigning ROY Kokei Kimura (11-9/3.63). At the plate, the lack a true superstar but instead have a balanced lineup with many all-star caliber hitters such as Shunsho Matsumura (.271/11/74/91), Jimmy Collins (.266/4/50/61/28), Dan Lund (.282/15/76/76/28), Tokuma Noda (.251/11/80/79/34) & Sen Tenno (.265/20/78/80/32). Lacking the trup power hitter or batting title contender, Yakult uses speed to their advantage, leading the league in SBs the past 2 seasons with 4 players having over 25 last year.

Pitcher To Watch: SP Rube Waddell (YOK)
- After making the All-star team in 1902 & 1903, many feel Waddell was snubbed last year in what was easily the best season of his career (11-5/1.71 era/0.82 whip). At 29yo, Waddell is one of the highest rated pitchers in Japan and with Mike Ohler now in the MLB, he is the favorite to walk away with the Central League Cy Young this year. He led the league in both ERA & Whip last year and should duplicate that success again this year as Yokohama's ace.

Hitter To Watch: 1b Wayne Spencer (HIR)
- Picking 4-time consecutive MVP Ed Delahanty here would be redundant, so instead, the 1903 ROY & 2-time All-star Spencer is getting the nod. As one of the top players in the league the past 2 seasons, Spencer is that raw breed of power and avg, hitting .312 with 20+ hr & 85+ rbi each of his 1st 2 years. At only 23yo, he is thought of as a future MVP, but with Big Ed getting older and Spencer getting better, the future might be now.

Rookie To Watch: CL Kata "Octopus" Yamasaki (HAN)
- In the 1st rd of the draft, the usual thought process is All-star caliber hitter or SP, very rarely looking at the pen. However Hanshin went for the top player available and landed Octopus, whose potential overall of 57 is tops in the draft class. With pitching talents of 13/12/16 and a 90mph fastball, it is easy to see that Yamasaki projects to on of the elite closers in Japan.

MLB - 1905 Season Preview

1905 MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL SEASON PREVIEW
(Report Date - 3/2/05)

LEAGUE PREVIEW

Code:
1904 STANDINGS
American League Eastern Division

Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec
Tampa Bay Devil Rays 100 62 .617 - 98-64 - Champs
Boston Red Sox 92 70 .568 8.0 85-77
New York (A) Yankees 90 72 .556 10.0 88-74
Baltimore Orioles 79 83 .488 21.0 75-87
Toronto Blue Jays 64 98 .395 36.0 70-92
Team To Watch: Tampa Bay Devil Rays
- The reigning World Series champs might have the best shot of all the previous winners of becoming the 1st repeat champs in MLB history. Tampa Bay was relatively quiet in the off-season, neither adding or losing any free agents. Their one trade involved sending a backup catcher to Detroit in exchange for All-star CF Takao Ishikawa (.295/3/71/81/26). Ishikawa will be the D-Rays new leadoff man and joins one of the most talented lineups in baseball, with 3-time AL MVP Ron Cronwell (.373/40/130/129) leading the way. Power hitting Eduardo Villagomez (.236/31/115/82) is the team's cleanup hitter and Cenon Hernandez (.301/17/100/78) & Honor Suarez (.282/9/74/80/23) round out their top hitters. On the hill, the trio of former Cy Young Ezequiel Cano (16-10/3.48) & All-stars Jim St. Vrain (17-11/2.48) & George Winter (13-7/4.07) give Tampa 3 solid starters and closer Hitoshi Azuma (39 saves/2.73) has been one of the best in baseball since it's inception 5 years ago.

Pitcher To Watch: SP Lee MacHarold (BAL)
- The 3-time All-star & 1903 Cy Young winner has been one of the tops in baseball since 1902, going 56-25 with a 2.68 era over the 3-yr span. At 28yo, MacHarold is in his prime and could very well have the best ratings in baseball of 19/18/19. Add in 95mph gas and 5 devasting pitches, and it's easy to see why he has ranked among the best in the AL in wins, era & whip each of hte past 3 seasons. MacHarold could keep Baltimore in the hunt single-handedly, already leading them to a World Series title in 1903 and 2 playoff berths.

