TE Matt Schobel has signed with the Eagles...or rumour has it. Minor deal, but a deal nonetheless.

I'm sure Vinatieri will be back, but I'd be VERY surprised to see Givens in a Patriots uniform. I mean.. why would they even want him back?

Because he's the 2nd best receiver on the team and 3-5 are a pretty far cry from him?

Exactly. The Pats pride themselves on depth, but they have none at WR.

DE Darren Howard from New Orleans has signed a 6 year deal with the Eagles.

Very nice pickup.

Just a couple of other signings, no terms on any of these but they can be found on most major sports sites:

Cowboys signed LB Akin Ayodele to a 5-year deal.
Saints signed LB Scott Fujita to a 4-year deal.

The Eagles' cap management skills make me jealous, even as a Patriots fan.

I'm not sure what happened with Bentley but they had reached a verbal agreement and then he turned and went to Cleveland. That would have been a HUGE signing.

I'm guessing the 800 extensions to free agent signing period plus the added cap space didn't help them.

But.. he's not on the team.

He also can't play a full season, won't sign as cheaply as he did last year, and the Patriots played better (in terms of winning) in the past two seasons when he wasn't a big part of the gameplan. His route running needs some work, and he's not as big of a vertical threat as the Patriots would like in the #2 spot. Other teams may overvalue him, seeing as how the remaining crop of FA WR's pretty much sucks. If they don't.. of course there's a chance he'd be back, but I'd be surprised if some team isn't stupid enough to think he's good enough to play in the #1 spot.

By the way.. saying he's better than Zuriel Smith, Childress and McGrew or whoever the heck their #5 would be right now.. isn't much of a selling point. That's assuming Bethel Johnson jumps to #2 on the Patriots roster of actual signed players for the moment.

He was significantly better than 3-5 last year as well when it was Troy Brown, Johnson, etc. This is a much better team with Givens present than not. I don't think the Pats should keep him at any cost or anything stupid like that, but he's a solid weapon who they should make an effort to keep. They certainly should want him back. I'm not sure where you got that idea.

Giants signed CB R.W. McQuarters to a three year, $6 million contract.
Redskins and DE Andre Carter have agreed on a six-year, $30 million contract.
Panthers signed DT Damione Lewis to a two-year deal worth $6-8 million.

I'm hoping, just hoping, on my knees, that San Diego will try to sign Drew Brees.

According to CBS Sportsline, the free agent signing period ends on April 21 in preparation for the draft on the 29-30. So, just as a heads up to anyone who cares or might be interested, I'm probably going to be compiling off-season, pre-draft grades for all 32 teams.

Sounds good, very much looking forward to it.

Givens, given the chance to be a #1 somewhere, couldn't turn it down. I feel sorry for the Titans now.

I also heard McGinest is awfully close to signing with Cleveland. Wonderful.
