Interesting ESPN factoid:

All winners of the WC since 1950 (Brazil, Germany, England, Italy, Argentina and France) are still alive in the tourney.

Two cases of coaches moaning at referees:
First, Ghana coach Ratomir Dujkovic -
Quote:
Ghana coach Ratomir Dujkovic said it "hurt" to have been sent off during the World Cup defeat to Brazil - and accused the referee of bias.

Dujkovic was banished from the dug-out at half-time after confronting Slovakian referee Michel Lubos.

"I told him it would be better if he put a yellow jersey (Brazil colours) on," Dujkovic said after the 3-0 loss.

"I have never been sent off in my life and it hurts. But I suppose there has to be a first time for everything."
However his Brazilian counterpart, Carlos Alberto Perreira, was not so sympathetic

Quote:
Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira had little sympathy for his counterpart, however, saying: "That is what losers do, they whinge and they cry."

And Luis Aragones was slightly more succinct after the Henry flop disgrace (IMO):

Quote:
Spanish coach Luis Aragones was unhappy over the free kick awarded to France which led to the second goal in the 1998 World Cup winners' 3-1 victory.

Referee Roberto Rosetti blew for a foul when Thierry Henry went down after a tackle by Spain defender Carles Puyol.

Aragones said: "Their second goal came from a free kick that wasn't a foul and we were punished by a refereeing error.

"When players give everything you can't ask any more. They're still young and have another chance in the future."

Aragones added: "Football is unjust sometimes, but not always. France were very tough opponents."

Mr Dukovic..you have a reason to moan. If the refs had properly called offside and you could hav gone into the halftime 1-0 the game might have ended differently. Your players did their best.

Tu eres loco disgraciado. Spain could have easily controled their own destiny put couldnt out one in the old onion bag. 1 penalty was all you could muster and your defense faltered. :spitonyou:

The Hand(s) of God are with Brazil yet again as they get to avoid both Spain and Holland and prance into the finals. Sigh. If somehow France can pull off the upset I promise to sacrifice my first born son to whichever deity helps me out.

There was a thing in the newspapers over here the other day forgot to put it up on here that was to do with the number 7, England 7 letters, Beckham 7 letters, Beckham wears the number 7 the final will be played in the 7th month, Svens middle name is 7 letters (can't think of), Ecuador who they were playing that day as 7 letters few other things as well but can't think of them.

See old Nostradamus got it wrong again, they were all saying the World Cup was his prediction when he said "The King of Spain would cross the Alps and take the Holy Grail" they reckoned it was Spain winning the World Cup no doubt they'll say the same thing if a Spaniard wins Wimbledon or the Tour de France or any of the golfing majors or any other sporting event this year.