Hitter To Watch: RF Armando Capois (BOS)
- Steve Reid of St. Louis gets all the hype as being the best former IRL MVP in the majors, however Capois also won the IRL MVP in 1900 and has carved a very nice niche up in Boston. With 2 consecutive AL all-star bids and careen averages of .324, 13 hr, 87 rbi, 104 runs & 14 sb, the 23 yo is slowly emerging as one of the games top all-around talents. Moving from #6 to #3 in the order this year, Capois will be expected to keep producing at a high level and if last year's .343 avg is any indication, expect him to do just that.

Rookie To Watch: SP "Buffalo" Bill Hogg (NYY)
- While a notch below #1 & #2 picks Overall & Buchanan in terms of talent, the Yankees landed the player with the best potential overall rating in Buffalo Bill at #3. Starting the season in the pen for the Yanks, the 23yo Hogg expects that to be short lived as he is definitely suited to being a SP and a top one at that. With potential ratings of 8/20/10, he has one of the higher stuff ratings for a rookie and with a splitter with tremendous movement to go with his 90mph fastball, he projects to a front line SP and a strikeout artist to boot.

1904 STANDINGS
American League Central Division

Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec
Detroit Tigers 93 69 .574 - 94-68
Minnesota Twins 85 77 .525 8.0 87-75
Chicago (A) White Sox 77 85 .475 16.0 69-93
Kansas City Royals 77 85 .475 16.0 77-85
Cleveland Indians 66 96 .407 27.0 68-94
Team To Watch: Detroit Tigers
- Until proven otherwise, Detroit gets the nod in the Central due to an amazing resume. 4 division pennants in 5 years and the 5th missing out by only 4 games, their record is unmatched in the division. Their off-season consisted of just 2 puzzling trades, which probably did not strengthen the team dramatically but also didn't hurt it much. First they sent an All-star, but expendable CF in Ishikawa to Tampa getting 35yo catcher Dan Cromwell (.308/3/44/64) in return, and he will split time with 2nd red pick, rookie Ed Mills. Next they sent 3b Pasqual Huaman, another starter but also expendable, adding a #4 SP in return in Doc Reisling (7-9/3.48) from SD. Reisling will join a very talented rotaion featuring 4 other solid starters in Bob Alleman (18-12/3.87), Gene McCann (18-13/3.17), Ed Poole (17-15/3.07) & Erubiel Clemente (14-11/5.22) giving the Tigers one of the best & deepest 5 man staffs in baseball. At the dish, the 5-time All-star and one of the game's most consistent players Joe McMurrich (.296/25/102/106/38) and emerging star, SS Feitze Marijnissen (.305/26/119/98/20) lead the way.

Pitcher To Watch: SP War Sanders (KC)
- The 11th pick in the 1902 draft by Minnesota, Sanders was dealt to KC for a backup SS & a 2nd rd pick...what a steal for the Royals. Since bursting on the scene in 1903, Sanders has been KC's top pitcher with a 2 yr record of 34-22 with a 3.45 era. Now at 27 yo and fully entrenched as the team's ace, War should make his 1st all-star team this year coming of an 18 win season and could be a future Cy Young contender if he continues to improve as he has in his 1st 2 seasons.

Hitter To Watch: RF Bob "Doodles" Andrews (CLE)
- Well it looks like Joe McMurrich of Detroit finally has some competition for top hitter in the division. Andrews had a solid 1st season with Cleveland last year after 4 stellar ones in St. Louis, hitting .312 with 23 hr, 113 rbi & 91 runs. At 35, Doodles is at the tailend of a great career, but still has the ratings to produce at a high level and be an All-star. 5 consecutive seasons hitting over .300, over 20 hr and over 110 rbi and Andrews can also rival McMurrich's consistentency.

Newcomer To Watch: SP Dick Harley (CLE)
- First off, his name is D-i-c-k, or a nickname of Richard if the stars still block it out. A surpise at #4 mainly due to his age (30 yo), Harley has the talents to be a top pitcher in baseball, however his shelf life is much shorter than that of the other top picks. Skipping the minors, Harley will slide in immediately behind Ham Iburg as the Indians' #2 SP. His ratings of 5/19/12 are fully maxed and with a 20 in endurance, he figures to make an immediate impact and contend for ROY.

