Why are you Mets fans so upset? The team is only 4.5 back. It could be worse. You could be in the NL west.

Tootling towards a sixth straight loss. My bedtime is drawing up, and I am reasonably confident that the Giants' 1-0 lead is unassailable by this wimpish team, so what gives...

Shows what you know! Mets rallied to tie it in th 9th and then…beats me. I don't watch coin-flips or thumb-wrestling or whatever Manfred replaced extra innings with.

Mets hustle: in the first, two out, Mets on the corners, J.D. Davis hits a little dribbler in front of the plate, then stands there pouting and gets tagged out, rather than running to 1B and forcing a potentially-errant throw. Nice effort!

Mets keeping their heads in the game: in the 2nd, Jonathan Villar is picked off 1B, the 7th pickoff he's suffered this year. Nobody else in MLB has been caught more than four times. This despite the entire dugout screaming "Back!" so loudly Ronnie could hear them on the telecast. JFC.

You have failed to account for Slingin' Jake McGee, fastest save-blower in the West!

With DeSclafani washing out in the 2nd it was barely possible for the Mets to lose this one (?), and they didn't!

I watched the top 12th in disbelief before heading to the office today. I didn't believe my own eyes! Four runs! In one game!

Uh, inning!

Yankees were rained out on May 26 (same as Mets!) and July 1 (a day before the rained out game in South Yonkers, with the Mets still in Atlanta).

Good news is they didn't lose on those days, bad news is they save the loss for another day.

Back to normal service for the Mets, scoring one run in a "comfortable" loss. One more L to reach 60-62, and then that fiery speech our motivating manager gave will kick in and…oh, wait.

I forgot. Minor League Roving Instructor Rojas teaches players to take it one game at a time, don't get too hyped up, and blame the press for being SO MEAN! Riiight. Enjoy the winter, Luis. (Including the unemployment checks, I hope.)

Gary Cohen tries to hype us up about the imminent return of our $650,000,000 worth of garbage, telling us that Lindor/Baez are looking good in workouts. Riiiiiight, Gary. Let the whiffing begin!

That was one of the dumber narratives I've seen make the rounds in the tabloids. He *JUST* went in the clubhouse last week or so and said he was proud of them, everyone is trying hard, enjoy your orange slices and gatorade, etc. Then the next week, 280 characters about how they can't hit (and IIRC he had another tweet like that a couple of weeks before the Gipper speech, plus the GM talking in a press conference about how the injured players don't hydrate/stretch). It's almost like what the owner says to the players (or worse, in public about the players) doesn't magically imbue the bats with power.

And last night was particularly dead, a single in each of the 5th and 6th and an HBP in the 7th and good night ladies, I think Pete was the only Met to touch 3B on offense and that was when he rounded to score the only run. And had diSarcina not sent him they'd have been shut out.

Mets claim Heath Hembree in a classic "So, do your arms and legs all work?" move.

I didn't know Steve Cohen had visited the clubhouse. I was sarcastically referring to Terry Collins's famous "Las Vegas" speech in 2016, since 60-62 (our record if we get the expected L tonight) is where we were when that speech kicked in and we got hot down the stretch, that year.

My point was that Rojas would NEVER tear the players a new one like that. When Cohen tweeted, Ron Darling referenced people saying the team was working hard (was that Cohen's clubhouse visit?) and pointed out that hard work is the MINIMUM one should expect; winning takes more than that.

(It reminds me of Urinatingtree [a YouTuber, real name Steve Linkowski] doing a video on the Washington [name redacted]s a few years ago, where the GM was praising the players for showing up early and working hard. As Linkowski said, "that's every football team, ever".

Fake hustle won't get you anywhere. That's how Pete Rose got his nickname; during a spring training game against the Yankees, he sprinted to first after a walk, and Mickey Mantle went "oooh, look at Charlie Hustle there" sarcastically. That's not why Rose was a success.

"Hard work" won't do **** for the Mets. They can either get angry…or start scheduling tee times for October. Their choice.)

Well, Jake Reed made it.. two days? Before he was poisoned by the blue and orange dye in the uniforms. Welcome Heath Hembree, we'll have a cab standing by to rush you to the Hospital for Special Surgery after you pitch.

Last night was another one of those games, had the dolt umpire not called such a rotten game I don't think that late semi-rally happens at all. Buehler vs. the Mets was not a close matchup.

I was just gonna comment how **** those dark blue Dodgers uniforms look, and then Gary Cohen tells me that they are their City Connect uniforms.

The point has thus been made.

I like that they were so underwhelmed by their own concept they just stuck the wordmark on the cap, like the Monty Python sketches where they have no idea how to finish so they just say "and now...". Except these unis aren't funny.

Hey, the Dodgers unis are better than the San Francisco equivalents. That's probably all they care about.

Meanwhile, the Mets fell behind early, fought back, missed chances, and lost by one run.

Quote:

You know, when I would think about how this was going to be a rough stretch for the team, I really wasn't thinking 1-8. And four more games to go!

"Yay?" [/Xander]

Well, maybe the old 60-62 magic will kick in…oh, wait, we're 60-63 now. Never mind.

For the second straight game, J.D. Davis came up with the bases loaded and two out. For the second straight game, he struck out. But at least he swung this time!

On the season, Davis is 0-for-6 with the sacks drunk. With 6 strikeouts. Pat Tabler reincarnated, he ain't.

(And not only because Tabler isn't dead!)
