Uribe's wife goes into labor, he is scratched from the lineup at the last minute...Cintron has the GW 3-Run HR (his first of the year by the way). Hmmm.....Turning point of the season???? Wait and see how the Tigers react to this one and whether the ChiSox continue this momentum.

I'll take that two out of three from the Tigers.

Sounds like they're finally going to ship Anderson back to Charlotte. About damn time. I like Mackowiak a lot better anyway.

7 weeks until the trading deadline. Anyone think Kenny Williams has already begun looking? Not that I wish ill will on anyone, but I'm glad Nelson is done for the year. Just something about the signing didn't sit well with me. Shame on Politte if he was injured and trying to play through it....didn't he learn from Marte? Cotts had a great outing this weekend and it seems that Jenks is in a great groove. It had the 12-6 curveball working, to compliment his fastball.

Well, looking forward to going to the games against Cleveland on sat and sun. Hopefully that can beat Sabathia this weekend. They need to get at least 2 out of 3 this weekend.

Yeah, I never felt comfortable when Jeff Nelson came in. Hopefully, Cliff can get himself sorted out and return to something more resembling the previous 2 years...

Here's what I'm thinking the Sox could do to help patch some holes, as it's becoming increasingly obvious obvious that Rob Mackowiak is not a center fielder (if you could just mush him and Brian Anderson together, you'd have...um...Aaron Rowand). Anyhow, a big weakness is the lack of true reserve outfielders - Mackowiak, Ozuna and Gload are not the ticket out there.

1) Acquire a legitimate backup outfielder who can also play first base...something like a replacement-level Lance Berkman, or a John Mabry type.

2) Send Ross Gload someplace where he can actually get some playing time. KW can probably get some bullpen help for him.

Wait, I thought when they dealt Rowand that they were ok because they had Brian Anderson and Joe Borchard in the wings.... funny how stuff like that works out.

The offensive production that Thome has provided has already proven to be a great trade. All that the Sox were asking from Anderson (in my opinion) was to bat around .250. Although Rowand was batting .287 around this time last year, Crede and Uribe were in the .250s. There was at least a balance of hitting.

I mean really, .158? They would be more patient with Anderson if he were batting around .200.

But keep in mind, I believe the Sox have lost more games because of their bullpen. I don't think Anderson's lack of hitting has cost the Sox any games (although he could have helped win a couple). KW will focus making the bullpen stronger first.

That's exactly what they thought. Then they dealt Borchard for Thornton (the Sox definitely got the better end of that deal), and Anderson just hasn't lived up to expectations. Kinda makes me wish that the Sox had been able to hang on to Jeremy Reed - as I recall, the M's were interested in Borchard back in '04, but KW considered him "untouchable" at the time...I'd much rather have Reed than Anderson...

thome & anderson vs rowand & thomas - interesting to see how that would have played out. i still think thome's gonna miss more time over the year due to injuries. frank has been hot lately but he's still nowhere near thome

The Rowand deal is one that's really worked out well for both teams, in my opinion.

I was leery of Anderson when the deal was made and it sucks to have been proven right.

Is our bullpen really that bad? I thought it was pretty good with Politte, Jenks, McCarthy, et. al.

Have you seen Politte pitch this year? He's getting whacked around much like Takatsu was last year once the AL figured him out, and much like Koch was when he lost his velocity.

FWIW, Politte's on the DL at the moment.

The main thing is that Politte & Cotts haven't been lights-out like they were last year. Boone Logan wasn't even close to ready for major league hitters, but McCarthy's been pretty solid, and Thornton's been a pleasant surprise.

It's not like the Sox bullpen is bad, they're just not as dominant as they were last year.

Still, 2 straight come-from-behind victories against Cleveland - that's two series wins in a row, both against divisional foes!

Remember back in '04, when Ozzie was letting Jon get out of the jams he would get himself into? And how everybody referred to that as being a great confidence booster when he put together his great first half last year?

...I don't think Ozzie is as confident in him any more...

It's referenced in the "Sox Rookie Gets Demoted" thread, but the Sox have picked up RP David Riske from Boston in exchange for AAAA reliever Javier Lopez...

The Sox picked up a proven solid relievier (career ERA of 3.55 in 327 innings), and Lopez was going nowhere fast. I like this trade.

Not to mention in those 6 games the Sox have scored a total of 69 runs. The offense is on fire right now.
