Just my thought, but that throws out any realistically the reply had, IMHO.
If OH being in the majors is a realism issue for you, I got no defense.

I must say i am kinda chuckling to myself though, as Josh Gibson, Mule Suttles, Bill Foster, and countless others who never played in the majors are present here. The players are included in this database for the purpose of using them, so here we are. Babe Ruth playing in St. Louis, or Joe Dimaggio spending his career as a Brown, could also ring just as unrealistic. So that's why im kinda rolling my eyes at that comment.

1990 MLB Regular Season

Here are baseballs best 10 prospects a the beginning of the season

WOW!! Mark McGwire just had the greatest month I’ve ever seen. I hope this isn’t the new engine being funky. I did not make any changes after converting from OOTP15, but when i converted from 14 to 15, i did have a few issues. We’ll see how it goes. In April, McGwire hits .351, with 18 home runs and 41 RBIs in just 24 games. That’s a 122 HR pace. Double the greatest season ever. Lets hope this is just an amazing month and not the engine.

McGwire hanging out with Bill Murray at the 1990 all-star game.

McGwire’s May is also great. He hits 13 home runs bringing his total to 31 after two months. That’s amazing. 2nd in baseball is Kevin Mitchell with 22, which is almost record pace. That’s reasonable for me. I'm now assuming it’s just everything clicking for McGwire, and baseball is going through an offensive era. All the home runs haven’t been enough for the Twins though. They sit in 3rd place.

So, in the preseason, the Jays were predicted to have a team ERA of 6.90. I don’t know how it’s possible to put together a team that bad if you’re trying. Hell, it’s hard if you aren’t. I wonder if David Palmer is a Jay!! On June 1st, the starters in Toronto have a combined ERA of 6.89, highlighted by 26 year old Floyd Youmans, the teams #1 starter, whose 0-9, with a 11.19 ERA. Youmans was amazing last year with Cleveland, when he posted a 7.65 ERA in 31 starts. That’s why the Jays wanted him I guess. I don’t understand how the CPU can continue to pitch a guy like this. I also don’t understand how Youmans has been a regular starter in baseball since 1983!!! His career ERA is 6.64!!!!! He’s started 153 games!!!! At this point, it doesn’t matter if there are better options to pitch, as any different option is better! Kind of disappointed with the game right now.

McGwire slowed down in June, in what was an all around terrible month for him. He hit 7 home runs, which is still pretty good, but only hit .192. He will head into the all-star game with 39 home runs, which is a record breaking pace.

Speaking of the all-star game, we have all-star voting now, and it gets updated every week, which is kind of cool. Barry Bonds was leading the league in votes up until the final tally, when the Phillies Kevin Mitchell passed him with 3.2 million votes.

Here are the first half trades, followed by the all-star game.

A news story just came across the wire that i enjoyed, so i though i would share it with you. Yogi Berra is coaching the Tigers, and i also decided to include his lifetime coaching stats along with the story. Nice touch OOTP.

Here are the 2nd half trades. Maybe i need to up the trading frequency? I'll see how next season goes first.

Toronto’s Floyd Youmans finishes July 2-13, with a 9.69 ERA. Ya, I'm getting very disappointed with this game for continuing to stick with him. I mean, at this point, you give someone else a chance. I should mention that Syracuse, the Jays AAA team has it’s leagues best ERA. This is a big fail OOTP.

Floyd Youmans gets hurt on August 8th, ending his season with a ruptured tendon. 2-14, with a 9.77 ERA. His replacement in the rotation is 19 year old kid named Tae-Won Kang. Kang was taken in the 10th round of the 89 draft, and has pitched very well in AA and AAA this year. He will be much much better then Floyd Youmans. Can’t believe it took an injury to do this. 23 year old Omar Olivares, whose got a 3.17 ERA in 20 starts in Syracuse is still waiting for a call up, while 33 year old Mike Boddicker posts a 8.70 ERA in 22 starts this year, and has just HORRIBLE RATINGS….. WOW

Entering September, Detroit, Minnesota, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati all have their respective divisions sewn up. It’s over. The only real story is Mark McGwire. He has 54 home runs. That’s 11 away from Gehrig’s 65. Can he do it?!

McGwire hits his 60th home run in September 13th, giving him half a month to chase Lou Gehrig. He is the 6th player to ever hit 60 home runs, joining Gehrig, Reggie Jackson, Babe Ruth, Bo Jackson and Jim Gentile.

McGwire would hit 3 home runs in 4 days a week later, bringing his total to 63. He would then go dry, not hitting a long ball for a week, before launching number 64 on the final day of the season in Detroit. That home run was his final atbat of the season. Mark McGwire finishes the season with 64 home runs, 1 shy of the all-time record!