American League Western Division

Team W L PCT GB Pyt.Rec
Los Angeles (A) Angels 94 68 .580 - 95-67
Texas Rangers 82 80 .506 12.0 84-78
Seattle Mariners 74 88 .457 20.0 75-87
Oakland Athletics 61 101 .377 33.0 68-94
Team To Watch: Los Angeles (A) Angels
- Despite being one of the older teams in baseball, the Angels are still the pick in the West. Texas, Seattle or Oakland just didn't do enough to knock off the reigning pennant winners. Anaheim didn't do much in the off-season other than the draft. Adding 2 1st rd picks in CF Solly Hofman & C Dave Simpson, the Angels have strengthen their minor league team and their future as neither will start the year with the big league club. Offensively, the Angels are led by 2-time MVP Jorge Balcorta (.380/20/80/127/24) & former 1st rd pick Chet Fibbin (.282/24/129/94/26) but have a nice supporting cast in Jim Alsup (.295/10/81/92), Tony Camorena (.252/19/114/92) & Jerry Blakeslee (.291/10/81/62) as well as some other decent everyday players. On the hill, they have a true ace in the only 2-time Cy Young Winner, Marvin Henkle (13-9/2.90), but have a great rotation overall featuring Carl Lundgren (17-8/4.00), John Clinkscales (12-6/3.53) & Lance van Cleave (14-14/5.03).

Pitcher To Watch: SP "Big" Ed Walsh (TEX)
- Having the best possible 1st season a player can have, Big Ed not only won the AL ROY but also was named the league's top pitcher winning the Cy Young award. Still a baby at 23, Walsh still has some room to improve before maxing his talents at 8/20/17, truly remarkable ratings. Coming off a 20-win/sub 2.50 era season, some people are predicting he might suffer from the sophmore jinx, however don't expect that to happen. With a solid offense behind him and as the Rangers' top pitcher, Walsh should be a perrennial Cy Young candidate and 18+ game winner.

Hitter To Watch: RF Socks Seybold (SEA)
- The former 1st rd pick has started his career with 4 fantastic seasons, hitting .330 or better every year, driving in 65+, scoring 75+ & stealing 30+ while making 2 all-star teams and winning 3 gold gloves. But at the age of 34yo, his skills are beginning to diminish slightly, and with only 1 playoff appearance, his window as one of the top players in the game might be closing. The team leader all 4 years with the clob, Socks figures to again lead Seattle in most offensive categories, however he needs help to get them back to the playoffs like he did in 1903 when they won their only AL West title.

Rookie To Watch: SP Orval Overall (OAK)
- Oakland has had the unfortunate title of the game's worst team thru 5 years and thus has always had one of the top picks in the draft. Always taking a pitcher, they have all been busts until last year, when #2 overall pick Fred Glade went 15-17 with a 3.19 era in his 1st season. This year, the choice was consensus #1 overall, Orval Overall. At only 24, he is already talented enough to slide immediately into the A's rotation as their #3 starter. With potential ratings of 9/20/14, 20 endurance and 88mph fastball, Overall has the makings of being one of the game's elite. If he lives up to the hype, he & Glade could be the 2 cornerstones that finally turn around the major's most abysmal franchise.

- Slowly but surely, the Phillies have improved each year, going from 60 wins and 36 games out in 1900 to only 13 out last year. Building thru the draft, Philly has a solid base of young stars. This off-season though, they decided to make a big splash in the off-season and made the most additions of any club. Without losing anyone, they added Johnny Green (.265/13/95/88) & Bill Kile (.339/22/108/72) and their combined 7 all-star appearances to an already talented team as the veteran leaders. Green & Kile should do wonders for the likes of 30yo Topsy Hartsel (.333/4/88/95/37), 25yo Art Devlin (.311/0/45/90/36), 26yo Emanuel Choury (.276/12/94/64) & 26yo Miller Huggins (.285/0/33/80/36). While lacking an ace, the Phillies do have 2 above avg starters in Chale Otero (12-13/4.50) & Win Kellum (15-15/2.99), but the rest of both the starting staff & bullpen is very ordinary, which could be their downfall.

