I appreciate the ...

... help, Chris. Two less photos without files in my database, and I expect Yodsanan will get some competitive use soon.

Two New Boxers for My Uni

Could not find these guys anywhere, so I rated them as both began their careers in 1915, which is where I am in my Uni. One, Eddie (Kid) Wagner, is rated as a 7 (LW) and the second, Vincent (Pepper) Martin, is rated as a 4 (FW). Both were ranked by Ring magazine in the 1920s as JLWs.

Brian Minto -- who has rated him?

Hi,
I bought Title Bout a couple of days ago, and really like it. I know that a couple of people on the forum have rated Axel Schulz, but I can't find any ratings/attributes for Brian Minto.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks so much!

Chris, thanks for all the Thai fighters you posted here.

Ice Tea, I like your Rudolph avatar.

Speaking of fighters, does anyone have Amir Khan they could please post? I'm not sure if it was Azza but someone made a LW 9 rated version of Khan as a Beginner as I recall but I can't locate him now.

Thanks in advance & Happy Thanksgiving!

LHW from 1967

Johnny Alford Rating 1 USA
LHW 1959-64,67-68
24 wins / 16 losses / 3 draws / 16 KO

Hometown: PHiladlephia, PA

Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto

From october 1959 thru July 1964 Alford compiled a 15-11-3,12KO record with the first 13-2-3,10KO portion of it against the usual local club fighters. The only fight outside the PA, NJ, area being a 6 round draw with middleweight Ernie Smith(15-20-3) in Detroit. In November 1961 he fought Johnny Tucker at Madison Square Garden and lost a 6 round decision to Tucker. Those two fought a rematch at the Garden in January 1962 with Alford winning by TKO in the 6th round after referee Martin stopped the bout after Tucker had been battered in the 5th and 6th rounds according to the New York Times.

A little more then a month later Alfrod took on future heavyweight Jimmy Ellis at the Garden. Both fighters went into this fight weighing in as a middleweight at slightly less then 160 lbs. Ellis won by majority decision in 6 rounds. That was the start of a 1-8-0 skid over the next couple of years including losses to Jesse Smith, Allen Thomas adn ending with consecutive losses to Leotis Martin, Johnny Persol and Giulio Rinaldi(in Rome, Italy, the first of only 2 times Alford fought outside the states). After he dropped the 10 round decision to Rinaldi, Alford left the ring for close to 3 years.

In March 1967 Alford started a comeback dropping a 10 round decision to then undefeated LHW Joe Burns(23-7-1,10). Alford then realed off 6 straight wins including a 7th round KO of Luis Gutierrez. On March 26 1967, three weeks after winning a 10 round decision over Freddie Sullivan, Alfrod lost by 10 round UD to Angel Oquendo. That was followed 2 months later by a 10 round decision loss to Pedro Miranda. After an 8th round knockout of Linnes Johnson a couple weeks after the loss to Miranda, Alford finished out a busy 1967 with a 10 round decision loss to Oquendo. Alford then finished his career for good in 1968 with a 3rd round Ko win, a 10 round descision loss to Harold Johnson and then a 10 round UD win over Juan Carlos Rivero.

Milburn Saylor

I don't believe that Milburn Saylor has been rated.

He was a lightweight and welterweight from Indianapolis who fought from 1908 to 1920. He met Ted (Kid) Lewis for the world welterweight title in 1915, losing a decision in 12 rounds.

During his career Saylor defeated Young Erne, Philadelphia Pal Moore, Willie Beecher, Leach Cross, Stanley Yoakum, Matty Baldwin, Joe Welling, Hal Stewart, Joe Shugrue, Herb McCoy, Grover Hayes, Battling Nelson, Phil Brock, and Ray Bronson (who later managed him).

After his career he worked as a fireman for the railroads and was killed at 32 in a train wreck.

The enclosed ratings have been thoroughly playtested.

Abe the Newsboy

Boxrec lists him as a heavyweight, but also reports that he fought at 150 pounds. So I have rated him as a middleweight.

In 1930, the Russian-born fighter self-published an autobiography entitled The Story of Abe the Newsboy: Hero of a Thousand Fights.

Boxrec lists his career as running from 1908 to 1918.

I didn't know how to handle his name. In the attached file and photo below he is shown as Abe/ the Newsboy, although Abe the/ Newsboy might be better.

boxrec.com also shows him w/ the alias "Abe Hollandersky"

I have that pic in my db listed as Hollandersky_Abe.jpg

Don't know where it came from