Hmm, that's a lot of guys in their from this season. Something to keep an eye on...

Tae-Won Kang starts 10 games, going 1-5, with a 6.75 ERA. That's not good, but it's better. It doesn't make any sense to stick with a Youmans that long.

Toronto's Mike Boddicker finishes the year 5-21, with an 8.37 ERA. Why in a world would a Major League team try someone else when a pitcher is this bad!!!

Omar Olivares, whose 23, and has better ratings then Kang, Boddicker and Youmans, does not get a callup at all. Infact, he's demoted to Knoxville, where he pitches very well. This is as disappointed I've ever been with OOTP.

Doc Gooden wins the AL triple crown in his first season in Chicago.

Holy crap. McGwire's early pace, Jays rotation, Youmans, Tigers 110 wins, McGwire finishing ONE SHORT and Jays somehow not finishing last. A fun year of stats -- that is for sure.

A rematch of the 1987 World Series, won by the Tigers. Detroit has built a wonderful team, that has been able to withstand injuries to Ron Gant, Jay Buhner, and Curtis Pride, who are all out for the World Series. George Brett, at age 37, is not slowing down. He just set a personal best in RBI’s. Brett Saberhagen is the team’s number three starter. That’s a pretty talented rotation.

The Pirates are fading. I know it hasn’t happen yet, but this run is coming to a close. Clemens and Moore are in a decline. The offense is starting to get up there in age, but as of today, they can still play. Howard Johnson had a remarkable bounce back year after it looked like he was going to be a backup the rest of his career.

Odd move. After signing starter Steve Trout to a big free agent deal before last season, the Pirates make him the closer this year. Now, in the World Series, he’s back in the rotation. The team has no injuries. Another of these weird OOTP oddities I’m seeing that make very little sense.

With Kirk McCaskill facing Kenny Rogers in game 1, we all expected a pitchers duel. What we got was a slugfest. The Pirates jumped out infront early, on a Howard Johnson three run homer. Detroit responded, with a two in the 2nd. The Pirates restored their 3 run lead in the third when Don Mattingly and Brian Harper knocked in runs. The Tigers would tie the game in their half of the inning. Mike Kingery with the key, 2 out, 2 run double. 5-5 after three.

Kenny Rogers is pulled in the fourth after allowing another run, and reliever Jose Rijo appears to be what the Tigers needed, retiring the first 3 Pirates he sees. Fred McGriff gets in on the action, knocking in a pair and forcing McCaskill out of the game in the fifth. Detroit jumps ahead 8-6. Back to back home runs from Dwight Smith and Warren Newson effectively end the game in Detroit's favour the next inning. Tigers win game one, 12-8.

Steve Trout makes his 3rd start of the season. The Pirates closer is spotted a 2-0 lead when Brad Wellman homers off of Bret Saberhagen, but gives it up when Fred McGriff takes him deep for a 3 run shot in the 4th. Craig Grebeck would hit a 2 run shot off of Trout, and despite the Pirates fighting back a few times, they never really got close again. Detroit wins game two, 8-5.

Detroit scores in the first of game three, possibly indicating the offensive onslaught would continue. Mike Moore though shuts them down after. Moore would allow a second run in the fifth, but that was it. He gives his team a chance to win, but Pittsburgh could only muster up a single run, trailing 2-1, heading into the bottom of the ninth...

Huge comeback win with Oddibe McDowell playing the hero. Pittsburgh wins 3-2 to get back in the series.

The Pirates use their momentum of game three to jump out to a 3-0 lead in game four. Atlee Hammaker doesn’t help his own cause, walking in two of the runs. McDowell and Dion James would knock in a pair, and Pittsburgh lead 5-1 after four! Cue the comeback. Omar Vizquel brings Detroit to within two, with a 2 run shot in the 5th. George Brett singles in Vizquel in the eighth to cut the lead to one, heading into the top of the ninth…..

We are tied, and heading to extra innings. No scoring in the 10th, or the 11th. Detroit’s Mike Kingery comes to the plate with 2 on in the 12th, and singles to left field. Both runs score, and it’s all she wrote. Detroit, down 5-1, wins game four, 7-5, and lead the series 3 games to 1.

Fred McGriff hits a 3 run shot in the 3rd, beginning a Detroit rally which sees them score 10 runs in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th. That takes all the wind out of the Pirates sales, as they just don’t have the fight in them to come back. Detroit wins the fifth and final game 10-3, and take the World Series in 5 games.

The game has picked the Pirates Dion James as MVP, but I’m gonna overrule that and go a different way.

3 titles and a loss in a 1 game playoff for the Tigers since Mr. Robles was proclaimed an idiot...not bad. I have to ask how is Randy Johnson panning out for the Padres.

