Henry Armstrong's first professional opponent.

Al was a terrific puncher whose fists killed Leo Mahan in an amateur fight in 1928. He fought 78 amateur fights and only 25 professional fights. He reached the 1927 National AAU finals in Cincinnati and was in the Olympic Trials in 1928. He was an excelent counter-puncher.

He is best known for scoring a 3rd knockout victory over Henry Armstrong in Henry's first pro fight on July 27, 1931.