Pitcher To Watch: SP Doc White (NYM)
- White is coming off an injury plagued season inwhich he finished 14-9 but with a 4.35 era, the highest of his 4 year career. Even so, since 1902, he has averaged 17 wins a season and has made the NL All-star team twice. Still very young at only 25, Doc is fully maxed and posses some of the best ratings in the game at 8/20/19. Assuming he can stay healthy, he should make a run at 20 wins for the 1st time in his career and should go back to his All-star form.

Hitter To Watch: C Bill Kile (PHI)
- The addition of Kile is going to be HUGE for the Phillies. Catchers are not historically known for being great hitters. Yes every once in awhile a superstar hitter comes along, but it is rare. Kile is beyond a superstar hitter, he is one of the best ever. In his 1st 5 years in the league with the Yankees, Kile has career averages of .345 with 30 hr, 106 rbi & 100 runs, some of the best in the league even though he has to deal with the wear & tear of squating for 9 innings everyday. Still young at 30, he already is a 4-time All-star and his knees should hold up for the duration of the 5 year deal he signed behind the plate. Expect him to contend for the NL MVP and lead the Phils to the top of the NL East in the near future.

Rookie To Watch: SP Big Jeff Pfeffer (ATL)
- Over the years, Atlanta's staff has featured some of the top pitchers in all of the world including Marvin Henkle, Vittorio Patino, Ben Vineyard & Marquez Fileto. All but Vineyard are gone now, and he is a shell of him former self after a devasting season ending torn tricep injury in 1902. Enter Pfeffer, the #14 pick in the draft, and the new ace and poster-boy for superstar hurlers. At only 22, his ratings have maxed out already at 7/20/11 and he figures to not only contend for NL ROY but be one of the top pitchers in the NL this year, and for many years to come.

Milwaukee Brewers 65 97 .401 30.0 65-97
Team To Watch: Chicago (N) Cubs
- The former loveable losers are coming off their 1st playoff appearance and appear to be the favorite to win the Central this year. While keeping last year's team intact, Chicago added 2 1st rd pick SPs to their rotation making them a much stronger team. Herman Scott & George Disch join a staff featuring Don Lee (18-9/2.63), Iwane Iwahara (16-11/3.63) & Jack McFetridge (12-16/5.29), giving Chicagon one of the deepest rotations in baseball. Much like their pitching staff, their lineup lacks a true star but instead is extrememly deep. 6 of their 8 regulars had solid years last year and are all back. Derek Sharples (.333/4/61/47/14 in only 92 games), Roger Brenenson (.341/0/72/88/44), Cecil Falconer (.344/16/103/99), Greg Tripp (.311/6/70/88/41), Bill Coughlin (.286/4/66/68/36) & Jake Stahl (.285/3/63/106/53) form one of the best small ball teams in baseball.

Pitcher To Watch: SP Weldon Henley (CIN)
- Teammate CJ Earp's story has been well told already, but fellow Reds stud pitcher Weldon Henley flies under the radar. The #2 overall pick in 1902 strugged a bit in his rookie season, going a combined 10-13 with a 4.25 era between the minors and majors. However the 24yo broke out last year in his 1st full season in the bigs, going 17-8 with a 3.17 era as Cincy's #2 behind Earp. Returning to that role this year, Henley is expected to improve even more off of last season and might give the Reds the best 1-2 punch in baseball if Earp continues to remain healthy.

Hitter To Watch: 2b Steve "Pistol" Reid (STL)
- Pistol is in his 5th season and seems to be over the injuries that plagued him early in his career. At 24yo, he is truly one of the game's best young stars as evidenced by last year's 1st MVP award. Setting a career high with a .375 avg, Reid also seems to be developing more power, hitting 20+ each of the last 2 seasons while driving in 100+. Only expected to get better and better, it is tough to see the ceiling on how good he can be. Amazingly he is doing all of this from the 2b position, making it even more impressive as rarely do you see such a dangerous hitter at that position.