Haha, you are correct, i did, and i guess I'm being proved to be the actual idiot every season. Mr. Robles now has a legendary retputation!

Randy Johnson has been ok. Is development hasn't been as good as in real life, but in real life, he peaked late. At 27, i don't know if he will get any better then he is today. Here is his player card.

This is, at least, if I remember correctly, the first time a pitcher has won a MVP award. Dwight Gooden makes history!!!!

1990-91 Offseason News and Notes

The draft was not one i would call particularly strong. Its nice to see that the first pick, Jeff Bagwell, went to the Astros!! The Jays grabbing Mike Mussina at three maybe the most impactfull pick though, as they needed pitching badly.

The second year of Hall of Fame voting has taken place. Jim O'Toole was again elected in, but received a few less votes this time around. I again vetoed the induction. Getting into the Hall of Fame, Bill Singer, and Steve Yeager.

Steve Yeager recieved 89.3 percent of the votes, and gets in because he was a catcher. He's still a great player, but being a catcher, which is the rarest of all postions in the hall, puts him easily in. Bill Singer was a star, and he's a very easy induction for me and the voters. Singer was named on 96.4% of the ballots, the highest in the short 2 year process.

Some major moves, and some major spending in free agency this year.

Danny Jackson is a very good pitcher, but the Mets should have spent that on Dwight Gooden last season. The Pirates are losing players every year, and Tony Fernandez, perhaps baseball's most underrated hitter, as I barely ever mention him, becomes one of baseball's richest players.

Here are the offseason trades

John Kruk going to the Pirates looks like a nice move on their part. Yanks look like they are going all-in for this year, which is always great to see.

1991 Regular Season

Here are the top 10 prospects heading into the 1991 season

I’d like to report, and pat myself on the back, as in the first weekend of the season, I, George Bell, of the Houston Astros, hit my 300th home run. Pretty good career I’m having. I’ve been an all-star seven times, and average about 30 home runs a year. At 31, I hope I have a lot left in me.

Hows this for a great start to the season. Minnesota’s Jim Deshaies, a 30 year old starter, whose had pretty good success in his career, goes 4-0 in April. He throws 40.2 innings, allows 23 hits, and just one run. ONE!! That run came off the bat of Delino Deshields of the A’s. A solo home run. What an amazing month considering the offensive world we are living in at the moment!

Deshaies

Jim Deshaies came all the way back down to earth in May. He gave up a wopping 7 runs in 6 starts!!!! What a bum!! He’s now 10-0 with a 0.85 ERA. It really is a quite the start, and if puts him in line to have one of the greatest seasons ever. Now, that’s still a lot of work. There’s four months remaining, but what a start.

Milwaukee’s power hitting catcher Bob Geren is this years top vote getter for the all-star game. He received more then 2.6 million votes. With a .322 batting average, and 25 home runs, the 29 year old is a very popular player around the league, who is putting up numbers of the honour.
At the all-star game, it’s important we take note that Barry Bonds is hitting .382. The push for .400 is officially on. The last time someone hit that mark was 1929, by the great Lou Gehrig, who hit .425. The last time that mark was approached, was in 1943, by Ted Williams, with a .377 mark.

Here are all the trades made during the 1991 season

This years pennant races have some potential. Detroit leads Cleveland by 3 game. Those two squads have the top 2 records in all of baseball. Oakland with a 3.5 game lead in Minnesota looks like it will come down to the end. Pittsburgh has moved 5.5 games ahead of Chicago with a strong August. The Cubbies had lead most of the season. The Reds look like they will take the NL west with a 7 game lead on Houston.

Ouch, Ken Griffey JR was enjoying his rookie year, starting in CF for the Royals when he hit his head and suffered a concussion. Diagnosis is a 10 month rest, which could kill his ratings. Griffey was on pace for a 20 HR/100 RBI season. What a blow to a young and talented player. I know he’s popular, so this is unfortunate.

More terrible injury news. Greg Maddux, the NL’s top pitcher, tears his rotator cuff and is out for 13 months minimum. He’s only 25, and had already made 5 all-star games. Such a shame to see this happen. It may pave the way for him to become the softer throwing control artist he became in real life though. The game says he throws 95-97 right now.

On October 1st, two races are still in doubt. The Twins have won 10 of 11 games to take a one game lead on Oakland. The Dodgers have had a great September, and are now just 1 game back of the Reds in the NL west. 5-6 games remain this season. Here’s how it all went down.

Bob Geren falls just short of 60, hitting 59 dingers.

Barry Bonds falls off big time, and finishes the season hitting .336
Still good enough for the NL batting title.
Jim Deshaies ERA rose dramatically over the final four months, finishing up at a 3.37. Not historical, are even Rube Waddell worthy.

The playoffs will be a repeat of last season!
