MY LIFE IN 2020
EC's still having plenty, plenty fun in 2020. As you know EC was a DJ for 32 years... so that's why I used "Tight As Texas Fiddles" in the Headlines for the South Island First League update. I was and always have been a frustrated sportswriter, too... now I'm getting to combine the two great loves of my life... music and baseball. The song coming up is "Corina Corina"... that was my granddaddy's favorite song... hope you like it Allen Oscar Darby, wherever you might be... hope he's with Jesus... A. O. Darby was EC's grandpappy. Here is what 'tight Texas fiddles" sound like. Hope you little darlin's and all you buckaroos hit the dance floor and get to Texas two-steppin' to it. Wouldn't be surprised if Allen Oscar Darby ain't hitting the dance floor, too. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...C8&FORM=VDRVRV Last edited by Eugene Church; 01-10-2020 at 07:17 PM. |

Monday, April 14, 1952 4-TEAM TANGLE IN SOUTH ISLAND SECOND LEAGUE There's a four-way tangle in the South Island Second League with St. Meraux, Delacroix, St. Dominic and Guedon all at the top of the standings with 4-3 records... Chitamaca is fifth at 3-4 and poor Bayou Bleu is in last place with a 2-5 mark for the season so far... in Sunday's play around the league, the Meraux Tigers rallied to beat Bayou Bleu 5-3... the Delacroix Cubs held off St. Dominic 5-4... and the Guedon Gators overwhelmed the Chitamaca Moccasins 10-4 . MY LIFE IN 1952
EC's Just Havin' Fun in '52, Too! OK, all you little darlin's and all you buckaroos, too... it's now the middle of April... sports-wise it's the middle of the NBA playoffs... EC will let you know who wins in a week or so when its over... or I could consult Carnack the Magnicent and let you know the champ sooner... George Mikan and the Minneapolis Lakers are my favorite player and my favorite team... the Rochester Royals, Syracuse Nationals, New York Knicks and Boston Celtics are their biggest challengers... notice the teams played 66 games to eliminate two teams from the playoffs... I guess the NBA did it to survive... anything for the teams to make a few more bucks... they needed it in the early days of the NBA... but not now... playing from November into June is ridiculous... they should play a 40-game regular season and get the playoffs over before baseball opens its regular season. Here's all you need to know about the players and the teams... we didn't have ESPN in those good old golden days of innocence and bliss... we didn't even have TV in those good old golden days of innocence and bliss. Yes, I was there... and it was nice. 24-hour news coverage is way past overkill... it just 24 hours of talking heads constantly interrupting and screaming at one another and constantly rehashing the few big stories of the day. A 30-minute newscast is all you really need... oh, alright, you can have an hour-long newscast. EC thinks we have way too much information today... it's not good for society, me thinks. Monday, April 21, 1952 JOLIET AHEAD IN NIFD BY 2 GAMES The Joliet Green Giants are stepping high in the North Island First Division... they bashed New Yerby 6-2 and boosted their league lead to two games over their major rivals, Dutton, Jackson and Kofa... the Coyotes topped the Kings 3-0 yesterday afternoon... and the Jackalopes polished off the Avalon Oldtimers 7-5. |

Monday, April 21, 1952 EAGLES RISE HIGH IN SOUTH ISLAND FIRST LEAGUE Going into weekend play, the South Island First League was almost a six-team tie for first place... this weekend all the teams could go from the penthouse to the outhouse or vice versa in the topsy-turvy world of Island baseball... after the dust had settled over the diamonds on Monday, one team emerged all alone and on top of the standings - the Des Allemands Eagles... they have a scant one-game margin over four other squads... the Eagles waylaid the Bar Harbor Acadians 8-2 to nab the number one spot... the Opelousas Lions roared over the Labadieville Pelicans 5-3... and the Claiborne Cardinals flew past the Mystic Mariners 5-3. |