Rookie To Watch: SP George Disch (CHN)
- Slipping all the way to #20 overall, Disch has the talent to be the best pitcher in the draft. Starting his career as the Cubs #2 SP behind vet Don Lee, it is only a matter of time until Disch is the team's ace and #1 pitcher. Despite only have a 3 in stuff talent, his 20 in movement & 17 in control are simply deadly. The biggest drawback to the 25yo might be his endurance, as it is only a 13/20. However, even if he can only go 7 innings or so, he should dominate in those 7 innings, and if Chicago is as good as expected, Disch has a shot at duplicated Ed Walsh's feat of ROY & Cy Young winner this year.

San Diego Padres 68 94 .420 20.0 74-88
Team To Watch: San Diego Padres
- With 5 consecutive last place finishes in the West, picking the Pads to win the pennant might be ludacris, but it could very well happen. One of the best young group of players from year's of high draft picks, SD has a backbone of talented young studs such as SP Matt Colter (17-14/3.55), SP Frank Owen (12-14/4.00), RF Irv Waldron (.329/0/41/88/45), C Scott Garnett (.288/10/73/51) & 1b Eric Marshall (.242/6/61/53). And then there are the additions, and boy are their alot. Starting with the trade for IF Pascual Huaman (.277/6/76/73/45) and then the free agent additions of 2-time MVP Xavier Delaluz (.333/20/71/99/22), former Cy Young Porfiro Moncivaiz (13-17/3.97) & 4-time Allstar closer Jose Arellanos (38 saves/1.55) and San Diego suddenly went from 5th place to possible NL West pennant winner.

Pitcher To Watch: SP Mike Ohler (ARI)
- Welcome back to the big time Mr. Ohler. After starting his career 31-12 in a year and a half with the Mets, Ohler has spent the last 3 1/2 seasons in Japan. All he did there was continue to dominate, winning a Cy Young while going 42-25 with a 2.21 era over his time there. And now he's back, signed to a 3 year deal with Arizona, he is coming in as their ace. Pitching has always been the downfall of the D-Backs, who consistently have one of the best lineups in baseball while always producing MVP caliber players. If Ohler can continue to pitch the was he did in Japan and before that in the majors in this his 2nd stint, and watch out, because Arizona might be back on top in the West.

Hitter To Watch: LF Chris Muirhead (SF)
- He's been discusses before but it is time to mention him again. At 26yo, Muirhead is a former ROY & has made the NL AS team all 5 years of it's existance. And scary enough, that's just the beginning. He had a tremedous off-season and has improved both his current and talent ratings up to a 19/20 in contact, 17/20 in power & 16/20 in eye. Considering before this improvement, he is a career .334 hitter with 23 hr, 91 rbi & 110 runs per year, improving on those could mean only 1 thing. MVP and batting title winner.

Rookie To Watch: SP Jake Thielman (LA)
- As the 5th overall pick, Thielman might be in the best position to immediately succeed in the majors. With his home being pitcher friendly Dodger stadium, Thielman has the luxary of beginning his career on a great staff as the #5 sp with little to no pressure. At 25yo, he is fully developed with ratings of 4/20/16 and 20 in endurance. With plenty of mentors on the Dodgers and in a comfortable position, Thielman might sneak up on people, tough to do picked #5 overall though and could very well be the top rookie in the league.

Washington League East Division

Missoula Osprey 59 41 .590 - 62-38
Idaho Falls Chukers 56 44 .560 3.0 52-48

Orem Owlz 47 53 .470 12.0 52-48
Ogden Raptors 44 56 .440 15.0 47-53
Team To Watch: Ogden Raptors
- The only 2-time champion in the IRL, Ogden struggled last year as the worst team in the WL East, but figures to be back near the top this year. 3 newcomers figure to lead this team this year, all on the offensive side. 17th overall pick in the draft, Candy J Taylor, 25th overall pick Saul Leopoldo & 27th overall pick Frank Schulte all project to solid major leaguers for the Braves, who really bolstered their future with these 3 selections. 4th rd pick Hobe Razio & Harry Dunbar (7-9/2.97) are the team's top 2 SPs and the dual closer team of RH Adam Batchelor (12 saves) & LH Mo-ruo Jung (11 saves) allow them to matchup great in relief.

