I once read that you should try to put yourself in the other person's shoes when you have different points of view and try to understand his or her viewpoint... I think this would help bring a better relationship between the two differing parties. Being an old DJ, I like to share songs with you... Joe South wrote a great song "Walk A Mile In My Shoes"... from the late 60s... this song has a wonderful message. I hope we all practice what Joe South is preaching. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_IRzJDGiHU Last edited by Eugene Church; 02-02-2023 at 10:31 AM. |

The more one reads, often, the better their vocabularies typically are, I think. Education from infancy is usually best, and most often done best by parents or other similar people, and not necessarily teachers. Although teachers are obviously quite important too in the grand scheme of things here, in regards to a person's lifelong mental development processes, most of the time, if not all of it.
We've definitely seen a great decline in the level of civility for many people in the last few decades, on average. It's no wonder why we're having a lot of problems in the world nowadays, at least in part, if not entirely, because of it. Incivility often breeds anger, and anger often breeds violence, among other things, when there's enough of it out there. I hope that America and other nations get back to more civil behavior for their respective inhabitants, but I still don't see that really happening all that much for quite some time yet, unfortunately. However, in various people's baseball and/or hockey games, such things don't generally appear, unless they've added certain storylines to them that relate to such things, I'm sure. Those kinds of bad things are most likely not included in OOTPD's products to date by default, either. And if that's actually the case here, then I'm quite glad about that, for sure, of course. CD out.

Monday, April 4, 1960 SOUTH ISLAND SECONDARY LEAGUE OPENS WITH A BANG The 1960 South Island Secondary League opened up with some fireworks and upsets to start the new season... Parkland was victorious in the spotlight game of the weekend... the Perfectos polished off the Joliet Green Giants 6-2... Cherrywood outgunned and outscored the Grin Hill Smileys 10-9 in a runfest... lightly-regarded Littleville upended the well-regarded Pelham Oaks 8-6... and Billings drubbed the poor St. Dominic Saints 8-2. Yep, the Yankees might be a little better this year with the additions of rookies Kent Clemenceau at catcher and Perry Scott at second... they will be backups for Roman Joyce and Clancy Dupepe at catcher and second respectively.

MY LIFE IN 2023
EC's Life is Full of Gladness and Glee in '23 Yip, Yip Hooray... EC is finally happy with his life... yep, my life is good today. Shame to say, EC has never been much of a reader in my life... much to my detriment... I missed a lot... sad to say I only read the sports pages and comic books in my youth... the sports pages greatly improved my arithmetic ... yep, I had to learn to do the ERAs and BAs... thank goodness, I did that... EC learned a lot of words and built up a pretty good vocabulary in my young years... didn't read much more than the newspapers since then, which was very profitable to me and my collection of information and knowledge... in the last few years I discovered the world of books... began reading baseball books (of course) and books about country music and country stars (of course, EC was a DJ for 32 years)... Ball Four by Jim Bouton is one of my favorites... it showed the real inside of baseball and its players... day-to-day struggles on the field and off the field... my favorite player Gary Bell was featured prominently in it... I knew him in the late 50s when I was a bat boy for the Mobile Bears of the Southern Association... also loved The Soul of Baseball by Joe Posnanski... he traveled a year with Negro Leaguer Buck O'Neal, the ambassador of baseball, made famous in Ken Burns' Baseball documentary... thoroughly enjoyed both books and about 10-15 others Have just begun Joe Posnanski's The Baseball 100... his ranking of the top 100 baseball players in history... he included the Negro Leaguers and some Japanese players... I have only covered #100 to #85 so far... and I highly recommend it...Posnanski not only knows baseball, but his writing and wit make the words and the stories flow... same as he did in the Buck O'Neal book. Sadly, Buck O'Neal never knew he made the Baseball Hall of Fame.... he died and was posthumously voted in... a terrible shame. Come on Hall of Fame, put Pete Rose into the Hall of Fame before it's too late... yep, he was a jerk... and he bet on baseball... but he has paid for that... forgive him and put him in the Hall of Fame... he was a heck of a hitter and player... he deserves it... yep, Pete Rose certainly deserves to be in the Cooperstown Hall of Fame. MY LIFE IN 1960
EC's Life's Not Very Nifty in '60 EC will soon be shipping out to Turkey for a one-year tour of duty on a lonely mountaintop... as the story goes "There is a beautiful woman behind every tree in Turkey -- only trouble is --- there are no trees in Turkey... the Turks cut them down for firewood. But I did get to see the new 1960 cars and trucks before I left... sorry, EC is not of fan of big fins on the cars... a few of them are too boxy, too... I think the Chrysler sedan was my favorite this year... or maybe the Ford or Mercedes... trucks were kind of bland and boxy. Cars cost about $2600 and pickups were around $2000. Monday, April 11, 1960 BATS BOOMING IN SECONDARY LEAGUE... STOUTS AND SUPERMEN ON TOP AFTER 2 WEEKENDS Highly-rated Cherrywood and lowly-rated Littleville are both unbeaten after two weekends of play in the South Island Secondary League, while preseason pick Joliet is in the cellar... what's going on this season?... one thing for sure the scoreboard operators are being kept busy with the big booming bats... hits, runs and errors are rampant this year... the league is batting .301 and the team ERAs are over 5.00. Cherrywood gave Joliet its second loss in a row with an 8-4 beating... Littleville lashed Parkland 8-5... Grin Hill stomped on Billings 10-5... and in a low-scoring contest (kind of?) Pelham got past the hapless St. Dominic Saints 6-4. Secondary League Standings Secondary League Stars of the Week |