Pitcher To Watch: SP Brian Torpy (BIL)
- A 1st rd pick in 1903, Torpy had a decent 1st season in the minors last year, going 8-9 with a 3.42 for Billings. Now as the team's #1 SP, the 23yo looks to improve his stats and get his ratings closer to their potential of 9/15/10. Also having a 17 in endurance and an 89 mph fastball, Torpy projects to a back end starter for Baltimore.

Hitter To Watch: RF Frank "Wildfire" Schulte (OGD)
- The 3rd of Atlanta's 1st rd picks, Schulte projects to the best at the MLB level. A 13 in contact, 7 in power, 15 in eye & 17 in speed, Schulte looks to be a .275 hitter with 15 hrs and 25+ sb. At only 22yo, he is a long ways away from maxing his talents, so figure him to spend a year or 2 in the minors before seeing time with the Braves.

Boise Hawks 41 59 .410 13.0 40-60
Team To Watch: Eugene Emeralds
- After winning the division in 1901, Eugene has never finished better than 3rd in the WL Central, however they are the favorites in the division this year. With a solid top 3 in the rotation in 9th overall pick Roberto Soberanez, Oscar Hinton (8-7/3.94) & Bill Cornelison (5-6/4.49), the Emralds have great starting pitching. At the plate, team leaders figure to be Dan Robinson (.217/11/33/35/21) & Amadeo Anela (.250/8/31/37)

Pitcher To Watch: SP Leonardo Montanez (BOI)
- The former 10th pick overall in the 1903 draft, Montanez struggled last year (6-11/4.21) but still projects to a solid MLB pitcher for Boston. Talent ratings of 9/15/12 and a 16 endurance, Leonardo is a power pitcher with a 92 mph fastball and 4 solid pitches.

Hitter To Watch: 1b George "Firebrand" Stovall (TRI)
- Falling to the 5th rd, Cleveland landed a solid player in the draft in Stovall. Projecting to a solid .300 hitter in the majors, he has talent ratings of 15 contact/3 power/18 eye and great defense at 1b (20). At 27yo and still needing some time in the minors, his ceiling might be limited though.

Everett Aquasox 48 52 .480 10.0 47-53
Team To Watch: Brooklyn Cyclones
- Brooklyn is the reigning West champs and has won 2 of the last 3 West pennants and look to be the favorite for their 3rd this year. With 4 terrific SPs all returning, the Cyclones are one of the top ptiching teams in all of the IRL. Hamed Rudo (13-5/3.36), Roman Alicpa (11-7/4.06), Andy Cline (10-4/3.16) & Andy Boone (7-2/5.19) give Brooklyn 4 battle tested and quality SPs. Closer Mark Gessler is also back after a 17 save/2.62 era season. At the dish, the 1-2 punch of 2nd rd pick Eric Welker & Bill Sill (.219/4/24/21) figure to lead the way.

Pitcher To Watch: SP John Watkins (EVE)
- The 19yo Watkins was the 26th overall pick in the draft by the Reds and while being a long way from the majors, he projects to being a very solid big leaguer. With potential ratings of 8/13/14, 15 endurance and 89mph fastball, he has all the makings of leading Everett and a middle to back end starter for Cincy. Again, he is a long long way from the majors (3/1/4 current ratings), so expect 2 to 3 seasons in the IRL for Watkins.

Hitter To Watch: RF Leon Betancourt (VAN)
- The 25yo Betancourt has been profiled before, but now in his 4th professional season, he has never seen an AB at the major league level. He has also never lived up to the billing with career avg of .237/6/23/28 in his 3 years. He still has the potential to be a solid MLB player with 11 in contact, 12 in power and 9 in eye, but now at 25 and nearly maxed out, he needs to start producing this season for Vancouver.

Williamsport Crosscutters 37 63 .370 20.0 41-59
Team To Watch: Auburn Doubledays
- As the early dominate team in the LL East, Auburn won back to back pennants in 1900 & 1901 but since have fallen on hard times going from 2nd to 4th over the next 3 years. With 3 of the IRL's best hitters, Auburn looks like they might be back on top this year. Reigning LL MVP Moose McCormick (.329/6/46/63/27) is back, and is joined by a pair of potential stars in 1st rd pick Hal Chase & 3rd rd pick Jorge Calisto. If all 3 spend the entire season in the IRL, any/all could vie for the MVP award. Although they struggled a bit last year, top 2 starters Roldao Estreito (8-9/4.31) & Jack Sargeant (7-10/4.60) as well as closer Andy Denoon (23 saves/4.22) also all return.

Pitcher To Watch: SP Harry "Hans" Ables (WIL)
- It seems like every year Williamsport has a pitcher profiled, and this year it is 3rdf rd pick Ables. With projected ratings of 7/20/10, he has MLB talent although lacks the endurance (11) to be a superstar at the ML level. Even so, he is only 20yo, and has plenty of time to develop arm strength and refine his game as Houston doesn't need him in the bigs and he should have plenty of time in the IRL this year.

Hitter To Watch: 1b "Prince" Hal Chase (AUB)
- While teammate Moose McCormick is the reigning MVP, Chase projects to the better major leaguer. The 22yo slipped to the last pick in the 1st rd and was drafted by the Yankees who promptly dealt him to the Dodgers for a 3rd rd pick and cash. With talent ratings of 16 in contact & eye, Chase projects to a .320+ MLB hitter, although he lacks any power with only a 3/20 potential rating and LA might have gotten a steal from the Yanks.

Mahoning Valley Scappers 45 55 .450 13.5 48-52
Team To Watch: Hagerstown Suns
- Last year's champs have made the IRL World Series the past 2 seasons and their pitching could very well get them back there again this year. 12th overall pick Ed Barry joins Barney Pelty (7-7/3.23) & Victor Corless (8-6/5.26) at the top of the rotation. While not as good as the season's they had Pelty, Frank Owen, Chick Robitaille & Doc Reisling, they are still one of the top pitching teams in the league. Ed Whetstone (.283/19/71/50) is back leading the way at the plate & the LL's leader in HR & RBI last year figures to produce much of the same this year.

Pitcher To Watch: SP Barney "The Yiddish Curver" Pelty (HAG)
- Doc Reisling was traded and Frank Owen & Chick Robitaille are up with SD, so Pelty now takes the reigns as Hagerstown's ace and the Padres' top pitcher in the minors. Going 7-7 in his 1st year, the former 3rd rd pick was ok, but not as good as the others. Now at 24yo, Pelty has maxed his ratings at 6/20/17 and his stint in the minors figures to be short lived as he certainly will be up with San Diego soon, but while he is in the IRL, look for him to dominate.

Hitter To Watch: 3b Ryan Tunnicliffe (DEL)
- Tunnicliffe is 39yo, and has spent most of the past 2 seasons with Milwaukee in the MLB. But his age is catching up to him and his ratings are declining. A career .313 ML hitter & .438 minor league hitter, Tunnicliffe has always been able to hit, but how much more could a player nearing 40yo have left in the tank.

Lakewood Blueclaws 42 58 .420 23.0 38-62
Team To Watch: Asheville Tourists
- I said it last year, I'll say it again, until proven otherwise, Asheville is the team to beat. 3 consecutive LL West pennants, 2 2nd place finishes before that, and you can see why such a statement is made. The scary part is this Tourists team might be the best of the bunch. 4 future MLB stars are the quad-aces and any of Frank Corridon (10-11/3.51), Hooks Wiltse (8-6/3.72), Pop Williams (8-8/5.67) or 2nd rd pick Irv Young can win the LL Cy Young award. At the plate, the 1-2 of Patricio Algria (.263/7/20/29) & 2nd rd pick Duncan Spencer will lead the way.

Pitcher To Watch: SP Irv "Young Cy" Young (ASH)
- The player with one of the best nicknames will have to do alot to live up to it to match Cy Young's 334 career wins. At 27 yo, he will also have to do it fast and get to the majors. But the 2nd rd pick does project to a super MLB pitcher with talents of 5/20/16. His major problem might be a logjam of arms in the SF organization and he might get caught up in a numbers game.

Hitter To Watch: LF Amistad Cano (WV)
- Always playing in Romano Charana's shadow, Cano has now established himself as the best hitter on the Power. Coming off a .254/16 hr/59 rbi season, Cano has his breakout year and now projects to a solid 4th OF for the Cardinals. With talent ratings of 12 in contact & 11 in power, his major downfall is striking out with only a 6 in eye. Also, as an OF, he does now have the necessary stud rating to be an everyday player, but he should see time in the majors this season coming off the bench for St. Louis.

Team Spotlight: Chiba Lotte Marines
- Despite trailing the 2-time *** Champs by 5 games, Chiba Lotte is only 3 out in the pyt record and are the only team with a shot to dethrone the Ninjas this season. Where Tohoku dominates the PL in pitching, the Marines do the same in hitting, leading all of Japan in team avg & HR and leading the Pacific in runs scored. With Katagiri & Kawaii leading the way, Chiba Lotte has 4 regulars in the All-star game and have 5 players hitting over .300 and 5 with 35+ rbi at the break.

Pitcher Spotlight: SP Vittorio Patino (TOH)
- It's pretty sickening what Patino is doing in his career. Yes, it's old news, but come on, 3 straight 20 win seasons in the MLB, then comes to Japan, dominates and wins 2 Cy Youngs and 2 championships. So what does he do, have the best 1st half of his career this year. Leading all of the *** in ERA, Wins, IP, Strikeouts & Vorp, barring an injury, we might as well hand him his 3rd Cy Young award and crown him the best pitcher of the early existance of my baseball universe.

Hitter Spotlight: CF Naoki Ageda (NIP)
- It's scary to think how many more categories Ageda would be leading the league in if not for a 10 day injured ankle. As it is, playing only 59 games, he is hitting nearly 0.50 better than the 2nd best highest avg and he leads all of the *** in OPS, Hits & Vorp as well as leading the Pacific in Runs and ranking 2nd in HR.

Rookie Spotlight: C Akahito Komagata (NIP)
- As the only rookie on the PL All-star team, the 2nd rd pick in the 1st rookie draft in 1900 is surely coming into his own in his 1st season as a starter for Nippon. All Komagata is doing is leading all Pacific League rookies in all 18 offensive categories and would do the same in all the *** if not for Keitaro Kichiga of Hanshin who has 5 more hits and 3 more doubles.

Team Spotlight: Hiroshima Toyo Carp
- Hiroshima has gotten close but always come up short, finished 2nd and 1 game out last year and have 3, 5 & 6 games behind finishes in their history, however this might just be their season. Leading all of the *** in runs scored and leading the CL in team avg, they have the offense. Ranking 2nd in the Central in ERA & Opp Avg and leading in Strikeouts & CG, they have the pitching. With a CL leading 7 All-stars, they have the superstar players. Now they just have to keep it going thru the 2nd half.

Pitcher Spotlight: CL Sukejuro "Hook" Kiyomizu (YAK)
- With no dominate SP in the Central League this season, we might be looking at our 1st ever Cy Young coming from the bullpen. While it is unlikely, it is hard to argue that he hasn't been the best pitcher in the CL thru the All-star break. With a ridiculous 0.44 era and a perfect 16 for 16 in saves ranking him 3rd, this 1st year closer is having a remarkable 1st season in that role and might be the favorite to win the award for top pitcher.

Hitter Spotlight: 2B Yeijiro Aoki (HAN)
- Breaking news folks, Ed Delahanty might NOT win the MVP. Wiinning the award 4 straight times in the CL, he is trailing Aoki in the race at the midway point this year. Aoki leads the CL in Vorp at the midway point and while his avg is slightly less than Big Ed's, he has more HR, RBI, Runs and a higher OPS. If things continues, Delahanty's dominance over the CL might come to and end, but it might take his teammate to knock him from the throne.

Rookie Spotlight: SP Seisi Izumi (YOM)
- With no rookie dominating or making the All-star team in the Central, Izumi gets the nod for leading all Japan rookie pitchers in ERA (3.39), wins (4-5), IP, strikeouts and Vorp.
